I tell you what, though....
She really shouldn't tweet. She ruins her image;
"I have so much I want to share I am just filled with gratitude , their songs on this album are dedicated to each of you from my heart I guess we have to do a little bit at a time. Love you so much."
Thanks R13. It's easy listening. I think the chorus; "Thank you, thank you, for. Thank you, thank you, for that" could catch on whenever someone here's it.

It's the sentiment, dummies! As bitchy as she is, Ross does have a humble side and with this cut she is telling us how just how much she appreciates the experience as a whole! I mean that's what I'm thinking. Now I'm going to listen to the song.

I do! Ross is much more of an entertainer than a songtress. I respect that fact that she has had such a long career within a BRUTAL industry and is still able to sell out venues, record, etc. A woman. A Black woman who has sustained such longevity is amazing. Name 5 other Black women entertainers who have reached and sustained her level.
I saw her two years ago and it was a wonderful and, entertaining show. It's clear (well, to me anyway) that she loves what she does, she realizes how lucky she has been, and that she knows that her fans/audiences are the major part of her success. At this point in her life I think all she wants to do is sing and solidify her work.

Her music post-Motown has always been largely underwhelming. I’m always amazed that an artist of her caliber couldn’t get better material, do better DJ remixes etc. I love her, but I think she’s cheap, too controlling, and should have relied more on others to help her stay more relevant like Cher. When I saw her in concert in 2004? —the stage made me feel like she hadn’t upgraded anything in her show since 1979.
These Almighty mixes are good but I don’t think she had anything to do with them.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 19, 2021 1:01 AM |
[quote]She's 77 years old. Why do people have to be such absolute cunts?
Because Miss Ross has been one throughout her entire career. The ONLY reason she was head of the Supremes is because she was giving Gordy the same in his office.

If you didn't grow up with her music, you'll never get her tremendous pull on her fans. Sure the voice is in shreds, she's been singing since the early 1960s. Orders for her new album put her at #5 on Amazon's pop chart. Mariah is a slut; Mary and Flo were second-rate. Why does everyone despise an ambitious woman, particularly an ambitious black woman? Sing out, Diana! Fuck you bitches.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 19, 2021 1:07 AM |
Yes—but Berry was so controlling that after she left Motown she resented anyone telling her what to do career-wise - and made terrible music choices that she could have avoided. I still cringe whenever I hear/see Workin’ Overtime.

[quote]Why does everyone despise an ambitious woman, particularly an ambitious black woman?
The very few who despise her are mostly these Black girls here (think LSA) who are jealous of Ross, her image, and her success. They want everyone to like... rather LOVE, that piemaking heifer that screams as she rolls her fat ass all over the stage floor. That's "saaaaaangin'"
Then you have those that want to protect and promote the backup singing girls because... well, I don't know... maybe they identify with them? Anyway, instead of working hard and charting their own paths, those girls were too busy drinking and fucking while Ross worked and worked hard. They'll say she only got to where she is because she fucked Berry Gordy. Well, I say, at least she fucked the right one and it paid off!
Finally, you have those who are jealous of the Ross children. Miss Ross has had little to no issues with any her children. They make their own money and don't have to rely upon the success of their mother unlike the children of these other messes (and that would include Aretha Franklin too) that live on the success of their famous mother and/or father.

I honestly think that she may have a hit here. I've listened to the song about 8 times now and it is taking me to good place. Work with me here;
I can envision this song playing as I'm driving to work on a sunny, very clear blue-sky morning, and no traffic. Everything is going right in life ie relationship, work, no stress, and then this song. I like it. It's very catchy. It sort of reminds me (in a strange kind of way) of that song "Come On Get Happy". It works. Wouldn't it be something if Ross actually had another hit at this time in her career and at her age?

The only people excited about this new song are gays and middle aged white fraus.

It was a stupid decision to intercut the bland song with clips of her talking decades ago.

by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 19, 2021 7:08 PM |
It's a shame she's only released two new albums in the last twenty one years. But I think she got tired of the grind, and in the Us, busting her ass off and not getting much in return.
Her return to Motown was a disaster. Working Overtime was poorly received for good reason, but both Force Behind the Power and Take Me Higher were excellent returns to form that the label completely botched up promoting.
By contrast, in Europe she was having some of her biggest success ever during these years. Force in particular was a monster hit in the UK, giving her five top forty hits. And in Japan she charted one of the biggest selling songs of all time with If We Hold on Together.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | June 19, 2021 7:23 PM |
Well, R69... her career isn't so much different from many other of the musical artists in today's current music industry --especially those in her age range. No one really buys music anymore. It's all captured for free on the internet. I mean... how many record labels are there now? Record contracts are few and offered to even fewer. One of the only ways left for a musical act to make money is to tour. Ross has been extremely successful in that regard. She makes $250K/week!
Her return to Motown was a disaster? Not financially! She made out BIG time as one of the major shareholders when the label was sold to Universal (I think that's who bought it) Anyway, to have an album produced today by anyone means that those sales have to be guaranteed. There is no room for slippage or mistakes. That's why many artists have gone independent (they really had no choice) or are in record contracts of where there is very minimal risks to the record label.

