New York Times Releases New Video Documenting January 6th

How can anyone watch this 40 minutes and not be enraged?

by Anonymousreply 323August 4, 2021 12:58 AM

Looks like good watching thanks OP.

by Anonymousreply 1July 1, 2021 1:09 AM

America really does have an endless supply of angry, potato-faced middle aged white guys who have a great deal to "play army men" and indulge these bizarre impulses.

The fucked up thing is that they're not poor as they have endless funds for militia gear, a hundred guns, shields, tactical gear, plane tickets, logo t-shirts and hoodies. I imagine the average insurrectionist makes $100,000 a year!

by Anonymousreply 2July 1, 2021 1:15 AM

1.07 into the documentary. There's that wooden platform and scaffold with a noose hanging from it. Lucky they didn't catch Pence or Pelosi.

I 100% believe the mob would have killed both of them if they had been able to find them.

Sickening

by Anonymousreply 6July 1, 2021 1:45 AM

Watched it this afternoon. It's chilling. This was an armed rebellion against the United States. One of the most disturbing moments was the participation of an active-duty, Marine Corps officer, Major Christopher Warnagiris. He should be courtmartialed for treason. Also beyond the pale was the Republican representative who dismissed this violent insurrection as nothing, after watching him blockading the doors of the House against these rebels. Unconscionable.

After watching that video -- which every American should see -- I cannot ever again support Republicans. Adam Kinzinger and Lynne Cheney are the only elected ones who have a shred of character and decency...flawed as they are.

by Anonymousreply 7July 1, 2021 1:46 AM

The cops just should've opened fire and done society a favor.

by Anonymousreply 8July 1, 2021 2:01 AM

Damn tourists.

by Anonymousreply 9July 1, 2021 2:14 AM

I still can’t believe this actually happened.

by Anonymousreply 10July 1, 2021 2:24 AM

I want to watch but I’m trying to avoid media that triggers anxiety, rage and hopeless.

But it seems important to face.

by Anonymousreply 11July 1, 2021 2:40 AM

Well done. HOWEVER.... the narrator never blames ANY police for tacitly allowing the siege to happen. I hear more gunfire every single night in my suburban neighborhood than discharged during the ENTIRE siege. The fact that the cops didn't use their guns makes NO SENSE....

by Anonymousreply 12July 1, 2021 3:14 AM

Definitely watch it R11. It's important to know the cold hard facts about such an important event in our history. Detach from the emotional. It's 40.23 in length.

by Anonymousreply 13July 1, 2021 3:17 AM

I want Boebart, Gosar, Brooks, etc tried for treason and given a traitor's sentence.

by Anonymousreply 14July 1, 2021 3:31 AM

I enraged by all riots, not just this one.

by Anonymousreply 15July 1, 2021 3:33 AM

Yeah, the number of semi-interested foot-dragging cops really didn't help much that day, did they? Why didn't they have semi-automatic weapons and just start mowing these criminals down to regain order? After blowing some heads off I think the afternoon would have gone smoother. They'd rather whine about Nancy Pelosi and libruls while allowing the GOP Senators to shut down a full investigation. They make me sick!

As I've said before it would actually have been better if twenty cops were killed on January 6th. Maybe they'd remember who to whine about, and then there'd be fewer criminal cops to kill civilians on the street. A real win/win!

by Anonymousreply 16July 1, 2021 3:39 AM

[quote]The fact that the cops didn't use their guns makes NO SENSE....

Because they saw themselves in those assholes and that includes Sicknick who voted for Trump. Most cops have the same mentality as those terrorists and so they could see them as "human." Make them brown or black and they wouldn't hesitate to draw their weapons.

by Anonymousreply 17July 1, 2021 3:39 AM

I don’t want to watch it…….I’ve seen quite enough already………I just want our government to do something about it.

by Anonymousreply 18July 1, 2021 4:16 AM

I don't understand the resolute "head in the sand" response and attitudes here. "I won't look in that direction and therefore it won't exist..."

