I stopped watching this trash years ago when they started nominating like 8 people per category. Ridiculous. Just because there's more shows than ever, even through it's mostly garbage, doesn't mean they can't just nominate 5 the way it had always been. There's hundreds of movies every year and yet the Oscars still manage to nominate the 5 most liked in each category. Participation nominations are ridiculous.

Evan Peters is now an emmy nominee. All his work with Murphy but he never got a nomination before.

by Anonymousreply 33July 13, 2021 4:05 PM

Thanks for picking up the rest of the nominations that weren't announced live, R20.

I'm really happy that Evan Peters finally earned an Emmy nomination, and I think he has a decent chance to win. It's kind of surprising that John Boyega was left out. Ethan Hawke and Nicole Kidman also didn't make it, which is a bit surprising for both.

by Anonymousreply 34July 13, 2021 4:06 PM

Raven was nominated for Department Head Makeup Artist? Give me a fucking break!

by Anonymousreply 35July 13, 2021 4:08 PM

Best Actress in a Limited Series is so stacked. In general the limited series nominations are more impressive than the traditional drama/comedy ones.

Michaela Coel in #IMayDestroyYou

Elizabeth Olsen in #WandaVision

Anya Taylor-Joy in #TheQueensGambit

Kate Winslet in #MareofEasttown

Cynthia Erivo in #GeniusAretha

by Anonymousreply 38July 13, 2021 4:16 PM

I think despite our quibbles with these nominations, at least am more enthusiastic about Emmys than this yr's Oscars

by Anonymousreply 39July 13, 2021 4:17 PM

Are Emmys more prestigious for British actors to win than television BAFTAs?

by Anonymousreply 40July 13, 2021 4:18 PM

I wanted to like Lovecraft Country but thought it was a deeply flawed show. Though all the emmy nominations must make HBO feel a little bad about canceling it.

by Anonymousreply 41July 13, 2021 4:19 PM

Let's be honest r40, America is the capital of the entertainment industry. People care more about the big American awards.

by Anonymousreply 42July 13, 2021 4:20 PM

Stopped watching Handmaids this season. Is it worthy of all these acting noms?

by Anonymousreply 43July 13, 2021 4:20 PM

The Lovecraft Country nominations have much more to do with politics than with genuine quality. It just wasn't a good show.

by Anonymousreply 44July 13, 2021 4:22 PM

Have two black British actors ever been nominated together in the same category?

by Anonymousreply 45July 13, 2021 4:24 PM

I used to watch the Emmy awards and was fan of it for so many years

But ever since they have expanded the categories to 8 to 10 nominees, I no longer watch - I personally feel by expanding categories to 8 nominees each just cheapens the whole awards process. It should be five nominees per category.

by Anonymousreply 46July 13, 2021 4:25 PM

Zero nominations for HBOMax's "It's a Sin."

by Anonymousreply 47July 13, 2021 4:27 PM

I think William H. Macy did really good work in the final season of Shameless, but I'm still surprised he got a Best Actor nod -- nobody talked about the show and there was the matter of his wife's jail time.

by Anonymousreply 48July 13, 2021 4:29 PM

I still watch The Daily Show, but it's been [bold]really[/bold] weak since Trevor Noah has been doing the show from home.

Fortunately, the supporting cast (especially Jordan Klepper) has been doing a much better job.

by Anonymousreply 49July 13, 2021 4:30 PM

If Anya Taylor Joy or Kate Winslet win over Michaela Coke it will be a travesty.

by Anonymousreply 50July 13, 2021 4:33 PM

Michael Coel too.

by Anonymousreply 51July 13, 2021 4:36 PM

That's a tough race, R50, I think any of the three could win and it wouldn't be a "travesty."

by Anonymousreply 52July 13, 2021 4:38 PM

Glad to see all the noms for Lovecraft Country. It wasn't a perfect show, but damn there were some great stories & acting. This show really reminded me of when TV shows like this were exciting and indulgent. They also got a nom for Best Visual Effects, well deserved.

by Anonymousreply 53July 13, 2021 4:39 PM

I say this as someone who binged and overall enjoyed It's a Sin: It really wasn't anything groundbreaking, and other than the guy who played Colin or NPH, the performances were amateur-ish.

That said, stupid shit like Uncle Frank, Kenan, Emily in Paris, and The Kominsky Method got nominated, so what do I know!

I'm happy for everyone involved with Hacks, Mare of Easttown, WandaVision, Ted Lasso, and The Crown....loved all of them and each showcased amazing performances.

