The lawmakers arrived in Washington to advocate for federal voting rights legislation, risking arrest by leaving during the special session.
Texas Democrats flee state in effort to block GOP-backed voting restrictions

the governor just vowed to arrest them

If these bills get passed the Dems should do everything in their power to overwhelm the courts and prisons. Can you imagine how annoyed the judges would be having an onslaught of court cases having to deal with such frivolous bullshit!

R1, it's good to know how much voter suppression means to them.

Democrats flee the state to help preserve Constitutional Rights of its citizens.
Republican Ted Cruz fled the state to avoid suffering what his own constituents were suffering, the coward.

Yes R4...big difference. There's still some honor in Democrats...zilch, non with repubs.

*none^^

Man, these red states are really circling the drain. Texas voters don't really support this.
Abbott and the Texas GOP are some of the most evil motherfuckers on Earth. How did this disabled man have such lack of empathy for others? Oh that's right - so does Madison Cawthorne.
They should be arrested themselves for trying to take away people's enfranchisement.

Why is this being buried?

The very laws that even allows these two scumbags to go anywhere so they can be normal is because of the ADA. If this current GOP were in control back then, these two assholes would still be crawling just to get into businesses.

I had family move there for work and they couldn't wait to leave. I don't know how anyone who leans left can live there, unless they can't afford to leave.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 13, 2021 8:29 PM |
At least they have the guts.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 13, 2021 10:03 PM |
Too bad Democrats in the Senate and Congress don't have the same balls.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 13, 2021 10:18 PM |
While this move is effective in keeping the focus on what the TX GOP is doing, it can only go on for so long before a backlash starts. At some point TX voters will start thinking "OK, I understand this to a point, but these people need to come back and do their jobs. There are other bills that need to be dealt with."
In the end, the Democrats don't have the numbers to kill this bill completely. The best they can do is weaken it a little further. That's reality. So Texas Democrats need to quickly plan and execute a strategy to overcome any new restrictions and lay a path for citizens to vote.
And I'm really tired of people here who whine constantly about the Democrats in the House and Senate, as if Pelosi and Schumer are supposed to wave a magic wand and make voter suppression disappear. Also, the House passed the For The People Act already, which is balls enough.
The Senate, like the TX legislature, doesn't give the Democrats the numbers. Balls have nothing to do with it, except for Manchin and Sinema. We need more Democrats in the Senate - it's as simple as that.

R15, you know why we go after Pelosi and Schumer? Because they will keep pivoting to an infrastructure bill. There is no point in an infrastructure bill if our country's system of governing has collapsed. Schumer needs to say out loud that those two assholes are destroying the party and the country by aligning with anti-democratic Republicans. That they are showing their lack of empathy by not understanding how serious this is. WTF could WV do? That state of leeches is already hardcore red. Are they going to refuse their welfare? Schumer SOUNDS weak and that's the problem. McConnell rides roughshod over him.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 13, 2021 10:55 PM |
Why...still, with the Democrat majority in the Senate, Mitch the bitch is still pulling strings?? Why doesn't Schumer have the same "gumption" to unite the Senate...now that they have a short window of time, before it switches back to repubs?? I'm tired of the defending of a weak party, when we are in crisis now with our Democracy. Why don't they get more creative...like repubs do, not caring about optics so much? Dems have both houses now...but not for long.

R15, the Texas state legislature is just part-time, it normally doesn’t do very much. That’s why this rebellion is so surprising. All of these people have other, “real” jobs, no one was expecting much from them. Apart from that, I agree completely with your post.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 13, 2021 11:04 PM |
R17, even the Reps ones who know what McConnell is doing is wrong will still align with the GOP. They fall in line. Schumer doesn't have that gravitas.

Reading R20's post...holy shit, this country is sounding like Sunni vs Shiite in the middle east...with that diatribe by Georgia's repub governor, regarding Democrats.

All of what the republicans are doing is what their dark money backers are paying them to do. I don't know why no one is blaming the elite, the richest people on the planet.

If it means blue states as one and red states as another, I have no problem with it. As a blue state taxpayer, WTF should I fund idiots who get to have more power than I do and use that power to turn the country into a shithole with its beliefs?
We are beholden to troglodytes who don't believe in science, education, equality, and that a president can literally be scum of the earth who couldn't even pass a citizenship test, and then have the audacity to scream about liberals with their hands out when they are the ones with no fucking money!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 14, 2021 5:17 PM |
R16, what part of "the House already passed the For The People Act" did you not grasp? Pelosi and the House Democrats have done their part.
BTW, an infrastructure bill is critical to the 2022 election as it creates jobs.
McConnell is able to corral the Republicans because if they don't fall in line, they're likely to be primaried by some even worse troglodyte or be screwed in some other way by McConnell himself.
Senate Democrats generally don't worry so much about being primaried as the party hasn't been taken over by complete wackadoodles (regardless of what conservatives say). And if Schumer tried to fuck them over, I'm sure at least some of them would go public about it.

You think the avg voter knows which party is responsible? The $1400 alone should've been enough to make people understand who has their best interests at heart.
And you're still not getting it. The current bills across the country will be in effect FOR 2022. It doesn't matter if people even vote for Dems if a Rep-led state legislature can simply overturn that vote in favor of Republicans.
