Israeli food truck banned from festival in Philadelphia
Horrific discrimination against Jews in Philadelphia!
'Eat Up The Borders' has banned the ONLY Jewish food truck from their event this Sunday
Who's behind this disgusting antisemitism?
Chris "Chip" Coughlan - founder
Cindy M. Ngo - founder
Are we living in 1938 or 2021?!

Actual responses:
[quote] Iran and China citizens aren’t benefiting from an illegally occupied apartheid state. The truck drivers can stop by the roadside and eat the food themselves, Bon appétit.
[quote]“Israeli food” you mean the food the occupation cherry-picked from various Arab countries and claimed as their own? And when are you gonna stop with the pathetic propaganda? Even god rested
[quote] Israeli food? Lol that's funny, tell another one !!!

Jew hatred in America; acceptable, rationalized, rewarded. See R3 comments for details.
The organizers should be charged with hate crime.

The Jews only went to Israel because of the Holocaust, maybe its German food they should be banning.

The lack of outrage is surprising. Aren't there any Jewish people on this site? Anyway, bad look for the organizers. Then again, maybe there were threats of actual violence and they are saying only "threats of protests"?

The lack of outrage is not surprising, because this seems to be a case of people complaining for specious reasons and then online nutbags taking everything too far. No one online, let alone the media, wants to talk about that, it would give away the game. They rely on the nutbags escalating things, it gives them news articles to write.

The Taste of Home event was local and the whole thing happened to a smaller vendor within the local larger event. This smaller vendor called Eat Up the Borders heard the complaints about the Israeli vendor, so they tried to bring in a Palestinian vendor as the protesters requested but there wasn't anyone available, it's a busy time of year. She announced she was going ahead with having the Israeli food cart there and apparently the attacks on her became worse at that point, so she got scared and disinvited the Israeli food truck.
It sounds like people who got caught up in this stuff online lost their minds and started doing the usual hateful comments and death threats stuff, which scared the Eat Up the Borders organizer. She was apparently crying when she disinvited the Israeli food truck vendor, because she was so scared.
The people complaining about the Israel food cart said that the owner was making Palestinian food and falsely labeling it as Israeli, for political reasons. There's no evidence that's what he was doing. He says he absolutely wasn't and I believe him.
I'd bet the larger organization told Eat Up the Borders that if they "brought protesters to the event" by their actions that they'd be kicked out completely. I also think the people who originally complained sound awfully proud of themselves that they got internet trolls saying antisemitic things to scare the organizer.

I don't even know what "it" means in this sentence, let alone "bad step."
The nutbags are the ones who were making death threats and sending antisemitic comments to the lady organizing Eat Up the Borders and the Israeli food truck vendor.
The original complaint about the vendor falsely labeling his food as Israeli when it was Palestinian seems to be sketchy. All they wanted at first was a Palestinian vendor along with the Israeli vendor, but when the organizer couldn't find a Palestinian food vendor who was free that weekend, THEN they complained about the Israeli vendor "appropriating" Palestinian food. At that point, the issue attracted said nutbags who scared the organizer to death with their violent comments.

So let’s just get facts right shall we ,2021. Hating Jews, ok because of Israel. Hating women , fine cause they are Transphobes and Terfs and hating Gays is fine cause we are male and there are many White Gay people and we don’t define ourselves as non binary and Transphobia. So I spent my life thinking the Right would destroy us only to have the radical Left come from nowhere and shit on us. Did not see that happening in the 90s.

[quote]The original complaint about the vendor falsely labeling his food as Israeli when it was Palestinian seems to be sketchy.
Everything from bourekas to felafel to shwarma to labneh to laffeh to kebab to knafeh to baklawa was introduced into the region by the Ottomans. To claim that it is specifically "Palestinian", when is also Israeli, Jordanian, Lebanese and Syrian (and, of course, Turkish), is complete nonsense.
Due to their ignorance, the organizers have discriminated (and worse) against the Israeli food vendor. Their solution, that there must be a "Palestinian" food vendor, simply adds insult to injury.

No one wants a food fight in the middle of the Brotherly Love Cheesesteak Fest. Everyone knows the Americans will be supplying pork and shellfish to the Israelis to whom we've already supplied our cutting edge slingshot technology.

If you take the argument about "food appropriation" to its logical conclusion, Black and White Americans should stop eating corn because it's a Native American food.
However, the appropriation argument is blatantly false in that the majority of Israeli Jews are Mizrachi, e.g., from North Africa and the Middle East. They've been eating hummus and felafel back in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Morocco and Libya for centuries. There's nothing specifically "Palestinian" about that food.

[quote]Teddy Roosevelt because for some reason he's CANCELLED.
Dude was a psychopath! Schools don't teach all the completely bonkers and racist stuff he did. He not only outlawed all Asians from the US, he wanted the military to teach jiu jitsu to every soldier in case they ran into one of those Asians, all of whom knew martial arts and sorcery, according to him. He ran on a policy of being opposed to allowing women or blacks to have equal rights. Just because all you learned was the Teddy Bear history of TR doesn't mean he wasn't a real piece of work.

I'd agree with this, but if anyone shouldn't be talking about stealing other peoples' cuisines, it's Arabs. They've stolen much of their cuisine from Greeks, Armenians, Turks.

Having read the Times of Israel story I actually feel sorry for the Eat Up the Borders organisers. They were intimidated into doing this by threats of violence from persons unknown, probably neonazis/ BDS protestors not that there's much between them. Yes they probably would have been better off in the long run to stand up to the threats but its understandable that a small community organisation like this might have caved.
The smart move would have been to go public with the threats, got the ADL and others involved and reported the threats to the police and invited the Israeli food van guys anyway, and called for help from the local Jewish community to provide security, support etc
The opportunity seems to have been missed to go after the real villains in this story, whoever intimidated the Eat Up the Borders people in the first place. They need to be rooted out and exposed, so everyone can see the rotten underbelly of antisemitism in society

Any security required should have been provided by the police and/or arranged by the organizers. Otherwise, it's simply reinforcing Jew hatred.

R41 Fair point. I suspect the organisers dont have those sort of resources to hand though, but a stand definitely needs to made against Jew hatred as OP says..... and sad to say there's some right here in this thread
I was gonna say, R29 is bang on with his post;
[quote] The belief that Jews are evil and control the world = anti-Semitisim
The belief that Israeli is evil and controls the world = anti-Zionism
And if you made a Venn diagram of the people holding these two sets of beliefs it would be an almost perfect circle with the tiniest sliver at one edge

There has never been an ethnicity "Palestininan" until 1967 when the former Egyptian and Syrian and Jordanians in the West Bank (Part of Jordan) and Gaza (part of Egypt) started calling themselves that for political reasons.
That's why there's no Palestinian language, currency, culture or history. People need to read a history book.