How do you know what you want the government to do R18? Do something about what exactly? You are not properly informed. These people are not going anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 19July 1, 2021 4:36 AM

This was actually the most appalling day of my life as an American. I would like to know specifically which individuals refused backup for the sparse police force. These traitors showed a blatant disregard for the lives of the police officers who had the horrific task of defending the Capitol against a mob. Some of them died. They had to know what the result of their negligence would be. It was obvious what would happen. They must be held accountable for the deaths they caused.

by Anonymousreply 20July 1, 2021 4:42 AM

R19, I'm another person who doesn't want to watch it. I'm angry enough that so many got away with their roles in inciting it.

I don't know what R18 wants done, but I know what I want done: Prison for every single person who participated, incl. MoC. If it turns out that certain members did in fact gives "tours" to the terrorists...oh, excuse me, "tourists," I want life imprisonment for those members, because I won't get what I really want: A firing squad.

by Anonymousreply 21July 1, 2021 4:42 AM

give* tours

by Anonymousreply 22July 1, 2021 4:46 AM

R19

No head in the sand ..,what more do I need to see to realize how fucked up the Jan 6 Capital riot was? what ….watch it over and over only this time in more detail? It’s fucked up….I want the government to arrest ever one of those fuckers and aggressively go after right wing extremists..don’t show me more videos and tell me more of what I already know………….just do something about it this time…..so there won’t be a next time…

by Anonymousreply 23July 1, 2021 6:13 AM

These nutcase groups like Proud Boys and all the rest need to be fucking smashed into oblivion.

by Anonymousreply 24July 1, 2021 6:33 AM

Do any of those “patriots” have a mental age older than 12? With their idiotic shouts of “this is OUR house”, whining “I want my country back” or threatening “that bitch Nancy” like a pack of schoolyard bullies that’s what they seem like. They are like spoiled children throwing a tantrum because they didn’t get their way or they’re playing soldiers like they’re in some some video game. These people are not adults. They’ve never grown up. Only this is real life and they need to be punished as severely as possible.

by Anonymousreply 25July 1, 2021 6:40 AM

What are they so angry about? Who took their country from them? None of them are starving and destitute. I am perplexed as to what they think was taken from them and what they think they're owed.

by Anonymousreply 26July 1, 2021 7:07 AM

This is precisely why it's one thing to critique "woke" culture, it's an entirely different level of idiocy to claim the "both sides" crap or in any way be more critical of the left when you witness THIS.

The left has never literally attempted to overthrow the fucking country. My God, how do you have the nerve to act as though the right isn't the biggest threat? You have to be a god damned racist and/or bigot to pull that shit. You have no other excuse. I mean am I supposed to believe your greatest concern is the Koch bros getting a tax cut, since the GOP has no damned policies beyond kissing Trump's flabby orange, prejudiced ass

by Anonymousreply 27July 1, 2021 7:34 AM

27 posts so far and not one mention of the fucking Orange Nazi who instigated all of this:

DONALD JOHN TRUMP

He needs to be tried and convicted for treason since the evidence was recorded for the entire world to see.

by Anonymousreply 28July 1, 2021 7:45 AM

#3 is correct. Everyone is focusing on what DIDN'T happen. Just because the losers failed at assassination doesn't mean they were "just tourists taking selfies".

by Anonymousreply 29July 1, 2021 8:21 AM

What do they want?

They want their country BACK - in the 20th Century.

Social change frightens them to death.

They want the country they thought they had: when men marrying men was impossible; where those who considered it died of AIDS.

They want back that country where no woman would seriously dream of running for high office; and where if one did, would be stricken down by a strong male WASP.

They want a country where a Black man didn’t sit in a White House. They wanted a return to a time when advertisers dare not show interracial happy families for fear of offending those who had money.

They had finally begun to rid their country of that nightmare. They replaced the aberrant President with an exaggerated return of the remembered country. A country where token minorities served in token roles. Where women did what men wanted done. Where the social order was restored.

And then, just as they were relaxing into the remembered country’s return, their leader was overthrown by the Black Man’s partner.

by Anonymousreply 30July 1, 2021 8:30 AM

As Cory Ryan Forrester said in his rant on YouTube the day after Jan 6th...' Patriots' saying "we want to take our country back'...from what? 'What has anyone done to you, you entitled pieces of shit'. R30...yes all your points are very valid.

by Anonymousreply 31July 1, 2021 10:00 AM

[quote]The fact that the cops didn't use their guns makes NO SENSE

It has been explained multiple times that they didn't shoot at the rioters because they knew the rioters were armed and a bloodbath would ensue.

