Helen Reddy at the 1977 AMA Awards

Simply beautiful and so wonderfully 70s. I’m still sad about her passing.

Thoughts on the set design?

r1, I love that song. I think she was a very intelligent woman and she had balls to come to the US with a 3 year old and $300 to her name.

She walked so Tina Turner could leap out of a limousine with 76 cents and a gasoline credit card.

OP here…love this too.

Anne Murray’s Muppet appearance was as if she had her feet glued to the floor.

Is this a new Helen Reddy appreciation thread? If so, I'm adding her Pete's Dragon performance of Candle On the Water, which was my first exposure to her when I was a kid.

That song has always been a favorite of mine.

I met Helen Reddy. She was the star attraction at a Delaware hospital benefit that I was organizing. She was gorgeous in a sleek yellow gown. Her contract required her to attend the after concert reception for an hour. She stayed for 15 minutes. SHE WAS NOT NICE.

by Anonymousreply 7July 5, 2021 2:07 AM

I read Helen Reddy's memoir and really enjoyed it and have all her hit singles. I miss her too!

by Anonymousreply 8July 5, 2021 2:18 AM

I’ve also enjoyed her voice. Just relating our meeting. She was not nice. As a hospital benefit was beneath her. Honey, if you’re career was going gangbusters you wouldn’t be doing Hospital benefits. I stand by opinion that she rude and condescending .

by Anonymousreply 9July 5, 2021 2:37 AM

R9 I heard she was a handful. May I ask about what year this happened? She and that husband of hers were very litigious.

by Anonymousreply 10July 5, 2021 2:46 AM

Oh God, it was the early 1990’s. Yes I’m old. As I said her performance was terrific. Her personal interaction not so much.

by Anonymousreply 11July 5, 2021 2:56 AM

Since this is a gossip site, it was rumored that she was sleeping with her drummer at the time. He was a hunk.

by Anonymousreply 12July 5, 2021 2:59 AM

Oh God, poor thing. Her dead eyes and that face at the very end…

He wouldn't be the only one breaking up that marriage:

Are those fallopian tubes an homage to her "I Am Woman" success?

by Anonymousreply 15August 8, 2021 1:13 AM

It's pointing out the difference between who am and who ain't.

She was one of those entertainers who seemed to be everywhere for a number of years and then just vanished overnight.

The Bonnie Franklin of the Music Business.

by Anonymousreply 17August 8, 2021 1:18 AM

Bonnie never could have pulled off [italic]Pete's Dragon[/italic], and even if they bought her as an Italian-American, they never would have bought her as a nun.

by Anonymousreply 18August 8, 2021 1:23 AM

I just meant Bonnie in the sense that she was a huge celebrity for a number of years, and then just disappeared quickly.

by Anonymousreply 19August 8, 2021 1:25 AM

Bonnie wasn't married to her manager.

by Anonymousreply 20August 8, 2021 1:28 AM

I would have spent the entire movie confusing Bonnie with Sean Marshall, they could be sisters.

by Anonymousreply 21August 8, 2021 2:11 AM

And she wouldn't have been able to say "Dammit Pete, Dammit Lampie," because Disney didn't allow four-letter words for another two years. Actually, I'm wrong about that. Another dragon said "Hell" in [italic]Sleeping Beauty[/italic]: Maleficent.

by Anonymousreply 22August 8, 2021 2:14 AM

Awww, I miss Helen Reddy.

People complained about pop music in the 1970s, but look what has taken its place 50 years later.

by Anonymousreply 24August 8, 2021 2:20 AM

Shut up, OP. Your beautiful music and stunningly beautiful film threads are nothing more than a segue to trolling. And they are fucking boring.

by Anonymousreply 25August 8, 2021 2:35 AM

Then maybe his next one should be about Florence Henderson.

by Anonymousreply 26August 8, 2021 2:36 AM

R25 good Lord….tight shoes make people say anything

by Anonymousreply 27August 8, 2021 2:56 AM

And if you would loosen your sphincter you would score more cock, R27.

by Anonymousreply 28August 8, 2021 2:57 AM

Speaking of trolls….shuffle off …

by Anonymousreply 29August 8, 2021 2:59 AM

Disney would have never agreed to Bonnie Franklin's top demand: that the character of Nora in Pete's Dragon go braless.

by Anonymousreply 30August 8, 2021 3:01 AM

[quote] Disney would have never agreed to Bonnie Franklin's top demand: that the character of Nora in Pete's Dragon go braless.

That would have also knocked her out of the running for [italic]Bedknobs and Broomsticks[/italic].

I miss Helen Reddy. I bought all her hit singles years ago when I was growing up. She has a very special place in my heart with fond memories. I bought her memoir and I really enjoyed it even though she was very cryptic about her husbands and a few other people. She didn't mention David Geffen by name but it was easy to figure out - she mentioned that he was gay years ago, not in a malicious manner, and he was furious with her. She eventually escaped his wrath.