Sadly, while diversity needs to be addressed, heavy-handedly nominating every black or Asian person in a show is so patronizing. What did Rege Jean Page do other than be hot? Bowen Yang? Really? The entire cast of Hamilton? Please.

by Anonymousreply 54July 13, 2021 4:41 PM

Re: Hacks

I had no idea Hannah Einbinder is the daughter of Lorraine Newman from SNL!

by Anonymousreply 55July 13, 2021 4:45 PM

What We Do In the Shadows was shut out completely this yr. Gawd even the Friends Reunion Special was nominated >1x (but in tech categories).

by Anonymousreply 56July 13, 2021 4:46 PM

It's A Sin wasn't perfect but it is every bit as deserving as many series that were nominated. I am shocked it was completely shut out.

by Anonymousreply 57July 13, 2021 4:46 PM

Best Actress in a Limited Series is going to be a nail-biter. Ugh, Michaela Coel, Kate Winslet, Elizabeth Olsen, Ana Taylor Joy...they were just all soooo good. However, if I were voting my biggest struggle would be choosing between Kate and Michaela.

by Anonymousreply 58July 13, 2021 4:50 PM

It's pretty evident that the number of nominees has been expanded so it can include at least one POC ( read black) in every category. Avoid the whining.

by Anonymousreply 59July 13, 2021 4:52 PM

Why can’t the person who keeps posting the nominees include the shows for which the performers are nominated? Incredibly annoying.

We all know you just want to rush through and “be the first.”

by Anonymousreply 60July 13, 2021 4:53 PM

Billy Porter is the worst actor on television

by Anonymousreply 61July 13, 2021 4:56 PM

Best Performance by a CGI character...Baby Yoda (Grogu). Obviously a method actor.

by Anonymousreply 63July 13, 2021 5:02 PM

No, Anya Taylor Joy winning for wearing fabulous mod clothes would be a travesty.

by Anonymousreply 64July 13, 2021 5:05 PM

Call My Agent should have been nominated for Best Comedy (do the nominated shows have to be in English?)

by Anonymousreply 65July 13, 2021 5:07 PM

I feel for you, R60.

by Anonymousreply 66July 13, 2021 5:09 PM

Ethan Hawke was robbed.

by Anonymousreply 67July 13, 2021 5:27 PM

Are they trolling us with the “Emily in Paris” nomination?? That’s a glaringly ridiculous one to be named “best” anything. The rest of the noms sound fine to me I take it “succession” didn’t meet the criteria for this year’s awards- I was surprised to see no nominations for that show.

by Anonymousreply 68July 13, 2021 7:08 PM

It’s A Sin was bought and played on HBO Max but it wasn’t an HBO original. I don’t even think they submitted it for consideration

by Anonymousreply 69July 13, 2021 7:12 PM

Have we heard complaints about how all the nominees are on streaming and thus few DLers have heard of them?

by Anonymousreply 70July 13, 2021 7:15 PM

R70 they have This Is Us, the last primetime network series to be nominated it seems

by Anonymousreply 71July 13, 2021 7:18 PM

Black-ish (ABC) was also nominated.

by Anonymousreply 72July 13, 2021 7:20 PM

It's time to stop nominating these tired same people for awards, starting with The Handmaid's Tale, and Black-ish, and Janney, Macy, etc. You had your chance, no one watches your shitty shows anymore and you're not doing anything special in them.

Also- to pack the guest ACTOR in a comedy series with nearly all SNL hosts is ridiculous. The last time someone did anything nomination worthy on that show as a host was Tiffany Haddish back in 2017. All it does is keep real performances from being recognized.

Lastly- MJ Rodriguez got nominated for one reason only. Tranny. Can't act for shit and is cross eyed.

by Anonymousreply 73July 13, 2021 7:23 PM

It's a Sin- I've seen the show as a possible Emmy nomination prediction on GoldDerby and Variety.com as recently as June.

The show was greenlit by Channel 4 BECAUSE HBOMax agreed to help finance it. HBOMax insisted that it have at least one US recognizable actor like Neil Patrick Harris in it, and that was one of the reasons he was cast.

I bet they submitted it.

by Anonymousreply 74July 13, 2021 7:25 PM
Ethan Hawke was robbed.

I was sick, just sick that he wasn't nominated! I don't know what more the Academy wants. His performance and the show overall was fantastic.

"It's a Sin" was put up. I saw the For Your Consideration ads.

by Anonymousreply 75July 13, 2021 7:38 PM

Well as someone who was not that impressed by “it’s a sin” I’m surprised a mediocrity like “Emily“ got recognition and “it’s a sin” which was still a good watch did not.

by Anonymousreply 76July 13, 2021 7:45 PM

I don't think It's A Sin was aired during the eligible period.

by Anonymousreply 77July 13, 2021 7:46 PM

they were too busy nominating trannies

by Anonymousreply 78July 13, 2021 7:46 PM

What’s a travesty is that the actress from Underground Railroad was not nominated. That’s crazy.

by Anonymousreply 79July 13, 2021 7:47 PM

Most gay shows are overlooked.

by Anonymousreply 80July 13, 2021 7:51 PM

I'm surprised British lez(?) Cynthia Eurwhatever never catches any flack for playing American black female icons and not leaving enough chances for straight black American actresses to play them?

by Anonymousreply 81July 13, 2021 7:54 PM

R73, I agree that it's become ridiculous how those categories are now essentially Best Male and Female SNL hosts of the season Emmys. I don't even think SNL cast members belong in the Supporting categories either, and that results in a lot of lazy nominations in those categories.