This is such a simple, basic, easy concept to understand. If the police had started shooting into the crowd, there would have been mass casualties on all sides.

And the end result would be that the insurrectionists would have been seen as VICTIMS. It would have been a huge win for those who organized the coup, and in fact I would bet ANYTHING they were expecting more people to be shot by the police, so they could milk it for sympathy and victimhood talking points.

by Anonymousreply 32July 1, 2021 11:09 AM

[quote]the narrator never blames ANY police for tacitly allowing the siege to happen. I hear more gunfire every single night in my suburban neighborhood than discharged during the ENTIRE siege. The fact that the cops didn't use their guns makes NO SENSE....

I read an interview with some CP officers & they knew that the rioters had guns; they were afraid if the started shooting, the rioters would see it as an invitation to start shooting as well & it would turn into a bloodbath.

I wonder what ever happened to the CP officer videoed taking selfies with the rioters.

by Anonymousreply 33July 1, 2021 11:18 AM

[quote]They want a country where a Black man didn’t sit in a White House.

That's really when this current wave of far-right domestic terrorism started. The 2008 election had a lot of interference from online trolls, like those "PUMAs" who were pretending to be Democrats angry at the "sexism" behind Hillary Clinton not getting the nomination. They encouraged women to vote McCain instead since Palin was on the ticket. It worked really well for about two months and then lost most of its influence, though the PUMAs continued to try to convince people to vote against Democrats.

But it was a pretty good trial run for online trolling influence campaigns, and the Tea Party that sprang up after Obama was elected did a better job than the PUMAs. Let's not forget the Republicans were trying to cheat in 2012 as well, when Rove went psycho on live TV when Obama won states he wasn't "supposed to."

By 2016 they had perfected the online trolling influence campaigns and the cheating, and had help from foreign influences. It's no wonder that by 2020, it had all escalated to the point that it lead to an actual coup attempt.

If social media doesn't cut off the head of this foreign-and-Republican propaganda beast, we'll have more events like January 6th.

by Anonymousreply 34July 1, 2021 11:21 AM

It seems like the more "new" footage I watch, the larger the crowd gets. They could've filled a goddamn football stadium.

by Anonymousreply 35July 1, 2021 11:49 AM

R33, I don't doubt an after-the-insurrection explanation came forward — that the Captiol Police didn't want to shoot for fear of a bloodbath. But that doesn't make a lick of sense. Cops — every single day of their life — are trained to use their guns that are strapped to their waists. De-escalation is NOT a typical police-force reaction. Just ask Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger... Not shooting — even warning shots — doesn't make ANY sense.

by Anonymousreply 36July 1, 2021 12:15 PM

There were multiple articles saying that they were told beforehand to not shoot. I know that at least one of the Capital Police who came forward and talked to the press about how they were let down by their commanders mentioned it.

They weren't shot at, therefore not shooting makes perfect sense.

by Anonymousreply 37July 1, 2021 12:22 PM

[quote] Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, who has spoken of the racial slurs he endured while defending the Capitol, told Forbes it’s “good” the committee was approved but he “didn’t think it would be that close.”

[quote] The committee was approved 222-190, with all House Republicans except Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) and Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) voting against it.

[quote] “I mean, I’m angry,” D.C. Police Officer Michael Fanone, who was injured in the attack, told Forbes of the number of GOP “no” votes, adding that he was “shocked but not surprised.”

[quote] Fanone said he was present in the chamber for the debate preceding the vote only for “what I could stomach,” calling Republican arguments against the committee “the same old song.”

[quote] Gladys Sicknick, the mother of Brian Sicknick, a Capitol police officer who died following the attack, said she “couldn’t believe” how many Republicans voted no, adding, “I just don’t believe anybody could vote no, it doesn’t make sense.”

[quote] “I try not to take these things personally, but it’s very personal for me. I almost lost my life that day. I watched a lot of my friends almost lose their lives,” Fanon told Forbes of his reaction to the vote.

[quote] Republicans argued that the membership breakdown of the committee – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appoints all 13 members, with only five in consultation with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy – made the probe “partisan.” Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-Minn.), who previously voted against an independent commission that was blocked by Senate Republicans, claimed, "Democrats refuse to put together a truly bipartisan commission."

