My ice cream has absorbed food odors from the freezer

Will a box of baking soda help prevent that in the future, or do I just need to eat my ice cream faster?

by Anonymousreply 46June 13, 2021 5:52 PM

I once read that saran wrap and aluminum foil keep out most of the freezer smell.

by Anonymousreply 1June 11, 2021 11:35 PM

Buy smaller containers, OP and, yes, eat it faster.

by Anonymousreply 2June 11, 2021 11:36 PM

And you call yourself a fat whore? You need to shovel faster to keep up with us!

by Anonymousreply 3June 11, 2021 11:38 PM

OP types anorexic.

by Anonymousreply 4June 11, 2021 11:40 PM

So baking soda doesn’t do the trick?

by Anonymousreply 5June 11, 2021 11:56 PM

I don’t have any odors in my freezer...never had that happen. What sorts of things do you have in there, Jeffrey?

by Anonymousreply 6June 12, 2021 12:04 AM

You need to check the freezer for icy build up and make sure the air can flow between the compartments easily. The ice can trap food scents.

While you’re at it, pull that thing away from the wall and vacuum the coils. It’ll help the motor last longer (less dust = less stress on the motor) and you’ll save yourself some money.

by Anonymousreply 7June 12, 2021 12:06 AM

Time to get a Subzero.

by Anonymousreply 8June 12, 2021 12:21 AM

You will get much sympathy from DLers over your ruined ice cream OP

You can count on it.

by Anonymousreply 9June 12, 2021 12:23 AM

R9, oh, I still ate it.

by Anonymousreply 10June 12, 2021 12:24 AM

You ice cream made it of the Kroger parking lot?

by Anonymousreply 11June 12, 2021 12:29 AM

What kind of ice cream was it? If it was neopolitan or pralines & cream it belongs in the garbage anyway.

by Anonymousreply 12June 12, 2021 12:35 AM

Ice cream is only sold in single-serving containers, OP. I’m worried about you.

by Anonymousreply 13June 12, 2021 12:41 AM

Spray some Fabreze on it.

by Anonymousreply 14June 12, 2021 12:41 AM

R12, I should have been more specific. It was a box of Klondike bars.

by Anonymousreply 15June 12, 2021 12:44 AM

If your freezer has food odors, you should clean it. That will prevent any future problems with your ice cream.

by Anonymousreply 16June 12, 2021 1:00 AM

Agree re the ice build up. Traps odors from other foods.

Do you buy a lot of frozen boxed foods, like fish fillets or fish sticks? Or frozen veggies in a box (like Birdseye). Those cause odor issues.

by Anonymousreply 17June 12, 2021 2:22 AM

R17, I do. I’m a bad gay.

by Anonymousreply 18June 12, 2021 2:25 AM

r14 has the right idea. Spray a little Febreze in your ice cube trays and make ice cubes. The cubes will then absorb the odors.

by Anonymousreply 19June 12, 2021 2:27 AM

I thought so OP. I've had the same problem, don't feel bad. Can't break my love of frozen Gorton's fish. The only thing that helped me later was getting a freezer with drawer compartments, solved the problem.

Defrost your freezer regularly. And try to avoid the boxed frozen items. If you must purchase them, try wrapping them in saran wrap, or take them out of the box and put them in sealable freezer bags.

r19 Febreeze in a freezer? It's not a living room. Febreeze doesn't absorb odor, it masks it.

by Anonymousreply 20June 12, 2021 2:30 AM

I recommend covering the odoriferous ice cream in generous amounts of syrups and handfuls of sprinkles to ensure the smell is smothered before ingesting.

by Anonymousreply 21June 12, 2021 2:34 AM

If you don't have sprinkles and syrups, you could also swish a little Febreze in your mouth before eating the smelly ice cream.

by Anonymousreply 22June 12, 2021 2:39 AM

Clean your fucking freezer, ya filthy cow!

by Anonymousreply 23June 12, 2021 2:50 AM

Do I put the Febreeze cubes into my drinks? Instructions not clear.

by Anonymousreply 24June 12, 2021 4:45 AM

OP doesn’t wipe properly.

by Anonymousreply 25June 12, 2021 4:52 AM

Ew.

by Anonymousreply 26June 12, 2021 4:54 AM

[quote] Do I put the Febreeze cubes into my drinks? Instructions not clear.