Cecily Strong can be very funny but didn't show up for at least half of the episodes last year, while Kate McKinnon is actively off-putting at this point.

by Anonymousreply 82July 13, 2021 7:54 PM
What’s a travesty is that the actress from Underground Railroad was not nominated.

You mean Julia Roberts as Harriet Tubman?

by Anonymousreply 83July 13, 2021 7:57 PM

The Emmys used to be the Oscars' ugly little sister. But now that Oscar is the poor retarded child, what are the Emmys?

by Anonymousreply 84July 13, 2021 7:58 PM

They need stop giving fucking Emmy nominations to Kate McKinnon.

by Anonymousreply 85July 13, 2021 7:58 PM

R84 the aborted sibling

by Anonymousreply 86July 13, 2021 7:59 PM

I'm rooting for each nomination involving Mare of Easttown.

by Anonymousreply 87July 13, 2021 8:00 PM

Can't say I've watched too many new shows over the last year but happy to see Matthew Rhys (who was great in Perry Mason) and multiple Ted Lasso nominations. Lasso is one of the few shows that can make both my mother and I laugh, so I appreciate it for that.

by Anonymousreply 88July 13, 2021 8:01 PM
Ethan Hawke was robbed.

I agree. The Good Lord Bird was an underrated limited series. I also liked the actor who played ONion.

by Anonymousreply 89July 13, 2021 8:01 PM

Who is Lorne Michael's blackmailing to get these noms for his cast? Even Tracy Morgan being nominated for his half-assed sitcom that no one watches is downright embarrassing. And Bowen Yang...nope.

by Anonymousreply 90July 13, 2021 8:04 PM

*Lorne Michaels, oops.

by Anonymousreply 91July 13, 2021 8:05 PM

Broadcast shows like This is Us and Black-ish are decent shows, but they are overrated as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 92July 13, 2021 8:06 PM

R44 will ignore all the mediocre white shit that got nominated like Emily in Paris. Racist.

by Anonymousreply 93July 13, 2021 8:06 PM

R78 is the anti-trans troll. Hardly any trans people get nominated for anything

by Anonymousreply 94July 13, 2021 8:08 PM

r90 Tracy Morgan was not nominated for anything. Maybe you have him confused with Kenan Thompson.

by Anonymousreply 95July 13, 2021 8:08 PM

R59 is the racist who will whine about black people being nominated while slobbering over mediocre straight white guys like Evan Peters

by Anonymousreply 96July 13, 2021 8:09 PM

R94 Like there is only one?

by Anonymousreply 97July 13, 2021 8:12 PM

Female lead in a comedy is a difficult one for me, because I love Kaley Cuoco's The Flight Attendant, but also Jean Smart in Hacks. And then there's Allison Janney being nominated for the final season of Mom. I could see the votes being split between Allison and Jean and Kaley getting the win.

by Anonymousreply 98July 13, 2021 8:17 PM

Incredibly pleased for Ted Lasso, I May Destroy You, Mare Of Easttown and The Queen's Gambit

Disappointed that Marielle Heller didn't get a supporting nomination for Gambit but pleased that Moses Ingram did.

The best supporting actress nominations for The Crown and Handmaid's tale seem overly excessive

by Anonymousreply 99July 13, 2021 8:20 PM

Jean Smart is winning

by Anonymousreply 100July 13, 2021 8:48 PM

I don’t get Bridgerton as a drama, to me it’s a comedy. Did I laugh inappropriately?

by Anonymousreply 101July 13, 2021 8:59 PM

"Kate vs Michaela" will be the big story. Will Emmy voters choose white, straight, rich, established Kate over Michaela???

I enjoyed The Good Lord Bird very much but Ethan Hawke's performance was pretty one-note. Interesting and effective, but not award-worthy, IMHO.

SNL can just fuck off. All of those nominations are a load of horseshit.

by Anonymousreply 102July 13, 2021 8:59 PM

Will the “who is leaving SNL” drop before voting to get the extra push for certain individuals to win?

by Anonymousreply 103July 13, 2021 9:01 PM

Best Actress: Jean Smart

Best Supporting Actress: Jean Smart

Go Jean Smart!!

by Anonymousreply 104July 13, 2021 9:03 PM

I’m still blown away for lack of major awards nominations for The Underground Railroad, especially on the heels of Pose’s nominations.

by Anonymousreply 105July 13, 2021 9:03 PM
"Kate vs Michaela" will be the big story. Will Emmy voters choose white, straight, rich, established Kate over Michaela???