[quote] The officers were mostly visited in the chamber by House Democrats, as well as Cheney. Pelosi and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), who escorted the officers and Sicknick during their trip to the Capitol, both recounted how they remarked on the number of “no” votes.

The line that says the rioters felt “deputized” by “El Douche”Trump says if all. They felt like they were doing a patriotic duty and had a right to storm the Capitol after being told to at rally. Meanwhile, Trump, being the coward he is, he went home. Don Jt went home to enjoy another speedball.

Gonna Be Wild! 😑

by Anonymousreply 39July 1, 2021 12:30 PM

[quote]We were trained in what to do if gunmen tried to storm the Capitol, but we were not trained in what to do if hundreds of people, egged on by the president of the United States, decided to rush the building and disrupt certification of the votes of the electoral college, not with an armed assault — although some had weapons — but with numbers. Huge numbers.

[quote]...the reality is that every instinct of those police officers was to not shoot, and for a number of reasons. Left alone or in small groups because of leaders’ lack of preparation for this event, each of these officers had to ask themselves the most horrible of questions: What is happening behind me? When do I kill 16 of the 1,000 people in front of me with the ammunition I have in my Glock 22 because they are pushing past me? (You won’t be able to reload.) What is my point of no return?

We must be watching different reports. All I see in the Times multimedia report are some patriotic bedrock Amurican citizens exercising their right to enter the Capitol to add their passionate voice to democratic debate! Just another typical day in the Capitol. Not a single one had a gun. Some even dressed amusingly for the gay affair! Afterwards, they met for delicious cocktails at POTUS Trump's beautiful hotel. You're all just jelly. And making much to do about nothing.

by Anonymousreply 41July 1, 2021 12:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 47July 1, 2021 2:05 PM

Bombs were discovered at 1 p.m. on Jan. 6.

r57, what ever, good journalism isn't about this type of editorializing and sensational bullshit. the video is damning on its own

by Anonymousreply 54July 1, 2021 2:50 PM

Is it "editorializing" if the good journo raises the fact that our police were so damningly derelict in their duties? And how many arrests did police immediately make on Jan. 6? Less than 70!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 55July 1, 2021 3:08 PM

nope - it isn't editorializing. YET stating "the narrator never BLAMES any police" is making the journalist a judge and jury. that isn't their job. Pointing out how many (or how few) were arrested is completely different, unrelated in fact.

by Anonymousreply 56July 1, 2021 3:10 PM

The New York Times can just as easily produce a tape that names each officer — their public-servant identities. The New York Times does blame/blaspheme many of the rioters. "Unrelated in fact....?" Why are the cops "unrelated" to the rioters? Because they're cops?

by Anonymousreply 57July 1, 2021 3:19 PM

I think Trump meant this to be a final act of narcissistic rage against the United States for rejecting him. He's very, very lucky that no members of Congress were killed or physically harmed. If his followers weren't so brainwashed they'd see that the fact that he wasn't immediately locked up after participating in this atrocity (which he's much too dumb to have planned himself--I'm guessing it's Roger Stone's baby) is proof that there's no Deep State.

by Anonymousreply 58July 1, 2021 3:23 PM

So do we think Trump will run again in 2024? Biden would surely kick his ass.

[quote] Why are the cops "unrelated" to the rioters? Because they're cops?

you're creating a thread about yourself

compare and contrast two statements:

"the narrator never BLAMES any police"

"the police made 72 arrests"

unrelated, one is stating a tally of arrests, the other opining why blame isn't being given. and if you continue you're just talking to yourself as I've blocked you

by Anonymousreply 61July 1, 2021 3:34 PM

Derelict? What the hell? Clearly the cops were outnumbered and overwhelmed at the start of this thing. I'd have to watch it again with an eye to what the NYT narration said about each of the insurrectionists identified in the video as far as assigning blame or supplying motive unfairly. Those who were identified were caught on camera committing what are possibly criminal acts on camera (the jurstice system will decide).

by Anonymousreply 62July 1, 2021 3:35 PM

precisely, it isn't for the NYT to decide. and indeed, some cops just ceded the way, others fought valiantly and were wounded. They were frequently gassed and beaten - the buck stops with those who decided in advance not to fortify the Capitol

by Anonymousreply 63July 1, 2021 3:38 PM

The problem is, the people who need to see this don't read/watch the NYT.

by Anonymousreply 64July 1, 2021 3:41 PM

indeed

by Anonymousreply 65July 1, 2021 3:43 PM

I don't need to see anymore because my eyes were glued to the TV and the 'net on 1/6/21 and I saw it live.

