People who don't like animals are sociopaths
What are your thoughts? I just don't trust anyone who actively dislikes animals or who admits they've never had pets. I'm an animal lover and since childhood have had an animal companion of some sort. When I was a kid we had dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, rabbits, ferrets, etc.
Sociopaths or just plain old narcissists?

Most people, especially the bitches, are too loathsome for anyone to tolerate them. If it weren't for animals, they'd all die alone.

and some people R1 tolerate animals better than humans.
The Trump's never had pets. Enough said.

I'm reading the Sue Mengers bio and it talks about how she despised pets of any kind. The only animals she liked were the dead ones on her dinner plate.

I also believe that allowing kids a pet teaches empathy and responsibility.

I'm a serious animal lover but disagree that there's something wrong with people who don't have them. I never had a pet while I was growing up. Also, animals have their own lives and shouldn't be thought of as being there to teach anyone anything.

Yea….I guess that’s why he killed his dog and the pups with cyanide

Hitler may have liked dogs…but he wasn’t an animal lover

People who enjoy abusing, hurting, torturing and killing animals would be a sign of sociopathy. Those who want to stay away from one are good in my book.

Agreed, OP. People who don't like animals tend to be completely deficient in empathy (as well as compassion and kindness). Trump was a perfect example of this.
Humans who look at animals and fail to see they have everything we have -- emotions, families, children -- are humans who are also most likely to hurt other humans as well. Mahatma Gandhi once said "the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
He was correct.

Having raised everything from cats, dogs, pigs, hamsters, rabbits, and even a peacock I feel sad for people who have never had pets but I dont think it's the same as the people who profess not to like animals.

I love animals and increasingly prefer their company to that of many adult humans.
I'm wary of making generalizations about people who don't, though. I don't particularly like most children (unruly, loud, and completely uninteresting, IMHO) but I keep this to myself as many will form judgements about any adult who dislikes children. Some think those adults are psychopaths, selfish, narcissistic, lacking in decency, etc.

How could anyone not love animals? Just look into their eyes. So guileless. Sincere. Except of course, for my kittykat She Who Shall Not Be Named, RIP.

I like them from afar. I don't like dogs putting their assholes on my furniture.

OP conflates two completely different things: disliking animals and not having pets.

I think that's more complicated than that. I know people who have dogs and their dogs is everything in their lives and some of these people are seriously misanthropist. I guess you can be misanthropist without being sociopath but some traits are shared.

The only people worse than people who don't like animals are people who profess to love animals and hate people.

As are people who obsess over them. I love my dog, but psychos who take their dogs to coffee shops, Lowes etc are desperate lunatics.

You seem quite desperate for approval, OP. Most people who have to tell others that they love pets are emotionally unstable. (Notice how stupid it is to make sweeping generalizations?)

Not really R24.
R23 service dogs are fine but the ones who take their nippy little fluff balls or pit bulls around claiming they are "emotional support" dogs are nuts IMO.

My older brother was a classic sociopath. He never related to the animals my sister and I liked--parakeet and cats--or ever showed any sympathy for the natural world. (My oldest brother rode horses and brought me tadpoles to raise, then put them back in a stream. ) At my mother's crazy request, at age 16, Sociopath shot my kittens (I was seven). A couple of years later, when he was 18, he let my turtles die while the rest of the family was on vacation. I thought he'd changed by the time he was in his forties and owned a cat, so I asked him to feed my cats while I was gone, but later he told me, "Your cats are fat so I didn't feed them every day." Very destructive person who pretty much destroyed the personalities of his wife and daughter. Pay attention when someone is cruel/negligent toward animals.

I am with R16 as it is more complicated. I know some warm, caring people who never had a pet growing up or lived on a farm and are basically afraid of animals. I also know some devoted dog owners or animal rights folks who are vile to the people around hem. I totally agree that early animal abuse seems to have a strong correlation to sociopathy. I also find that I generally like animal lovers better. However, everyone doesn’t have to like your loud, unruly pet to qualify as a decent, normal person.
