Can You Find a 5 Star Toaster?

The toaster in my mother’s kitchen lasted for 30 years. It toasted 2 pieces of bread - it didn’t toast one piece a certain color, and then toast the other piece a different color. Bit pieces, same color. It was sturdy without being too heavy. It toasted bread and did so adequately, If they had online reviews back then I would’ve given it 5 stars. So I’ve been looking at various websites today and I can’t find a 5 star toaster except when there’s only one review, or if the reviews were collected as a promo in a giveaway. They’re all too lightweight. None of them evenly brown 2 pieces of bread. They don’t pop up high enough. Bread gets stuck. Crumb trays don’t collect properly, or are impossible to remove & clean. Or they break after 6 months. Someone of these toasters are high priced toasters from well known high end manufacturers…..what catastrophe happened in civilization that caused us to lose the recipe for making adequate toasters? War? Flood? Drought? Fires? Starvation? Volcanic eruption? Asteroid? A near $400 toaster doesn’t get 5 stars.

This is my toaster. It's almost 5 stars and I've had it for 18 months. It's my favorite toaster of all time. $31.76.

ALWAYS check Amazon ratings in Fakespot.

It will tell you whether those 5 star ratings are real or--more often--not.

Mother had a vintage 1950s toaster until a few years ago when it finally crapped out. Even on light setting that thing would nuke your bread. I bet it weighed 10 lbs. Weve been through 3 since then, they all are cheap crap now no matter how much you pay.

They are all crap. I gave up and just use the broiler. It works fine, but yes you have to stand there and watch it and flip it. Not a big deal as I rarely eat bread.

I have a dualit toaster and it’s nice but I don’t know how long it will last.

People must hate toast.

I have one of the pricey Breville tabletop ovens that toasts, broils, bakes, etc. -- lately I get almost no browning at all on the underside of toast. I'd be better off with just a plain toaster.

Bought a fairly high rated, long, double slot Zwilling toaster.

It cooks the center of slices and leaves the edges barely warm. Turn it up til the edges barely tan and the center smokes black.

I sent it back. (Going to buy an old toaster at a yard sale.)

I have a Breville four slice (side by side, not tandem) toaster. It was expensive, but is a tank, an does a great job of toasting evenly.

I still have my mothers used toaster that she gave me when I moved into my first apartment in 1978 when I was 17. Its a Sunbeam and still works perfectly.

My favorite of all the toasters I've ever had is one with a glass window so you can see how brown it is.

Try FaceBook marketplace to see if there are any old models for sale.

I’m pretty happy with my Cuisinart toaster oven that is also an air fryer and convection oven. Haven’t killed it yet.

Best of luck OP. That’s a tough search. I’ve not been happy with toast since the early ‘80s.

OP, if you end up buttering your toast, consider this method. Do it stovetop. Put some butter in a heated pan. Lay your bread down on the melted butter. Let it brown. Voila, delicious toast. Better than a toaster. I've also done this with olive oil.