It's repulsive that these traitors - including those who incited the insurrection, like Cruz, Hawley, Boehbert and, of course, Trump - continue to walk the Earth freely.

In many other countries, they would have been summarily executed by now.

by Anonymousreply 66July 1, 2021 5:01 PM

Gross and disgusting

Speaking of Sarah Palin, I knew when they dug up her and Todd's connections to that nutty Alaska secessionist party that white nationalists had entered the scene.

by Anonymousreply 68July 1, 2021 5:16 PM

And all it took was a very stupid, scummy, sleazy clown born on third with a bad tan/bad hair and who was in fact the actual "elitist," to simply be a loud n' proud racist and bigot for these mostly provincial dirtbags to crawl out from under their rocks...or do we still have enablers pretending that wasn't precisely the moment most Republican voters became Trump supporters? Are we still pretending it was something else? I don't recall hootin' and hollerin' over Trump talking about fixing infrastructure.

The media enabled all of this as did so-called moderate Dems, because there was a lack of empathy from all of them due to Trump's targets. Apparently, it was fine that he was referring to people as rapists, murderers and terrorists, because no one gave a shit about the people who were the targets of that constant vitriol whether at his rallies or tweeting.

Perhaps this is a bit tin hat, but did anyone watch the part about how long it took for Congress to evacuate, thinking that there were several in the crowd (including that cunt from AZ that was speaking) that fully *expected* the crowd to bust in stop the voting, which is why they stalled the evacuation for so long when the Senate had already headed to the basement?

by Anonymousreply 73July 1, 2021 10:52 PM

I've read a lot (probably too much) about this, R73, and I've come to something of an opposite conclusion. It seems to me that there weren't more injuries and why most of the people wandering around inside the Capitol look lost and confused is because that is exactly what they were. The video points out that there were trained military in their ranks who were looking to do some serious damage--or executions--but for the most part, the goal was just to create chaos. It really does seem like the majority thought they were going to encounter ANTIFA and have brawls in the streets.

Therein, the objective of Gosar (and Brooks, and maybe even Cruz) was just to stall the proceedings until the fighting in the streets and/or the bombs went off which then would give the White House an excuse to declare a State of Emergency. THAT was how they were planning to stop the certification. Breaking in was a secondary objective (which is why they had most of their weapons stockpiled in Virginia...for later...)

The big questions to me center around those two bombs: Why didn't they detonate? And, with all of the video and other information available, why haven't they found the individual(s) who planted them.

I think that is the going to be the key to this whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 74July 1, 2021 11:19 PM

I was shocked that the windows of the Capitol Building were just regular glass that could easily be broken. I would've thought they were bulletproof, military-grade or whatever you call those kind of windows.

by Anonymousreply 75July 1, 2021 11:22 PM

Why do you think that?

It’s very obvious they weren’t regular glass or they wouldn’t have needed a police shield to break it. And even then, it only broke from the pane and came out in one piece.

by Anonymousreply 76July 1, 2021 11:24 PM

That's interesting R74; you may well be right. I just thought it was an interesting coincide that Neo Nazi twat Gosar is droning on & on at the exact time all hell is breaking loose as if he *wants* to keep his colleagues around long enough to get their heads stomped in when the mob comes through the door. Surely all of them had phones & knew what was going on around them.

so far, you can guarantee that the cops were derelict in arresting [which would have meant "STOPPING" the rioters... ] more than 300 criminals at the scene of the crime. there's enough footage to show the cops failed = neglected/derelict = to perform their duties. if they did start arresting, what would have happened? the rioters would, in turn, have arrested the cops?

also, something else really really bothers me. even in the NYTimes video coverage, the times does not name the officer who shot Ashli Babbit. That's a homicide and definitely justified. However, the Times' footage everyone is watching does not even bring attention to the identity of the public servant who commuted the justified homicide. Uh... Why?

