When watching footage of the Tour de France in the past, I always thought it was strange how in some parts of the road the crowd was right up against the edge, seemingly inches from the speeding cyclists.

Put her in thick wooden stocks locked with heavy chains and make her walk the entire path while the cyclists throw rotten vegetables and eggs from the sidelines. The old ways are best.

The only wanted to charge her when they thought she was a German.

Last execution by any method in France occurred in 1977, which also was last death by beheading anywhere in Western world by said process.

Mitterrand's government came in by 1981 and France subsequently banned executions. Those on "death row" as it were had their sentences commuted to various other terms.

Convicted serial killer Eugen Weidmann's public beheading in 1939 went so badly that yes, France banned further public executions.

Oh and everyone's famous horror film actor Christopher Lee witnessed Eugen Wedmann's execution as a then 17 year old.

Woman will be going on trial this week and faces fines and possible jail time.

France isn't playing apparently and seeks to make an example.

I'm going to swim against the tide and admit I feel a bit sorry for her. What she did was stupid and reckless, but not intentional. If she'd intended to cause an accident, she should absolutely face prison time...but she didn't. She deserves the shaming and she deserves to pay the large fine, but that's it.

Wouldn’t the Tour De France be liable? Proper roping off of crowds should have been in place. Something like this was bound to happen eventually. I’m not sure it’s worth tax payers’ money to put her on trial. It was an obvious accident on her part. No malicious intent.

Instead, figure out how to make the race safer for both the cyclists and spectators.

Could this woman end up suing for her own personal injuries and distress? Was she told she couldn’t stand where she was standing?
