Why Are There So Many Gay Right-wingers Now?

Yes, there have always been conservative gays, but there now seems to be more of them than ever before. Many of them are at the forefront of the alt-Right movement. WTF happened?

I don’t like mens no more!

by Anonymousreply 1June 14, 2021 6:23 PM

Cause many are white first. There is privilege in and of itself with that. I would say "male" but there are a few lesbians too. And now Caitlyn shows us that you can be trans and Republican too.

by Anonymousreply 2June 14, 2021 6:30 PM

I’m only a right winger insofar as I want a secure border. I’m cool with Medicare for all, cool with higher infrastructure spending, etc. but the Democrats’ immigration position is insane.

If Uncle Joe builds a wall I’ll vote Democrat up and down the ballot.

by Anonymousreply 3June 14, 2021 6:31 PM

It's not a sudden influx of "more of them", they are just getting bolder and bolder to share their true thoughts, this is on par with the rise of Trump, Bannon, Proud Boys...

by Anonymousreply 4June 14, 2021 6:37 PM

Perhaps because their sexuality is just a part of who they are. It doesn't totally define them.

by Anonymousreply 5June 14, 2021 6:37 PM

White men are vilified by the left, so that's what you get.

by Anonymousreply 6June 14, 2021 6:41 PM

r5 that IS true. When you really look at it, the gays have gotten what they wanted in terms of rights, including marriage. After this, it is what else apart from my sexuality, do I value?

by Anonymousreply 7June 14, 2021 6:42 PM

Some of them have daddy issues like OP's little kween Darren Grimes. They think there's some mystical strong man power in "conservativism". The same thing can be said for the Senatrice.

And then there are the rich white ones with their privilege that just want the tax cuts. They've got their gay marriage (for now, until this Supreme Court goes after it) so who gives two shits about the rest of us.

by Anonymousreply 8June 14, 2021 6:46 PM

Just because we have gay marriage now doesn't mean that it can't be snatched away

by Anonymousreply 9June 14, 2021 6:47 PM

There are legitimate reflexively conservative gay people out there - Guy Benson, on Fox News, and Charles Murray would be a good example of this type. I would wager that twenty years ago, guys like them probably would not be “out”.

But I think there is a specific type of attention-addicted edgelord that has become attracted to the low/no-barrier to an audience platform that being gay and a “sticking it to the libs” internet conservative gives them. This sort of conservatism seems to attract a lot of failed performers/writers and train wrecks with daddy issues who blame LGBT inc. and Nancy Pelosi for their personal shortcomings.

by Anonymousreply 10June 14, 2021 7:00 PM

If you don’t tow the line completely—you have to be pro-Islam, pro-trans, anti-Jew—if you’re not, then you’re all kinds of terrible things—rightwing is just apart. But those are just words.

by Anonymousreply 11June 14, 2021 7:00 PM

*toe

by Anonymousreply 12June 14, 2021 7:00 PM
there are the rich white ones with their privilege that just want the tax cuts

This isn't just white people back in the 80's anyone middle class and above in the Black community became more about their money than any social ideology they held. My father was a business owner born during the depression in the South and i know for a fact he voted for Reagan, twice.

Now he is in his 90's and hates Donald Trump and Ted Cruise. I'm sure her never thinks about the fact that his support of Reagan and any other Republican led us right to this moment.

by Anonymousreply 13June 14, 2021 7:05 PM
This sort of conservatism seems to attract a lot of failed performers/writers and train wrecks with daddy issues. . .

Great observation, I wish someone would write about this.

by Anonymousreply 14June 14, 2021 7:07 PM

True R13, it's not just white people with money that want the tax cuts. The thing that gets me, though, is that they don't want to pay a nickel in taxes but they still expect all of the government services to be there. Shit needs to be paid for--do people not seem to grasp that concept???

by Anonymousreply 15June 14, 2021 7:07 PM

There aren't more, they are just more comfortable coming out. Why they don't see the inherent conflict is beyond me.

by Anonymousreply 16June 14, 2021 7:08 PM

Because the Left-wingers have wokely and progressively gone off the deep end and politics only works when there's a balance.

by Anonymousreply 17June 14, 2021 7:12 PM

Because they use multiple sock puppet accounts in social media and sites like DL to falsify their numbers and make it seem like there's more of them.

by Anonymousreply 18June 14, 2021 7:12 PM

I have not and would not vote Republican, but it’s easy to feel pushed out of the gay community. Cis white gay men have become of the enemy within LGBTQ groups. We are seen as overly privileged and complacent in our politics.

Even Pride can’t be fun anymore.

I vote democrat because I believe in universal healthcare, higher education for all, programs to help those in need, etc. I don’t vote Democrat out of any allegiance to the gay community- at least not anymore.

by Anonymousreply 19June 14, 2021 7:12 PM
Cis white gay men have become of the enemy within LGBTQ groups

You’ll get no sympathy here. That’s just reality of this site.

by Anonymousreply 20June 14, 2021 7:14 PM

Definition of right-winger: anyone who disagrees with you.

by Anonymousreply 21June 14, 2021 7:23 PM

That's true r18.

The fact that we no longer have an independent press means we cannot take anything we read at face value. People are very susceptible to influence through media, keep repeating something enough and it becomes like a virus, it spreads and becomes fact when it really is just bullshit.

It goes all the way back to KKK Karl Rove during the Iraq invasion after 911, he made a couple of very telling comments "We are the deciders." (or was that Bush II?) and "We make reality, reality is what we say it is.") Or something to that effect. They knew they were going to use the media to shape the public's idea about what was happening. It's been a lot of gaslighting and suggestion.

It is wise to search through alternative news sources to get other view points and information. I know people are going to whine about not having time to do this, okay sure. Just remember your time crunch the next time you are scrolling through insta or twitter.

by Anonymousreply 22June 14, 2021 7:27 PM

The most shocking thing is that they’re not just latching on to the Right-wing, but the far-Right-wing. It’s crazy.

by Anonymousreply 23June 14, 2021 7:28 PM
If Uncle Joe builds a wall I’ll vote Democrat up and down the ballot.

Isn’t building a wall simply not feasible? There are land issues and money issues.

by Anonymousreply 24June 14, 2021 7:29 PM
Definition of right-winger: anyone who disagrees with you.

Sorry, but no. Sure, there are people who jump the gun with that, but there are many gays who are self-avowed Trump cultists.

by Anonymousreply 25June 14, 2021 7:30 PM

A lot of the richer gays were begrudgingly lefty when it was gay marriage that was the issue. Now that they have theirs, it's time for the poors to shut the fuck up and go back to their shitty $9/hr jobs and stop whining about fairness and equity and all that.

And the browns can shut the fuck up too. A few of them being killed by cops is a small price to pay for the continuation of their rising home values.

by Anonymousreply 26June 14, 2021 7:32 PM

I’ve followed the numbers on non-Democrat gays over the last twenty years. There’s not a big variation. I think the internet/social media is causing you to be confused about reality. Non-Democrat gays are more vocal in the era of social media. The stances of each party, culture and political climate have changed. The GOP has become more blatantly libertarian, the Democrat Party is more reflective of its “Woke” base. That means ‘more authoritarian and anti-White. All of you remember the “warm welcome” Pete Buttigieg received. The base’s hostility is very apparent in many lgbt publications, singling out gay white males as the constant villain of the lgbt world. Anyone with a brain can see the writing on the wall.

by Anonymousreply 27June 14, 2021 7:35 PM
Sorry, but no.

Sorry, but yeah. And not only that, posters here make shit up about other posters so posters blindly FF them to get them banned. I’ve been accused of starting threads with the “N-word”, threads about “fake news”, accused of calling posters the n-word—it’s crazy the type of lying here to brigade posters.

by Anonymousreply 28June 14, 2021 7:38 PM
Cis white gay men have become of the enemy within LGBTQ groups.

I have seen no evidence of this but I could imagine if you are white, or conservative (both) or if you have no tolerance for minority issues, you are sick of hearing about it and could be feeling attacked every time it comes up. This would lead you to feel left out and resentful, this would inflame your intolerance even more because where are you in all this bleeding heart bullshit about minorities, women and trans?

I'll tell you where you are, in the back waiting your turn, just like all those groups have had to do for far too long. Have some patience, find your fucking humanity, have some trust that your gay brothers and sisters of whatever variety won't ever forget you as long as you are willing to show some support for the rest of us. There is no reason that we all can't be a community, all it takes is for us to not attack each other and show support.

And in closing. . .

by Anonymousreply 29June 14, 2021 7:38 PM

I think it's becoming easier to be openly gay in conservative spaces. Like you said, OP, there have always been conservative gays, but they're starting to be have the option to be out, since having a token gay ally can be beneficial for some right-wingers.

by Anonymousreply 30June 14, 2021 7:41 PM

Some people will say and do anything for attention.

Ex., Caitlin Jenner wants to be relevant and be on TV.

by Anonymousreply 31June 14, 2021 7:43 PM

The stances of each party, culture and political climate have changed. The GOP has become more blatantly libertarian, the Democrat Party is more reflective of its “Woke” base.

r27, I think this is key and not fully understood: we are in the midst of a considerable shift in how people define conservative/Republicans and liberal/Democrats, neither are what they were just ten years ago. And that means certain people traditionally aligned with one group are moving over to the other, and vice-versa.

by Anonymousreply 32June 14, 2021 7:45 PM

I think many gays are disgusted with the Left's refusal to stand up to the Trans Tyranny.

by Anonymousreply 33June 14, 2021 7:47 PM
The GOP has become more blatantly libertarian

This is false and a common misconception. Certainly the rise of Trump was a shift away from libertarianism. Democrats have in fact become more libertarian as they assume more power. I'm a gay man whose whiteness is relative and whose never been fond of the GOP, however the rise of the institutional left has scared me away from the prospect of one party rule. The Repubs will ally themselves with the people only because they are on the losing side, but I don't doubt that they are just as corrupt when they take the reigns of power.

by Anonymousreply 34June 14, 2021 7:50 PM

Libertarian??? They're looking for a full-blown theocracy!!!

by Anonymousreply 35June 14, 2021 7:56 PM

R32 - R27 here - You nailed it. Perfect summary of the current political climate. A few weeks ago, Carlson Tucker had a guest on that new show he hosts. He said that “conservative” is no longer an accurate term for those of of us in the GOP camp. R33 - I agree that the the new “culture wars”, has made some take a second look and reflect on their political alliances. I can vouch for this based on a few personal examples I’m close to.

by Anonymousreply 36June 14, 2021 8:00 PM

Gays can be the most cold and mean people connected to petty issues that in the end don’t protect basic rights. Think Roy Cohn, Hoover, Miss Graham. Trump and Republicans of the moment are suited for that kind of bullshit. As for it being white men, remember Trump won votes of color in November than he had four years earlier. There are always Jews who will turn in other Jews to the Nazis-“Kapos.

Also, next to middle school girls, gay men have always left me with the impression that “ I have mine. You get yours.” That is the theme song of Republican party. And as Toni Morrison said they will put all outsiders on a bus if they want too. Gay people are still outsiders.

by Anonymousreply 37June 14, 2021 8:01 PM

The Republican Party is the big tent party. There's room for gay Nazis, black Nazis, hispanic Nazis, women Nazis, new age anti-vax Nazis, and on and on.

Isn't some annoyance with what AOC said or some trans thing or other culture war bullshit small potatoes vs. LOSING OUR FUCKING DEMOCRACY?

by Anonymousreply 38June 14, 2021 8:02 PM

I learned long ago that you can't always rely on white women and white gays to do the right thing. The happiness of white men directly impacts white women's pocketbooks, so it's in their interest to keep them providing. White gays, OTOH, are thirsty for acceptance so they'll sell their community down the river if need be.

by Anonymousreply 39June 14, 2021 8:03 PM

r10, I think you meant Douglas Murray, not Charles Murray.

by Anonymousreply 40June 14, 2021 8:09 PM
If Uncle Joe builds a wall I’ll vote Democrat up and down the ballot

Trump didn't build a wall he built 47 miles of new wall that is all in four years, his overriding main campaign pledge and the main reason people voted for him and he built 47 miles of wall, a wall people can still climb over and tunnel under.
A March 2021 review of the Trump work on the wall found only 47 miles (76 km) of new barriers where none had previously existed.

Only federal elected officials have any control over a border wall, but it appears you won't vote for any local Democrat because of what Federally elected officials do, that makes zero sense.

Sometimes I wonder who they dumm dumms are who come onto the DL to post such transparent bullshit like R32.

Was the attack of 1/6 "libertarian"? How is Marjorie Taylor Greene "libertarian"? How is robbing black people of their right to vote "libertarian"?

There is no sense in which the GOP is at all libertarian. It's a pile of paranoid fascists.

by Anonymousreply 42June 14, 2021 8:18 PM

Bravo 42

by Anonymousreply 43June 14, 2021 8:23 PM

Not r32...

But, there is a wing of the rethugs who are libertarians - Rand Paul et al. - and there is an overlap of some of the professed ideologies with regard to the whole "bootstraps" and self-made rhetoric. Both want lower taxes and not to pay for social programs or anything that doesn't benefit them personally.

