Where would cinema be if the Hays code was never established?

Anna May Wong may have been cast in The Good Earth, won the Oscar she richly deserved and didn't live her life a bitter woman.

Taboo topics like abortion, interracial relationships, extramarital sex etc would have entered the public domain through cinema sooner, changing the public perception of these topics forever.
