Good (premium) facial moisturizer?

I know, there are many threads about skincare, but search function is crap. What are some premium facial moisturizers (not drugstore brands) that are worth the money?

by Anonymousreply 75January 15, 2023 11:38 PM

The premium brands have so much packaging. It's so wasteful.

by Anonymousreply 1July 7, 2021 10:13 PM

Added value to compensate for inflated prices?

by Anonymousreply 2July 7, 2021 10:42 PM

I’m curious about this too. I found this online—any fans of these products?

I have finally found my fave!

[ comfort zone ] Hydramemory cream gel. 24hr double hydration cream gel.

It’s made in Italy and is available in the US. It comes in a glass jar. It’s made with quality, effective, ingredients. The fragrance took me a minute to get used to but I love it and how soothing and moisturizing it is. It doesn’t clog pores, which is crucial to me. I also love other [ comfort zone ] Hydramemory products like the serum and the eye gel. I highly recommend it.

by Anonymousreply 4February 19, 2022 4:16 PM

La Mer

by Anonymousreply 5February 19, 2022 4:21 PM

Hot jizz

by Anonymousreply 6February 19, 2022 4:22 PM

Someone recommended Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream.

by Anonymousreply 7February 19, 2022 4:29 PM

Hi like old lady smelling La Prairie Skin Caviar Creme.

Augustinus Bader should be ashamed of their wasteful packaging. I have that moisturizer and it was the most melodramatic packaging I have ever seen.

And no joke, that MDNA moisturizer- the $65.00 one is actually very good. (Not the 250+ one)

by Anonymousreply 8February 19, 2022 4:31 PM

R3- SkinMedica stuff is awesome.

by Anonymousreply 9February 19, 2022 4:32 PM

Biossance and Algenist are v good. I've always used Erno Laszlo, to the extent I can afford it.

by Anonymousreply 10February 19, 2022 4:33 PM

Beauty Pie does outstanding knockoffs of higher end skin care for much less, because they don’t do traditional advertising. Having said that, I’m on a Saint Jane kick. Stupid expensive, but I really see a difference using their C serum and their luxury serum.

by Anonymousreply 11February 19, 2022 4:50 PM

Weleda skin food care. I don't know whether it is sold in the U. S.

by Anonymousreply 12February 19, 2022 6:57 PM

Aunt Martha has a wonderful line of Old-Fashioned Facial Dressings.

by Anonymousreply 13February 19, 2022 7:09 PM

SkinCeuticals Serum 20, Phyto + and Hyaluronic Acid.

by Anonymousreply 14February 19, 2022 7:17 PM

Crisco

by Anonymousreply 15February 19, 2022 7:17 PM

I'm currently using Biossance and like it, and I have used the previously mentioned Weleda. Though with the latter you'll have to get used to the scent.

by Anonymousreply 16February 19, 2022 7:21 PM

Yes- Its very citrusy- ^^

by Anonymousreply 17February 19, 2022 7:23 PM

I’ve found all the NIOD range by Deciem to be incredible. In particular, Copper Amino Isolate serum, multi-molecular hyaluronic complex, ethylated ascorbic acid and hydration vaccine as moisturiser. Hydration vaccine is quite heavy and I swap it for a cheap ‘Simple’ brand moisturiser in summer. I even put the copper amino serum on a cut (like a cat scratch) and it heals faster.

by Anonymousreply 18February 19, 2022 7:25 PM

NIOD is awesome

by Anonymousreply 19February 19, 2022 7:26 PM

Weleda Skin Food is extremely heavy and thick—almost paste-like (it's intended as a body moisturizer). The Skin Food Light version is a better choice as a face cream.

by Anonymousreply 20February 19, 2022 7:31 PM

Aldi makes a well-regarded La Prairie knockoff. The catch is it's not sold in the US and eBay resellers mark it up at three to four times the retail price (about $7 US).

by Anonymousreply 22February 19, 2022 7:40 PM

There is nothing beneficial about luxury skincare. Go with what dermatologists recommend: Vanicream, Cetaphil and Cerave. Expensive moisturizers are just marketing and irritating fragrances

by Anonymousreply 23February 19, 2022 7:41 PM

Ultimately R23 is right.

