Do you eat Tuna?

I like mine with celery and pickles. On Rye. Chopped lettuce.

by Anonymousreply 50June 14, 2021 7:50 AM

At a sushi restaurant but I would not dream of eating canned fish. Too similar to cat food.

by Anonymousreply 1June 12, 2021 3:11 PM

Yes, I do.

by Anonymousreply 2June 12, 2021 3:13 PM

I like mine with Albacore.

Apple core?

No—Albacore. It’s a fish.

by Anonymousreply 3June 12, 2021 3:13 PM

Tunas be top o' the food chain -- full of radioactive elements from Fukushima. Eat up and glow!

by Anonymousreply 4June 12, 2021 3:18 PM

That sounds good, OP.

I want to start eating more fish, but I’m worried about poison, and my boyfriend hates it so I don’t think I could ever get away with cooking it here unless he goes out of town on a work trip. I do buy canned salmon from time to time.

by Anonymousreply 5June 12, 2021 3:28 PM

I THOT i SMELT fish!

by Anonymousreply 6June 13, 2021 4:32 AM

chopped dill pickles and slices of green Olives. Only solid white tuna though. I like to eat it scooped onto cheddar sunchips or on 7 grain bread. yum.

by Anonymousreply 7June 13, 2021 4:49 AM

I learned recently the revolting custom of drinking the water packed in the can as soon as you remove the lid

by Anonymousreply 8June 13, 2021 4:53 AM

That makes sense r8, if you're a cat

by Anonymousreply 9June 13, 2021 4:55 AM

Avoid it at all costs.

by Anonymousreply 10June 13, 2021 4:57 AM

I've recently started to add sweet pickles/ bread and butter chips like a lot of restaurants do

And black pepper, parmesan, Italian dressing and Dijon mustard

Costco's Kirkland tuna is best store-bought brand

by Anonymousreply 11June 13, 2021 5:02 AM

I do. Albacore. Mayo, LOTS of celery & onion, diced sweet pickled jalapeños (w/a bit of the juice), and hard boiled egg. I sometimes throw in sliced olives of some kind (I love them all).

Whatever I use, the bread must be toasted. I too like it on rye, OP, or a very seedy, grainy bread. Sometimes, I like to line an everything style hotdog bun with four half slices of really good tomato (two on each side), and spinach or spring mix before adding the tuna salad.

Oh, and I DON'T spread additional mayonnaise onto the bread while building the sandwich. There's more than enough in the salad itself. It's always bothered me when people do that. But I also love dry toast, so...go figure.

by Anonymousreply 12June 13, 2021 5:05 AM

I was a pescetarian and I used to LOVE tuna even though I know it’s cheap. I haven’t craved it in a few years and I’m not sure I’ll eat fish again. Partially due to how polluted the waterways of earth are.

by Anonymousreply 13June 13, 2021 5:21 AM

Albacore with mayo, celery, and a little curry powder. On toasted sourdough topped with sliced avocado.

by Anonymousreply 14June 13, 2021 5:24 AM

I rarely eat tuna, but when I do it is fresh and either raw or lightly seared on each side (my preferred preparation). Canned tuna sucks. Even albacore.

by Anonymousreply 15June 13, 2021 5:28 AM

R15 seared tuna is disgusting

by Anonymousreply 16June 13, 2021 5:30 AM

I am a homosexual. No tuna for me, EVAH.

by Anonymousreply 17June 13, 2021 5:33 AM

Albacore is by far the most mercury-laden type of tuna. In terms of minimizing mercury consumption, you are much better buying chunk light tuna. (Link below). Albacore has 3 times the amount of mercury in it as an equal amount of chunk light. Plus the texture of canned albacore is much drier than that of chunk light, which usually is from different species of tuna - skipjack or yellowfin tuna, so that much more mayonnaise is needed to moisten it . When I can find it, I prefer chunk light packed in oil. It is more flavorful than water packed tuna. I squeeze out most of the oil, add a little mayo and some sweet pickle juice with a little bit of diced pickle, and I'm good.

No

by Anonymousreply 20June 13, 2021 5:50 AM

Are you kidding?! YES!! I eat lots and lots of tuna! It is really tasty!

by Anonymousreply 21June 13, 2021 5:55 AM

Has anyone made a lesbian joke yet in this thread? I feel like I could do so and totally get more likes than anyone else because it’s just so clever!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 22June 13, 2021 5:58 AM

It reminds me of making tuna sandwiches with my grandma: Mayo & pickles, & only oil packed tuna.

by Anonymousreply 23June 13, 2021 6:15 AM

What r18 said, but also add finely chopped celery and carrots, caraway seeds, lemon juice, fresh ground pepper. Chill overnight.

Serve on toasted dill rye bread. Pickles on the side.

by Anonymousreply 24June 13, 2021 8:22 AM

canned tuna ( sirena ) finely chopped carrot, chives, lemon juice, mayo and white pepper

by Anonymousreply 25June 13, 2021 10:23 AM

Only fresh, lightly seared and served with anchovy mayo.

by Anonymousreply 26June 13, 2021 10:28 AM

Yes. With celery, sweet pickle, a tablespoon or so of brown mustard, hard boiled egg, mayo, and a little onion.