Isn't Anya Taylor Joy a consideration? She's won at the Golden Globes and SAGs.

by Anonymousreply 106July 13, 2021 9:04 PM

No one will convince me Michaela Cole wasn't born with a dick.

by Anonymousreply 107July 13, 2021 9:05 PM

Cecily Strong from SNL should have been nominated for her season finale outstanding hysterical performance of drunk performance of Jeanine Pirro.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 108July 13, 2021 9:07 PM

She won when those two weren't in consideration r106. Now they are, her competition just got a lot more real and I would consider her 3rd most likely.

by Anonymousreply 109July 13, 2021 9:08 PM

For those complaining about The Handmaid’s Tale’s nominations, this season was a complete game changer and the performances were spectacular. I think Alexis will prevail again, her arc definitely took an interesting twist. I’m just sad there wasn’t room to add the actress who play’s Janine who did some heavy lifting this season.

by Anonymousreply 110July 13, 2021 9:09 PM
I’m just sad there wasn’t room to add the actress who play’s Janine who did some heavy lifting this season.

I was stunned by the lack of nomination for Joseph Fiennes. If I had to pick, I would have dropped Max Minghella's nod in exchange for Fiennes. Fagbenle and Whitford are very deserving, Max not so much.

by Anonymousreply 111July 13, 2021 9:14 PM

Blackish, Lovecraft Country, Billy Porter, Jurnee Smollet, Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and Phylicia Rashad better win.

by Anonymousreply 112July 13, 2021 9:15 PM

R109, Taylor-Joy beat Coel at the SAG awards, and the Golden Globes didn't even nominate Coel at all. Taylor-Joy hasn't gone against Winslet, though.

I think Taylor-Joy has it. The Queen's Gambit was such a phenomenon, and it feels like such a star-making role that voters will probably choose her over Winslet.

by Anonymousreply 113July 13, 2021 9:17 PM

People are over Winslet and sad breasts.

by Anonymousreply 114July 13, 2021 9:18 PM

And obviously voters are over Nicole Kidman and her wigs. Dare I say that was her "Undoing".

by Anonymousreply 115July 13, 2021 9:23 PM

Awards have to be diverse now or they risk setting off a race riot.

by Anonymousreply 116July 13, 2021 9:25 PM

I will never be "over" Nic Kidman and her wigs and coats and whatever else she wants to share with us. Goddess.

by Anonymousreply 117July 13, 2021 9:53 PM

Kenan Thompson for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series is the most surprising nominee to me. He is painfully unfunny in his stale self-titled sitcom.

by Anonymousreply 118July 13, 2021 9:54 PM

Kenan Thompson doesn't have an ounce of talent.

by Anonymousreply 119July 13, 2021 9:55 PM

I like Nicole Kidman 🤷

I want Elizabeth Olsen to win.

by Anonymousreply 120July 13, 2021 9:56 PM

I am sooooo happy Kathryn Hahn got nominated for WandaVision. She was a delight.

by Anonymousreply 121July 13, 2021 9:56 PM

I think Lorne Michaels and SNL have rigged the system and stacked the deck in their favor. How did that happen?

by Anonymousreply 122July 13, 2021 9:57 PM

The Upshaws should have gotten several noms. Especially Wanda Sykes for Best Supporting Actress.

Alicia Goranson also deserved one for The Connors.

by Anonymousreply 123July 13, 2021 9:59 PM

The three best things about The Undoing were Nicole's green coat, Lily Rabe, and Noma Dumezweni's accents,

by Anonymousreply 124July 13, 2021 10:04 PM

Why haven't any of you fags giving me any love for Mahalia's nomination?

WHY?

by Anonymousreply 125July 13, 2021 10:04 PM

I’m ecstatic over The Boys nomination, I’m not of fan of the Marvel/DC worlds and anyone who doesn’t get that obsession this show is for you. The inclusion of the Nazi story line this past season and the truth who’s manipulating everyone really upped the game and the performances were just as worthy of nominations which I wished they had gotten too. Season three is about to drop, I highly recommend people to give it a try, I think many will be drawn in by the great story telling and anti hero hero superheroes.

by Anonymousreply 126July 13, 2021 10:08 PM

R124, the very best thing about The Undoing was the way that Noma Dumezweni said "muck."

I would have nominated her for Supporting Actress for that alone.

by Anonymousreply 127July 13, 2021 10:08 PM
I’m ecstatic over The Boys nomination, I’m not of fan of the Marvel/DC worlds and anyone who doesn’t get that obsession this show is for you.

The interesting thing is "The Boys" is part of the DC world. The comic was published under DC's imprint Wildstorm.

