How the fuck is Maroon 5 still a thing?!
Does anyone else feel like the group led by Adam Brody in Jennifer’s Body is based on Maroon 5? That’s the only explanation I can come up with for them still being relevant and a thing past the year 2010.
They had their modest hits with their first album and then with album 2 they suddenly have a number 1, with the other singles performing just decent. Then comes their 3rd and 4th album where they have more and more hits. And so on.
Most groups that came around the same time as them are no longer heard from, yet they’re still fixtures on radio. Strange.
Granted they did sell out their art and sound for more mainstream pop.

The bigger question is how is Adam Levine considered a sex symbol?

I know who that person is, but could not name a song. I assume I've heard one at a convenience store or something. I'm not sure I'd distinguish between this band and Coldplay if not for Fish Sticks.

Weird you posted this, because me and friends spoke about this exact topic recently at brunch when one of their songs came on in the restaurant.
Almost every band from the 00s who had hits are obscure now, but these talentless hacks are still producing hits. Meanwhile I don’t know a single person who really listens to them anymore, but they’re always on the radio or selling out tours. It’s the weirdest shit. How did they manage to stay around for almost 20 years and still be making hits?
Their last album is pure electronic pop. They truly sold out. Listen to their first 2 albums and then listen to their 2 most recent.

I don't know. I really loved "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" and a track from the 3rd album (the name escapes me). Then they started with all this guest rapper bullshit and now I can't be bothered.

I don’t like most of their recent stuff but liked “Sugar” and “Maps” a lot.

Adam Levine looks really hot for 43 and has a nice, thick, cut cock. He's not Ryan Phillipe level, but he looks good, fit, and young. I would let him fuck me all day long.

Meh. He does nothing for me at all. I don’t get it.
They released an album last month that no one knows about.

How many songwriters have been involved in their hit songs?

Adam claims they write it all

Their fine. It's basic pop. Absolutely TERRIBLE Super Bowl performance, like shockingly bad. Still, I live Adam Levine and the old school Maroon 5 takes me to a happier time and place.

They must be a band in name only at this point. I can’t imagine anyone except Adam Levine is allowed near a studio.

Lots of bands turn to tours when the hits dry up.

He got on that show and radio gave them new life with the worst of the worst songs.

Yeah they had moderate hits until The Voice and then Moves Like Jagger went massive.

The hit based on the Pachelbel canon is a pity

Obviously they are lizard people. Only logical explanation.

That show boosted its 3 male non A Listers careers, it wasn’t gonna do anything for someone who had massive hits like Xtina.
Most people didn’t know Blake, Adam or Ceelo before The Voice. They all had massive hits after doing The show.

Move Like Jagger always puts me in a good mood and they had a lot of good singles off their first album in the early aughts. They don't evoke a really strong response.

They always seemed to me like a cheap Jamiroquai rip-off. However, I kinda like Makes Me Wonder. It's a groovy song.

The new album is gr8. He’s too tatted. If you ever see him shirtless and wearing shorts, it’s insane how tatted he is!

DLers would have ZERO idea who Maroon 5 was if Levine had not posed nude for Rolling Stone.

I really enjoyed their first album, but everything since has just been not to my taste. It really made the best of Levine's kind of annoying voice.

Their hits are almost totally radio-driven. Their record label gives out massive payola to radio stations to play their music non-stop. Since radio makes up a big chunk of the Hot 100 chart, it gives them "hits."

Yeah they're totally manufactured successes, cogs in a business machine, no soul, just droning noise that people shut their brains off to

About 10 years ago I asked the exact same thing! A while back someone said that you never hear anyone say "I love Maroon 5!" or "I just went to a Maroon 5 concert" and I realized that was 100% true, and I have yet to hear anyone say they like Maroon 5, but they continue to have hits. Who is their fanbase? It's maddening.
