Rylan Clark-Neal has broken his silence on the breakdown of his six year marriage to husband Dan Neal.
The presenter has confirmed the speculation about the split is true and blamed himself over their break-up in a heartfelt statement. He said that he is "in a bad place" and that is his "seeking help" over mistakes he made.
Rylan, 32, has said that he hopes his statement would help set the record straight after some incorrect speculation over the reason their marriage broke down. He told The Sun in a statement: "Following reports about Dan and I spending time apart, I feel I have to speak out - as the way it is being reported is unfair. “I have made a number of mistakes which I deeply regret and have inevitably led to the breakdown of our marriage.”
He continued to say that he was trying to "seek help" as he was struggling with some personal issues and is "not in a good place at the moment". Rylan added: “I am trying to take each day at a time and would like to thank you to everyone for their support and for respecting our privacy at this time.”
Rylan had taken a break from his Radio 2 show and stepped down from hosting Eurovision last month. He has also not posted to social media since May 9 when he posed for a selfie with his mum, but covered his face with a mask. His last tweet came a month earlier when he paid tribute to former Big Brother star Nikki Grahame after she tragically lost her battle with anorexia.
Rumours had been swirling about the former X Factor host after he pulled out of a number of TV and radio appearances in recent weeks. Fans of the star became concerned after noticing his silence. Amid the confusion, a source told The Sun that Rylan was taking some time out after calling things off with Dan but he would be 'back on air soon.' They revealed: "Rylan’s one of the most beloved people on TV so fans will be sad to hear what has happened. “He often spoke of their relationship on air and they even co-hosted an episode of This Morning but unfortunately things haven’t worked out." The source added that all those close to Rylan and Dan were 'wishing them the best' as they navigated their break-up.
Dan is said to have moved out of their home into a rented apartment in Essex. Rylan met ex-Met Police detective Dan in 2013 - the same year the former X Factor contestant starred on Celebrity Big Brother.
After winning over a whole new audience on CBB, Rylan was invited to present spin-off show Big Brother's Bit on the Side. It was on the E4 show that Rylan interviewed Dan, who had been a contestant on the main series. Sparks flew between the pair and they got engaged the following year during a trip to Paris. In September 2014, Rylan posted about the happy news on Twittter. "Pleased to say we’re engaged. Thank you for all your lovely messages. Myself and @DanNealOfficial are very happy xxx," gushed Rylan.
The pair then tied the knot in November 2015 in a small ceremony surrounded by only their closest friends and family members. Since then Rylan's showbiz career has gone from strength to strength. He and Dan even made history as the first gay couple to host This Morning. Dan as a son Cameron from a previous relationship, who Rylan developed a close bond with. "I look at Cameron like he’s my own.," said the TV presenter. "He can talk to me. I’m Dad, but he can talk to me about sex! I’ll say, ‘As long as you’re being safe!'” Rylan also shared his pride with Cameron was accepted into LAMDA drama school last July. The post remains on Rylan's Instagram profile, however the star appears to have removed all trace of his ex Dan.
