Tell Me About Les Misérables - 1978 Television Movie Staring Anthony Perkins.
Just read about this made for television adaption of Victor Hugo's famous work. Overall reviews are good, so was wondering if any DL inhabitants have something to offer in way of review.
Anthony Perkins alone would get me to watch, but overall cast is rather stellar; Richard Jordan, Cyril Cusack, Claude Dauphin, John Gielgud, Ian Holm, Christopher Guard, Caroline Langrishe, Angela Pleasence, Dexter Fletcher.

Is this a musical film? Or just spoken words?

Oddly enough, I was just thinking about this movie today. I watched it years ago when it first showed on TV and it was excellent and very meaningful. Must watch it again!
R1 Thanks!!!

I had no idea the Broadway musical came after a theatrical release of a film adaptation! I feel sick. I thought the musical was the genesis of everything that happened after that!

Truth to tell there are about fourteen or so film, television and radio adaptions of Les Misérables, and a handful of so called sequels.
Like Proust, Victor Hugo's epic work just inspires persons to conceiver these various adaptations over the years.

Without the music it’s just too depressing.

Don't forget about the 1952 version with Sylvia Sidney as Fantine!

Musical was alright, but sadly "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" has become the go to standard for actors/male singers who often just shouldn't.
Lambert Wilson and some others do the piece justice. OTOH if you've ever sat through auditions or over heard someone warming up (day, after day, after day) you just want to scream "for the love of God please stop".