They subscribe to the Ayn Rand/John Galt notion that the exceptional are held back by the mediocre - as they all believe they are exceptional, contrary to all evidence otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 44June 14, 2021 8:33 PM

On a separate note from my reply at r44, I'd argue that the rise of right wing gays is a reflection of both the lack of struggle for a place in society, coupled with narcissism reflected by social media.

Finally, there is an underlying selfishness and lack of empathy - the scream Who Moved My Cheese.

They feel entitled to be fabulous and blame the usual suspects for preventing them from being so without understanding that nothing about them has ever been or ever will be fabulous.

by Anonymousreply 45June 14, 2021 8:35 PM

R31 answered the question very succinctly

by Anonymousreply 46June 14, 2021 8:40 PM

I have also wondered this myself OP but I'm only going by what I see here. It's been upsetting me. I wonder what it's like in other countries.

Will there even be a gay community in the near future?

by Anonymousreply 47June 14, 2021 8:47 PM

I gave up forever on Democrats when it became clear that Obama was not going to lift a finger to get Merrick Garland confirmed to the Supreme Court. That was the capitulation that sealed the deal for me, after 8 years of him doing absolutely nothing in the face of obstruction. And sure enough Democrats have proven time and time again since then to be wholly incompetent and useless EXCEPT when they are screwing over Bernie Sanders. Then they suddenly get it together. Anything to make sure that someone from Obama's cabinet or administration has the nomination. HOW WILL WE GET BLACK VOTERS IF THERE IS NO DIRECT OBAMA TIE IN?!!!?1

by Anonymousreply 48June 14, 2021 9:58 PM

They think it will make their fathers love them.

by Anonymousreply 49June 14, 2021 10:24 PM

Because their sexuality doesn't define their personality. LGBTQIA+ is more tired than the perpetually exhausted Roxanne Gay.

by Anonymousreply 50June 14, 2021 10:55 PM

I suppose there may be Repigs who *are libertarian, R44, but those same "libertarian" elected officials happily back more militarized police, a bigger carceral state, less free speech for people they don't like (socialists, Palestinians, irritating young people). Basically their libertarianism is more or less garden-variety Republican hatred of the welfare state and not a lot more.

So forgive me if I think their John Galt posturing is so much bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 51June 14, 2021 11:10 PM

I have an alt-right, red-pilled gay in my network. He posts in his Instagram stories a mix of QAnon and adjacent nonsense, ridiculous interpretations of mainstream news and images supporting enlightenment—often with the popcorn box gif superimposed when the news supports the prophecy suggesting he knows what’s coming and he will sit back and watch.

He is a quite successful self-avowed Pose watcher. Both he and his partner are B to A gays living a happy life with friends and family. If you looked at only his Instagram posts, you’d think he’s normal. The stories are so strange two thoughts come to mind.

One, it’s performance art. He’s curious how friends will react to such content. Two, he’s is and has always been a Brandon Stroka-level douche. The former would be brilliant; the latter sad.

by Anonymousreply 52June 14, 2021 11:12 PM

They're not

by Anonymousreply 53June 14, 2021 11:12 PM

There goes Boris @ R21 again, attempting to equate Fake News and his racist, homophobic, corrupting agenda full of cosmetic proposals and selling the government to Russian mobsters as “just a disagreement.”

Get used to losing elections, fuckwad.

by Anonymousreply 54June 14, 2021 11:14 PM

Because the world outside of your bubble is diverse. There are as many conservative gays as there are progressive ones and all around the world, this witness angle is just stupidity of insular Americans.

The Caribbean in particular is full of black gays that are conservative, same in Latin America. This question is so basic is like asking why there are humans a certain way.

by Anonymousreply 55June 14, 2021 11:15 PM

it pays well.

by Anonymousreply 56June 14, 2021 11:17 PM

Because, with social media, they have an audience.

by Anonymousreply 57June 14, 2021 11:19 PM

No pronouns in bio = literally Hitler. Pink News has become a vile rag long ago.

by Anonymousreply 58June 14, 2021 11:19 PM

Most people vote for the candidate who they think will be best for them. The Democrats haven’t done a good job marketing to high earners. If the Dems want this demographic, they have to stop screwing them over.

by Anonymousreply 59June 14, 2021 11:20 PM

It’s not about white entitlement. It’s that the culture is demonizing white people now. There’s so much blatant hostility toward white people everywhere and it’s getting a free pass. Fighting racism with racism is fucking uncool.

by Anonymousreply 60June 14, 2021 11:22 PM

Party-supported racism

by Anonymousreply 61June 14, 2021 11:23 PM
If the Dems want this demographic, they have to stop screwing them over.

If the American people want nice things, like say, an infrastructure bill--said nice things need to be paid for somehow (ie, raising taxes on the super wealthy who won't even notice it). Republicans keep cutting taxes but promising things that aren't paid for, they just put it on the country's credit card (national debt). Let's review a few of the big ones--two wars (Iraq and Afghanistan) that were not paid for and tax cuts under Bush and Trump that exploded the deficit. Obama tried to get things under control spending-wise, but Trump came in and spent like a drunken sailor (which is what he did in business, hence all of his bankruptcies).

by Anonymousreply 62June 14, 2021 11:25 PM

It's the middle class, not the wealthy, that Dems are having more trouble with R59. Their messaging is geared towards "juicing' minority' turnout (where the did worse last year" as well as energizing liberal whites.

Agree with R62 that Rs have no real solutions, just word salad talking points.

Finally... anyone else find the terms "repigs" and "repukes" as childish as I do? I've seen them at other sites as well.

by Anonymousreply 63June 15, 2021 12:14 AM
Because their sexuality doesn't define their personality. LGBTQIA+ is more tired than the perpetually exhausted Roxanne Gay.

More like desire to keep their white privilege far outweighs any allegiance to a marginalized community that has had its power usurped by the least significant group in the alphabet soup.

by Anonymousreply 64June 15, 2021 12:18 AM

I didn't care about Republicans until Trump. Part of the reason he was appealing was because he was anti establishment. He defeated both the Clinton and Bush dynasties. Neither will ever come back. Biden is riding the Obama wave but people forget that Obama himself was nearly as polarizing as Bush Jr, but was subject to fawning media coverage. I liked that Trump asked other countries to pay their fair share, made illegal immigration an issue, was for fair trade, and being energy independent. The fact that he opposed wokeness was just the cherry on top.

Again, he is not a libertarian. Libertarians are for free trade and unlimited immigration.

by Anonymousreply 65June 15, 2021 1:45 AM

R48 is a classic example of misdirection trolling. Republicans stole a Supreme Court seat and this troll wants you to blame the Democrats and stop voting for them. Who does that help? The Nazi Republicans. Same thing going in the McConnell SC thread. I guess that's the trolling script for this week.

R54: The fact that the troll you responded to has 12 WWs shows something is SERIOUSLY wrong on this site. There is an element that is spamming this place with garbage and electronically sucking each other off to make themselves appear popular. Just like at the UK Muslim bashing thread for more evidence.

by Anonymousreply 66June 15, 2021 1:54 AM

Because the left went bat shit crazy and doesn't represent me in any way.

by Anonymousreply 67June 15, 2021 1:58 AM

I’m an older white CIS gay male. I did very well in a corporate structure and ended up wealthy. I vividly remember life in the 70s and being chased from gay bars by police with batons. I don’t trust any government agency or political party. I’ve never missed an election and have always voted for the Democrats as a better choice than the Republicans. I have to be honest that these days, I just don’t give a shit. It’s a young person’s world to fight any political battles. I’m going to drift off into the sunset with a certain knowledge that I thought I made the right decisions given what I knew about the world. I suspect that is why there maybe more conservative gays. They trust the current structures and haven’t seen that there is still a lot of hatred out there for gay folk. I’m sure some will very shortly accuse me of having internalized homophobia in 3.2.1…

by Anonymousreply 68June 15, 2021 2:06 AM

What's wrong with that? people have different views including gay men.

by Anonymousreply 69June 15, 2021 2:12 AM

Dems are the party of tech billionaires, bureaucratic drones, and the woke brigade.

They have nothing but condescension if not contempt for small businesses and the working class and their concerns.

Yes, there are white and every other color of working class gay men who are not fans of uberclass efforts to marginalize and divide us..

by Anonymousreply 70June 15, 2021 3:06 AM

r70 you are an idiot. The GOP cares nothing about small businesses. Do you really honestly think tech billionaires are democrats? Check who they donate to. The Dem is the party of the working class. If we had universal health care, small businesses would not have to worry about paying benefits. If we had renewable energy, a healthy infrastructure and internet everywhere - small businesses could reach across the globe to market and sell their products. The Dems are not dividing us. The GOP are. Any gay man who goes with a party whose open, posted platform is to remove rights for LGBTQIA folks...is a fucking self loathing idioit. LIke Trump who got a badly scribbed gays for trump Pride flag on the campaign trail. He loves the gays...just don't fly thier flags on any public building, or give them meds foir hiv in the army, or let trans people serve, or buy a fucking wedding cake.....

R71 renewable energy does not generate enough savings. Maybe one day. And we should be focused on building a customer base at home and supporting local businesses including those that provide human interaction. Consumers should participate in the free market. We shouldn’t have a system where google and Amazon get to pick the winners and losers and where multinationals profit from China at the expense of Americans.

by Anonymousreply 73June 15, 2021 4:38 AM
Why Are There So Many Gay Right-wingers Now?

Attention seeking.

by Anonymousreply 74June 15, 2021 5:14 AM

The same reason that Latinos and Asians (mostly 1st gen immigrants) are voting more conservatively. The current mainstream Democrats are pandering to BLM and trans rights instead of on practical issues. As another thread said, promoting race-based policy is deterrent to getting support for legislation that can help the working and middle-class, which encompasses every race and includes the majority of the citizenry.

by Anonymousreply 75June 15, 2021 5:20 AM

I'm a proud gay conservative and always have been. We're allowed to have our own opinion when it comes to politics. I owed for Trump in 2016 and 2020 and I would do it again in a heartbeat. If that upsets people on the so-called "tolerant" left, so be it.

by Anonymousreply 76June 15, 2021 5:23 AM

Ooooops....I meant I voted (not owed) LOL

by Anonymousreply 77June 15, 2021 5:24 AM

Reading through some of these responses is mind-boggling. Some of you must be living under a rock and need to get out more. Not all gays are Democrats. I have tons of gay Republican friends. It's not a crime. We don't all think a like -- so the F what! If your whole life revolves around ALL THING GAY perhaps it is YOU that is the problem.

by Anonymousreply 80June 15, 2021 5:34 AM

Most posting on here are right wing or posing as liberals with a greater empathy and understanding of the right wing.

by Anonymousreply 81June 15, 2021 5:56 AM

Trump and the Republicans said nothing and did nothing that would ever accomplish the bullshit posted by r73.

They did, however, pass another tax break for the wealthy creating more incentives for U.S. companies to outsource U.S. manufacturing jobs overseas.

The Trump platform was all bullshit and lip service that only got a fringe of white trash Deplorables riled up enough to vote for it because they're naive, uneducated and blasted with false messaging on Facebook, Breitbart, Fox News, etc.

But there just weren't enough of those suckers to win past 2016. Most of Trump's promises were quickly broken, blocked by his own party, proven insufficient and exposed as con-jobs just as Trump was exposed as an absentee President with no genuine interest in doing the job while profiteering personally from it as much as he could. The voters saw there is no "THERE there" and the Trump scam unraveled.

Gays for Trump also collapsed when Trump betrayed all of his promises and lip service to the LGBT community, appointing a bunch of homophobes and wiping out programs, protections and inclusion for gays in government policies.

Get a load of all these betrayals against LGBT the instant Trump actually squeaked into office without the popular vote:

I said something similar in another post, but to reiterate: Gay male, 40s, and totally middle of the road politically (not right-wing). I think health care should be universal, minimum wage should be raised and the super-rich should be taxed much more than they are now.

However, I also believe immigration should be strictly curtailed to people who have something to offer this country professionally, intellectually or economically, as well as refugees who are in danger in their homeland. And I also think voting should require an I.D.

Trans MTFs should not be allowed to participate in women's sports, or be allowed in women's safe spaces. Not sure how to deal with the problem of Trans in certain spaces (maybe single occupant restrooms, locker rooms, et cetera) but biological men have a physical advantage over (most) women, and opening places traditionally reserved for biological women is dangerous.

The bullshit laws being passed to restrict poor and minority voting in many states are the very antithesis of Democracy. The fact that so many Repug politicians are trying so hard to stop people from voting says they're running scared.

I like Biden, but I don't think he's the sharpest knife in the drawer. But I believe he is sincere.

Every single fucking traitor who "stormed the Capitol deserves to be jailed for at least 20 years, and that includes all the repub politicians and "celebs" who urged them on, and also all of trump's sycophants and cronies.

Gay men are not a monolith, we have differing opinions about diverse issues, but those of us who don't fall in lockstep with certain issues are always labelled "right-wingers."

by Anonymousreply 84June 15, 2021 6:08 AM

You say something similar all the time, Boris @ r84.