R73, i don’t think that is that far-fetched

by Anonymousreply 87July 2, 2021 12:23 PM

I wish 60 Minutes or one of the network news shows could get McCarthy or any one of the these idiot GOP senators to do an interview where they force them to watch some of this film and simply describe what they see.

by Anonymousreply 88July 2, 2021 12:35 PM

It's pointless to assign any kind of reason to this since no one (even her family) *really* gives a shit about Babbit - she's just their little MAGA Joan of Arc - but I don't see how the identity of the officer is even relevant. The footage shows congress evacuating; the mob tries to break down the door to get to them. The cops on the outside clearly have given up containing the mob. The officer standing between the mob & congress pulls a gun & probably issues some sort of warning, but Babbit pops through the broken window anyway. It was clearly an effective deterrent because notice no one else said "I will pick up her fallen Trump flag & carry it forward!" - they backed the fuck off.

Doesn't this fall under that "Stand Your Ground" rule the MAGAs are so enamored with?

by Anonymousreply 89July 2, 2021 12:41 PM

Given that the Q-Anoners and Trumpsters are certain that the person who shot Babbit was a member of Mike Pence's detail, they're almost surely just continuing the story of Pence being a member of the Deep State who kept Trump from his rightful place as president.

They also want to know his name so they can go after him.

by Anonymousreply 90July 2, 2021 12:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 93July 2, 2021 3:02 PM

There are recent moves by the GOP that they’re going to go after women’s access to birth control. The pill, for one example, has been a available since 1960. They want to go back to the 50s or earlier. Condoms, of course, will never be hard to get as it’s for the male to decide whether he wants to use one or not. They want everything to go into reverse.

by Anonymousreply 94July 2, 2021 3:22 PM

"I don't see how the identity of the officer is even relevant." Ugh — obvi. The officer who shot Babbitt was not given order to "stand down." So THAT officer in comparison to every other officer is unique.

by Anonymousreply 95July 2, 2021 3:33 PM

Well Derek, you of all people should know that if MAGAs love anything, it's a trigger happy cop. If it was a BLM protester, they'd want to know his name so they could throw him a parade.

by Anonymousreply 96July 2, 2021 3:39 PM

If Babbit had been a black women the MAGAts would have wanted her filled with enough holes so that she looked more like a lace doily than a human being.

by Anonymousreply 97July 2, 2021 3:46 PM

I watched it, 40 minutes well spent. I'd seen most of the footage here and there, but seeing it assembled really drove home the awfulness of the riots, and the rioters. Every single fucking one of them should be imprisoned, and that goes for the politicians who were cowering but afterwards said "it wasn't a riot, it was just tourists."

"I was invited here by the President..." is one quote that particularly stands out from the documentary for me. We all watched Dump peddle the lies and then enable/encourage his supporters into frenzied action/insurrection so it's no surprise that many of them believed they were doing exactly what they were told to do with Presidential impunity. That in no way excuses what the insurrectionists did. Dump has miraculously escaped all blame just like he has his whole life. Dump and his political supporters have a lot to answer for but they will never be called to account. To believe otherwise is preposterous. I remain convinced that Pelosi and Pence are VERY fortunate they didn't find them otherwise they would have both be killed. Hung or pulled apart and beaten to death.

It was fascinating to see a complete timeline of the day which was delivered in an unbiased and factual manner. I had only seen disjointed snippets before this. Also fascinating to see how sparsely the Capitol was guarded and how requested police and army support was ignored (4 times requested by a senior commander). It's unacceptable that credible reports of planned violence delivered to various law agencies were all but ignored. They had to know what was going to happen.

It's crystal clear why police didn't shoot the insurrectionists - thousands would have ended up dead and the consequent nationwide civil unrest would have been unfathomable. This documentary was definitely worth a watch.

by Anonymousreply 103July 4, 2021 4:54 AM

And the Republican Party still supports Trump after this disgusting spectacle! They are truly insane and have lost what little credibility they still had. I'm not a fan of Liz Cheney, but at least she had the decency to say that this Trump madness must end and Republicans need to move on.

by Anonymousreply 104July 4, 2021 6:01 AM

True R104. But anyone who expects credibility or integrity from Republicans is just being willfully stupid at this point. They want to be in power and at any cost.

Not only was it interesting, it was practically beyond belief how sparsely guarded it was. Things that look like conspiracies are usually good old fashioned incompetence at work, but after seeing that video it's almost impossible to believe weak LE response & the failure to reinforce wasn't planned.