If you chose to swish Febreeze in your mouth, I recommend throwing out the ice cubes once they absorb the stink fumes. Too much Febreeze in your system can give you an upset stomach.

by Anonymousreply 27June 12, 2021 1:39 PM

Put ice cream & other food products to freeze in separate, tightly closed Tupperware or similar plastic containers. Wash containers thoroughly prior to replacing contents.

by Anonymousreply 28June 12, 2021 1:47 PM

OP, what did you do for your Klondike bars? 😉

by Anonymousreply 29June 12, 2021 1:55 PM

R29, I actually started a thread about that!

by Anonymousreply 30June 12, 2021 2:13 PM

This one pairs nicely with a Klondike Bar.

Freezing temps inhibit odors. What in the world are you storing in your freezer OP, cat shit?

by Anonymousreply 32June 12, 2021 4:50 PM

R32 is correct. OP had some 'splain' to. I personally am of the opinion that OP gobbled up all the ice cream, felt remorse then foisted a cockamaimy tale to cover her tracks.

by Anonymousreply 33June 12, 2021 11:16 PM

I read the opener as

[quote]My ice cream has absorbed foot odors from the freezer

I like my version better!

by Anonymousreply 34June 12, 2021 11:27 PM

I am absolutely in love with this OP and his responses.

And I plan to marry some of you other fuckers, based solely on your responses.

by Anonymousreply 35June 12, 2021 11:31 PM

[quote] You ice cream made it of the Kroger parking lot?

Jesus!

by Anonymousreply 36June 12, 2021 11:32 PM

Eat it faster, fat who’re.

And Chrissy at R13 is right.

by Anonymousreply 37June 12, 2021 11:37 PM

So you're a DIRTY FAT WHORE?

by Anonymousreply 38June 12, 2021 11:45 PM

[quote] Freezing temps inhibit odors. What in the world are you storing in your freezer OP, cat shit?

Where else am I supposed to store it? If I put it in the refrigerator, the smell is MUCH worse.

by Anonymousreply 39June 12, 2021 11:47 PM

R39 is an imposter!

by Anonymousreply 40June 12, 2021 11:47 PM

What’s wrong with Neapolitan?!

by Anonymousreply 41June 13, 2021 1:36 AM

Separately those flavours are ok, but all together its a strange strawberry/chocolate artificial concoction that cant seem to make up its mind on what it is trying to be. But I suppose I have swallowed worse things in my life.

by Anonymousreply 42June 13, 2021 1:58 AM

I like the three flavors/colors together in that brick. Reminds me of childhood.

My favorite is peppermint stick, though.

by Anonymousreply 43June 13, 2021 2:13 AM

[quote] What’s wrong with Neapolitan?!

They’re not considered real dagos. Too far north.

by Anonymousreply 44June 13, 2021 11:25 AM

What the hell do you have in your freezer that stinks so bad? Your landlady?

by Anonymousreply 45June 13, 2021 1:16 PM

I had a rather mad friend who had a mad blind wife. They lived in a mobile home and I visited. He described a mad neighbor who, when they were visiting, told him to get some ice for his wife's Pepsi (She only drank Pepsi. Period.) in the freezer, and just to move the dog to get at it.

The neighbors' dog had died so she put it in the freezer, "Because I just didn't know what else to do with it." My friend asked why she didn't just have her son bury it. She said, "All that is just so much trouble."

My friend's wife drank her Pepsi with the morgue ice in it. When in Rome (so long as it wasn't Coke).