Either on toasted rye with lettuce, or as a melt on rye with cheddar or Swiss cheese.

Divine!

by Anonymousreply 27June 13, 2021 10:49 AM

I do, I'm trying to eat more protein and a lot fewer carbs, and canned tuna and salmon are good quick-fix proteins. Mix in a little chopped celery, onion, and dijon and have it with bread & butter pickles.

I prefer fresh tuna filets but I'm living in the Midwest and that's not gonna happen.

by Anonymousreply 28June 13, 2021 11:07 AM

I love tuna and eat it at least 3 times a week. I can't eat meat, but I can eat most fish and tuna is a favorite. I do hate canned tuna though. When I buy prepared tuna I always buy the type packaged in the packets, especially the spiced varieties. I love to pan cook tuna filets in a butter sauce with sliced onions and green olives.

by Anonymousreply 29June 13, 2021 11:14 AM

Yuck! Might as well go straight then to eat that shit

by Anonymousreply 30June 13, 2021 11:15 AM

I do a mayo/green onion/gherkin or sweet mix pickle for my tuna salad. Pickled ginger and/or chillies as well if I have them.

Love tuna sushi and sashimi.

by Anonymousreply 31June 13, 2021 3:01 PM

R18 I agree with you. I used to buy white tuna packed in water. I switched to light tuna in oil and it's much tastier. I remember Julia Child asking why anyone would want to eat tuna packed in water.

by Anonymousreply 32June 13, 2021 3:29 PM

Only really fresh.

by Anonymousreply 33June 13, 2021 3:33 PM

Yes. Chunk light tuna in oil (I hate Albacore, it's dry as shit), some Frank's Red Hot, Hellman's mayo, Hoffman's sharp cheddar, and some crusty Italian bread fresh from the bakery.

by Anonymousreply 34June 13, 2021 3:58 PM

You know those who portray themselves online like they are straight out of a Grey Poupon commercial and claim they never eat tuna out of a can have ingested male DNA from every region supporting human life

by Anonymousreply 35June 13, 2021 6:28 PM

"I prefer fresh tuna filets but I'm living in the Midwest and that's not gonna happen."

You must be a poor. In the 21st century, believe it or not, fresh tuna is delivered to markets and restaurants in the Midwest.

P.S. It's even delivered to Kansas

No wonder R28 can't get the right fish. Just try a different store.

Yes, but I hate celery and pickles, so if I need a crunch factor it'd be adding scallion (spring onion).

by Anonymousreply 39June 13, 2021 6:41 PM

Scallions are not going to provide any crunch factor at all. Once they're mixed in they'll basically turn to mush.

by Anonymousreply 40June 13, 2021 6:51 PM

Depends on the salt content. Right balance and they will be "pickled" and will retain crunch.

by Anonymousreply 41June 14, 2021 1:04 AM

I avoid all tuna

by Anonymousreply 42June 14, 2021 1:11 AM

Totally gross and disgusting. It's cat food.

by Anonymousreply 43June 14, 2021 1:11 AM

How I lost a hundred pounds in nine months:

A single yogurt for breakfast, along with a huge mug of black coffee. Full fat, usually Greek yogurt.

One can of albacore tuna for lunch. I refrigerated it, sprinkled salt and pepper on it after opening, and ate it straight from the can.

Anything I wanted for dinner, but never after 8:00 PM.

The thought of eating canned tuna disgusted me for a few weeks, but I noticed after a month that I started salivating in anticipation of eating tuna, and only tune, for lunch. I ate lunch at 11:50 each day. Eventually I started adding some onion salt instead of plain salt, and a tiny squirt of mayonnaise or yellow mustard. In retrospect, it shocks me how the weight melted off.

So, OP, yes I eat tuna, both fresh and from a can, but not nearly as much as I once did.

by Anonymousreply 44June 14, 2021 1:15 AM

I eat tuna right out of the can, as well, R44. Solid white packed in oil,. I don't add anything to it.. But yes, R1, I do sometimes feel like a cat when I do it

My secret ingredient in tuna salad: toasted pine nuts. Gives a nice crunch that is way better than celery, and also gives a nice added flavor. But toasted. Not raw.

by Anonymousreply 46June 14, 2021 3:42 AM

Once in awhile. Probably twice a year...and i don't understand the people that are putting hard boiled egg in there. And I like the way I prepare it the best: sweet relish (or sweet pickle chopped), celery finely chopped, mayo and brown mustard. I've put capers in it too, which I like. I really love it with avocado, sprouts and sweet, summer tomatoes. In a pita pocket or on toast (rye or a really good wheat with wheat berries in it).

And on occasion, in sushi (which i rarely eat anymore, as it was usually a social meal thing).

by Anonymousreply 47June 14, 2021 4:04 AM

Way too many "ands" used up there. i can't even say i am Sunday/Funday/Drunk.

by Anonymousreply 48June 14, 2021 4:33 AM

I always crack up about the tuna can urban legend: a frau peels off the label off her tuna, only to learn it’s CAT FOOD she’s been eating.

by Anonymousreply 49June 14, 2021 6:54 AM

Why do you feel the need to anything?

It's delicious on its own.
