And Prince Phillip and my late mother would have turned 100 today.

99 Bottles of Pills on the Wall, 99 Bottles of Pills . . .

by Anonymousreply 8June 10, 2021 6:48 PM

Is that why they're featuring a bunch of her films on TCM today?

by Anonymousreply 9June 10, 2021 7:16 PM

But truly.....the way this builds, the emotion it builds to.....stunning. Masterpiece.

I know.......

Every song was a three act biographical drama.

Unparalleled genius.

She wanted to preface "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" by saying "This is for you, Jack" but the network brass thought it was too political and wouldn't allow it.

by Anonymousreply 15June 10, 2021 7:41 PM

Poor Judy. Even glammed up she looked plain. That was one of her demons. She never thought she measured up in beauty, especially when her competition was the cream of the MGM glamour girl crop. I think she would have traded all her talent if she could only look like Lana Turner, who she considered to be "true beauty."

by Anonymousreply 16June 10, 2021 7:46 PM

Aren't we lucky she didn't?

by Anonymousreply 17June 10, 2021 7:49 PM

Judy was never going to get to 99. Even 47 was an overachievement.

by Anonymousreply 18June 10, 2021 7:52 PM

SHE was part of the ORIGINAL Rat Pack.

by Anonymousreply 19June 10, 2021 8:44 PM

I wonder if the old drunk would still be croaking out OTR.

by Anonymousreply 20June 10, 2021 8:58 PM

"A Star Is Born" is on TCM right now. (Preceded by "Summer Stock," "The Pirate," and "Till the Clouds Roll By." The next scheduled film is "Riot In Juvenile Prison." I don't think Judy's in that one.

Back when Stars were truly Stars!

What a time that must've been.

Judy was one of the most talented singers ever. She also had a lot of pain and struggle throughout her life. Despite that, she had a good heart, which is hard to encounter in Hollywood. At a time when gay men were oppressed beyond belief, they identified with her struggles, and she theirs.

Somebody recently uploaded on-line this interesting unedited news footage of the crowds gathered outside of the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel on the Upper East Side for Judy's viewing and funeral.

New York City on 26 June, 1969 where an estimated 20,000 people lined up to pay their respects at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel in Manhattan, which remained open all night long to accommodate the overflowing crowd. On 27 June, James Mason gave a eulogy at the funeral, an Episcopal service led by the Rev. Peter Delaney of St Marylebone Parish Church, London, who had officiated at her marriage to Deans, three months earlier.
