My fellow Texans: Monkeypox is here!

The arrival in the Lone Star State of monkeypox raises an interesting question: what's the best pox?

Monkeypox usually provides at least some immunity to smallpox so in the past, when there were smallpox epidemics, people would deliberately infect themselves with monkeypox if they could. Monkeypox is not pleasant but it is rarely fatal as smallpox could be.

No cow on this list?

by Anonymousreply 2July 16, 2021 9:29 PM

Cowpox also provides some immunity against smallpox. In 17th and 18th centuries, people noticed that milkmaids rarely came down with smallpox and eventually figured out that most of them had immunity because of their exposure to cowpox.

Monkeypoksh.

Allegedly hence vaccine from vache and the iconic fair (poxless) milkmaids of yore R3.

OP you are a bad Texan to neglect the cattle.

It’s what God intended! We shouldn’t mess with nature! It ain’t right! 🤡

Not a day all year where I haven't heard the words TEXAS and FLORIDA multiple times. Make it stop!

by Anonymousreply 9July 16, 2021 9:47 PM

It’s true Dee Plorable. God gave the example of the fair milk maids to demonstrate the importance and acceptableness of vaccines. Antivaxxers are the spawn of Satan espousing an argument against natural theology.

It comes from Shakespeare-

"A pox on thee and thy monkye".

by Anonymousreply 11July 16, 2021 10:09 PM

So will the viruses keep getting nastier and nastier?

by Anonymousreply 12July 22, 2021 4:00 AM

We have a competent CDC again and they will irradicate this early as Plump should have done with Covid. Like Obama did with SARS.

by Anonymousreply 13July 22, 2021 4:44 AM

Does this come from monkeys? Does this mean chicken pox comes from chickens and small pox come from smalls?

by Anonymousreply 14July 22, 2021 5:26 AM

I use it. I think It works better than Gorilla Glue.

by Anonymousreply 15July 22, 2021 5:32 AM

OMG, what happened to the Gorilla Glue lady?

by Anonymousreply 16July 22, 2021 5:40 AM

Smallpox is my favourite pox. If it makes a return, I'm hoping that the Covid anti-vaxxers also refuse the smallpox vaccine. That'd really thin their ranks.

by Anonymousreply 18November 17, 2021 7:43 PM

No 'A pox on your house' as your favorite pox, OP?

Today may be your lucky day, R18, vials of smallpox were discovered in a lab yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 25May 17, 2022 8:35 PM

R23, true, Mexico doesn’t deserve this.

I read the W.W. Jacobs short story in elementary school and loved it. It haunted me for years!

Be careful what you wish for!