But the facts always remain and always prove you're lying.

The fact remains that Obama deported more illegal immigrants per year than Trump did. Trump's wall was just a symbol that never would have worked and his own party didn't allow it. By taking resources and focus off the investigative work law enforcement does within the U.S., deportations went down.

Even if Trump had managed to deport or prevent more illegal immigration than Obama, the Deplorables would have quickly discovered they still don't have great wages, benefits, job security or manufacturing jobs that don't require education thanks to the outsourcing, union-busting and benefit slashing committed viciously by commercial predators and their puppets in the government, ESPECIALLY Trump and Romney.

It was all a lie and that's why the Republican Party has lost the working class and control of the government.

This obsession people here have with transgenders isn't healthy. They're a very tiny minority and I barely hear about them in real life.

by Anonymousreply 87June 15, 2021 6:26 AM

OP, you'll need to define what you mean by right winger.

Douglas Murray is not a right winger. Do you mean anyone who disagrees with today's left?

There are many centrist or conservative black commentators who I don't think are right wing but they are certainly conservative on some issues.

If it seems like there are more people disagreeing with the left - which used to be fairly sane and just liberal - it is because the new left is bonkers. There are many people today who refer to themselves as former-lefties but they are just sane liberals who have said enough. The new left have no workable solutions.

And the censorship/cancellation whole thing has turned a lot of people off. FAR left and FAR right are both taking a hit in popularity. It takes a while for the saner voices to get heard.

by Anonymousreply 88June 15, 2021 6:26 AM

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

by Anonymousreply 89June 15, 2021 6:43 AM

It's because the far left has gone totally insane -- defending the police, boys in dresses competing against girls, Critical Race Theory, wokeism, and cancel culture. Even people who have escaped North Korea and Mao's China have said the far left reminds them of what they've escaped.

by Anonymousreply 90June 15, 2021 6:45 AM

Look, there are gullible gays. They have limited critical thinking abilities. They believe the election was "stolen" and that the call was "perfect". There are gay rubes as well as straight rubes. Some are religious, too, and believe all sorts of bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 91June 15, 2021 6:57 AM

The far left is insane, but the enemy of my enemy is not my friend.

by Anonymousreply 92June 15, 2021 6:59 AM

Because cancel culture and freedom of speech are in jeopardy. The far left are now the enemy of white gay men. Pride has become something entirely different than what it used to stand for.

You might not like Trump, but he was very transparent, and has been correct about a lot of things since he left office. The far left and far right are out of control, I absolutely hate identity politics and this victimization narrative. In the last year we have seen a huge rise in crime due to defunding the police, giving carte blanch to every minority. I think we need to control the border and think about America's best interests first. The left are trying to divide us for a reason. Now they are turning on themselves. It's so depressing.

by Anonymousreply 93June 15, 2021 6:59 AM

There are a lot of problems in defining terms. We have a lot of idiots above describing Republicans as Libertarians. No, the libertarians have been driven out by the Republicans ((Justin Amash, for example). A huge number of Republicans have indicated in polls that they are in favor of an authoritarian government. For example, among panelists who reported voting for Trump in the 2020 election, almost half score in the highest quartile of the Right Wing Authoritarianism (RWA) scale when the original survey weights from the 2019 survey are applied. What does that mean in practical terms? It means that they are in favor of overturning a legitimate and fair election by any means possible - including invading the Capitol.

If any gay person supports the Republican party, he should take a look at the Republican platform, which for 40 YEARS has been against anything remotely resembling gay rights - against gay marriage, in favor of outlawing gay behavior (sodomy laws), against protections for gay people in housing, education, medical care, and employment. There isn't anything remotely resembling a unified left wing position on "wokeness", on immigration, on transgender issues. The fact that you have James Carville and AOC in the same party should speak volumes to anyone paying attention. But I know this thread, like the one on Muslims in the US is a trolling thread. Amateurish at that.

by Anonymousreply 94June 15, 2021 7:17 AM

Bottom line for me is a vote for The GOP in 2020 and beyond is a vote for cementing one party minority rule, religious intrusion into every aspect of civil society, and desecrating our right to vote and have our votes counted going forward even if we do. It’s fascism people. The end of the line. I don’t want to live like that. Many of your gripes about the Democratic Party or the far left (um, we don’t have anything remotely like that in this country) should be heard, but we’re now in a state of emergency and every effort must be made to stop the Republicans from destroying forever our way of life.

by Anonymousreply 95June 15, 2021 7:35 AM

Useful idiots.

by Anonymousreply 96June 15, 2021 7:37 AM

Amen

by Anonymousreply 97June 15, 2021 7:38 AM

r93 is a prime example of a complete lack of critical thinking skills. In their small mind crime has risen because of imaginary defunding of police (which hasn't happened) instead of a near year long lockdown and quarantine that had fewer people out and about coming to an end.

by Anonymousreply 98June 15, 2021 7:47 AM

Because the left now champions medicalized gay conversion therapy.

Heterosexual women with radical double mastectomies and cartoon porn addictions are not gay men. Effeminate gay men are not women. Butch lesbians are not men. Middle aged incels who can’t nut unless they’re wearing lipstick are not lesbians. Sterilizing gay and lesbian children is a human rights crime and the Democrats are doing everything they can to erase all of the sex based rights that LGB fought and died for over decades. No sane gay person could possibly support the monstrosity the current Democratic party has become.

by Anonymousreply 101June 15, 2021 11:03 AM

If the converse is to tacitly agree with self-avowed communists, then call me a right winger.

I have nothing in common with trannies and Queers. Every time I see one of those hideous new “pride” flags it makes me angry. Sexuality is not a racial issue (unless you’re actually going to call out black homophobia, which they never do, but instead the “sexual racism” of white instahos not fucking every black tranny that hits them up on grindr).

There was a March here in Chicago led by black trannies. I have a “queer” colleague (read: communist white girl with odd hair color and exclusively fucks men) who wished me happy pride and asked if I was taking part in any activities. When I said “nah we’re already gay married” it’s like I committed this sin.

If I’m not for “freeing Palestine,” or defunding the police, or saying black trans lives > 50 white frauen lives then I’m a winger. Nah.

Just like racism has always existed but white gays never even acknowledged it until Trump won.

The left considers the middle of the road as right wing Republicans. The far left and far right have more in common than they care to admit. The middle of the road voters (or swing voters) are the ones who decide elections.

by Anonymousreply 107June 15, 2021 12:56 PM

I have been saying for a while, R90, that liberal Dem groupthink is more and more resembling Cultural Revolution dunce cap "struggle sessions" mixed in with "J'accuse!" of Reign of Terror.

The term "Boris" indicates someone incredibly invested in a partisan Dem identity with a weak hold on reality.

by Anonymousreply 108June 15, 2021 12:58 PM

Perhaps because the far left is just as rabid and nuts as the far right and there's nowhere else to go

by Anonymousreply 109June 15, 2021 1:01 PM

It's not so many "now," there have always been gay conservatives because gays are male, and men have been more conservative than women since polling for these kinds of things began.

Also, with respect, Dataloungers aren't the brightest or happiest people in the world, so there's going to be a conservative lean here because that's just how cranky 65-year-old men with the beginnings of cognitive decline work. The quick soundbite GOP lies like "Democrats want open borders" and "black on black crime" appeal to that kind of person because it gives them a quick answer that makes every problem somebody else's fault.

Finally, a lot of the trolling here makes it look like there are more Repugs than there are. Repugs WW themselves 25-30 times sometimes, Matt A. clearly has multiple accounts for his spamming, and so did that guy who posted a bunch of poop-themed threads about a month ago. Some of those trolls aren't gay but they'll halfheartedly pretend they are.

by Anonymousreply 110June 15, 2021 1:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 111June 15, 2021 1:18 PM

I love this idea that the left has gone crazy. Have you seen the right in the U.S.? Seriously, do you see sanity and reason and calmness when you look at the right wing in this country?

by Anonymousreply 112June 15, 2021 1:19 PM

Darren Grimes is neither far right nor alt-right. Anyone who thinks he is simply doesn’t know what they are talking about.

The UK is NOTHING like the US. Most people here sit either slightly to the left or right of centre. A far right mentality is vanishingly small. Until recently so was a far left one but since the authoritarian cult known as “SWJ” or “Woke” and the new religion of Anti-Racism, many left leaners are turning right for a bit of common sense.

The Labour party under Kier Starmer is currently unelectable & it’s almost entirely due to his bandwagoning & appeasement of the Twitter mob.

And, as a gay man, I deeply resent the notion that I have to think/vote the way you decide. No thank you.

by Anonymousreply 113June 15, 2021 1:30 PM

It's funny people think turning away from the Democrats automatically makes you conservative? I mean the only political opinion I follow online is Lady Bunny. She's extremely critical of Biden and the Democrats from the left and certainly not conservative at all.

by Anonymousreply 114June 15, 2021 1:45 PM

The fact of the matter is the GOP embraces the Christian Right who are working actively to have homosexuality and gay people classified as second-class citizens. It is in the GOP agenda to repeal gay marriage, to oppose gay adoption, and to teach that we actively indoctrinate children. It's like being Black but saying "you know I really agree with the KKK." Get your fucking heads out of your asses. The GOP actively opposes your very existence.

by Anonymousreply 115June 15, 2021 1:51 PM

Many of you still think of the Republican party as that of 2011, not 2021:

For the First Time, a Small Majority of Republicans Support Gay Marriage

Republicans, who have consistently been the party group least in favor of same-sex marriage, show majority support in 2021 for the first time (55%). The latest increase in support among all Americans is driven largely by changes in Republicans' views.
The Labour party under Kier Starmer is currently unelectable & it’s almost entirely due to his bandwagoning & appeasement of the Twitter mob.

Labour is unelectable due solely to its enthusiastic embrace of Jew hatred. It's no different to the Germany's National Socialists or the BNP. While Labour apologists might turn a blind eye, the Brit voter is nowhere near as blind.

There is definitely a weird, crypto-fascist, white-supremacist strain in certain gay circles - this has been going on since at least WWII and is now surfacing among the alt-right. Modern day incarnations are people like Richard Spencer (clearly gay) and Benny Johnson (also gay, I suspect). Just look at their physical appearance and their style with their crewcuts/fade haircuts and everything. Luchino Visconti would make a great movie about these folks.

by Anonymousreply 120June 15, 2021 2:23 PM

R113 - Don’t believe the hype. There is no “far right” threat in the U.S. Social media is making acknowledgment of reality impossible here. What we’re experiencing is a corporate takeover from the Left. They use the “white supremacist” bogeyman/anti-racism to shut down all opposition.

by Anonymousreply 121June 15, 2021 2:24 PM

Fair enough R121. The same thing is happening here.

by Anonymousreply 122June 15, 2021 2:35 PM

R121 is either typing from 1955 or he's a rightwing nut himself.

There is indeed a far right threat in the U.S. -- rightwing Republicans are destroying voting rights in evert state they can, election officials are being hounded out of their jobs by wing nuts, and Trump's judges are just beginning what will be a multi-decade reign of terror.

Democracy in America is probably over. Thanks to the far right.

What is it you hate?

Because I think it's that you're mad that American capitalism doesn't care about your money anymore. No one sells to bitchy old people. The culture is concentrating on people young enough to be your grandchild and you can't stand to not be the center of attention.

That and mild racism.

by Anonymousreply 138June 15, 2021 6:13 PM

If it's at the workplace, its to try and avoid lawsuits resulting from shitty behavior from higher-ups.

There's no laws anywhere enforcing this. In America, you're as free to be as racist as you want.

by Anonymousreply 150June 15, 2021 7:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 153June 15, 2021 7:18 PM

You see how hard Americans can be isolated from the rest of the world when there are some many people associating a guy like Biden – which is viewed by the majority of the developed world as a moderate center-left politician – to the far left.

by Anonymousreply 154June 15, 2021 7:20 PM
If it's at the workplace, its to try and avoid lawsuits resulting from shitty behavior from higher-ups.

It's being mandated at the workplace. Government workers are required to take these courses as part of their training. Ironically, immigrant applicants have the most difficult time with these exams which they use to screen potential employees. For many it's not just their job that's at risk, but their entire livelihoods. Even well intentioned people have to apologize for "colorism" or whatever the new buzz word of the day is. A lot of qualified individuals are being forced to compromise their ethics by referring to individuals by plural pronouns or affirm peoples' mental illnesses. Police assume much greater risk when detaining suspects, and many are quitting the force. Higher education has become woke central, producing graduates who are overeducated and woked to the max.

I care more about all of that then I do a community or business that is religious. At least people are free to worship whoever they want and the topic of religion is generally no one else's business.

by Anonymousreply 155June 15, 2021 7:21 PM

The majority of the Americans who claim Biden is far left are either really really dumb, or they know he's not, they've just become habituated to labelling every Democrat as a far leftie because it works on enough voters that it's worth repeating. Remember that there was a significant loss of votes in a few areas in the US because the GOP and media managed to convince the less knowledgeable that one or two far-leftie pro-Bernie signs at a march meant the Democrats were leftist socialists who wanted a dictatorship.

by Anonymousreply 156June 15, 2021 7:28 PM

What college? Where? Is Notre Dame woke central? Is Case-Western Reserve? Is Washington and Lee? Is Georgetown?