However any good derm will tell you to use Retin A and SPF 50- every day- rain or shine.

Cerave and Cetaphil are great with those 2.

by Anonymousreply 24February 19, 2022 7:45 PM

Jizzacil, hot teen edition

by Anonymousreply 25February 19, 2022 7:52 PM

Creme de Mens

by Anonymousreply 26February 19, 2022 7:58 PM

Do you gurls have a special makeup chair and mirror that you use to apply these ointments to their best effect?

by Anonymousreply 27February 19, 2022 8:08 PM

Vanicream, Cetaphil and Cerave are the big brands to look for if you don't have a lot of money to spend and dont want to experiment. You can get huge tubs at Costco.

The MDNA Reinvention cream (which I am pretty sure has been slashed in price) is great. They clearly knew the market was partially gay men and used a citrus instead of a floral scent. Weird that they stopped selling the serum which is also great but overpriced.

by Anonymousreply 28February 19, 2022 8:26 PM

Anything you won't be allergic to is good, something like Clinique and Estee Lauder will do. You don't need to pay $1000 for stuff, La Mer or Guerlain, that won't get through your skin anyway.

But drink lotsa water, sleep 10 hours, no smoking, no alcohol, and avoid too much sunlight (more than 10 minutes a day).

by Anonymousreply 29February 19, 2022 8:30 PM

R27, NO. I am not Nicholas Fairford. But I like trying to take care of myself. This shit is just in the medicine cabinet.

Ha! R28- THATS the creme. (Reinvention) Unfortunately it comes in a jar shaped like a heart and looks really girly. And it smells like roses. Not citrus.

by Anonymousreply 30February 19, 2022 8:31 PM

R23 And sunblock.

My sister has had sensitive and sunburn prone skin her entire life, so she was militant about using sunblock even as a child and now has amazing skin.

by Anonymousreply 31February 19, 2022 8:41 PM

Don't get anything in a jar or bottle that doesn't have a pump. Otherwise, choose a tube. More sanitary.

Apply it after washing when your skin is moist.

Look for sunscreen unless you apply a sunscreen separately.

by Anonymousreply 32February 19, 2022 8:44 PM

Believe or not St. Ives moisturizer, in the big jar, is amazing. Cheap too, it's around $6.99.

by Anonymousreply 33February 19, 2022 8:48 PM

R32 is right. That's why LaPraire and La Mer are such rip offs. This jar shit is garbage.

I did La Prairie Caviar "Filler" for that reason- it has a pump.

Stick with Retin A and Sunscreen and use a cheap moisturizer during the day. And maybe a good skin oil.

by Anonymousreply 34February 19, 2022 8:57 PM

Dermasil is cheap as dirt but awfully good stuff. The Dollar Tree and such sells it.

There was a severe power outage earlier this month over where I live. It was brought about by an ice storm but it's the south and all so it was never just positively ghastly out, just ice cold for all of two and a half days. A friend of mine who had power let me stay with them for a bit but I had to pack a bag in the dark and mistook my hair conditioner for my lotion and so on. It was a mess.

Long ass story short I wound up going to a Dollar Tree for lotion and such. That friggin Dermasil worked great on my winter skin. It worked wonderfully. No lie.

I'm a Lesbian and am originally from Colombia. My late mother taught me to always wear sunscreen and moisturize so I kinda felt unclean without lotion. I'm working my way through this Dermasil and put my good stuff aside.

by Anonymousreply 35February 19, 2022 9:33 PM

R35- Look up Tata Harper, I lover her stuff and she is Columbian. She has said a few times that she doesn't wear sunscreen. I am a 43 year old Irish/Italian guy with FRECKLES I have to wear sunscreen every day.