Although I didn't stick with it I was very surprised that neither Bryan Cranston, Michael Stuhlbarg or even the writing for Showtime's "Your Honor" was recognized. It was award bait through and through.

by Anonymousreply 128July 13, 2021 10:14 PM

R75: ""Ethan Hawke was robbed."

I was sick, just sick that he wasn't nominated! I don't know what more the Academy wants."

MARY!

by Anonymousreply 129July 13, 2021 10:21 PM

Is that a joke r126.

The Boys is still a comic book show, and a ton of its fanbase are people who are into the Marvel/DC stuff.

by Anonymousreply 130July 13, 2021 10:22 PM

I was not a Bowen Yang fan. But I laughed my ass off at him playing the iceberg that sank the Titanic.

by Anonymousreply 131July 13, 2021 10:23 PM

Bowen Yang makes Kenan look talented.

by Anonymousreply 132July 13, 2021 10:25 PM

R131, THAT made you laugh your ass off?

Wow.

by Anonymousreply 133July 13, 2021 10:27 PM

Who was nominated for the best Asian non-trans actor in a Black trans dramatic role?

by Anonymousreply 134July 13, 2021 10:29 PM

Yes, R133, the iceberg that sank the Titanic crossed with the Real Housewives crossed with cancel culture is very, very funny.

R133: "Wow."

Me: Fuck off, Nancyboy.

by Anonymousreply 135July 13, 2021 10:29 PM

R134 is a bore.

by Anonymousreply 136July 13, 2021 10:42 PM

I know it's a very unpopular opinion around these parts but I like American Horror Story, I think Evan Peters has been wonderful in almost every season, he was great in Mare of Easttown, and I hope he wins an Emmy.

by Anonymousreply 137July 13, 2021 10:48 PM
I know it's a very unpopular opinion around these parts but I like American Horror Story

I think a lot of people (in general and on this board) like the show R137, but it is VERY hit or miss. I’d given a thumbs up to 5 or 6 seasons out of 9.

by Anonymousreply 139July 13, 2021 11:30 PM

Kenan Thompson sucks on SNL and on his sitcom. He was even awful as a kid on shows like All That, Kenan&Kel, and the other things he did during his child star days.

by Anonymousreply 140July 13, 2021 11:32 PM

Evan Peters was the best thing about Mare of Eastown by far. Hope he wins.

Also really want Jean Smart to win for Hacks (aka, the thinly veiled Joan Rivers story).

by Anonymousreply 141July 13, 2021 11:36 PM
Kenan Thompson sucks on SNL and on his sitcom. He was even awful as a kid on shows like All That, Kenan&Kel, and the other things he did during his child star days.

I love that Kenan has made it. That's a true child actor success story, but he was not good in those things. Even judging it on the basis that nearly all kid actors are atrociously hammy Kenan was truly the worst of the worst offender at bad child acting. Nick Cannon, Lori Beth Denberg and crazy Amanda Bynes were excellent on "All That", but Kenan is as hammy now as he was then.

by Anonymousreply 142July 13, 2021 11:37 PM

I hope Emma Corrin wins for "The Crown." I'm not sure whether she chose the engagement episode or the Australia episode, but she deserves it for either . I worry Olivia Colman--who didn't have a great episode this season, but of course had to be nominated because she's Olivia Colman playing the Queen--will siphon off votes and so neither will win.

by Anonymousreply 143July 14, 2021 12:06 AM

I hope that horse woman Colman loses. Award stealing cunt.

by Anonymousreply 144July 14, 2021 12:09 AM

The one I most want to win is Kathryn Hahn for "WandaVision." As far as I'm concerned that was the performance of the year.

by Anonymousreply 145July 14, 2021 12:12 AM

Yeah R145. Olson was fine/good, but Hahn was the standout for that series. She deserves it.

by Anonymousreply 146July 14, 2021 12:22 AM

Pose deserved nothing this season. Season three was horrible, except for Elektra's episode. In fact, I think if anyone deserved a nomination, it was Dominique. She improved dramatically this season and was great in her backstory episode. Nothing against MJ but she mostly just recited earnest dialogue and lectured people.

Billy Porter was playing to the last role, hammed it up so bad. He reeked of desperation for another Emmy nomination.

by Anonymousreply 147July 14, 2021 12:45 AM

Yes Billy Porter was not good in this season. But I’m really glad MJ was nominated. Katherine Hahn is one of my favourite actors. I hate the way they just nominate the one show- did handmaids really deserve all those acting nominations?

by Anonymousreply 149July 14, 2021 1:20 AM

37% of the top acting nominees are POC, mostly black. Is that enough?

by Anonymousreply 152July 14, 2021 3:37 AM

I was hoping for a nomination for Sheila Atim from Underground Railroad. Episode 10, “Mabel” was almost totally about her. She had so much presence, and conveyed so much with little dialogue.

