I say they got two reasons: one, people like to pick and choose when they want to be offended. For me, I try to keep one standard irrespective of whether I like the person or not. But second, I don’t like how people drop every ounce of cynicism they have when it comes to someone they like. I don’t find Matt Gaetz particularly attractive but I bet there are plenty of women willing to give him the time of day because of Daddy’s Money/Congressman/Connections.

Women love being around high-powered men and when it turns out not to be what they expected they get in front of somebody’s camera and play the biggest victim in the world. If Gaetz is abusing or trafficking underage girls go to the police. But if I’m hearing about it vis-a-vis a media outlet I know already hates him so they jump at the first opportunity to throw his name in some bullshit, I’m not giving it my time or energy.

Because Gaetz didn’t marry his college sweetheart at 23 and pop out a few kids, because he might like to party, because he may be playing the field, doesn’t make him a predator. The LGBTQ community should be cognizant of this type of shaming narrative because trust me it’s just a matter of time before they do it to a public figure who’s gay but doesn’t stay on code.