I must ask you now to sit down, shut up, and stop wasting this thread's time with your bullshit.

R164 R165 R166. This is R121. They’re lying. FBI falls under the “Deep State” category Trump so often referred to. FBI also said that Antifa is just an ideology. Those of us on here who aren’t Democrats, and are opposed to the Left, don’t believe much of what the FBI says.

by Anonymousreply 169June 15, 2021 9:19 PM

r169 has stated her boundaries. Her moronic Trump Cult boundaries. If Trump didn't say it, it can't be true. That's just science!

by Anonymousreply 170June 15, 2021 9:49 PM

Oh my god....

According to the ADL, of the 17 extremist killings in 2020, approximately 9 were committed by "white supremacists."

However, 8 people were killed by BEARS in 2020! And the liberals thought Betsy DeVos was being silly for being concerned about bear attacks.

And 41 people were killed by DOGS!

251,000 died from MEDICAL ERRORS. Why aren't we doing these "FUCK DOCTORS" campaign!? After all, aren't they overpaid and aren't we trusting them with our lives? Why are the police so demonized?

450 people were murdered by CHILDREN.

91 people were killed by SENIORS.

This country has lots of pressing dangers, but "white supremacists" isn't one of them.
I’m a recently turned conservative. I wouldn’t necessarily say “right winger,” but I’ve definitely changed at 45. I’m done with “wokeness,” BLM, Biden/Harris, heavy government, and exorbitant taxation

See I'm not letting anyone label me because THEY have decided to change the definition. I am still a liberal. That doesn't mean I accept extremism in the name of liberalism.

None of the things you cite make you a conservative.

Even liberals with some familiarity with taxation understand that tax policy is complex and that taxation needs to work for businesses as well as individuals.

Even liberals understand that criminals and other dangerous persons need policing and some kind of control.

Even liberals who believe that people should be free to express their sexuality as they please without discrimination understand some "sexuality" (if harmful to others) is off limits and that minors should be a protected class from sexual predators whatever name or guise they operate under.

Anyone with a brain and the ability to read history knows that BLM is a wannabe-Marxist scam and that what got us so far in civil rights victories and a more integrated healthier society was not BLM tactics.

It is easy to label others as you want if you keep the labels vague and weaponize it. People will be afraid to speak in opposition.

I simply won't let extremists rob me of what I know I am. I am a liberal Democrat.

by Anonymousreply 176June 15, 2021 10:28 PM

Anyone, liberal or conservative, knows this is a ridiculously top-heavy economy and politicians are far too worried about making the rich richer and not worried enough about anything else. Higher taxes on the rich, and a wealth tax, are not something to shriek and howl about. They are the only reasonable beginning to reversing the stupid ideology, which sadly has infected the Democratic Party as well, that the primary problem we have as a nation is that the rich aren't rich enough.

by Anonymousreply 177June 15, 2021 10:50 PM

I don't know any liberal who thinks that, R177. But then that's not what this is about.

So what is your point?

by Anonymousreply 178June 15, 2021 10:54 PM

Anyone who has been conscious for the past 40 years knows that we have gone way overboard in caring about the rich in this country, especially the Republican Party which is simply the Rich People's Party at the this point. The Democratic Party wasted a lot of time on neoliberal nonsense and now has finally started to abandon that shit. No more tax cuts for the rich. No more pretending that the budget deficit is some all important factor in the economy, (except of course when it comes to massive tax cuts for the rich). It is time for all of us, left, right, and center to abandon that nonsense and focus on some serious redistribution of the wealth toward everybody else. Time to stop pretending that the wealth of Jeff Bezos, or Bill Gates, or Elon Musk is in any way the primary concern of government. Time to tax them seriously.

And if you don't know of any liberals that realize that, you need to get out of whatever little enclave of wealth you are marinating in and notice that the country pretty much sucks for anybody who isn't wealthy, and most politicians for 40 years haven't given a shit about that.

by Anonymousreply 179June 15, 2021 11:13 PM

I can give you a list of liberals who think that. That's liberal orthodoxy.

Sheesh usually trolls have a certain sense of humor. Not any more....

I don't support the bloody RNC, while at the same time seeing Dems as wokesters. Not mutually exclusive, sorry!

by Anonymousreply 182June 15, 2021 11:54 PM

It's so interesting the way people who claim to be disaffected liberals, troubled by the leftward drift of the party, conveniently ignore the fact that the most powerful Dem in the country is a middle of the road old man.

The previous one was a middle of the road black man.

The candidate in 2016 was a middle of the road old woman.

Who are these WOKESTERS who control the party? What legislation have they enacted? What laws have they passed?

You all are cranky old faggots who think college students are powerful.

by Anonymousreply 183June 15, 2021 11:57 PM

R183 I found Trump appealing and actually agree with a lot of what R179 says.

by Anonymousreply 184June 16, 2021 12:01 AM

And right now, in Washington, there is a major infrastructure bill and a major voting rights bill being blocked, not by the woke, not by the terrifying, horrifying leftwing, but by the people that block everything useful to anyone who isn't super rich: the Republican Party and dingbat centrists, or really wingnuts, in the Democratic Party.

by Anonymousreply 185June 16, 2021 12:02 AM

I voted Trump, I'm a lifelong Gay Republican, but I would never classify myself as "far right". I'm a moderate. I think most people are to be honest.

by Anonymousreply 186June 16, 2021 12:04 AM

Anyone who uses the term Latinx in a speech is woke to me, hardly middle-of-the-road.

I am curious how it is that Biden, Pelosi, and the Kennedy family, have not been actually formally excommunicated by the church since their positions on abortion and same-sex marriage would make that a likely mismatch?

by Anonymousreply 187June 16, 2021 12:05 AM

Well gee, r187, do you think every Catholic who disagrees with the church on the death penalty and whether the poor matter or are just useless eaters should also be excommunicated?

The truth is the Church isn't interested in excommunicating a lot of people, especially prominent people, for complicated reasons, both religious and political.

by Anonymousreply 188June 16, 2021 12:11 AM

(R-185) The Infrastructure bill is being blocked because it's less than 20% infrastructure and all the rest is progressive pet projects and pork. If the Dems would serve up an Infrastructure Bill that wasn't packed with pork, it would pass. As for the "Voting Rights Bill"...There are very valid reasons why it's not going to pass. We had massive problems in 2020 with expanded voting procedures and we're going to expand on them even further? No way! Let's fix what we've got first. Everyone who has the legal right to vote should be able to vote.

by Anonymousreply 189June 16, 2021 12:13 AM

Gosh R189, congrats, you almost managed to make drooling, right-wing bullshit sound sane. I hope you're around to tell us everything's fine when the R's steal the next 2 elections.

by Anonymousreply 190June 16, 2021 12:17 AM

First, are you sure a "pork free" infrastructure bill would pass, r189. Susan Collins would put on her most concerned face. Lisa Murkowski would want to see the details and may or may not want to meet about it. A few others would express very guarded interest. But are you sure that in the end Mitch the Bitch wouldn't just order everybody to oppose it or face some crazed and idiotic primary challenger?

I seriously doubt that Joe Manchin's problem is actually pork either. It's the very idea of something that isn't primarily geared toward helping his rich donors, and really owners, like the Koch Brothers.

As for voting rights, all over the country Republican legislatures are not only introducing little fucked up restrictions to suppress the vote of black people primarily, but anyone who can't be absolutely guaranteed to vote for the Republican asshole servant of the rich. In addition, they are moving toward simply wanting to get the voters out of the picture altogether, and simply have heavily gerrymandered legislatures pick the Republican victor no matter how anyone votes. Do you give a shit? Any idea of what to do about it? Other than blame the woke?

I've never voted for Trump, nor Hillary, nor Biden. The last time I voted was for Gary Johnson, and that was just out of protest. Turning away from Democrats does not mean embracing Republicans. R168 is the real misdirection troll, trying to convince people that Democrat is the ONLY viable option. It wouldn't be if people would stop fucking supporting them no matter what they do or don't do as it were. If you think Democrats are going to stop or undo anything the Republicans have done you are insane and ignorant of history.

by Anonymousreply 193June 16, 2021 1:06 AM

Sorry, but it IS the only viable option r193. Your vote for Gary Johnson was just self-indulgent bullshit for a self-indulgent candidate. You really don't get that? You think your purity matters?

by Anonymousreply 194June 16, 2021 1:08 AM

The point is I'm not here shilling for either party the way you are. You aren't adding anything substantive just trying to shout down anything that makes your side look bad. It's plain old propaganda.

by Anonymousreply 195June 16, 2021 1:14 AM

There are two actual choices each election. That is our system, until we really get radical and change that. But for now. A vote for boutique candidates is generally a vote for Republican bullshit. That is the very practical problem with all the glibertarians and bernie bros. Your purity is nonsense and accomplishes nothing.

by Anonymousreply 200June 16, 2021 2:58 AM

It bears repeating the GOP has it on its political agenda, not hidden mind you, to repeal gay marriage, to revoke protections for gay people under the employment laws, and to criminalize gay sex. Gay Republicans are self-hating assholes. Look at Aaron Shock. Voted against every gay positive bill, all the while being gay and now his life is traveling the world going to circuit parties while he STILL supports the GOP. I will make it simple if you voted for Trump, you are a self-hating asshole.

by Anonymousreply 201June 16, 2021 3:07 AM

Republicans in the US and right wingers in other countries who say they believe utmost in personal freedom, the small state, the law and government knowing its place and butting out of peoples lives a lot of the time should really logically be pro gay marriage in my opinion.Especially the uber libertarians. They are being really inconsistent in their view of freedom.

by Anonymousreply 202June 16, 2021 3:17 AM

It's very annoying that we have to vote based on our sexuality. We really have no choice and if we do choose to deviate, it's may be with strong conviction, but then you feel like you are hurting the greater good of your community. I wish sexuality was not an issue to factor in. I think people might vote differently.

by Anonymousreply 203June 16, 2021 3:32 AM

R88 = all Fake News.

He is Boris once again trying to reduce Republican treason, corruption, fraud and fascism to “just a disagreement” and pretend the moderate Democratic Party is “bonkers,” not the Q-Anon-swilling, Fox News fool-fellating, Marjorie Taylor-Greene-electing, Cawthorn catheter-guzzling, thieving McConnell court-packing, Pro-rapist child-molesting (Trump, Moore, Gaetz), hypocrsy-on-steroids-injecting, fraudulent platform-peddling, COVID-spreading, Capitol-rioting SHITFUCK FAILURE TRASH that is the modern Republican Party.

Everyone knows the Republicans are the most anti-American and radical party ever known to American history now. That’s why they’re abandoning the GOP and joining the Democrats in droves.

Moderates control the Democrats, but the inmates have taken over the Republican asylum.

And they’re hanging beefcake posters up on their walls to stop abortion and ban homosexuality.

by Anonymousreply 204June 16, 2021 3:47 AM

Boris @ r93, etc. keeps pretending that it wasn’t Republicans who provoked the modern race wars, with the Deplorables’ sickening reaction against black victims of police violence starting with Ferguson, then nominating Trump and then 2020’s open season on innocent blacks

White cops and Republicans instigated BLM and race/trans/activist scapegoating. It doesn’t benefit voters’ lives but white trash will vote Republican to harass, ignore or merely insult minorities just because it feels good.

Pure evil, un-American but all the modern GOP has besides Fake News and cheating.

by Anonymousreply 205June 16, 2021 4:14 AM

R186 thinks voting for republicans -- which means voting against democracy, voting against gay rights, voting to ban abortion, voting for judges who want to put gays in jail, voting for politicians who support McConnell and Greene and DeSantis, etc -- makes him a moderate.

Sorry R186. You are a rightwing, self-hating homo. And you know it. Which is why you come here and shriek about being a moderate. And then probably drown yourself in a quart of vodka every night and hate the fact you're a gay man.

by Anonymousreply 206June 16, 2021 4:19 AM

We haven’t turned away from the Democratic party, it turned away from us. I’ve been a 22 year member of the party, in 3 states, with two exceptions have always voted straight-ticket and I will never vote for or otherwise support this party again because of their embrace of totalitarianism, because of the war they’ve waged against the traditional liberal values of free speech, LGB and women’s rights, because of their anti-science, sexist, patronizing, corporatist dogma, because of their robust and shameless lying and propaganda. This party has spit on everything I prioritize politically and socially and no longer represent my values. While I’m still allowed to think non-approved thoughts and vote my conscience, I’ll be doing so. The Democrats can get fucked. And I really hope some you get out of your echo chambers and get some fucking perspective.