Was What We Do in The Shadows eligible? If not, it’s weird that it got so many noms last year, and nothing this year.

Thrilled for Pen15. It’s a brilliant show.

by Anonymousreply 153July 14, 2021 4:01 AM
I take it “succession” didn’t meet the criteria for this year’s awards- I was surprised to see no nominations for that show.

It had no season out this year (they're just wrapping it now). Season 2 won Best Drama last year.

by Anonymousreply 154July 14, 2021 4:23 AM
Was What We Do in The Shadows eligible?

No. The eligibility window was June 1, 2020 through May 31, 2021. Their second season ended June 10, 2020.

by Anonymousreply 155July 14, 2021 4:46 AM
I was not a Bowen Yang fan. But I laughed my ass off at him playing the iceberg that sank the Titanic.

I just read that Yang made history as the first featured player ever to be nominated on SNL.

by Anonymousreply 156July 14, 2021 4:49 AM
Alicia Goranson also deserved one for The Connors.

I agree. It took the Emmys years and years to break free of its long-held habit of only nominating shows from the broadcast networks and finally recognize shows on cable (and, years later, streaming). Now they've completely turned the corner and it's no longer cool to nominate anything or anybody from the broadcast networks (they're lucky if they get 3 a year), plus the fact Goranson is giving her performance, however great, in a reboot of an old show, so I doubt she ever really had a chance.

by Anonymousreply 157July 14, 2021 5:02 AM

Without a doubt, the ratings will very low. Too many nominations to the same boring faces. Sara Paulson? The Handmaid's Tale? Black-ish? Please.

Oh and remember the Red Carpet will be hosted by Laverne Cox. Can you imagine?

by Anonymousreply 158July 14, 2021 5:41 AM

The only shows the voters actually watched are The Crown, The Handmaid's Tale, that Kate Winslet show and Ted Lasso.

The rest of the time they just check boxes of names they know or black people to be woke.

by Anonymousreply 159July 14, 2021 5:58 AM
Without a doubt, the ratings will very low. Too many nominations to the same boring faces. Sara Paulson?

Paulson isn't nominated.

Imagine being so fucking racist to type that on a public forum imagine being so fucking ignorant about tv you don’t know anything about the popularity of tv shows with black actors in.

by Anonymousreply 161July 14, 2021 6:58 AM

imagine ending a sentence with a preposition r161

which shows are popular with Academy members r161? I doubt many of the elderly white voting block (which is the majority of the academy) watch any of them.

by Anonymousreply 162July 14, 2021 7:06 AM

Why do they have like 8 nominees in some category? Why not 5, like in another award ceremonies. The number of nominees in the acting categories aren’t consistent either.

by Anonymousreply 163July 14, 2021 8:57 AM

Oops thanks r160, I saw her name listed, but I see it was for a group called Hollywood Critics Association from last week!

However it was amusing to return to Twitter and see all of the angry posts because Paulson was NOT nominated.

by Anonymousreply 164July 14, 2021 10:50 AM

R153 I would have loved for PEN15 to have scored some acting noms too.

by Anonymousreply 165July 14, 2021 11:40 AM

So, no white person will win anything this year?

by Anonymousreply 166July 14, 2021 12:05 PM

I think Jean Smart and Kate Winslet are going to win.

However, as some have pointed out on Twitter, white people are underrepresented.

by Anonymousreply 167July 14, 2021 1:08 PM

Emily in Paris????

by Anonymousreply 168July 14, 2021 2:05 PM

It’s too bad Lisey’s story wasn’t eligible. The show itself isn’t all that great, but Julianne Moore and especially Joan Allen deserve nominations. It hasn’t gotten much attention and will be really forgotten by the time next year's nominations come around.

PLEASE don’t let Billy Porter win. He was terrible in the last season of Pose.

by Anonymousreply 169July 14, 2021 2:13 PM

Bowen Yang ticks two diversity boxes. That’s why he was nominated.

by Anonymousreply 170July 14, 2021 4:37 PM

I'm glad that Julianne Nicholson got nominated and hopefully win. I believe this is her first ever Emmy nomination/win if ever?

by Anonymousreply 171July 14, 2021 4:43 PM
which shows are popular with Academy members [R161]? I doubt many of the elderly white voting block (which is the majority of the academy) watch any of them.

The voting bloc aren't watching entire seasons - they're only watching what the performer submitted. They don't have to religiously watch a series to judge whether an actor is worthy of a nomination.

by Anonymousreply 172July 14, 2021 5:45 PM

I can't believe the South African actress Thuso Mbedu didn't get nominated for The Underground Railroad. Emmys had an opportunity to be classy and instead went for tacky. They should've excluded Erivo.

Erm, there was room for both Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle in Best Actress in a Comedy for PEN15. No need to nominate Allison Janney, Tracie Ellis-Ross, etc. They should be giving special Emmys to PEN15, it's unbelievable what these two do.