While the video was very well done, I noticed the video of the CP taking selfies with the protestors was not part of the video. I'm not saying they should smear the CP, but there were clearly officers that aided protestors.

These people weren't terrorizing anyone except AOC who is perfectly fine letting crime run through her district as long as it is not her. LIke Mayor of Chicago Beetlejuice who won't let anyone protest outside her house, but is fine if it's someone else's.

OP here's an idea why don't you go soak your head in a vat of your antiretrovirals. The ones that Big Pharma made and are saving your life but you hate them anyway.

R123, "whitewash" isn't even the word for it when you have an actual MoC who was literally helping barricade the doors because he knew how dangerous they were and then called those people "tourists" in the aftermath.

White supremacy is a cancer on society. It shows that certain people do not actually believe in competing or equality. They simply think their epidermis alone gives them the right to kill to maintain that superiority.

by Anonymousreply 130July 6, 2021 1:39 AM

Why are the CP such pussies?

They are so passive and accepting of the Senate GOP shutting down a full Congressional investigation, where by their own powers they can go on strike, or have a work stoppage and shut down Congress indefinitely to protest until Mitch agrees to a full investigation! They're not only too stupid and chickenshit to do this, but they all voted for Trump, so they're terrified to rile up the crowd of insurrectionists with whom they agree!

I wonder what they'd be doing if ten cops were killed? Twenty? More?

by Anonymousreply 131July 6, 2021 2:02 AM

What has happened to the insurrectionists? Have the all been charged, had a trial and been locked up? What are their sentences?

And dosen't deserve any of these perks after what he's done to this country over the course of the last six years and what he incited back in January.

Also, the bottom line is that these whites (not a majority of whites) actually do believe they are superior to other races. They believe that law and order was put in place -by them - for the specific purpose to keep the ‘You’ and ‘Other’ in their place - somewhere beneath them on a sliding scale. Hence, they are automatically above the law since in their mind that’s why it’s there in the first place.

Let’s see if NDP can run this Jan. 6 committee effectively. Since Liz Cheney intrinsically knows how these Thugs roll, may she suggest that the entire inquiry be broadcast on one of the many real-time C-SPAN channels so the real TRUTH would be unveiled. Maybe Liz Cheney can suggest that each participant in the investigation be required to see this NYT Jan. 6 release. Perhaps she could highlight some effective and revealing segments so these Pig liars can be called out.

Unfortunately, I don’t think NDP will have any of this because it would be too rude and graphic. I’ll wager that these hearings will occur behind closed doors with mild quoted bubble text excerpts, along with a still picture next to her face on TV news. That’s what she’s going to do and that’s why nothing will come of this closed-door hearings and none of Dumpsters will pay attention, no public debate will occur in any media and the entire effort to unveil the evil events of Jan. 6, 2021 will fall flat on its face. I’d think McConnell will squeal in delight that he was able to cover all of it out.

The above template is why Dump will get off Scott free.

Unless there is something specifically tying him back to his brother, getting Charles Flynn will be tough. Army senior brass already lied once he was on the call (he was), so it's not unreasonable to assume they'll continue to cover for him. Plus, there are active members of the military caught on video in the riots. The military has yet to court martial them. Maybe they will, but in the meantime, these guys keep their jobs & paychecks. I don't think you can attribute this lapse to the Biden administration so much as the military unwilling or unable to clean house.

[quote] “If Speaker Pelosi is looking for one member she may want to think about not approving, it’s Congressman Troy Nehls,” said MSNBC contributor Kurt Bardella. “This was somebody fired from the Richmond police department in Texas for not handling evidence the right way. When he was fired, the person in charge of that, who made that decision, his commanding officer sent him a letter with more than 20 documented infractions of breaching and breaking with quality. [quote] “I was warned on Monday that there might be risks associated with the next few days,” he said. “And as a consequence of those warnings, I did not go to my condo. Instead, I slept on the floor of my office. And when I gave my speech at the Ellipse, I was wearing body armor.

He named, for example, “financial losses suffered because of the government’s reaction to COVID-19,” “the belief that there was significant voter fraud and election theft activity,” or “a great love and respect for President Trump.”

[quote] But if he was so sure the mob would understand the peaceful intent of his words, why’d he need the Kevlar?

