AHS Spinoff "American Horror Stories" Announces Its Cast!

Back in June, Ryan Murphy shared a screen grab of the chat on his Instagram account and casually mentioned in the text description that the gang will soon work together on a spinoff show titled American Horror Stories. Now, we have a full list of the stars of the new anthology series.

For due diligence, here are all the names on board: Matt Bomer, Gavin Creel, Sierra McCormick, Ashley Martin Carter, Paris Jackson, Belissa Escobedo, Kaia Gerber, Aaron Tveit, Rhenzy Feliz, Madison Bailey, Kyle Red Silverstein, Amy Grabow (as Tipper Gore!), John Carroll Lynch, Naomi Grossman, Dyllón Burnside, Nico Greetham, Charles Melton, Kevin McHale, Danny Trejo (as Santa!), Billie Lourd, and Virginia Gardner.

American Horror Stories‘ latest teaser is both spooky and incredibly vague.

Murphy is truly giving nothing away in the minute-long teaser, which takes a little trip down American Horror Story lane. Murphy loves to drop little hints, so we can only assume this is a clue of some sort. Will the episodes be set within established AHS universes? Or are they just a clue for what’s next? Another question we do have, however, is who exactly is the spooky figure guiding us through AHS‘s past?

According to Variety, FX has confirmed that the green light has been given for American Horror Stories has been officially greenlit. The one-hour anthology series will borrow from American Horror Story‘s gambit of constant reinvention, but at a much shorter pace. While the original series takes an entire season to tell a spooky story, the new show will tell “contained” stories per episode. Sort of like The Twiteaslight Zone and other horror anthologies.

Among those on tap for American Horror Stories are Glee alum Kevin McHale, Dyllón Burnside (Pose), Charles Melton (Riverdale), and Nico Greetham (The Prom). We don’t know who else will feature into episodes of American Horror Stories, but considering the language Murphy used in his Instagram post, it seems likely that all of the cast included on the chat will be involved in some way. That includes Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, the original’s constants (although Peters did not appear in the last season, 1984), along with the most legendary ensemble member, Jessica Lange. Lange left the show after Freak Show but turned up for an episode of Apocalypse a few seasons later. She continues to work with Murphy pretty regularly.

Other regular cast members on the call were Lily Rabe, Denis O’Hare, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Angelica Ross, Leslie Grossman, Finn Wittrock, Taissa Farmiga, Billie Lourd, Dylan McDermott, Adina Porter, and Cody Fern.

Season 10 of American Horror Story, subtitled Double Feature, is set to premiere on August 25. And it stars Macaulay Culkin will star, along with returning cast members Bates, Paulson, Peters, Grossman, Lourd, Porter, Rabe, Ross, and Wittrock. But before we delve into a season-long horror show, we’re getting a bite-sized taste. American Horror Stories will premiere on July 15 on FX on Hulu.

Kaia Gerber? Really?

Why not cast Lourdes Ciccone and Roman Beckham?

I mean, this stunt casting has become fucking RIDICKULOUS.

Oh, a mermaid; groundbreaking.

Ryan Murphy doesn't do "stunt casting."

by Anonymousreply 3July 7, 2021 11:53 PM

Stunt Casting?

What the hell is that?

by Anonymousreply 4July 7, 2021 11:55 PM

Where is Cody Fern? He has done Eden in Australia- which doesn’t look great- but it’s good he got a credit away from Murphy to show he can. It’s been Covid, but he has really fallen off.

by Anonymousreply 5July 7, 2021 11:56 PM

Mmmm... Finn Wittcock

by Anonymousreply 6July 7, 2021 11:57 PM

We better finally get Aaron Tveit nudity.

by Anonymousreply 7July 7, 2021 11:59 PM

Aaron Tveit is hot and gay!

Love him.

R5 Cody’s rumoured to be filming episode 6 of American Horror Stories at the moment. It’s the one currently filming at Big Bear Lake.

And as for Eden, having seen it already, I actually thought his acting in episode 3, which was his character’s main episode was some of his best acting work since Versace but that’s just my opinion as a fan of his.

He’s also just completed a film with Mark Wahlberg a couple of months ago as well called ‘Stu’ where he’s going to be playing a catholic priest and in a recent interview for Man About Town he said that he’d co-written a mini series last year that’s been picked up for production and that he’s got another film he’s doing later this year Covid permitting and there’s rumours he might be in the second half of AHS: Double Feature because it’s going to be a different cast than the first half so he’s got some stuff going on.

Tomorrow is the premiere!

