Pit Bull Boxer Mix

A recipe for disaster?

by Anonymousreply 28June 21, 2021 2:41 PM

I hate Pitbulls and Boxers. Definite disaster for me.

by Anonymousreply 1June 20, 2021 11:27 PM

No, boxers are sweet. A mix is is always preferable. Fewer health issues.

by Anonymousreply 2June 20, 2021 11:33 PM

Both are incredibly sweet. I had a boxer mix who was the greatest dog on the history of dogs. And my pit mix is the sweetest, most loving dog imaginable. (He occasionally gets beat up by his brother, who is not a pit.)

by Anonymousreply 3June 20, 2021 11:36 PM

Boxers are nice, sweet, gentle dogs. Pitbulls, though—no. Any mix with a Pit is disaster.

by Anonymousreply 4June 20, 2021 11:38 PM

Boxer are nice. The other is not. Please search DL for hundreds of stories of how volatile and unpredictable pitbulls are, even the seemingly "nice" ones.

by Anonymousreply 5June 20, 2021 11:40 PM

I got one of my dogs as a puppy from a shelter. She was a pickup from the pound truck so no background. After a while I realized she was pit mixed with another terrier. I love her to death, and she loves everyone she considers family, but I wouldn't get another mix, and definitely not a pure pit or other fighting dog. It's been near impossible to have guests over, and any workers are impossible. The risks of having one are too great. They were never bred to be house pets.

Shrieeeek!!!!!!!!!

Where are my smelling salts???!?!?!?!?

by Anonymousreply 7June 20, 2021 11:46 PM

Can I have your stuff?

by Anonymousreply 8June 20, 2021 11:46 PM

If it's a puppy, yes, with solid training.

If it's an adult, you'd really have to spend some time with it. Be sure it doesn't have any issues like food defense.

This is dangerous advice. Buy a pit puppy or adult at your own risk.

A friend's "sweet pit bull" sent a mutual friends cat into surgery.

by Anonymousreply 11June 20, 2021 11:52 PM

Serve it tuna noodle casserole

Years ago I had a border collie female who got knocked up by the pit bull next door. She had eight puppies, of which I kept one. Within a couple of months the pit bull mix had become defiant a few times, and once she turned on me and grabbed my arm in her jaws. Fortunately she backed off and didn't crush my arm, but I was wary of her after that. I gave her away about a year later.

Are you a homeowner? Insurance companies are starting to refuse coverage for owners of certain breeds.

I used to be a defender of pit bulls. Then one almost killed my neighbor and his dog. His beloved keeshond/poodle mix barely survived (and became a "tripod"). The man was the worst dog bite victim that the hospital had seen up to that time.

A couple years later, my nextdoor neighbor got a pit/Am Staff mix who was a good dog at first (he was #1 in his obedience class). Within a year, became extremely aggressive and bit the other nextdoor neighbor. I know for sure that this dog would have killed my cat if she had gotten into their back yard.

Boxers are a wonderful breed; smart, loyal and ridiculously affectionate. Why taint that by mixing it with a highly unpredictable breed?

by Anonymousreply 14June 21, 2021 12:23 AM

I concur about Boxers being the sweet, sweet, sweeties that they are. I am soon to lose my fourth and final Boxer to old age and disease. I raised them all from six to eight wks until their deaths. Wonderful dogs which should not be mentioned in the same sentence with Pitbull s.

OP, don't listen to the shrieking nellie maiden aunt prisspots on here.

by Anonymousreply 16June 21, 2021 12:59 AM

It's very common for pit bulls to show no aggressive behavior, and then one day you are looking at them maiming a human or animal r16.

I hope that never happens with your dog, but the risk is there.

These posters trashing pits know nothing about dogs.

My line of work centers on animals and I should know.

by Anonymousreply 18June 21, 2021 1:20 AM

Ah, yes. Welcome to the pitbull hate crowd on DL.

We had a pit that played with my Amazon parrot. The bird rode around on the pit's back. He loves pits to this day. The neighbor's pits come to visit and kiss the parrot threw the screen.

The pit also played with the local deer, getting chased by adolescent deer. Then, chasing them back.

I have an incredibly sweet 8 year-old Boxer-Pit Bull mix that I adopted from a shelter when he was 9 months.

He's never shown any aggression - if anything, he's one of the most timid and easily frightened dogs I've ever had.

by Anonymousreply 20June 21, 2021 1:26 AM

Any Boxer I’ve known has been an incredibly gentle dog. They might not look friendly, but they’re definitely not mean dogs.

by Anonymousreply 21June 21, 2021 1:29 AM

Boxers are sweet. Sometimes dumber than dirt, but sweet.

by Anonymousreply 22June 21, 2021 1:40 AM

Fuck off R18, you arrogant piece of shit. My work centered on animals, too. I was the groomer of the dog that lost his leg to the pit bull. Of course, there are many pits that are just fine, but there are plenty of others with serious aggression problems that can't be blamed on the owners.

Bull terriers and American Staffordshire terriers are purebred bully breeds (among others) that are generally safer alternatives to a pit bull. Dogs that have been line-bred as fighting stock definitely pose a higher safety risk compared to dogs that have been bred for conformation.

by Anonymousreply 23June 21, 2021 1:43 AM

Actually, R23, you can fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 24June 21, 2021 2:08 AM

Fuck off with this racism toward pit bulls. We must consider the intersectionality of all dogs. Pitties are fiercely loyal and make great nanny dogs. That’s the reason I gave one to my pregnant sister so she can take a load off and rest while the pittie does all the work.

by Anonymousreply 25June 21, 2021 2:37 AM

Something like 90% of people who go to the ER with dog bite injuries are pitbull related. Math does care how sweet your dog was.

by Anonymousreply 26June 21, 2021 4:44 AM

The flamingly nellie caftan flappers can only have dogs that fit in their purses. Any dog bigger than their own bowel movements are strictly verbiten.

by Anonymousreply 27June 21, 2021 2:01 PM

Boxers are on the home owner insurance hot list in most metro areas along with pits. There are reasons for this.
