Help me settle an argument please

Help me settle an argument

I live with three other room mates . We do shared dinners, we cook a night each on rotation. Last night I made spaghetti bolognese and then tonight my roommate has essentially made the same thing except used a different denomination of pasta. I have told him this is dumb and from now on we can only have a single red sauce and mince based dish a week. This has caused a disagreement and he strongly believes whoever is cooking should be able to cook what they want. What do all of you think?

by Anonymousreply 68June 25, 2021 8:48 AM

get your own apartment, doll

by Anonymousreply 1June 24, 2021 11:29 AM

OP's did it better, I guess. That's why she flew into a fatty rage.

by Anonymousreply 2June 24, 2021 11:35 AM

" mince based dish "

What does that mean?

by Anonymousreply 3June 24, 2021 11:36 AM

Move out OP. It sounds like a whole lot of drama and angst.

by Anonymousreply 4June 24, 2021 11:37 AM

OP types like a fat fool.

by Anonymousreply 5June 24, 2021 11:40 AM

The spaghetti wasn't rinsed & drained? Ewwwww

by Anonymousreply 6June 24, 2021 11:40 AM

The One Where Nobody Noticed the Use By Date.

by Anonymousreply 7June 24, 2021 11:41 AM

We think that you should post on r/choosingbeggars because you're just bitter than someone else is just as lazy as a cook as you are and expect other people to go to more effort than you do when cooking.

Also, we suspect that you probably are positioned to be able to choose to cook early in the rotation, thus giving you an advantage in selecting the easy meals...

by Anonymousreply 8June 24, 2021 12:03 PM

Watch out for poison in your food, OP.

by Anonymousreply 9June 24, 2021 12:07 PM

Stop being cheap and hire a cook. Some poor lady needs a job.

by Anonymousreply 10June 24, 2021 12:16 PM

OP types fat. Pasta on two consecutive days?

by Anonymousreply 11June 24, 2021 12:17 PM

2.5/10

by Anonymousreply 12June 24, 2021 12:17 PM

Do you all take your meals together as roommates because you're pandemic shut ins or because you can't cope without the family structure? It all sounds ridiculous to me. You're independent adults. Why the schedule?

by Anonymousreply 13June 24, 2021 12:32 PM

OP cooks spaghetti bolognese when it's his turn to cook, but expects his roommates to prepare a 5 course meals for him and gets upset if they cook something quick? Get your own place.

by Anonymousreply 14June 24, 2021 12:36 PM

Throuples really don’t work, do they?

by Anonymousreply 15June 24, 2021 12:37 PM

OP types old. He has no roommates, or if he does, he’s in a nursing home and they never do anything together because he’s a mincing prisspot. (Hence “mince-based”)

.05/10

by Anonymousreply 16June 24, 2021 12:44 PM

Mince-based to me indicates UK or some other country besides the US. We don't call ground meat "mince" in the US.

by Anonymousreply 17June 24, 2021 12:52 PM

What R17 said. OP is British.

If you don't like the pasta, heat up a frozen British pizza with ham and pineapple and corn and green peppers.

by Anonymousreply 18June 24, 2021 12:54 PM

We're just going to ignore that a presumably grown adult lives with three roommates?

Unless you're in college, your living situation is more appalling that spaghetti for two straight days.

by Anonymousreply 19June 24, 2021 12:56 PM

IF you don't like what they make, fuck off and get a kebob.

by Anonymousreply 20June 24, 2021 12:57 PM

spaghetti bolognese, ummmmmmmm

I LURVE IT!

by Anonymousreply 21June 24, 2021 1:01 PM

Poor Brits arguing over spag bol?

Ew.

by Anonymousreply 22June 24, 2021 1:03 PM
a different denomination of pasta

Presbyterian vs Methodist?

Hey there's nothing wrong with grown people of any age living together if they choose. Just because OP has actual friends who want to live with him and you all have no friends.

by Anonymousreply 23June 24, 2021 1:05 PM

OP, just be happy someone cooked...it's not hard or gourmet!

by Anonymousreply 24June 24, 2021 1:14 PM

OP served his roomies pasta.

Now he wants his roomies to serve him filet mignon.

That's all this is about. OP is not pulling his carb-enhanced weight.

by Anonymousreply 25June 24, 2021 1:16 PM

I'd like a breakdown of the macros. The devil is the detail. And so is the justice.

by Anonymousreply 26June 24, 2021 1:18 PM

OP, do you "mince" around the kitchen?

by Anonymousreply 27June 24, 2021 1:20 PM

I actually agree OP. It would be different if they used chicken. Or, they could have made a cream based sauce. But honestly, two red sauces back to back just isn’t okay.

by Anonymousreply 28June 24, 2021 1:23 PM

Is this the new plot line in Eastenders? (It's gotten that boring.)

by Anonymousreply 29June 24, 2021 2:09 PM

R29, get outta my pub!

by Anonymousreply 30June 24, 2021 2:12 PM

Your roommate is correct….fuck off with the micro-managing..

by Anonymousreply 31June 24, 2021 2:13 PM

4 roommates and you all have dinner together at the same time like in some boarding house in a movie on TCM?

by Anonymousreply 32June 24, 2021 2:17 PM

If OP tries to pass off pasta as a satisfactory execution of his cooking responsibilities, then he gets pasta in return.

by Anonymousreply 33June 24, 2021 2:18 PM

Life is short. Eat the fucking pasta on your knees thanking God that evidently in the context of your life this is a big problem.

by Anonymousreply 34June 24, 2021 2:40 PM

33 replies and not a word yet from Darfur Orphan.

