Who knew? I was just watching a documentary on Youtube about the history of the company and this was mentioned. I was aware that they have offered for many years now that you could order items "Fresco Style" which they basically swap out the sour cream, mayo based sauces and cheese for diced tomatoes. But I had no idea that roughly 3/4 of the items on their menu are <500 calories.
Taco Bell is one of the healthiest fast food chains?

Copious amounts of sodium.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 14, 2021 12:45 AM |
the calorie count may be low, but the sodium level is high.

The article states that they have been actively lowering their sodium over the past decade or so, by 25%.
The main other ingredient in their "grade D beef" is that they just cut it with oats. Oats aren't bad for you. They're obviously cheap and a filler, but not bad for you.
Nobody is putting a gun to your head to order a sugary soda or a diet soda. I always keep bottled waters in my car.

When I was on WW I would go there for lunch and get 1 soft taco and 1 hard taco. They are both low in WW points.

Did you actually lose weight that way R7? Flour tortillas and taco shells are carb loaded.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 16, 2021 1:49 AM |
My favorite item is the cheese sauce.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 16, 2021 1:50 AM |
Yes I did r8 I lost 60 pounds on WW and have kept it off give or take 3-4 pounds which I go up and down with. For me it was learning moderation, two tacos was better than what I used to eat.

I went for a job interview at Taco Bell when I was in high school. I saw them RAKING the ground beef. I noped the hell out of there.

r11 I don't like to watch restaurants make my food or know how they do it. So I am saying Lalalalalaaaaa and covering my eyes and ears at your post. :)

A fresh, cheesy gordita crunch, sub black beans for beef, would be included in my death row final meal, and I don't care who knows it. Maybe the Lord would even spare me, and make the high sodium in it trigger a heart attack, so I didn't have to die at the hands of evil men.

R13 Not to derail the conversation from the topic at hand, but why exactly would you be on death row? Something you're not telling us?? 😳
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 16, 2021 2:04 AM |
R11 how do you "rake beef?" Was it on the floor?

Anything can be made to be <500 calories by making the serving small enough.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 16, 2021 2:09 AM |
R15. There was what seemed to be plexiglass enclosed flattop/grill area where the ground beef was piled on and the worker was using a rake-like object. Looked ike he was tilling soil or raking leaves. It was right by the counter and I could see it from the table area where the interview was at.
It was 30 years ago and I had never stepped foot inside Taco Bell before that day (or since)

The soft and hard tacos are each under 200 calories. We had a Taco Bell by my work so I could go with my friends and eat with them while I was doing WW so that was nice. I also used to eat Wendy's chili and grilled chicken sandwiches sometimes as there was a Wendy's by my work too. But yes the reason they are low in calories is because they are light on meat and cheese. Also would get a Happy Meal at McDonalds drive thru once in awhile to save calories.
My splurge was the Mexican Pizza but unfortunately I can't be tempted by that any more.

Raking beef doesn't sound nasty, but grade d beef certainly does.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 16, 2021 2:18 AM |
What’s wrong with raking beef? That’s how you’re supposed to cook on those flattop grills. Have you never been to a diner? They rake potatoes, onions, pepper, and all sorts of meat.

I could live on the black bean power bowls -love the avocado sauce-hold the sour cream . around 500 calories but the 2 pack of cinnabon delights i add to the order bumps it up some. Still worth it IMO.

R21. I've only ever seen diner cooking on TV shows and I never saw what I saw at Taco Bell.
