I'd the dog-eared copy of Infinite Jest.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | June 26, 2021 5:41 PM |
I like to namedrop Joan Didion.
I've never read anything by Joan Didion but I read a review of a documentary about her, and she sounded cool. (She's still alive, right?)
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 26, 2021 5:43 PM |
PS: I'm way too busy posting online to actually read anything, but I read a lot of reviews and "thought pieces" online.
Especially the ones my friends re-post.

I'm the worldwide woke committee who are actually dead inside.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 26, 2021 5:52 PM |
I'm late for my Marxist Literary Group meeting, and I promised to bring wine. Dammit.
I hate my life.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 26, 2021 5:57 PM |
I cut my own hair.
I attend the Whitney Biennial faithfully, but secretly only really like the French Impressionists. And Van Gogh.
I no longer eat wheat, and neither should you, not if you actually care about the planet.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 26, 2021 6:01 PM |

Bostonians will get this:
I’m the Martha’s Vineyard Black Dog t-shirt that every douche from NY who’s now living in the South End owns.

OP, I have never seen a T-Shirt like that. Any reference, please?

I actually had a conversation with a working adult who hadn't even completed his undergrad degree. Can you imagine? He wasn't a complete idiot, at least. It was sort of charming.
I mean, graduate school is an inevitable rite of passage, like losing one's virginity.

R9 just like a travel shirt from an alleged visit to Nepal, more likely a thrift store find
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 27, 2021 2:08 AM |
I'm OP, I find intelligent people a threat, so I start idiotic threads in a pitiful attempt to smear anyone who can actually think for themselves. Heil Trump, heil Q!

I’m three middle aged straight white men going on and on about Richard Ford.

I'm the bad sex.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 27, 2021 2:59 AM |
I'm the straight white man who raves over the "heroes" in Cormac McCarthy and Dennis Johnson; color codes the emotions, plot lines, and themes in any novel he reads and shares his aperçus; and cannot sleep because his brain is on fire. Oh, and tediously and inevitably works in quotes from Infinite Jest into any vaguely literary conversation.

In 1967 I went straight from Cambridge to Time Life’s Paris bureau…a lowly editorial assistant…there was a clerical error—of sorts…the housing secretary on staff was a Catholic and she had worshipped Jackie Kennedy since the ‘61 French visit…well, she saw my name and “assumed” I was part of the clan…so she actually put me in a flat in the 1st! The 1st! Me and Coco fucking Chanel, living in the 1st. When the bureau chief heard, he was livid: here he was in the 7th…and he was a WASP!

I have a child who has been a 'they' since They were a toddler. I am 40-years-old, divorced, and now call myself bi so I can reign terror over LGBT groups across the land. I am at the front of Pride.
I talk a lot about pronouns, class warfare, and how all white people are guilty - even though I grew up in one of the wealthiest suburbs in our city and went straight from hight school to university to post-grad placement helped by my dad's connections.
I actually exist, unfortunately.

Dr Siobhan O'Dwyer, an Australian currently working in the UK, posted on social media how upset she was that cabin crew referred to her as 'Miss' and not 'Doctor'.
On August 31 the senior lecturer at the University of Exeter accused staff of consciously ignoring her academic title, something she sees as sexism.
She tweeted: “Hey Qantas, my name is Dr O’Dwyer. My ticket says Dr O’Dwyer,” she tweeted. “Do not look at my ticket, look at me, look back at my ticket, decide it’s a typo, and call me Miss O’Dwyer.
“I did not spend eight years at university to be called Miss.”

Haven't we moved on Derrida? I think we are now at Jean Baudrillard. It is not about social constructs but hyper-reality. We are in a world with so much information you end up believing nothing.
[quote]The term has implications of ‘too much reality’ – everything being on the surface, without mystery; ‘more real than reality’ – too perfect and schematic to be true, like special effects; and ‘para-reality’, an extra layer laid over, or instead of, reality. It is experienced as more real than the real, because of its effect of breaking down the boundary between real and imaginary. It is a ‘real’ without ‘origin or reality’, a reality to which we cannot connect.
It's hard to develop a cohesive social construct in a fire hose of information.

I was granted tenure at 25 but moved on to a better situation at Yale, where I also now have tenure. My being a minority female with a disability has nothing to do with it!
And yet I do not attack the community college system in the USA, and I do not attack Americans who live where I do not. The cunt fails the thread because "pretentious intellectuals" do not show their cards in such a foolish way, nor do they use terms such as "Flyoverstan" or write with numerals for non-data terms under 10 (Oh, dear).
by Anonymous | reply 245 | July 1, 2021 1:26 PM |
I am R243 who posted successfully in a thread called "Let's be pretentious intellectuals". I am not R244, who does not understand the game being played, and failed to learn anything in college beyond corrupt, boilerplate low-brow Social Justice Warriorship applied to low hanging fruit.
by Anonymous | reply 246 | July 1, 2021 1:38 PM |
I'm the old Social Justice Warrior asshole. Notice how much I hate justice? Fairness? Equality? I'm the failure in life that attacks anyone who has what I don't, intelligence. I stew in my pea brained foul simplicity, lashing out at those I perceive as better than myself because I know that they, in fact, are. They wanted something better than the delusional sewer that is me. I don't want to think about myself. So I attack The Others.
by Anonymous | reply 247 | July 1, 2021 1:45 PM |
I'm the turd who has the Social Justice Warrior fetish. I can't stand that there are people who acknowledge that black people, gay people, women, and others have been persecuted or decades if not hundreds of years, and they want to make life better for them. I label them Social Justice Warriors because it's easier for my small uneducated mind to understand. I can't call them niggers and faggots or cunts anymore because those mean SJP's won't allow my bigotry and hatred. I feel under attack because they are taking away my feelings of superiority over them. That makes me feel small so I lash out at these "woke" SJP's. I'd rather be asleep and continue my reign of terror on minorities. It's the only joy I have in my empty sad life and I'm not about to let "pretentious" intellectuals take my bigotry away from me. It's the only thing that makes the pain of my failures go away.