He must have finally starved to death.

by Anonymousreply 35June 24, 2021 2:50 PM

^^One can only hope^^

by Anonymousreply 36June 24, 2021 3:00 PM

Shut up and eat it, or shut up and find your own dinner, lest your flatmates turn your micr-managing ass into mince.

by Anonymousreply 37June 24, 2021 3:07 PM

Not really an answer to your question, but when you make pasta with sauce, you should make enough sauce to freeze a container of sauce, then you have it the following week. It even tastes better.

I agree your roommate should not have made a similar pasta dish. But if he does you could try just eating the pasta with butter or oil (and maybe some minced garlic that's been cooked in the oil). And not eat the sauce.

by Anonymousreply 38June 24, 2021 3:26 PM

Oh, dear

by Anonymousreply 39June 24, 2021 3:31 PM

R39 What's the "oh dear"for this time?

by Anonymousreply 40June 24, 2021 3:32 PM

Many young people live with roommates after graduating from college. I did.

OP, it’s not worth fighting over. Let him make whatever he wants. If you feel like you’re getting too much pasta, stop making pasta yourself.

by Anonymousreply 41June 24, 2021 4:12 PM

OP fucking rinses his cooked pasta, refrigerates his fucking bread loaves too! What a fucking mess!

by Anonymousreply 42June 24, 2021 4:20 PM
R23 Hey there's nothing wrong with grown people of any age living together if they choose. Just because OP has actual friends who want to live with him and you all have no friends.

Plus we have so much angst about the economy and people going into debt everywhere. If people want to cut expenses by sharing a house or an apartment, that’s very healthy.

by Anonymousreply 43June 24, 2021 4:23 PM

Thank you, R17 and R18.

I realize now that the mince-meat pies they sell at Christmas much be British meat pies.

by Anonymousreply 44June 24, 2021 4:45 PM

4 roommates

They're Brits so they're poor and can't afford much. They house is probably 400sq feet at that.

by Anonymousreply 45June 24, 2021 5:10 PM

I bet they like anal though

by Anonymousreply 46June 24, 2021 5:38 PM

Spaghetti and Anal!

by Anonymousreply 47June 24, 2021 5:40 PM

R44, mince pies might have originally contained meat but they no longer do.

by Anonymousreply 48June 24, 2021 5:42 PM

But do they contain anal?

by Anonymousreply 49June 24, 2021 8:27 PM

Something like this happening once, you just shut up and eat what is fixed, if it become a regular occurrence that is when you say something.

by Anonymousreply 50June 24, 2021 8:32 PM

LOL - as if it's a personal lifestyle choice.

Next, you'll be trying to convince everyone that draining your paste after cooking it with a colander is fine.

by Anonymousreply 51June 24, 2021 8:32 PM

OP you really need to learn how to become passive aggressive, not just aggressive.

by Anonymousreply 52June 24, 2021 8:38 PM

OP, it really gets down to which one of you bitches is the bottom.

by Anonymousreply 53June 24, 2021 9:19 PM

R51 Draining your paste after cooking it with a colander?

by Anonymousreply 54June 24, 2021 9:30 PM

Since when do 4 roommates all sit down and have dinner together every night? Like 1938? Unless this is in Moscow.

by Anonymousreply 55June 24, 2021 9:46 PM

Maybe they’re all in a halfway house, post rehab?

by Anonymousreply 56June 24, 2021 9:55 PM

Face it Op, you are not roommate material.

by Anonymousreply 57June 24, 2021 10:01 PM
LOL - as if it's a personal lifestyle choice.

R51 How do you know what it is? Maybe it's a life choice and maybe it's economic reality. And?

by Anonymousreply 58June 24, 2021 10:52 PM

Who provides the frosting?

by Anonymousreply 59June 25, 2021 2:03 AM

OP = Ina Garten

by Anonymousreply 60June 25, 2021 2:08 AM

How old are you and your housemates, OP?

by Anonymousreply 61June 25, 2021 6:37 AM

Make some Tater Tot Casserole courtesy of simply Sara.

by Anonymousreply 62June 25, 2021 6:42 AM

Be like me. I just bring home bread and baloney and tell everybody to make a sandwich.

by Anonymousreply 63June 25, 2021 6:45 AM

OP, your roommate might not be able to prepare a variety of entrees. He likely gathered the ingredients to prepare his meal before you shared your pasta Bolognese and wasn’t able to whip up an alternative. Rather than rotating meal duty, could you split the planning and preparation to ensure a varied menu? Otherwise, make a toasted cheese sandwich if your can’t have red sauce with mince twice in a week.

by Anonymousreply 64June 25, 2021 7:05 AM

Here’s how to settle it. Shoot him.

by Anonymousreply 65June 25, 2021 7:06 AM

OP, you're a bitch. Just because you made past first doesn't mean you made it better. He knows he's repeating pasta but unless that becomes a weekly occurrence, STFU

by Anonymousreply 66June 25, 2021 8:13 AM

Your roomie should use every knife in the house on your heart, OP. You fucking suck. Worst EST in awhile.

by Anonymousreply 67June 25, 2021 8:43 AM

How often does something like this happen really, OP, that it affects your life?

Unless you want everyone to plan the meals together like once a week, [bold]just let the cook choose what to make.[/bold] So you might have similar meals now and then, it's really not something to get worked up about