NOT. AT. ALL, R71. The art and craftsmanship of a good song and lyric is to tell a story and/or take you to another place all within 3 minutes. For me, this Ross' song does just that. Just listen to the lyrics and then the hook. It's a very well crafted song. Just to give you another example of of my favorite songs that takes me away is "Tenderly"
"The evening breeze caress the trees, tenderly
The trembling trees embrace the breeze, tenderly
Then you and I came wandering by
And lost in a sigh were we
The shore was kissed by sea and mist, tenderly
I can't forget how two hearts met breathlessly
Your arms opened wide and closed me inside
You took my lips, you took my love so tenderly"
One can imagine themselves in that setting and consciously/unconsciously observing (taking in) such a moment. This new Ross song takes me to a place of where I am thankful for where I am and the moment that I am in. So! I think it works.

Diana Ross (born March 26, 1944), 77, Detroit, Michigan; is an American singer, songwriter and actress from Detroit. She rose to fame as the lead singer of the vocal group the Supremes, who became Motown's most successful act during the 1960s and one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. They remain the best-charting female group in US history, with a total of twelve number-one hit singles on the US Billboard Hot 100, including, "Where Did Our Love Go", "Baby Love", "Come See About Me", and "Love Child".
by Anonymous | reply 103 | June 21, 2021 1:21 AM |
According to Ross, her mother actually named her "Diane," but, a clerical error resulted in her name being recorded as "Diana" on her birth certificate. She was listed as "Diane" during the first Supremes records, and she introduced herself as "Diane" until early in the group's heyday. Her friends and family still call her "Diane."

Thank You is the upcoming twenty-fifth studio album by American singer Diana Ross, scheduled to be released through Decca Records on September 10, 2021. It marks Ross' first studio album since 2006's I Love You, and first original material since 1999's Every Day Is a New Day. The album was written during COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns in 2020 and recorded in Ross's home studio. Ross co-wrote all 13 tracks, and worked with songwriter and producer Jack Antonoff, as well as Jimmy Napes, Tayla Parx and Spike Stent. The title track was issued as the lead single on June 17, 2021. Ross will tour the UK in support of the album in 2022.

Translation: Another vanity project with three men helping her do whatever she wants musically since Miss Ross is paying the cost to be “The Boss”. Another album of mediocre pop songs to add to the collection. 😑
by Anonymous | reply 155 | June 27, 2021 1:09 PM |
I'm confused by your comments, R155. Why such animosity towards Ross? At her age, and given her career, hasn't she earned the right to have a vanity project and CONTROL it the way that she sees fit? Either the album will sell or it won't. But, doesn't she too have a right to experiment, use her knowledge, and produce a product that she wants and is happy with, like other artists? What is it that you want? Or, what is it that is REALLY pissing you off so much?
by Anonymous | reply 156 | June 27, 2021 1:21 PM |
The song titles sound like insipid sound bytes mouthed by contestants in the Miss World pageant. Miss Ross forgot to have a song called "All I Want Is World Peace."
by Anonymous | reply 157 | June 27, 2021 1:21 PM |
R155 Yeah, those song titles sound terrible and cheesy. And if the first single is usually the “best” song from an album, I hate to think what the rest will sound like.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | June 27, 2021 1:36 PM |
If you read her Twitter account and/or her autobiography Secrets of a Sparrow, those song titles won't come as a complete surprise.

R167... girl, don't be so desperate in trying to look for friends and/or trying to keep yourself relevant when you can't. Your trying to create controversy on a thread about Miss Ross ain't gonna work!
Listen up, honey lamb... Mary Wilson is dead and your beloved heifer is somewhere stuffing her face with sweet potato pies because she sure isn't doing it on the stage or in any recording studios. Gladys... well... it's nice to hear that she is still on this side because I honestly thought that she had left here long before that "pain in the ass" Mary did. If you're one of Dionne's girls... do you know if she cleans the living rooms while she performs? I might be interested in her if that's part of her performance.
Click on the link below and go over to that thread to commiserate with your contemporary, doll...

Woman's got the money and ability to record a new album entirely in her own home studio, has her first single from it released by an established label, and says she plans to tour in Europe in support of it in 2022, and she's basically still doing all this unbelievably approaching age 80? Doesn't sound bad to me, seems pretty incredible actually. More luck and kudos to her.

by Anonymous | reply 188 | July 17, 2021 6:56 AM |
I believe I read somewhere that many of the early Motown artists were trained to “dialogue” with the audience like that during songs. I’ve listened to Marvin Gaye in live recordings do the same thing. I think Diana does it too much, IMO, and it comes across very disingenuous.

The bitch can barely sing these days and tries to get away with asking the audience to "sing" three quarters of every song. Diana Ross, 'Thank You' (Nov. 5)
Recorded in her home studio, the 13 tracks on Ross’ 25th studio album – and first since 2006’s “I Love You” album – are designed to instigate joy. The eternally regal vocalist worked with producer Jack Antonoff (Taylor Swift, Lorde) as well as songwriters Jimmy Napes (Sam Smith) and Amy Wadge (Ed Sheeran) to create an “inclusive musical message of love and togetherness.” The two singles released so far – the title track and the mirror ball throbber “If the World Just Danced” – indicate Ross’ goal of sparking happiness will be achieved. – Ruggieri

I don't know if I'm asking this correctly but I'll ask it anyway; When did you know that Diana Ross could really sing?
For me, it was two specific songs; 1) The Boss and 2) She did some special of where she sang gospel (99 1/2 Just Won't Do) With "The Boss" she hit notes that I never thought prior that she could hit and with the gospel song I was surprised (and then learned more about) her church/gospel roots.

The montage of clips in the video are interesting, she certainly had a lot of grand diva style over the years. She's the rare woman who (imo) looked far better in her 50s and 60s, once she put on a few elder pounds and finally got a curvy figure. She looked her best in those years, filling out her couture gowns.