It’s disheartening that after four years of the Trump train wreck of an administration and now that the Republican Party is so openly shifting into fascist mode so many on gays here are deciding to join the GOP. I can’t see the appeal. Strictly from the standpoint of holding onto some kind of democracy it doesn’t bode well for the future if people clearly can can see what the Republicans are and happily want more of it. The projection in some of these posts is staggering.

by Anonymousreply 213June 16, 2021 6:35 AM

There's really not. There's a considerable divergence between the perception of hordes of gay right-wingers and the reality, which is far less. With greater gay acceptance has unfortunately come the recognition of gays as a legitimate target for online far-right troll brigades, whose objective has always been skewing public perception of various demographics (blacks, women, and now gays) as sharing right-wing views. The name of the troll game has always been 'everybody thinks this way,' i.e. amplification of right-wing messaging on social media.

Even the premise of this thread and its title, 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐆𝐚𝐲 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭-𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐰?, tend to serve this function. Don't buy into it.

Do you see what an extra-level psycho he is to presume to speak for millions of people he doesn’t even know and then claim gays are happy to bash themselves? Those are some Maximum Security delusions of grandeur.

It’s all lies to reinforce their agenda, which is to spite anyone getting help who needs it and lower the tax burden for the ultra rich.

R206 - “You are a right wing, self-hating homo.”

Wow that’s quite a bit of anger on your part. And a few assumptions as well. I also think we’re too quick to throw out the term “self-hating.” How do you know he hates himself? I’m a gay Republican and I can tell you I absolutely do not hate myself. In fact, I love myself, (some say too much lol) my patriotism, and my country.

by Anonymousreply 223June 16, 2021 2:21 PM

Except your country doesn't love you back.

by Anonymousreply 224June 16, 2021 2:41 PM

OP, the answer to your question is simple. They are right-wing as a way of avoiding dealing with their gender dysphoria. As a matter of fact, homosexuality itself is right-wing as is the entire outdated and transphobic concept of biological sex.

If you are not trans, then you are transphobic which makes you a deplorable. Gay men are women. Lesbians are men. Disagree with that statement, and you are a deplorable.

by Anonymousreply 225June 16, 2021 2:45 PM

That's a super accurate depiction of your cultural rivals and not at all stupid nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 226June 16, 2021 2:57 PM

You racist transphobic cisf@gs won’t transition to the heterosexual women you are, always have been, and always will be because of your right-wing political views.

Trans is progressive. Homosexuality is reactionary. You racist transphobic cisf@gs need to transition into heterosexual womanhood and become Democrats or you will continue to get the ostracism you deserve. Trans men are better gay men than you ever were or you ever will be. Our vaginas get the cocks you actually want instead of the ones you settle for, so you take it out on us by voting against our best interest and yours.

by Anonymousreply 227June 16, 2021 3:02 PM

R219 People like you have been saying that for years. Lol! Anyone who would base their political outlook on what the popular crowd deems acceptable, is worthless. Fellow non-Democrat gays, stop trying to please these people. They hate you. Especially among gays our subculture is comparable to the typical high school scenario. When you think about the emotional maturity of the average teenager, you should easily understand how gay culture sets us up to do what is considered to be popular, rather than use our own logic to make decisions about politics. Once you free yourself from the need to please the popular crowd, you’ll make more intelligent decisions for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 228June 16, 2021 3:06 PM

Rand Paul isn’t a libertarian. He’s a con artist.

by Anonymousreply 229June 16, 2021 3:53 PM

The reason why so many gay men, and many white people in general (hell, even minorities like Latinos) are increasingly shifting right is largely down to the Democrat's perceived embrace of woke culture. The hyper racial and gender politics of the far-left is turning off a lot of democratic voters particularly in key swing states. I'm not saying this is an accurate perception but I think many white people are growing tired of hearing about their "privilege" or how they are all inherently racist. Whether your agree with these statements, it puts peoples backs up and you lose their support. Even some prominent Democratic strategists are admitting being "woke" is a problem for the party. Basically in America now you've got the far-right which are white supremacists, and the far-left with are anti-white.

This thread can accurately and succinctly be summed up as a bunch of old white gay men who got theirs and fuck everyone else. But they're too cowardly to admit that so they'll pretend the problem is young people wanting livable wages and an end to oligarchies. You say dumb shit like the left is too deep into identity politics as if the right isn't. What is politics without identity? Who's always talking about how they're the "real Americans," "real patriots," "the traditional family values" "God fearing Christians" "one man, one woman" etc. As someone from the conservative South, the first thing people want to know is what church you go to and who your people are. Also, the right moreso than the left is very apt at weaponizing the identity of others to instill fear and loathing in their voting base. I mean look how effective the "welfare queen" trope has been for decades. The majority of people on welfare are white yet the GOP effectively made Black women the face of welfare and their base of poor, white trash was all too eager to eat up and vote against their interest.

r230, you are spot on. As the saying goes, “When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression."

by Anonymousreply 233June 16, 2021 4:17 PM

White supremacy is why a backlash against whiteness is justified.

by Anonymousreply 234June 16, 2021 4:18 PM

And the thing that's so irritating, R233, is that they make these broadly sweeping generalizations (The Dems are Losing Everywhere because of Wokeness!!) without any hint of evidence or and hint of a definition of what "wokeness" is.

I can think of 100 examples of police brutality, corporate malfeasance, Republican creeping fascism, institutionalized racism, but none of that matters.

All that matters, it seems, is that HR made poor widdle Eldergay sit through a seminar she didn't like! Wahhh!!! So Eldergay is a Nazi now cause bisexual college student girl on the news has blue hair and likes Bernie!!!

by Anonymousreply 235June 16, 2021 4:23 PM

r235, "wokeness" along with "cancel culture" are meaningless terms. They're used so broadly and vaguely that they've been rendered irrelevant.

by Anonymousreply 236June 16, 2021 4:31 PM

Yes, at this point, "wokeness" means "anything Republicans don't like" and "cancel culture" is "Republicans facing consequences for saying dumb shit in public."

I also love how all the right wingers are pretending the Republican base is expanding when actual data shows otherwise. And the GOP powers know this which is why they're hellbent on making voting harder. Data shows that higher voter turn out is very bad for the GOP. Even Trump knew that. His own words were "you'd never have a Republican elected in this country again" if voting access expanded. When face with the choice of conservatism or democracy, conservatives will choose conservatism.

by Anonymousreply 240June 16, 2021 4:44 PM

Gays can't be racist because racism equals power plus prejudice, and only heterosexuals have the power to oppress.

by Anonymousreply 241June 16, 2021 4:44 PM

r241 white people have the power to opress. Gay or Straight.

by Anonymousreply 246June 16, 2021 5:08 PM

No gay person has the power to oppress any heterosexual person. Period.

by Anonymousreply 247June 16, 2021 5:10 PM

Someone asked how the cult mentality affects us: I am old (40+). When I grew up - in Germany - the biggest roadblock to gay rights were Catholics who thought being gay was against nature. Fast forward to now: I took some courses at my local university again during corona. Two fellow students, both girls, are "queer". One already amputated her breasts. I know another girl who had a total mastectomy, the granddaughter of a dear friend - a very progressive one - I have in the South of the USA. Another friend I have turned from bi and sex-positive to depressed, trans, and asexual (Southern USA as well). She is also collecting donations now to cut off her breasts. The cult is harming people, and it's very real. It's helping absolutely no one - not gay people. and surely not women, their loudest supporters. I want people to be well, mentally and physically, and to enjoy life. I'm against the mutilation of healthy bodies. If this is a position that makes me right-wing, so be it.

by Anonymousreply 248June 16, 2021 5:21 PM

I'm not American but reading through this thread is a great summary of why American democracy is going to fail within the next 5 to 20 years. Ya'll are so divided and everything has become hyper reactionary. Cold hard fact, both sides of the are fascists. Both think the other side is intrinsically evil. Each side thinks they are oppressed and victims. Each side believes you should think their way or you're the enemy. Both believe in censorship rather than free speech. Both believe the other is trying to suppress their vote...you can't overcome it.

by Anonymousreply 249June 16, 2021 5:25 PM

R249 - You actually summed it up quite well. I’m so happy I’m in the latter part of my life (mid 50s) rather than a young person today in the USA. I can afford to insulate myself from all the chaos here. It’s truly a bleak outlook.

by Anonymousreply 250June 16, 2021 5:27 PM

R249 is a classic example of not understanding what's going on in America. He goes for the he-said, she-said argument, as though both sides had claims to be fact-based and good. The reality is that the republicans are doing everything they can to destroy democracy, the democrats are trying to save it. There's no question about that. Even McConnell and his team admit they're doing all they can to stop people from voting, as are the governors of Texas, Georgia, Florida.

R249 is the kind of observer who would have said in 1934, look, the Nazis have their truth, their opponents have theirs, let's be fair and let both of them speak.

And by the way R249, how many "not American"s say ""Ya'll"???

by Anonymousreply 251June 16, 2021 5:31 PM

There are extremists in both political wings. The Republican party has given their extremists the keys and said "go nuts!" and they have. Sarah Palin would seem fucking moderate today. The same has not happened on the left.

by Anonymousreply 252June 16, 2021 5:33 PM

R249 I'm just tired of the blatant /pol/ brigading. Shut the fuck up.

by Anonymousreply 253June 16, 2021 5:34 PM

"Extremist" is another buzzword the oligarch use to keep their slaves from rebelling.

by Anonymousreply 254June 16, 2021 5:35 PM

R254 You beat me to it. Anyone who criticizes a politician for any reason could be labeled an extremist rather than someone with a dissenting opinion. Everyone knows that politicians put corporate interests over the needs of their constituents.

by Anonymousreply 255June 16, 2021 5:37 PM

Without realizing it, R251 just proved R249's point in their, "Everything that is wrong with America is the fault of the other side." Yes, the Republicans are absolutely corrupt and are trying to suppress democracy. Why?because their supporters believe that the "other side" (e.g. the democrats) are responsible for everything that is wrong with America. As R249 said, both sides now automatically default to the other side is the enemy.

We should also be truthful and say that the majority Democrats are just as much in bed with corporate America, the difference is they put on a pretense that they actually care about "average" Americans. I am a Democrat and I believe we are the moral heart of America (most Americans have moderate to progressive views on most issues) and when it comes down to it, most Americans are more democrats than republican. Problem is the Democratic messaging is no longer landing where it needs to land to actually fucking win things. But rather than look inwards, it's everyone else's fault: racism, misogyny, Russia, voter suppression etc.etc.

I'm going to be truthful. I am a "leftie" and I wouldn't vote repug to save my life. I believe in equal rights, equal pay, fair voting laws, trans rights etc. But I will never label myself woke because to me it is the opposite side of Trumpism. It puts my back up when I am lecture on about my privilege despite when in fact most people in this country (regardless of race are living in poverty), that I am inherently racist because of my skin color (because there is nothing racists of branding a group of people with one brush).

Democrats needs to break away from the "social media woke mob" and start focusing on winning!

by Anonymousreply 256June 16, 2021 6:10 PM

Thank you, not-actually-a-foreigner at R249, for pointing out that only an American is so ignorant of the rest of the world to think that the problems America has aren't true for a lot of countries. France? Gosh they're SO united. Israel? A love-fest. The UK that may break up in a few years? A picture of unity.

What a stupid, blinkered, ahistorical troll.

by Anonymousreply 257June 16, 2021 6:23 PM

You guys realize if you put half the thread on ignore and look at their posts they've only posted in this thread, right? This thread is infected with trolls.

by Anonymousreply 258June 16, 2021 6:37 PM

I might quibble with some of that r256. I think the Democrats are still not nearly as corporate as the Republicans, who simply exist to make the rich richer and pump up neoNazis and white supremacism to give poor whites something to focus on while giving more to the rich. But some of it definitely is. neoliberalism was a big pain in the ass and largely a waste.

And I don't expect revolution from somebody like Biden. Just a shift more towards the FDR/LBJ side of things. Less for the rich. More for everybody else. It's not that traumatic, or shouldn't be. But of course there will be shrieks and howls of socialism for anything that doesn't boil down to make the rich richer. It's been that way since Reagan.

As for the woke, yes, they will need to drown them out. It's not so much that the Democratic Party is really pushing wokism. It's that every time some dumb bitch at Yale or Berkeley or Dingbat University has a meltdown over some stupid fucking issue it will be blamed on Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris by the entire paid wingnut machinery. We need to have an alternative, very loud, very clear message to drown that shit out. Although among other things we should be constantly hanging QAnon and the Insurrection and the Trump Cult around every Republican politician.

by Anonymousreply 259June 16, 2021 6:43 PM

Wow, r207, you care to give specific examples of your Newsmax Q statements? Democrats are anti science? Shameless lying and propaganda? What specific "values" has the Democratic Party "spit on" And what specific "war" have Democrats waged against gays and lesbians? Be specific, don't hand wave. Come on, you can do it!

by Anonymousreply 260June 16, 2021 8:37 PM

I never knew Darren Grimes was gay.

by Anonymousreply 261June 16, 2021 8:42 PM

R179, you say that the Republican Party is the rich man's party at this point, but it's worth noting that the party that took the most money from Wall Street these past several elections (with the exception of Obama v Romney, I think) was the Democratic Party.

Why do you think Big Tech companies like Amazon and Facebook and Twitter support the Democratic Party so? Aren't these the big super corporations?