But I don't have HULU. :o(

by Anonymousreply 10July 15, 2021 2:25 AM

Not MORE AHS and Sarah Paulson. Enough. Enough. Enough.

And, where is Chrissy's invitation to dine?

That dialogue!

That plot!

Everyone had to be incredibly stupid to even make the plot work.

They have cheapened the first season featuring the Murder House with these episodes.

And at some point in the second episode, it starts to go into a weird "comedy" territory with Matt B*mer and Gavin Creel talking to the actress who plays their daughter. I'd say it was good seeing Aaron Tveit as their contractor but I wish it wasn't on this trash.

In any case, it's clear this series is for teenagers who are old enough to watch ... whatever the hell this was.

The episodes were focused on the daughter and her social life.

The dialogue was ABSOLUTELY HORRID.

Ryan Murphy really is the gay Tyler Perry but at least Tyler Perry can actually write and do comedy even if it's stupid.

I hope the rest of the season is better than those first two episodes because they were absolutely awful. Thank god it’s a different story every episode because I couldn’t tolerate a full season of them and their stupidity. I have a feeling episode 4 is going to be just as bad based on the synopsis for it.

by Anonymousreply 15July 15, 2021 10:41 AM

Yeah to make that plot work they had to make the characters so dumb. I went in with low expectations and was still disappointed.

by Anonymousreply 16July 15, 2021 1:45 PM

I'm totally offended by the story. If any of you know the history of cinema and tv you would know how they treated gay and lesbian storylines from the 20's to the 80's. Killer gay people are not what we need right now in this country. Most Americans are dumb! Some will believe this is a true trait of gays. That is what happed in the past. Look it up!

Seriously though, Murphy’s nepotism fetish is severely affecting the quality of his shows now and he needs to go back to actually taking chances on actors fresh from drama schools who could act circles around the famous spawn he’s obsessed with collecting and all of the stunt casting he’s been doing recently. Those first two episodes were an embarrassment and not even campy in a fun way. Watching Kaia Gerber attempt to “perform” in part 2 was just painful. So wooden and flat and he’s added her to part 2 of Double Feature as well? No thanks. If she’s the best audition he’s seen in a very long time then he needs to stop auditioning influencers and other famous people’s children and go looking for some actual unknown acting talent elsewhere instead and give them opportunities they otherwise wouldn’t have gotten.

At this point I’ll just be sticking around for Fern’s cannibal Wrong Turn rip off episode because that one sounds like it might actually have potential compared with what else is to come from the series. It’s definitely sounding more and more like AHS lite compared to what I was expecting. I’d had a lot of hope for it so it’s disappointing to see the direction it’s going in so far.

by Anonymousreply 18July 16, 2021 12:40 PM

Is this still on? People are actually still watching this? It’s been unwatchable since the circus season and that was years ago.

by Anonymousreply 19July 16, 2021 12:41 PM

R19 - this is a spin off anthology. But it feels like AHS - The Leftover Season Ideas. I agree with the casting. The bad acting just cheapens everything.

by Anonymousreply 20July 16, 2021 12:49 PM

Ryan! Ryan! I'm over here on al fours waiting for you! Where's my part!

by Anonymousreply 21July 16, 2021 12:59 PM

Is there something for Colton?

“Due diligence?”

by Anonymousreply 23July 16, 2021 1:25 PM

Its crazy that Murphy said Gerber's audition was the best he had seen in years. Does he not hold auditions?

by Anonymousreply 24July 16, 2021 2:12 PM

She was so wooden. Her audition must have been a lot better.

by Anonymousreply 25July 16, 2021 2:13 PM

Even Billie Lourd’s episode is partly a rehash of Sarah Paulson’s Cordelia storyline in the Coven season based on the synopsis for it.

by Anonymousreply 26July 16, 2021 2:53 PM

But maybe it's a more extreme version of Cordelia's story. Her ritual failed but maybe this upcoming one ends with a tragedy or death. In one clip Lourd looks like a spirit or ghost.

by Anonymousreply 27July 16, 2021 2:58 PM

There seem to be three threads about this show, which one is the official one?

by Anonymousreply 28July 24, 2021 5:46 PM

OK, I didn’t read the background on this series, so maybe some of these are given if you have:

1) Is this a YA show, or is it just the first three have teen characters at the center?

2) They could have easily just done it as season of the regular series as a collection of individual standalone episodes and it still would have fit the anthology format. Why spin this off as a separate series?

3) As a streaming show an episode can last 15 minutes or two and a half hours, why break up the first story into two parts, I don’t get that formatting, was it suppose to add something to it?