Enough with the Hamilton nominations already. So stupid.

Steve McQueen and Small Axe really got a raw deal.

by Anonymousreply 173July 14, 2021 5:59 PM

I believe the reasons they expanded the numbers of nominees a few years back was because year after year the same people were getting nominated, often coasting off of better performances earlier in the run.

By adding a few slots, it guaranteed some fresh faces whose work would be screened by voters.

I thought Peters was quite good but his character was killed off to soon to make a strong impact.

MJ deserved the nomination, succeeding in bringing life to her character despite terrible writing. (And the fact that Pose was nominated for writing… don’t get me started. Writing profs could pick almost any episode this season and use it as an example of how not to write.)

by Anonymousreply 174July 14, 2021 6:32 PM
I believe the reasons they expanded the numbers of nominees a few years back was because year after year the same people were getting nominated, often coasting off of better performances earlier in the run. I'm sure R174 is absolutely right. I just always figured it was the Emmys following in the Oscars' footsteps after the Motion Picture Academy opened up the best picture category to more than 5 nominees (after the whole "Dark Knight" controversy). Perhaps my timing is off but it just seemed after that happened, it opened the door for expanding the amount of nominees in other categories. (Interestingly, AMPAS has kept its acting categories restricted to 5 nominees.)

by Anonymousreply 175July 14, 2021 7:38 PM

They only submit episodes after they are nominated and voting for the winners. r172

There are often hundreds of submissions in any given category (most ludicrous that don't stand a chance but contracts demand they be submitted anyway.)

Even then it is thought that very few people watch the submitted episode and instead vote for the shows they regularly watch like Handmaid's Tale etc.

I seriously doubt much of the elderly white academy watched Zendaya's show and thought she was the best. She won because of George Floyd.

by Anonymousreply 176July 14, 2021 9:38 PM

Zendaya won because she gave the best performance of an otherwise mediocre group.

The other nominees were hardly stellar themselves.

by Anonymousreply 177July 14, 2021 10:06 PM

“Mare” is a triumph. Kate will win but she’ll do a sobby “Michaela, you were robbed!” thing in her acceptance speech.

by Anonymousreply 178July 14, 2021 10:19 PM

hardly r177

Laura Linney was excellent as was Oliva Colman.

(and no one in the Academy watched Euphoria I'd be willing to bet.)

by Anonymousreply 179July 14, 2021 11:55 PM
Laura Linney was excellent as was Oliva Colman.

Laura Linney is as exciting as watching paint dry.

And Olivia already won an underserved oscar. She didn't need an additional Emmy to compound that felony.

by Anonymousreply 180July 15, 2021 12:53 AM

Janet Mock Pussy has an Emmy nomination? Lord, a hack writer.

by Anonymousreply 181July 15, 2021 12:55 AM

Olivia Colman is an overrated hack.

Stop giving her awards. And you plebians who would smell her farts can go fuck off as well.

She's a fat faced hag.

by Anonymousreply 182July 15, 2021 12:58 AM
Laura Linney is as exciting as watching paint dry.

You clearly did not see her in the most recent season of “Ozark.” She was stunning.

One of those 100 supporting Handmaid’s Tale nominations should have gone to Janet McTeer who was fantastic alongside Linney and Bateman.

by Anonymousreply 183July 15, 2021 12:58 AM

Bridgerton has some important nominations - - and I'm surprised. It's just not that great.

by Anonymousreply 184July 15, 2021 1:03 AM

Bridgerton was nominated because they know it's a pop culture phenomenon. They need viewers.

by Anonymousreply 185July 15, 2021 1:05 AM

Bridgerton seems like ten years ago now, that’s the level of it’s true insignificance.

by Anonymousreply 186July 15, 2021 1:16 AM

It’s embarrassing all the nominations they gave to Bridgerton which is just Edwardian soft core pron. It’s fine that it has an audience but they don’t need to nominate it for awards. I just laugh every time they nominate that Rege Jean-Page. He was just a pretty thing to look at and the role mostly required him to jerk himself off. The drama and comedy nominations are woeful anyway.

by Anonymousreply 187July 15, 2021 9:22 AM

Bridgerton is from Shonda Rhimes. I think she must be in Hollywood's version of Skull & Bones. That's why she gets all the big money deals and awards.

I am starting to wonder if Darren Star is in some sort of trouble, and he needs Emily in Paris to be as big as Bridgerton? I don't think it's Netflix pushing Emily In Paris for all these awards.

by Anonymousreply 188July 15, 2021 9:45 AM

Bridgerton was a well made tv series. It had high production values, was well written and perfectly cast. And the millions of people who watched it really enjoyed it.