It's silly to single out the Republican Party as "the rich man's party." No, it's basically the "tax cut party," whereas the Democratic Party is the "tax loophole" party.

by Anonymousreply 262June 16, 2021 9:15 PM

White supremacy is a myth when majority white nations were ahead of the curve on gay rights and still are.

by Anonymousreply 263June 16, 2021 9:20 PM

Why would white supremacy be a myth in a white nation that has more progressive LGB rights?

by Anonymousreply 264June 16, 2021 9:25 PM
This thread can accurately and succinctly be summed up as a bunch of old white gay men who got theirs and fuck everyone else.
What do you mean old white gay men who "got theirs"? Got what? Gay marriage? What is "theirs" exactly, R233?

Does gay marriage and the benefits therein - such as IMMIGRATION LAW - not apply to nonwhites? Why do you trannies always ignore women? What about lesbians tired of your shit?

Commie shitbags always expect gays and lesbians to support every horseshit idea they spew. The gay and lesbian movement was about HOMOSEXUAL PARTNERSHIP and ANTI-DISCRIMINATION RIGHTS. Nothing more. It's not about living wages or gay-hating Palestinians, or straight blacks thinking the police are mean. It's not about trannies getting a payday because you don't refer to some hideous creature as "they/them."

And what's even better is that you expect gays and lesbians to support you when you lead with objectional rhetoric like "old white gay men." Don't cry for gay support then. I've never asked for a communist tranny's support.

by Anonymousreply 265June 16, 2021 9:46 PM

R275 I love how all the gay white men on this thread think they know what racism and misogyny actually is, and then proceed to lecture the rest of us about it.

This right here. So what do we do?

by Anonymousreply 277June 17, 2021 6:21 AM

R268, Trump also partially closed that one tax loophole that pissed off Wall Street.

And no, it's not permanent, it's only until Congress revises the tax code.

Taxing is actually quite complicated because, at the end of the day, it's about bringing in tax revenue. And like with anything, the law of diminishing marginal utility applies and there's a sweet spot before you start getting negative returns.

by Anonymousreply 278June 17, 2021 6:33 AM

Inflation is on the rise and people making under 400K are going to have their taxes raised. Not good.

by Anonymousreply 279June 17, 2021 6:36 AM

r266, not incidentally, J. Edgar Hoover was an autogynephilic fetishist, just like Pritzker, Rothblatt, and the other men who are paying the Democrats and other formerly liberal political parties and organizations across the world to destroy the sex based rights women and LGB rely upon for safety and equity.

89% of the men in prison for having committed sexual assault have autogynephilia amongst their top 3 fetishes; a full 60% ID as "trans".

Well, The left now is all about tranny nonsense and against our sex-based rights, the right doesn't even care about LGB people at all.

Actual gay people has no party who stood for them anymore.

Also, We really shouldn't normalize this "cis" bullshit, it's pure tranny nonsense and accept the fact that some LGB/T people have different views from yours.

The reason Dummy could pal around with Putin and Xi and Erdogan and any other tin-pot dictator is because, to the Deplorables, they're better than Hillary nominating feminist judges.

They agree with about 30% of the DL that feminism is cancer, trans rights are a threat to civilization and this whole "woke" idea is worse than the Klan.

by Anonymousreply 287June 17, 2021 2:03 PM

R287 - I had forgotten how Reagan had negatively used and popularized the word “liberal.” Oh the memories of the glorious 80s. Now, as a well-off gay man in my late 50s, when I hear “liberal” and “woke” I get a nauseous feeling.

by Anonymousreply 288June 17, 2021 2:23 PM

288 Ronald Reagan hasn’t been in office in over 32 years. A generation has passed. Think of things that have evolved and no longer the same as 32 years ago. In 1993 the majority of Americans had some religious affiliation. That too has flipped. Allowing your mind to be stuck in an incorrect illusion is dangerous.

If someone or some people were smart enough, financed enough and popular enough maybe they could rescue the rethugs from themselves and offer a centrist leaning right party more akin to the GOP of the 50s, 60s, even 70s. But I just can't see that with the way the GOP has been captured by the crazies.

Maybe the trans can do it, they are so good at capturing organizations and lord knows they have the money.

by Anonymousreply 305June 17, 2021 7:17 PM

Yes, we all know how much money there is in being a transwoman. That's why they get beaten up so much and whole swathes of the country are passing laws specifically aimed at them. People hate them cause they're so rich. Same thing happens the Jeff Bezos.
Yes, we all know how much money there is in being a transwoman. That's why they get beaten up so much and whole swathes of the country are passing laws specifically aimed at them.

What an intellectually dishonest statement. Denying that the trans movement is the recipient of tons of financial backing is ridiculous.

Trans women do not get beaten up at the rate that women do so don't even go there with that lie.

Laws are being passed to protect the sex-based rights and needs of women and girls. If transwomen and transgirls are affected it is because their desire to live as a female has limits by virtue of biology and reality.

by Anonymousreply 310June 17, 2021 10:54 PM

Just to correct a Trans Extremist lie upthread, in the last election, Republicans gained more women, LGB, and all POC than in any other previous election. The Democrats gained middle and upper class white men. These demographic bloc shifts were nearly proportional. We had a whole thread about the NYT article on the subject.

Anyone who thinks these trends are going to reverse, after the horrific policy choices the Democrats have made in only the last six months, much less how they'll operate for next year and a half, is completely delusional.

by Anonymousreply 311June 18, 2021 8:31 AM

Can R311 link to some evidence of this? Can they break down numbers here? The Post reported AP surveys that showed Biden winning LBGT voters 75/25 which is, you know, pretty good!

Or are you talking about election-to-election gains? This is slippery bullshit on your part, R311, and leads me to believe you picked this up somewhere but yes, Trump got more LGBT votes than any Republican in history while....still losing by 50 points.

by Anonymousreply 323June 18, 2021 11:45 PM
Why are so many "straight" Black men homophobic, sexist, and antisemitic?

Keep elevating losers like the BLM icons while encouraging anti-Semitic attacks and rhetoric, which are on the rise in LA. A kids was punched in the face on Melrose the other day. A couple was beat up eating sushi. Violent attacks by gang members in Beverly Hills in broad daylight!, This is why the left are going right. White gay men are being erased. Pride months is black trans month. All this division is on purpose. It will ultimately not be a race war but a class one. Whites will simply move to areas that are municipalities. Look at Buchhead in Atlanta. Cities will pay for unapologetic police forcing and whites will move to area where the police are supported and they feel safe, leaving the the greater metro areas that were once mixed to become derelict shit holes.

So if you're for more jobs being shipped overseas, more illegal immigration, and more foreign wars, then you are a "moderate". We've had this system for decades, however, both Trump and Bernie displayed all the ugliness that was behind the curtain. Nowadays, you have left and right wing populists who agree on a lot of things. That, and the rise of big tech oligarchies have accelerated wage inequality faster than at any time in our history.

by Anonymousreply 339June 19, 2021 3:28 PM

We've also been fed this fantasy that home prices are going through the roof because people just love living in the cities so much. Well, we know now that definitely isn't true. We're raising a generation that won't be able to afford a home or even an education. This is why we can't become distracted with issues of identity.

by Anonymousreply 342June 19, 2021 10:21 PM

It is stupid shit like this that keeps turning people towards the GOP. The Democrats are seen as supporting stuff like this. Honestly, if the DNC want to get white supporters back in swing states, they need to stop being seen as pandering to the small but vocal "woke" crowd. If the Democrats lose the Senate and/or House in 2022, American democracy is dead.

Far Right's Agenda: Restrict voting access making it difficult for certain legal voters to vote, give tax cuts to rich, increase a military budget that already spends more than the next 17 countries combined, cut education spending, cut social program spending, make it easier for the Christian majority to discriminate, install a theocracy

Without details about definitions you simple cannot know what these things mean. You need to lay it on the table exactly what each "policy" entails.

What does "expanding voting rights" mean? What does "restrict voting rights" mean.

These are pretty much nothing more than conclusory statements. Conclusory statements made from a specific political slant. Not everyone is a gullible fool.

That's for adding nothing to the discussion.

They're pretty self-evident, R347. Democrats want as many eligible voters to vote as possible, and Republicans want to reduce eligibility and throw up roadblocks in front of the poor and people of color. Stop trying to introduce uncertainty in straightforward matters.

Does restricting mean you have to show an ID? Many years ago I would have said that was restricting when it was costly to get ID but not today. Allowing prisoners to vote while still in prison or waiting until their sentences are completed? Shit I am for requiring those on probation or parole to vote as a way to rehabilitate themselves. But I do understand those who want to wait until people have completed sentences.

How about allowing those with permanent residence status to vote? I'm not sure how I feel about that but those who don't want non-citizens to vote does not make you right wing.

Reforming the justice system? How? Taking away defendants' rights? Looking the other way when certain categories of people commit crimes?

NONE of this is self-evident. And this is why people like you say it is self-evident when it is clearly not.

Obfuscation and distraction.

by Anonymousreply 356June 20, 2021 2:02 AM

R356 The simple truth is they don't care who votes as long as they stay in power. And if you have a problem with that then you're a racist.

by Anonymousreply 357June 20, 2021 2:17 AM

When has Biden "encouraged" illegal immigration? Give an example when he said this, And on voting: if you're going to require a voter ID to vote, then issure EVERY SINGLE ELEGIBLE VOTER A VOTER ID CARD. Republicans shit their pants over that one. How about making voting locations easy to reach for everyone and have staff and machines with a minimum time wait to vote? Republicans shit their pats over that one too. Do you think it's fair that in certain locations, people can breeze in and out and vote in 15 minutes, and in other locations, there's a five hour wait? What are republicans with their new laws doing to correct this. How about a location with large amounts of working people that shortens it's hours and days that restricts nearby residents voting ability? Fair? Why are all the republican changes focused on this? Oh yea, to prevent fraud.

by Anonymousreply 358June 20, 2021 2:40 AM
Obfuscation and distraction.

A clear statement of your own agenda here, R356.
Does restricting mean you have to show an ID? Many years ago I would have said that was restricting when it was costly to get ID but not today.

Having to have a certain kind of ID in order to vote is still a roadblock for many poor and minorities. But then it's intended to be.
How about allowing those with permanent residence status to vote? I'm not sure how I feel about that but those who don't want non-citizens to vote does not make you right wing.

Putting on that Democrats want non-citizens to vote makes you right wing. It's a lie, and it's not what's meant by "restricting." Reducing the number of polling places and the number of hours they're open is "restricting." Striking the names of voters, even those with "permanent resident status," off the voting lists is "restricting." Restricting mail-in ballots is "restricting." These are the kinds of things carried out by the Republican anti-voter legislation.

Defending Douglas Murray as you did at R88 also makes you right wing. Pretending that no one knows what's meant by "right wing" is right wing. Using socks (like R355) to evade questions and namecall is right wing. It's all pretty straightforward.

I don't think showing an ID to vote is unreasonable. You have to show ID for far less important matters. I am all for prisoners on parole or out of prison to vote. Honestly, just because you have committed a crime does not strip you of being an American citizen. I voted for ex-convicts to vote in this past election. If you are not a US citizen, you should not be able to vote just as I cannot vote in another country's elections. This seems sensible to me.

I'll be all for Voter ID if the State of Mississippi decides to spend several million dollars giving free ID to its poor, black citizens.

Until then, it's a sneaky way to stop poor people from voting.

The funny thing is that Trump and his shitshow have alienated the educated, upper-class white people. That's why Orange County went blue and West Virginia went red.

by Anonymousreply 363June 20, 2021 8:19 PM

We require ID's for everything - to drive, to drink, to smoke, to see an R-rated film - why wouldn't we require it to elect the person in the highest office in the world?

by Anonymousreply 364June 20, 2021 8:44 PM

Yes, we should make it easier for people to get state IDs. That said, requiring people to vote without ID introduces far more problems than it helps solve.

by Anonymousreply 365June 20, 2021 8:45 PM

For some government websites, even an issued id is not enough. I know someone who registered for unemployment who had to take a video selfie and answer a whole bunch of security questions.

by Anonymousreply 366June 20, 2021 8:48 PM

^And even that was rife with fraud.

by Anonymousreply 367June 20, 2021 8:49 PM

r347, In 2017 the Alabama GOP controlled legislature passed voter ID laws then promptly closed down DMVs in predominately counties meaning for many poor, Black voters the nearest DMV was 2hrs or more away. Luckily the voter ID law and DMV closures were reversed but that is the tactics of the GOP. In North Carolina, the GOP passed voter id laws were struck down by NC courts as being blatantly racist.

The GOP has created this myth of widespread voter fraud in order to pass restrictive voter access laws. Tell me why the documents good enough to get a Voter ID aren't good enough to use to vote?

