If anyone is going to be pissed it’s Cynthia Erivo.

JHud can’t act. I love her voice-it’s a freak of nature, but she should not be winning any acting awards. She was fine in most of Dreamgirls because she was mostly interpreting songs - but some of her non-singing scenes were cringey (like when she was hobbling up the stairs saying she was old. I cringe at that scene every time).

G wouldn't be the only one who would be mad.

Jennifer Hudson is a terrible actress and didn't deserve the first Oscar she got.

I'm the racist DL queens who will complain about how "undeserving" she is. The same people who used to bitch and moan about how Carey Mulligan was overrated.....then as soon as she was competing for an Oscar with Viola Davis they had to start pretending that she was a genius and that Viola was going to be an undeserving "diversity" pick. Then they wound up looking stupid when Viola lost, too

Is this post assuming that people get acting awards for political reasons rather than for skill or talent?

I would also add, she's not that brilliant of a singer or interpreter of songs.

Watch J-Ho do it (I'm Telling You...) then watch J-Hud's flat interpretation.

Jennifer Holliday gives a gorgeous operatic performance and J-Hud looks like a dim witted child attempting to do the same...but, failing.

J-Hud was very, very, very lucky to have been in the right place at the right time to get that role.

Ms Hudson could have a dozen Oscars and she still wouldn’t be in the same league as Glenn Close. The failure to award G an Oscar while handing them out to Paltrow, Portman, Hudson and Helen Hunt reflects more badly on the Academy than on Glenn Close.

Totally disagree about J-Ho. Her interpretation was so over the top and the vocal tricks were so awkward, it’s barely watchable even though it was a sensation back in the day. I agree that JHud isn’t a great interpreter of song, but she’s adequate. I think her voice is freakishly good, but it’s grating after a while.
