Greg Araki

Why did he stop making films?

by Anonymousreply 10July 14, 2021 9:08 AM

He accidentally made a good one?

by Anonymousreply 1July 14, 2021 5:37 AM

Didn’t he discover Rose McGowan?

I love Gregg Araki. He did a series semi-recently that I didn't watch but heard it was decent. I think there was male full frontal. Gregg Araki's films were the only gay movies that spoke to me as a gayling in the late 90's. I am obsessed with The Doom Generation, Nowhere, The Living End and Mysterious Skin. Mysterious Skin was the last thing I saw of his I really enjoyed. He did a movie with Shaleen Woodley and Precious. It had the same Araki sheen to it, but I couldn't get in to it.

His last work, the TV series, was a god awful piece of shit that makes Ryan Murphy look like a consistent storyteller. Great eye candy though

r3 Gay movies? I think you mean 'queer' movies. Gregg has made a big deal both personally, and professionally, that he is not gay.

I saw a movie of his. It featured Chris Zylka or Alan Ritchson (I can never keep those two straight). It was... bitty, like a short filmmaker had lucked into a feature.

I thought Gregg was out as a gay man though now. He pioneered the new queer cinema genre of movies in the 90's so he he definitely likes dick. James Duval was his muse.

r7 No one is claiming he doesnt like dick. Its that he is bi/queer. This guy originally ID'd as gay in the 90's and then dated women and came out as bi - and basically saying 'gay' was reductive everyone who was anyone shouldn't be in that box. He has since said 'I guess you can call me gay (but he deosnt actually say he is) as im in a long term relationship with a guy' or something to that extent.

Im only in my 20's and I know that.......

He's one of ours but he's not very good, is he?

by Anonymousreply 9July 14, 2021 9:02 AM

I've never heard of him.

OP: I think it is Gregg, not Greg. But who gives a fuck.
