WKRP's Herb Tarlek is dead to me!

Frank Bonner played the sleazy salesman on the hit 70s sitcom. He was 79.

Dang I was just going to add him to the “Celebrities you are shocked to learn are still alive” thread!

by Anonymousreply 1June 17, 2021 6:00 PM

Who knew turkeys couldn’t fly….

by Anonymousreply 2June 17, 2021 6:02 PM

I always found him a little hot. Johnny Fever, even moreso.

I know everybody else was hot for Andy, but something about him bugged me despite those stovepipe-legged jeans, which he admittedly filled out quite well.

by Anonymousreply 3June 17, 2021 6:11 PM

I have no idea why, but I just thought of this guy a couple days ago. You didn't see him much after WKRP, which seemed odd. I used to confuse him with Fred Willard and Howard Hesseman with Martin Mull (Fred and Martin both being on Fernwood 2 Night).

by Anonymousreply 4June 17, 2021 6:18 PM

R4, I don't want to upset you, but I was thinking of you a couple a days ago. Just in case, though, I thought I should let you know.

Best of luck?

Poor Gary Sandy. Grammar doesn't seem to be his strong suit.

He said that Frank "pasted" away. With Elmer's, maybe?

by Anonymousreply 6June 17, 2021 7:04 PM

Great show. Great cast. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 7June 17, 2021 7:28 PM

I always thought Herb was hot also.

I always loved the WKRP theme song:

Frank Bonner (born Frank Woodrow Boers Jr., February 28, 1942 – June 16, 2021), 79, was an American actor and television director best known for playing sales manager Herb Tarlek on the television sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati.

Was it just… natural causes?

by Anonymousreply 14June 17, 2021 8:20 PM

Amazingly, he's only the second regular cast member of the series to die. The first was Gordon Jump who played Mr. "Big Guy" Carlson, who died in 2003 at 71.

Others still alive are:

Loni Anderson as Jennifer is 75

Gary Sandy as Andy is 75

Jan Smithers as Bailey is 71

Howard Hesseman as Johnny is 81

Tim Reid as Venus is 77

Richard Sanders as Les is 81

by Anonymousreply 15June 17, 2021 8:26 PM

In her autobiography, "My Life in High Heels", Loni Anderson wrote of her dressing room trysts with Gary Sandy that frequently resulted in rug burns.

by Anonymousreply 16June 17, 2021 8:26 PM

"Real Families" was my favorite WKRP episode. Brilliant stuff.

He had a lesbian daughter.

Didn't she have a breakdown a number of years ago?

Tim Reid posted about Bonner's death.

Has Edie McClurg been reached for comment?

by Anonymousreply 21June 17, 2021 10:52 PM

Susan Dey ....

DOUBLE "oh, dear."

(You missed the second error, R12.)

by Anonymousreply 23June 17, 2021 10:53 PM

Have Loni Anderson's fake boobs commented?

by Anonymousreply 24June 17, 2021 10:57 PM

Gary Sandy's tight jeans will live forever.

I loved the ending song on KRP.

Even if the lyrics made no sense, that sound was just the sound of early 80s rust belt to me.

by Anonymousreply 26June 18, 2021 1:26 AM

[quote]Richard Sanders as Les is 81

Hard to believe that Les and Johnny Fever are the same age. Les seemed like an old man when the show was on.

by Anonymousreply 27June 18, 2021 1:42 AM

He didn’t show moose knuckle and he was forgotten.

Remember, Kids; show bulges early and often.

by Anonymousreply 28June 18, 2021 1:54 AM

DL, you're slipping AGAIN.

Who could forget the episode of The New WKRP in Cincinnatti, in which Herb was pursued by Nicholas Walker, he of the late great 1980s CBS soap Capitol?! There was even hot tub action!

I always liked Herb and Edie McClurg as his wife

by Anonymousreply 31June 19, 2021 9:20 AM

Just watched him on love boat episode yesterday

by Anonymousreply 32June 19, 2021 9:38 AM

Didn't he work on the "Just The 10 Of Us" set as their family priest?

Lots of molestation rumors on that one.

It seems like he disappeared after working there.

by Anonymousreply 33June 19, 2021 10:05 AM

I always found him hot too.

by Anonymousreply 34June 19, 2021 10:21 AM

Gary Sandy’s jeans should be on display in the Museum of Television History.

by Anonymousreply 35June 19, 2021 2:06 PM

I always got him confused with a character actor whose name I don't recall. He was in The Golden Girls episode when Blanche pretends to be selling a Mercedes.

by Anonymousreply 36June 19, 2021 5:23 PM

Tootie and I had a three way with him in Paris!

by Anonymousreply 37June 19, 2021 5:27 PM

R33, he molested The Lubbock Babes?

by Anonymousreply 38June 19, 2021 5:51 PM

Herb was hot

by Anonymousreply 39June 19, 2021 6:05 PM

Herb had definite BDF.

by Anonymousreply 40June 19, 2021 7:20 PM

R3 - His helmet hair always bothered me.

by Anonymousreply 41June 19, 2021 9:12 PM

Gary Sandy was homely