If you are Columbian (beautiful skin) AND WORE SUNSCREEN YOUR WHOLE LIFE? You must be stunning XOXOXOXO-

by Anonymousreply 36February 19, 2022 9:41 PM

Skinceutical

by Anonymousreply 37February 19, 2022 9:43 PM

R13 like Aunt Vagina’s Old Fashioned Anal Dressing?

by Anonymousreply 38February 19, 2022 9:58 PM

R35 that shit isn’t good or premium.

by Anonymousreply 39February 19, 2022 9:58 PM

LaPrairie?! Lmao!

by Anonymousreply 40February 19, 2022 9:59 PM

[ comfort zone ] Hydramemory cream gel!!

Buy some for your face! It isn’t filled with a bunch of silicones, anti-aging chemicals or harsh shit!

by Anonymousreply 41February 19, 2022 10:01 PM

R40- It smells like my grandma and its pretty. Eat me , bitch!

by Anonymousreply 42February 19, 2022 10:03 PM

R42 why not just rub a big glob of dollar store brand petroleum jelly on your mug?

by Anonymousreply 43February 19, 2022 10:05 PM

R43- Because that reminds me of being poor and PRESSED. And my gram doesn't smell like petroleum jelly!

I will use that shit when I lose my job.

I am have been poor, rich , and in between and can always go to a trailer park (and be quite happy) and stick Noxema on my old face!

Right now, I can handle the La Prairie. So why not!

by Anonymousreply 44February 19, 2022 10:14 PM

R44 pffffffft!

by Anonymousreply 45February 19, 2022 10:25 PM

You know you want this R45. All smooth facial skin (Lotsa body hair) and old lady smelling!

by Anonymousreply 46February 19, 2022 10:29 PM

If you do like a citrus scent I can recommend Origins GinZing. Moisturizes with the best of them and really does seem to "wake up" your skin.

by Anonymousreply 47February 19, 2022 10:31 PM

I like Ginzing but also Origins mushroom line. In the gray tubes

by Anonymousreply 48February 19, 2022 10:33 PM

Kiehl’s Facial Fuel.

by Anonymousreply 49February 19, 2022 10:40 PM

R23 nails it.

"Luxury" moisturuzers don't moisturize your skin any better than something like CeraVe will.

But a fool and his money...

by Anonymousreply 50February 19, 2022 10:49 PM

R6, I remember a hook up where when I got close the guy was like: "cum on my face!" so I did and he rubbed it into his skin and told me how good it was for skin.

by Anonymousreply 51February 19, 2022 11:15 PM

I prefer to get my skincare from doctors, not luxury brands. Murad Nutrient-Charged Water Gel. If you know, you know.

by Anonymousreply 52February 19, 2022 11:22 PM

[quote]Weleda skin food care. I don't know whether it is sold in the U. S.

Great suggestion. I live in Hawaii and bought a tube of Weleda skin food last week at a local natural foods grocery store.

by Anonymousreply 53February 19, 2022 11:22 PM

R53 it sucks but smells good.

by Anonymousreply 54February 19, 2022 11:32 PM

r53. As mentioned above. Take the light edition.

by Anonymousreply 55February 20, 2022 10:55 AM

Kheils.

by Anonymousreply 56February 20, 2022 11:02 AM

I love Aesop products. They have this “fabulous face oil” which hydrates very well, has a lovely scent, and does not leave any shiny residue on the face. I also use their mandarin moisturising cream at night. Lovely scent. Yeah maybe at the end of the day those luxury brands are no better than your basic supermarket brand. And so what? If you can afford it, why not? It’s also about the lovely packaging, the silky texture, the wonderful scent, etc.

by Anonymousreply 57February 20, 2022 11:30 AM

Crème de la Mer, for years. It's expensive but a jar lasts forever.

