[quote] American Airlines is asking its headquarters employees to volunteer at DFW International Airport this summer as the carrier faces an influx of summer passengers due to pent-up pandemic demand.

Is their CEO working for free?

Can I volunteer to be a slutty first-class flight attendant on one of the NYC to Dubai flights?

Paywalled. I think it’s safe to assume that’s a job no one would volunteer for. Aren’t they unionized?

Private employees are asked to work for free and we call the newspaper. Teachers are asked to work for free and we call it a Tuesday.

Are these salaried employees? And as a teacher, you aren’t necessarily required to do anything not outlined in your contract. Call your union rep.

The word "volunteer" does not automatically mean "unpaid." You can volunteer for something and still get paid. And in fact, the article clearly states "Hourly workers are being asked to volunteer in place of regular work hours and will get paid for the time at the airport."

Yes that’s what I assumed. Thanks, R5.

OP thinks that everyone in the military (an "all volunteer force") is doing it for free.