And Rege Jean-Page gave the stand out performance. It's clear from his interviews that he's nothing like the character. Whether it's more comedy or drama is a separate issue.

by Anonymousreply 189July 15, 2021 12:37 PM
One of those 100 supporting Handmaid’s Tale nominations should have gone to Janet McTeer who was fantastic alongside Linney and Bateman.

The last season of Ozark qualified for last year's Emmys.

by Anonymousreply 190July 15, 2021 12:45 PM

Bridgerton is one of those junky shows made for tweens and the adults who behave like tweens. If you enjoyed it, great, but that's some shitty television.

by Anonymousreply 191July 15, 2021 12:47 PM

R189? We're embarrassed for you.

by Anonymousreply 192July 15, 2021 2:05 PM
[R189]? We're embarrassed for you.

Do you wash your hands after changing your diaper?

by Anonymousreply 193July 15, 2021 2:55 PM

"It's a Sin" would have gotten some nominations had the series been more than 5 episodes. The characters could have been more deeply developed had they been 10 to 12 episodes. Would love to see a second season with the remaining characters. Callum Scott-Howells should have gotten a nomination. Olly Alexander was miscast as the lead, and was not a loveable character.

by Anonymousreply 194July 15, 2021 3:01 PM

r194, I don't think award shows care about the likability of the characters. And I think the show would've been a perfect fit for the mini series category.

Plus, if reports are right about Davis' full vision of the series, it was a good choice to cut it down to the number of episodes as it is. And I think Olly was right for the defiant, at first, ignoramous who has to suffer for the consequences of his actions and still maintain some shred of dignity where he doesn't regret his choice of having sex with men.

by Anonymousreply 195July 15, 2021 3:32 PM

Bridgerton is the most watched series ever across all streaming platforms, and it's a good show. The Emmys were smart to recognize it. The Oscars should take note.

by Anonymousreply 196July 15, 2021 4:00 PM

R196 And the NYT Best Seller List is full of crap books that can barely be considered literature, quantity of consumption has absolutely nothing to do with quality, in fact it should be a red flag that it’s not.

by Anonymousreply 197July 15, 2021 4:15 PM

I would nominate Bridgerton before I nominate Succession.

Talk about a shit show. Maybe something decent this year will win this year.

by Anonymousreply 198July 15, 2021 4:38 PM

So you think the Oscars should have showered awards on Bad Boys for Life, last year's highest grossing movie, R196?

by Anonymousreply 199July 15, 2021 4:38 PM

Award shows always struggle to find the balance between using mainstream movies to attract viewers (rooting for these mainstream movies and their actors) and credible art house movies the mainstream, and the movies' critics, dismiss as garbage made by elitist posers.

by Anonymousreply 200July 15, 2021 4:49 PM

Of course the Bridgerton fan (I'm assuming she's 11) hates Succession. Of course she does.

by Anonymousreply 201July 15, 2021 5:52 PM

Bridgerton was a fun enough diversion during the pandemic, but in NO WAY is it better than Succession.

by Anonymousreply 202July 15, 2021 6:11 PM

Bridgerton was just trash for simpletons. I don't watch Succession because I don't care about rich people's problems.

by Anonymousreply 203July 15, 2021 8:18 PM

I think "Special" on Netflix was deserving of nominations at least for the actresses who played his mother and best friend. They both gave fabulous performances.

by Anonymousreply 204July 16, 2021 12:00 AM

So who are the three or four white people who will win something?

by Anonymousreply 205July 16, 2021 12:10 PM

So, do we have a date for this extravaganza and location, perhaps a citrus grove or the Getty Center gardens?

by Anonymousreply 206July 16, 2021 12:17 PM

I’m a Kenan Thompson fan and looked forward to his show but it is painfully unfunny. How did this show get on the air? It’s like. I one watched it after post production.

by Anonymousreply 207July 16, 2021 1:59 PM

I really hope Lilly Collins is part of some cruel prank by a producer with sway. It’s actually embarrassing that Emily in Paris was nominated…and she’ll have to listen to the hysterical laughter when it’s named as a nominee at the ceremony.

by Anonymousreply 208July 16, 2021 6:21 PM

r206 it is currently scheduled for the Mircosoft Theater but Delta and the new mask mandate in LA will probably push it to zoom.

Nobody seems to care anyway. I've noticed traffic on awards websites (comments and stuff) were very low this year.

Look at DL. The thread only has 200 responses in 4 days.

by Anonymousreply 209July 16, 2021 9:53 PM

R208 I don’t see it on any level as being worthy of a nomination. Writing was bad, acting not great and production…. well I’ve seen better.

by Anonymousreply 210July 16, 2021 10:07 PM

Has Jada weighed in with her seal of approval on these nominations?

by Anonymousreply 211July 16, 2021 10:10 PM

So Bridgerton and Emily were some Netflix power move blackmail to get them on the nominee roster?

by Anonymousreply 212July 16, 2021 10:14 PM

This says some very accurate things.