by Anonymousreply 58February 20, 2022 11:43 AM

My dermatologist thought I should save my money, and recommended Cera Ve, both face and for just under the eyes. He said it's a good brand, and why spend money for others. That being said, though, I'm intrigued by many of the posts on this thread. Also, on my social media feeds, I'm seeing ads for Disco and Particle. Anybody use those? Thoughts? It MIGHT be true that those brands appeal because they hired attractive actors, so there's that piece of information.

by Anonymousreply 59February 20, 2022 12:41 PM

R57- I love that Aesop Fabulous Face Oil. It smells like cedar/wood. It's awesome.

by Anonymousreply 60February 20, 2022 2:26 PM

I’ve tried several Aesop products and have never been impressed enough with them to be a repeat buyer.

by Anonymousreply 61February 20, 2022 2:48 PM

I’m not typically a face oil person because even though some face oils are not supposed to clog pores, I’m somehow unconvinced. I do though swear by Josie Maran’s 100% argan oil (body) and 100% argan oil light for my face.

by Anonymousreply 62February 20, 2022 2:51 PM

Clinique Dramatically Different moisturizer and of course, Retin A.

First, you need to deal with any skin problems by using Retin A. Then, comes the moisturizer!

by Anonymousreply 63February 20, 2022 2:55 PM

Will ceraVe moisturizing cream (big 19oz tub with pump on top. Only ~$15 at costco) work for my oily skin... In the humid summertime? The label advertises it as "for normal to dry skin".

Maybe it's too thick a cream for my oily face, or maybe I can use much less product and that big tub will last me years!

by Anonymousreply 64February 20, 2022 3:03 PM

R64 I wouldn’t use it on my face. Too heavy.

by Anonymousreply 65February 20, 2022 3:17 PM

What is the best OTC Retin A? I realize it’s not the same as a script, but I’m just curious if there is a strong OTC….

by Anonymousreply 66February 20, 2022 3:31 PM

[...]

by Anonymousreply 67February 20, 2022 3:35 PM

R67 Isn't Differin OTC Retin A?

by Anonymousreply 68February 20, 2022 3:40 PM

Retinol is what’s available OTC. it’s usually weaker than some prescription level retinA or stronger prescription 0.3% adapalene which is Differing. The OTC Differin is 0.1%.(

by Anonymousreply 69February 20, 2022 4:38 PM

These are my personal recommendations for good facial moisturizers.. These will not clog pores.

Clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel.

Clinique dramatically different moisturizing jelly

Clinique moisture surge

Kiehl’s ultra moisturizing cream

Kiehl’s ultra moisturizing gel

Kiehl’s Facial Fuel for men

Bioeffect moisturizing cream

[ comfort zone ] Hydramemory cream gel

by Anonymousreply 70February 20, 2022 4:45 PM

R28 With MDNA skincare you’re just paying for the name. Also there are fragrances in it. Again, there is literally no reason to spend tons of money on moisturizer regardless of how much you make

by Anonymousreply 71February 20, 2022 5:25 PM

[quote]Do you gurls have a special makeup chair and mirror that you use to apply these ointments to their best effect?

With a big dildo attached to my makeup chair... Honey, if I'm going be setting for a long spell, I'm gonna be pleasurin' my vag!

by Anonymousreply 72February 20, 2022 6:27 PM

I use drugstore stuff, but I have used & liked Origins "A Perfect World" serum. I think it was the "white tea" serum.

by Anonymousreply 73February 20, 2022 7:38 PM

Re OTC Retin A, find the highest concentration which is likely much lower than the script percentages, not sure who makes it. L'Oreal?

I have a script. One of my close friends is a derma, she's great. I'm currently using a very low percentage now.

by Anonymousreply 74February 20, 2022 8:25 PM

I love love love [comfortzone] Hydramemory gel-cream moisturizer.
