Tasteful friends: I present 1024 Smith Ridge Road

In the heart of the WASPs nest known as New Canaan, CT.

I think it's a bargain at 5.75 personally.

I like it but I don’t have millions of dollars.

by Anonymousreply 1June 17, 2021 9:09 PM

Is there any white left for the rest of us?

by Anonymousreply 2June 17, 2021 9:10 PM

Tasteless and so very, very, very, VERY white.

by Anonymousreply 3June 17, 2021 9:15 PM

Its beautiful...I wouldn't change a thing, although it does seem about a half million to one million over market.

by Anonymousreply 4June 17, 2021 9:19 PM

So, so white...

by Anonymousreply 5June 17, 2021 9:34 PM

White and bland: truly WASPish, OP.

by Anonymousreply 6June 17, 2021 9:36 PM

Digits?

by Anonymousreply 7June 17, 2021 9:45 PM

The foyer (assuming that's a pic of the main foyer) needs a serious overhaul. It's not nearly grand enough for that type of house.

by Anonymousreply 8June 17, 2021 9:50 PM

A gravel driveway? How barbaric.

by Anonymousreply 9June 17, 2021 9:51 PM

Honey, New Canaan, CT is so very, very, very, VERY white.

(and "so restricted!" as my Jewish grandparents used to say)

by Anonymousreply 10June 17, 2021 9:56 PM

Too white and much too much. Ugh. No. Why does anyone need this much white+house?

by Anonymousreply 11June 17, 2021 9:58 PM

Gloria Upson, Peter's snobby girlfriend in "Mame" was from a "restricted" community in Connecticut called Mountebank. I always thought Mounteback was a stand-in for New Caanan.

Darien was the town portrayed in Gentleman's Agreement-- VERY WHITE and non -ethnic.

Anyone know a real estate agent in New Canaan?

by Anonymousreply 15June 18, 2021 12:06 AM

Given the exterior , the interior is a bit of a surprise.

by Anonymousreply 16June 18, 2021 12:48 AM

I LOVE the property. The house? It's too large, and far too formal for my taste. It doesn't feel remotely like a home. I'd rather have a four bedroom, four and-a-half bath rustic cottage. Or the Martha's Vineyard farmhouse we recently discussed.

by Anonymousreply 17June 18, 2021 12:56 AM

WASP? This isn't 1965 honey. WASPs are lumped in under the "white people" umbrella in the 21st Century.

by Anonymousreply 18June 18, 2021 1:10 AM

The interior belongs in Los Angeles, terribly un-WASP.

by Anonymousreply 19June 18, 2021 1:11 AM

[quote]Darien was the town portrayed in Gentleman's Agreement-- VERY WHITE and non -ethnic.

That movie was almost 80 fucking years ago.

by Anonymousreply 20June 18, 2021 1:13 AM

The house is beautiful. I don't get the white and cream EVERYWHERE. It looks more like Los Angeles than New Canaan. WASPS have never been afraid of having any color in their homes. The champagne colored chaises longues and that hideous sculpture make it look like entertainment people have infiltrated the neighborhood. Ghastly.

New Canaan's Silver Hill Hospital is where all the rich druggies and alkies on the East Coast go for treatment. Joan Kennedy practically has a condo there.

It's so dated, like somebody with money in the 1980's had it redone and it stayed that way. The metal patio furniture is a dead giveaway. Nobody buys that iron/steel outdoor furniture anymore. They buy teak. Beautiful place but no homey, bland and seems sad and dead.

by Anonymousreply 23June 18, 2021 1:52 AM

P.S. This isn't WASP. It's very, very East Coast Jewish. I can practically smell the egg salad and matzah from here.

by Anonymousreply 24June 18, 2021 1:53 AM

"WASP" hasn't been a thing in two or three generations, but don't tell DLers that. Let them live with their fantasies.

by Anonymousreply 25June 18, 2021 1:57 AM

It’s so damn white inside they could use it for a hospital.

So boring. There is hardly anything interesting displayed in that whole pile of bricks.

by Anonymousreply 26June 18, 2021 2:01 AM

Did no one notice how WHITE it is inside?

by Anonymousreply 27June 18, 2021 2:17 AM

There is an amazing new invention called paint.

by Anonymousreply 28June 18, 2021 2:45 AM

It's bad. The ceilings are New England low. The renovations including all the boiserie are truly hideous. Laughable.

by Anonymousreply 29June 18, 2021 3:38 AM

I think all of that white paint could drive one to suicide.

by Anonymousreply 30June 18, 2021 5:49 AM

Nice house, but they should try some color.

by Anonymousreply 31June 18, 2021 5:50 AM

Fat Farm Hollywood Regency.

Haha! I know that very umbrella!

I know where this is! I lived in Norwalk and my dad used to make Sunday beer runs(no beer on Sundays in CT back then) to Vista Market so we went by this house quite a bit.

I’m also a proud Silver Hill alum.

by Anonymousreply 34June 18, 2021 6:22 AM

The walk-in closet is bigger than some apartments.

by Anonymousreply 35June 18, 2021 6:38 AM

The interior is so boring that I was sure we'd had this home posted before, but I don't believe we have. They call it "Hollywood elegance" in the description but it's just LA McMansion blandness. If the ceilings weren't so low I'd never have believed it was built before 1990.

by Anonymousreply 36June 18, 2021 6:38 AM

[quote]no beer on Sundays in CT back then

That was only changed a few years ago. Oh, how people in CT used to bitch about no booze sales on Sundays!

by Anonymousreply 37June 18, 2021 6:53 AM

The kitchen is completely impractical.

The stove and oven are one side of the room.

The sink and fridge are on the other.

And there's a giant island between them.

by Anonymousreply 38June 18, 2021 7:22 AM

As white as the people who lived in it.

by Anonymousreply 39June 18, 2021 8:07 AM

All these comments and no one has pointed out the house is named Bluebell Manor? Fantastic!
