Is "Don't Stop Believin'" the most perfect American rock song?

It's got one of the greatest openings in music - maybe the greatest keyboard opening in all of rock. Steve Perry's vocal is scorching. The lyrics are great, capturing rust belt desperation well ahead of "Living on a Prayer".

No, it's not. There are better songs, even if you only consider Journey.

Olivia Newton-John also had a song called Don't Stop Believin' (different than Journey's) and it's also the title of her memoir.

Steve Perry's former girlfriend, Sherrie Swafford, appeared in Perry's 1984 music video "Oh Sherrie". Perry has never been married.