Meanwhile the Dems For the People Act wants expand voting rights, change campaign finance laws to reduce the influence of money in politics, limit partisan gerrymandering, and create new ethics rules for federal officeholders. The bill would require states to offer same-day voter registration for federal elections and to permit voters to make changes to their registration at the polls. It would require states to hold early voting for at least two weeks and would establish automatic voter registration for individuals to be eligible to vote in elections for federal office in the state.Under the automatic voter registration provision, eligible citizens who provide information to state agencies (including state departments of motor vehicles or public universities) would be automatically registered to vote unless they opt out of doing so. The bill would also expand opportunities to vote by mail and would make Election Day a federal holiday. The bill would require states to offer online voter registration, which has already been adopted in 39 states and the District of Columbia; under the bill, states would be required to establish a system to allow applications to be electronically completed, submitted, and received by election officials, and to allow registered voters to electronically update their voter registration information. The bill would establish criminal penalties for persons who "corruptly hinder, interfere with, or prevent another person from registering to vote" and for voter deception or intimidation (the bill would specifically "prohibit knowing and intentional communication of false and misleading information – including about the time, place, or manner of elections, public endorsements, and the rules governing voter eligibility and voter registration – made with the intent of preventing eligible voters from casting ballots"). The bill would instruct the Election Assistance Commission to adopt recommendations for states on the prevention of interference with voter registration.

by Anonymousreply 368June 21, 2021 1:12 AM

r347, The Dem's billThe bill would also authorize 16- and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote in advance of their becoming 18. The bill would also prohibit the practice of voter caging and restrict the practicing of voter-roll purges by limiting states' ability to remove registered voters from the rolls and setting conditions for when they could do so.[3] Specifically, the bill would require states to obtain certain information before removing voters from the rolls, and would prohibit voter purges from taking place less than six months before an election. The bill prohibits any person from communicating "materially false" claims meant to prevent others from voting 60 days before an election and compels the attorney general to correct such misinformation. The bill also requires elections officials to timely notify any voter tagged for removal from the rolls and give them an opportunity to contest the removal or seek reinstatement of their registration. It also restores voting rights to felons who complete prison terms.

The bill contains various provisions to promote voting access for people with disabilities and provisions to strengthen the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) by providing additional protections for military and overseas voters. To ensure UOCAVA compliance, the bill would "require all states ... to send uniformed service and overseas voters' ballots at least 45 days before a federal election (provided a request was received at least 45 days before the election); require states to use and pay for express delivery and return of ballots if they fail to send ballots to uniformed and overseas voters by that deadline; [and] extend the guarantee of state residency for voting purposes to all spouses and dependents of absent service members (current law extends the guarantee of residency only to service members themselves)."The bill would create a cause of action allowing the attorney general or a private party to sue if a state violates these provisions, and would require states to send reports to Congress documenting "the availability of absentee balloting for service members and overseas voters, how many ballots were transmitted, and how many were returned."

by Anonymousreply 369June 21, 2021 1:13 AM

Compared to efforts in the GOP across several states are proposing bills that include provisions that would limit or eliminate no-excuse absentee voting, require signatures on absentee ballots be notarized, allow officials to purge voters from the Permanent Early Voting List if they have not voted in both the primary and general elections for two consecutive cycles, require absentee ballots be turned in by hand rather than by mail,[require mail-in ballots be postmarked by the Thursday before the election, even if they arrive by Election Day, preemptively forbid same-day voter registration, outlaw private donations to help conduct voter education, and give the state legislature the power to choose the state's electors in the Electoral College, regardless of the outcome of the state's popular vote. In Florida the GOP wants to ban on vote-by-mail ballots from being automatically sent out to voters, restrictions on ballot boxes, stricter signature verification, a ban on ballot collection, a prohibition on counties accepting financial help from private organizations for get-out-the-vote initiatives.

by Anonymousreply 370June 21, 2021 1:19 AM

r347, tell me how Georgia wanted to pass a bill restricting early voting on Sundays, when Black churches traditionally run "Souls to the Polls" get-out-the-vote efforts is not a blatant attempt to restrict voting for certain demographics?

R359 You don't know what you are talking about.

Strict photo ID is required in some states including Wisconsin (Dem governor). Other states require ID of some form. Only 15 states allow voting without ID.

by Anonymousreply 373June 21, 2021 2:18 AM

And as far as access to voting goes: Connecticut for instance does not allow early voting. And "The state restricts absentee voting to specific situations, such as active duty and illness."

Biden's state of Delaware: "Delaware only allows early voting via absentee ballot for those who have one of the approved excuses."

by Anonymousreply 374June 21, 2021 2:23 AM

The Wisconsin law was signed by Scott Walker (Repig Gov). The current Wis legislature is so gerrymandered for Repigs that the Dems would have to win this swing state by 10-12% in order to pick up one house of it. The Dem governor is regularly overturned by the legislature. The Wis State House Reps regularly and openly speak to the press about how they represent the "real" people of Wis, if you discount Milwaukee and Madison, since those people (i.e. black people) don't count.

by Anonymousreply 376June 21, 2021 4:41 PM

R368, R369, thanks for posting some of the specifics.

I thought there was non-citizen voting at the local level in some locations which seems fine with me. If they can show local residency for that location then I don't see why they can't vote in school board elections and other local elections. Maybe I just imagined that local elections. ETA I just checked and there are some municipalities that allow non-citizens to vote but there aren't many and they are in Maryland and California. That's probably how I know about them. There are 14 states that do not prohibit non-citizens from voting locally. There are only 2 states that prohibit it via their states constitutions.

The only valid argument against non-citizens voting in local elections or US elections, if it were true, would be that people should accept the responsibilities of US citizenship before they can vote BUT they already must pay taxes, obey laws and are subject to draft registration and in the past HAVE been drafted and HAVE served in the military. What other responsibilities am I forgetting? And, of course, some people cannot become or easily become citizens depending on their immigration status.

My reply at R88 is correct. Murray is by no means a right winger. If he is your definition of a right winger then you by your labeling are a far leftist.

Where my parents live, in the black areas, not only did they close a bunch of Photo ID centers, moving them further outside of the reach of public transportation, but they also did the same thing to voting centers.

Also from being a kid there, if you wanted a photo ID, most people had to go on the weekend when it was crowded because they closed early and people head to work or go to school during the week. To top it off, you couldn't even get in there unless you had all of your documentation in order. I think it was 3 different forms of ID, a bill in your name, and a check or money order.

by Anonymousreply 393June 26, 2021 6:37 AM

R380 is himself the very essence of over-simplification.

by Anonymousreply 395June 27, 2021 12:17 AM
I think being "conservative" in UK is different of being conservative in USA.

It’s not. British conservatives are just as nuts. In fact, they’re nuts more now than ever. They love Trump. Boris Johnson, Katie Hopkins, Priti Patel, Piers Morgan and so on. QAnon is huge in Britain. The only difference between the Tories and the American GOP is that there are a handful of moderate Tory voters left in the country. The Left in the UK is batshit crazy and a total dumpster fire.

by Anonymousreply 396June 27, 2021 12:47 AM

Tories are seeking to privatize the NHS. They chilling away at it day by day. It’s like Republicans in America - they go into government hating government, making a mess of things and then turn around and tell people that government doesn’t work. The Tories are stripping funds from the NHS making it a mess just to later say that the NHS isn’t workable and it needs to be privatized. Brits will buy that too.

A lot of people here don’t see cause and effect. The reason the people are moving more towards the Centre, which to many in the Left means the Right is because the Left is insane and intolerant.

All the fears that you pushed onto the Right about what they may do if they were in power, you act out yourselves.

The Left has murdered language. Being a Nazi used to be a very specific thing, now it is anyone who disagrees with you. Being racist was seen as the worst thing you could be, reserved for the worst of the worst. Now the term is flung about so much, that no tonly can you be racist, your ancestors be racist, your country be racist but fucking oat bran can be as well.

You ask everyone to believe all women, unless they of course attack a Democrat and then you need to have reservations.

You spit on more than half the population and say they are all bigots and dumb

Then you wonder why people leave the Left.

by Anonymousreply 402June 27, 2021 1:27 PM

r401, in the US 30% of the adult population identifies as conservative. Americans are now more likely to be socially liberal than conservative for the first time since Gallup started polling the question in 2001, with 34% of the adult population identifying as liberal. Younger Americans are far more likely to identify as socially liberal than older adults, all age groups have become increasingly socially liberal over the past 20 years. You're entitled to your own opinions but actual facts are people are becoming more to the left than the right which is why the right is doing everything in their power to pass restrictive voting laws to hold onto power. Funny how reality has a liberal bias.

by Anonymousreply 403June 27, 2021 4:15 PM

Most of people identify as either center left or center right. The far left is a very small but influential sector and the far right are fringe types who have no power or influence, but who are propped up by the far left.

by Anonymousreply 404June 27, 2021 4:22 PM

Not to mention r401 the Republican base is shrinking not growing. The University of Virginia Center for Politics detailed party registration and found that there were nearly 12 million more registered Democrats than Republicans across 31 states and the District of Columbia. Analysis also found that 40% of all voters in party registration states are Democrats, while only 29% are Republicans. Trump has turned the Republican Party even whiter and more male than before, in the months after the insurrection there have been far more Republicans leaving the GOP than there have been Dems leaving the Democratic party.

by Anonymousreply 405June 27, 2021 4:24 PM

r404, 70% of Republicans believe the Big Lie about the election.Marjorie Taylor Greene’s incredible fundraising haul reveals what the GOP is really about. She's raked in over $3 million in donations for the first quarter compared to AOC who has gotten a little over 700k for the same period. To pretend that the far right has no influence among the right and are propped up by the left is just a blatant lie.

by Anonymousreply 406June 27, 2021 4:30 PM

R406 AOC, as many of her peers, are deeply unpopular with most people. Democrats on average raise a lot more money than Republicans due to big money. They also control the narrative. There is no need for organic fundraising.

by Anonymousreply 407June 27, 2021 4:36 PM

r407, is that the best you can come up with? The point is that the claim that the far right has no influence in the GOP and is being propped up by the left is a blatant life. That nutcases like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Brobert raise as much as they do, 70% of the Republican base believe the election was stolen, polla that suggests QAnon as popular in US as some major religions is proof of the influence of the far right.

Also you sound incredibly naive pretending big money is a one party issue. 2019-20 was the first time since Super Pacs came to be in 2010 that the Dems outgrossed the GOP. The Murdoch, Koch, Mercer, DeVois and Adelsons families to name a few pump billions into the GOP party. Data shows that the ultra rich are ultra conservative. We live in a period where people can comfortably exist in their customized echo chambers hearing the narrative that supports their own worldviews so stop pretending the left is the omnipotent god controlling everything.

Also r407, during her reelection run AOC's campaign raised more than $17 million, with 80% coming from small individual donors while her GOP opponent raised $10 million with a large bulk coming from large donors.

by Anonymousreply 409June 27, 2021 5:56 PM

So let’s be clear here. The title of the thread is asking why people are voting Right, not to argue that they are wrong in doing so.

Obviously the whole thread was really just basically a “ let’s bash the Right” thread and was not supposed to elicit more than a superficial response.

We are living in a world that anyone who says the wrong thing is being destroyed. Is it any wonder that people are saying all the right things? I know I have done it. I get asked about Trans rights and I say what I feel I need to say than what I really think. What I really think is Trans have taken over Gay rights. What i say to friends is I have reservations. If I am quiet line on my views and think that imagine what other people say?

by Anonymousreply 410June 28, 2021 2:55 AM

Definitions definitions.

Forever changing those definitions. People continue to believe they are liberal or left-center while the far left tries to paint them as conservative.

by Anonymousreply 411June 28, 2021 3:01 AM

The issue atm is the Left is yelling at anyone in the Centre as Fascist. Not only is not correct and unhelpful, it is literally driving people further from the Left. I used to be proud that I hated the Death penalty and believed in a woman’s right to choose, welfare for all, health care for all. But apparently that is not enough.

The desire to call people bigots and Nazis and racist is higher than looking at the reality of the situation.

by Anonymousreply 412June 28, 2021 3:12 AM

Vote for whoever you like but don't expect to tell blatant lies about things or spread misinformation and get mad when called out on it. If you're a grown person scared to speak your mind then that's just cowardly.

by Anonymousreply 413June 28, 2021 3:16 AM

R409 I'll take your word for it but I noticed that AOC has united populist and establishment Republicans, two groups who rarely ever see eye to eye.

by Anonymousreply 414June 28, 2021 3:37 AM

Ok 413 let’s start off with blatant lies shall we.

Islam is a Religion of Peace. ISIS has nothing to do with Islam. Orlando shooting had everything to do with homophobia and a guy confused about his sexuality and not Islam. Gays have nothing to fear from Islam. Trans women can have periods. There is no difference between Trans women and women. Women who have a problem of men taking over women’s spaces are transphobes. Women and men are the same in sport. Believe all women White people are systematically racist but no other colour can be. America’s history is based on slavery and oppression. Black people are worse off now than in the 50s. White people invented Slavery The West is just one total utter Colonial oppressive system and if other cultures had not been touched everyone would be happy at the moment. China is not oppressive compared to America and if they are they have an excuse. The West. There is no such thing as a baby until it is born. Of a woman wants to terminate a pregnancy after 6 months what’s the issue?

