Excellent film, I’ll be watching. Let the countdown begin: 10 minutes!

I didn’t realize how dark it was.

Are we watching?

It’s been a few years since I’d seen it and I’d forgotten how beautiful this movie is.

Very accomplished film is one of Polanski's best and as good as any film Dunaway or Nicholson ever appeared in.

I'm glad you little homosexual boys still appreciate my legacy.

Excellent choice for TCM to include in their neo-noir night. The film plays against the audience’s noir expectations, making us suspicious of Faye Dunaway’s femme fatale character from the start. She then ends up being the most tragic and sympathetic character in the whole picture. What a bleak, but brilliant ending.

Love it....saw it when it was released....one of Faye Dunaway's best roles.......it's a masterpiece.
even if it was directed by a serial pedophile.

Forget it, Jake -- it's La-La Land.

Sync it up with the commentary track on YT by Robert Towne and David Fincher

I’ve seen that commentary vid on YouTube r12. Sorry to be stupid, but how do I sync it?

Weird how you can divide Polanski's career with this film. His post-Chinatown (post-rape?) films aren't very interesting or good.
He has a new one coming out. Buncha towelheads yelling at each other. Pass.

I watched this last night. I'd seen it once or twice before when I was younger, but this time I really paid attention and the film left me gobsmacked. I felt so sad and defeated as the credits rolled.

R19, in Robert Towne's original script, Evelyn and Jake kill her father, and evil is, at least temporarily, thwarted. Polanski insisted that the ending offer no hope.

Imagine Dunaway playing the role using her Joan Crawford persona:

I dropped TCM it was getting too annoying with all of their own ads. I have about 4 or 5 various formats of Chinatown, I don't need to watch it on TCM.

R18 The Pianist stands with Polanski's best for which he received a now rescinded Oscar for direction and The Pianist certainly deserved Best Picture over Chicago. And don't discount the film he made right after Chinatown, The Tenant an effectively creepy companion piece to Rosemary's Baby and Repulsion. And Tess which I've never seen is generally held in high regard by critics was a nominated for Best Picture and Director. And Frantic is a better than average thriller.

R22, which is the best format? I’ve noticed there are several DVD releases. I’ve been thinking of buying one. Is the double DVD the most exhaustive?

I just watched it for probably the 15th time. I always notice something I never really took in before. This time, it's that at the end, Jake Gittes physically stops Escobar from shooting at Evelyn's fleeing car. So another cop steps up and fires the fatal shots. If only. That last scene really gets me.

It's a brilliant film, possibly the greatest of the 1970s. Jack and Faye are superb.

Bump, I’m watching for the billionth time. I always notice some new little detail, this time the black guy looking on, nonchalantly eating a sandwich and drinking a Coke while Jake and Morty examine a dead body in the morgue.

I could watch it everyday and still find something. I’m thinking of getting a Blu-ray of Chinatown, but haven’t been able to figure out which one is the definitive version.

Who rescinded it? I never heard of that happening.