I want you to imagine AOC, Ilhan Omar or Rashida Tlaib saying the things Mo Brooks was saying and tell me what the reaction would be from both sides. Then tell me white privilege doesn't exist.

by Anonymousreply 300July 29, 2021 2:10 AM

Don’t care, the insurrectionists are criminals

by Anonymousreply 301July 29, 2021 2:23 AM

I posted this earlier in the thread but I'm STILL shocked by the size of that crowd. FUCK that was A LOT of people.

Oh, most definitely; the Facebook Fraus practically froth when anger even when they express some benign opinion like "childcare should be affordable" (or some travesty like that). It's a combination of white privilege and people - even other women - who cannot abide a woman with some power & influence.

r302? it was massive, and insurrection, not just a riot

R304 Who the FUCK said it was "Just a riot"?

The Justice Department Is Struggling To Bring Capitol Riot Cases To Trial: Here's Why

[quote] "The evidence is significantly more complicated for them than they thought it was going to be, that's clear," Greg Hunter, a defense attorney who is working on a dozen Jan. 6 cases, told NPR. "Every one of those people was carrying a smartphone, every one of them, and they're all taking pictures and videos and all that evidence has actually slowed everything down."

[quote] Twenty-five people have pleaded guilty so far, which leaves a good 550 more cases left to resolve. To try to understand why all this is moving so slowly, NPR spent months speaking with dozens of Jan. 6 defense attorneys, prosecutors and defendants, both on and off the record.

[quote] What our reporting found was that the mountain of evidence is not the only reason why justice appears to be slow. Officials are also having trouble just finding prosecutors to assign to the cases, and some of those prosecutors said officials at headquarters are micromanaging the process, which is hobbling progress as well.

...

[quote] The Justice Department has created a kind of framework for prosecutions, dividing the Jan. 6 defendants into three categories. The first includes people such as Ianni who went inside the Capitol and allegedly walked around but aren't charged with property damage or assaulting police.

[quote] The second category of defendants includes those who broke into the Capitol, damaged property and attempted to stop the certification of the 2020 election. They are facing charges of civil disorder and assault and include people such as Tampa, Fla., crane operator Paul Allard Hodgkins, 38. He was seen carrying a red-and-white "Trump 2020" flag into the well of the Senate, while others stood over the vice president's abandoned chair.

[quote] And finally there is a category that prosecutors have yet to define precisely. These are the people investigators believe are connected to right-wing extremist groups such as the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers and Three Percenters. Officials are investigating whether or not there is hard evidence that shows the assault was planned in advance. Illuminating that would go a long way toward clarifying what actually took place that day.

...

[quote] Juliette Kayyem, a former assistant secretary at the Department of Homeland Security in the Obama administration, said the Justice Department has decided to play hardball with Jan. 6 defendants — hoping to prevent future attacks. It has opted for a legal strategy in the mold of shock and awe: Arrest everyone, charge everyone.

[quote] "You start with the FBI and the investigations that are going on, and you keep them coming," she said. "And every jurisdiction has these cases, and if I sound harsh, good, because this was an attempt to undermine a valid American election."

A loving crowd at the rally. Patriots! Fine people!

Then the antifa and cosplayers, crisis actors and commie pinko fags, showed up to make Republicans look bad. Paid for by Hugo Chávez and George Soros and Jane Fonda!

Oh god, the “they were too dumb” defense again. The same one they used to weasel out of the coordination with Russia charges (which were totally true).

The last time one of them killed themselves, Trumpers on Facebook were accusing Pelosi of having him murdered in his home and covered up so it looked like a suicide. I asked one of the morons, "Why would Nancy do that?" No answer.

I feel terrible for Officer Hashida, his family and for the rest of the Capitol Police force. Realizing half of the people who you could have very easily died protecting on 6 January continue to sell you out for $$ and at the behest of a demented orange lard has to be depressing AF.

This is why I want to punch people who think we don't need CRT or try and pretend minorities aren't systematically targeted by law enforcement.

The Fraternal Order of Police and countless Police Unions were really quick to endorse Trump (a fucking CROOK), they were sure as hell quick with the Blue Lives Matter crap, but dead silence about this. I guess Blues Lives only matter when they're beating the shit out of black and brown people calling them out for precisely what they've proven to be: A racist, corrupt bunch of assholes.