Those are some lies I have heard in the last 2 years on here.

by Anonymousreply 415June 28, 2021 5:27 AM

Are you being sarcastic, R415?

by Anonymousreply 416June 28, 2021 5:39 AM

There are blatant lies on both sides. But one side tends to virtue signal to other side and I basically think of the Left as a lesson on the Emperor has no clothes

by Anonymousreply 417June 28, 2021 8:27 AM

I think it's just that more men are out. On average, however, gay men are still as left-wing as they have always been.

by Anonymousreply 418June 28, 2021 8:33 AM

I think they question posed by the title of the thread has been answered. There really were a lot of gay right-wingers for a while, but ever since the Right basically dropped their drooling, insane hatred of gays as an electoral suicide pact (thanks to the unending activism of left-wingers those right-wingers despise), it's easier to be gay and right-wing.

Right-wingers are basically old, scared, well-off and averse to change. Now that the world is basically perfect for rich gays (can get married, pay low taxes, etc), they don't give a shit if everyone else lives in a rapidly deteriorating police state.

Some gays aren't one-issue voters. We believe in rights and equal treatment for all, not just ourselves.

by Anonymousreply 419June 28, 2021 2:22 PM

With Trumpism and the blatant outright lying by the right, not truth stretching for political points but total lies, cheating, underhanded misinformation, you'd have to be extremely gullible to fall for what the right is selling. The right "cancel culture" is far more pervasive than anything the left does. Face it, even now that we're being told to "move on, Trump lost", the right is still embracing all his bullshit and STILL sucking on his dingleberries, lest they be "cancelled" and face the wrath of Trump and the ire of his gullible followers. You'd think gays would be more savvy, and they mostly are, but there's still some easily led sociopaths out there who support the wingnut bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 420June 28, 2021 3:08 PM
Right-wingers are basically old, scared, well-off and averse to change.

That's a conservative. That's why people become more conservative as they age and mature. They need a reason for change. The youth just want to change for change's sake.

Obviously there are reasons why things need to change in some areas. Progressing toward a known goal that society agrees upon is ideal. Moving down that road can be a societal good. Driving a bulldozer down that road and mowing people down in your path so YOU can get there sooner is not normally a societal good.

by Anonymousreply 421June 28, 2021 7:12 PM

Stupid people like sitting around letting other people tell them what to think, what to be angry about, what to demand, etc. Gays who are rightwing are stupid, just like non-gay right wingers are stupid. Stupid is as stupid does. You can have a genius IQ but be naive, or easily swayed, or eager to please others or bloody minded and those character traits make you susceptible to propaganda. People want to be part of a group. They want acceptance. They want to be around others who think like they do.

by Anonymousreply 422June 28, 2021 7:25 PM

Why doesn’t everyone think the way I do! I’m so open minded! 🤡

by Anonymousreply 423June 28, 2021 7:57 PM

In my conversations with most gays, they'll spit venom when speaking Trump's name but when you actual start talking specifics, they will reveal their opinions to be far more nuanced.

by Anonymousreply 424June 28, 2021 8:04 PM

Eh I'd say young people have a lot to want to mow down these days. The national economy collapsed TWICE in 15 years. There was a huge, killer epidemic that every level of government failed to effectively combat and it also revealed the poisonous selfishness of most Americans. Housing and education and health care (which are sort of essential!) are stratospherically more expensive than they were even 10 years ago. It's 110 in Portland, OR in June. The west is dry and burning.

What's so fucking great for them to be conservative about?

by Anonymousreply 425June 28, 2021 8:19 PM

Do you have a mirror? Because everything you say I would describe as the Left. You actually don’t think. How is it possible to say nothing about Islam and support Gays? How the fuck is that possible. I am not talking about people. I am talking about saying nothing about a Religion that atm kills and imprisons Gays in every country they are a majority in , except TurKey. How can you support Trans rights when effectively it erases Women and Gay people by saying you can be anything you fucking like? This current Left bullshit has a direct effect on me and people I love.

by Anonymousreply 426June 29, 2021 12:59 AM

You don't love anyone R426, because you aren't a person. You're an act.

by Anonymousreply 427July 5, 2021 8:27 PM

“Why are there so many gay right wingers?”

Because once we achieve a certain wisdom (age) we realize the leftist ideals we were forced to embrace in our youth, actually don’t work. It’s all a facade to take our tax dollars. I’m at the age where I intend to keep every dollar that I earned. How many rabid leftist people out there are over 50? Not too many.

by Anonymousreply 428July 5, 2021 8:35 PM

Actually, R428, what you mean is :"with age comes greed." As it applies to you. I'm 64, still a "rabid" leftist, and most of my friends are as well. All of my gay friends are. People like you are why we had Trump.

by Anonymousreply 429July 5, 2021 8:39 PM

R429, not R428 but you fail to realize that with age comes a realization that in the end no one will take care of you but yourself. That leads to the ability to spot hucksters and those who want to grift off you and your work.

Maybe you should define "rabid" leftist. I'll bet you have a comfortable life and probably a nice pension or inheritance.

by Anonymousreply 430July 5, 2021 8:51 PM

r428, it's leftist ideals like Social Security, Medicare, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Labor and Workers Right Movement that you're not toiling in a gulag somewhere to live out your sad, pathetic days but you got yours so fuck everyone else.

by Anonymousreply 431July 5, 2021 11:19 PM
I'm 64, still a "rabid" leftist, and most of my friends are as well.

How do you demonstrate your Leftism, R429?

Do you give cash away? Do you invite poor people into your house? Can I come and live in your house? I am house-trained.

by Anonymousreply 432July 5, 2021 11:24 PM

r429, that pretty much sums it up. It's greed. Funny how leftist ideals don't work except when they do, not to mention those Scandinavian countries seem to be doing better than everyone else on the planet but sure.

by Anonymousreply 433July 5, 2021 11:26 PM

Oh yea those Swedes who happily cooperated with the Nazis. Those Swedes whose great Covid plan was to sacrifice the elderly and medically vulnerable rather than give up eating in restaurants and socializing.

by Anonymousreply 434July 6, 2021 2:40 AM

r434, Scandinavian countries rank at or near the top for highest quality of life and standard of living, safest countries to live, best social mobiblity, least corrupt governments, best healthcare systems, highest life expectancy, best infrastructure, and routinely rank as the best places to live in the world. Like I said they seem to be doing better than everyone else on the planet but 'Merica best cuz 'Merica said so.

by Anonymousreply 435July 6, 2021 3:22 AM

Purity tests are for extremists, r432. Stop with that nonsense.

Fine as long as they remain homogeneous.

Diversity isn't working out so well in Sweden.

It is now the most gun violent country in Europe.

Denmark is a model country for quality of life.

And one of the most conservative there is.

by Anonymousreply 437July 6, 2021 6:16 PM

Denmark is a tiny, densely populated country that cannot take in unlimited refugees. The US is a giant, rich country with many depopulated cities (depopulated not by WOKENESS and PRO-CRIME DEMONRATS, but by capitalism) that could do with an influx of immigrants.

by Anonymousreply 439July 6, 2021 6:41 PM
Denmark is a tiny, densely populated country that cannot take in unlimited refugees. The US is a giant, rich country with many depopulated cities...

Don't fool yourself: Denmark's migration policy is designed to keep the country as pure as possible.

But not even vast countries like Canada or Australia give an unreined welcome to economic migrants.

by Anonymousreply 440July 6, 2021 6:52 PM

Canada and Australia's population together isn't even half of the US population. We could take in enormous number of refugees and not really notice. R440 and his type are paranoid racists who cloak their xenophobia in economic nationalism that conveniently evaporates when the a worker wants to unionize or strike.

by Anonymousreply 441July 6, 2021 7:00 PM

Economic nationalism is a good thing.

And I believe in workers unions, the right to strike and living wages.

r437,While Sweden’s gun violence has risen it is still in the top 7 safest countries in the world. In 2020 Sweden had 366 incidents of shootings with 47 being fatal. To put that in perspective, this past July 4th, 2021 weekend in the US, there were more than 500 shooting incidents with more than 230 people fatally shot. Sweden’s overall crime rate is so low they have closed 4 state run prisons for lack offenders. Also Denmark has what are considered the most restrictive gun control laws in all of Europe. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t gun control one of the big liberal/leftist policies?

Claiming Denmark as one of the most conservative countries there is just laughable. It’s one of the most liberal. In Denmark, same-sex sexual activity was legalized in 1933. In 1929, Denmark was one of the first to pass protective gender change laws in the world. It was the first country in the world to grant legal recognition to same-sex unions in the form of registered partnerships in 1989. They were the first or among the first to allow gay couples to adopt, serve in the military without hindrance. Denmark has one of the most comprehensive sex education lessons in the world, including since 1981, they have set up supplementary sex education lessons giving information about same-sex relationships to senior classes in state schools. Denmark is one of the most liberal alongside New Zealand, Sweden, Iceland, Switzerland, Slovenia, Ireland, Finland, Canada, Norway, Portugal, Uruguay, and the UK.

But please do explain how Denmark is as you say “one of the most conservative there is” especially when the most conservative countries on the planet are Yemen, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Chad, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Nepal, Kuwait, Swaziland, Mali, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Turkey, Morocco. I’m very interested in your definition of conservative.

Right-wingers pull this shit all the time. This week, to be right wing is to hate immigrants. Never mind that the Right spent a generation hating on gays and women dressing slutty and birth control, which allies them quite closely with ultra-conservative Muslim nations (I sometimes thought the collective right-wing freakout over Sharia was professional jealousy).

No, to be conservative is an ever-shifting set of priorities. They define what it is today and memory-hole what it was 10 minutes ago.

by Anonymousreply 450July 6, 2021 11:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 451July 6, 2021 11:45 PM

r447, yeah I really don't get why to you think immigration policies trump every other policies and determines whether a country is liberal or conservative. Denmark having tough immigration policies does not make it quote "one of the most conservative there is." That's just objectively and provably false.

by Anonymousreply 452July 6, 2021 11:54 PM

To put that in perspective, compare it with the figures of only 5 years ago. And why are you comparing Sweden to the US?? Compare it to the rest of Europe. Dumb ass."

Because US right wing conservatives like you are making claims that liberal policies don't work (ignoring the liberal policies you benefit from) so I'm pointing out far more liberal countries that doing better than most of the world. That you can only nitpick Sweden's higher gun violence rate in relation to other liberal European countries only proves the fact that liberal policies do work. Sweden is ranked in the top 7 safest countries in the world. So what do you think you're accomplishing dumbass by pretending Sweden is some hellscape?

by Anonymousreply 453July 7, 2021 12:00 AM

Denmark has what are considered the most restrictive gun control laws in all of Europe. So for those of you going on and on about Sweden's gun violence rate you're essentially making the argument they need to go even further to the left and incorporate Denmark's far left gun control laws. So we all agree leftist policies work.

by Anonymousreply 454July 7, 2021 12:04 AM
yeah I really don't get why to you think immigration policies trump every other policies and determines whether a country is liberal or conservative.

The country is FUNDAMENTALY white supremist.

by Anonymousreply 455July 7, 2021 12:10 AM

r455, having tough immigration laws does not inherently make a country white supremacist. Denmark is not even in the top 5 most restrictive immigration policies in Europe.

by Anonymousreply 456July 7, 2021 12:18 AM

R456 Man are you dense.

Denmark has gone way beyond a mere "immigration policy".

See the post at R449 for starters.

The country is fundamentally white supremist.

by Anonymousreply 457July 7, 2021 12:29 AM

OP et al: If you’re not a left progressive, you’re right-wing.

OP doesn’t actually want answers, because any answers are surely just coming from Boris.

by Anonymousreply 458July 7, 2021 12:44 AM

r457, the dense one is you. Denmark is not fundamentally a white supremacist nation. And using some sensationalist blog opinion from a third-tier non-profit organization doesn't make it so. But you keep moving those goal posts. You went from it's one of the most conservative countries there is (until you learned of their LGBTQ record, gun control laws, generous welfare state and a reputation for progressive politics) now it's they're fundamentally white supremacist.

The point you're not grasping you moron is despite their current clamp down on asylum immigration the country doesn't suddenly rank as one of the most conservative there is. If you want to talk about their specific immigration policy then sure but don't make stupid ass comments like they're one of the most conservative countries there is when Yemen, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Chad, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Nepal, Kuwait, Swaziland, Mali, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Turkey, Morocco, etc exist. Get real.

by Anonymousreply 459July 7, 2021 2:03 AM

Actually, you are right about one thing r457. Denmark is fundamentally white supremacist just as all white Western nations are. Some to greater degrees than others. I mean in the 1930s, the Germans were fascinated by the global leader in codified racism, the good ole United States and used the US's Jim Crow laws as the blueprint.

For POC in Western nations white supremacy manifests differently, but it manifests whether conservative or liberal. I reminded of an old saying, "the Southern racist is fine with a black neighbor so long as he isn't their boss, the Northern racist is fine with a black boss, so long as he isn't their neighbor."

by Anonymousreply 460July 7, 2021 2:18 AM
Actually, you are right about one thing [R457]. Denmark is fundamentally white supremacist just as all white Western nations are.

It is a white supremist nation in a way that you really can't lump it together with other Western countries.
