Why the hate for Denzel Washington?

he doesn't seem to be liked very well on DL

by Anonymousreply 34October 3, 2021 12:19 AM

He’s apparently homophobic. And black.

by Anonymousreply 1October 2, 2021 4:01 AM

Arrogant. Sore loser. Which his reaction when he loses the Oscar to Casey Affleck compared to win he loses to Gary Oldman (where he knew he didn't stand a chance. )

by Anonymousreply 2October 2, 2021 4:05 AM

Uncle Tom

by Anonymousreply 3October 2, 2021 4:08 AM

R2 Casey is obviously a skeevy dude, but I couldn’t believe Denzel was actually crying when he lost. I understand Fences was his passion project, but it’s not like he won every award up until that moment and then lost a la Glenn Close. Plus he already has 2 Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 4October 2, 2021 4:09 AM

R2 He was a good sport about losing the Oscar he should’ve won for Malcolm X to Pacino in Scent of a Woman.

by Anonymousreply 5October 2, 2021 4:14 AM

We think he's marvelous!

by Anonymousreply 6October 2, 2021 4:17 AM

Cheated on his wife with Julia Roberts.

by Anonymousreply 7October 2, 2021 4:20 AM

This isn't the entire answer, but in the early 1990s, Will Smith approached Denzel Washington about whether or not to do a scene in Six Degree of Separation requiring him to romantically kiss another male actor. Washington advised him to refuse doing the kiss (even though Smith had signed onto the role knowing full well what it entailed). Apparently, Smith now regrets following his advice.

He knew he'd lose that one. Malcolm X wasn't the critical and box office powerhouse it was thought it was going to be (no Best Picture nominations etc.)

And Pacino had never won.

did he really cry when he lost for Fences? (off to youtube.)

When asked how he feels about Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage, Washington avoids taking a stance.

At first he responds with, “What did he say about it?” Then, when told what the president said, he asks, “What does that mean?” Ultimately, Washington opts to stay out of the fray on the subject: “You know, I think people have the right to believe what they want to believe. And people have the right to disagree with it.”

Speaking of politics, Washington defines himself as an independent.

“In some ways I'm liberal, and other ways I'm conservative,” he says. “We get so locked in on ‘you have to be this or that.’ It's ridiculous.”

Wow he does seem to have some tears in his eyes. Surprising. He's won and lost so many times you think he'd be used to the experience.

BTW I don't believe Brie Larson in her reworked woke attitude that her not clapping for Affleck "spoke for itself." She smiles at him real nicely and then hugs him. I think she just forget to clap since she was onstage and in a sense a performer. The audience claps not the people on stage.

Later on when Affleck wasn't asked to present the next year during #metoo she seemed to allow the people who were speculating to continue thinking she was making a conscious protest. (Also BTW she's such an odd non-descript actress. She could knock on me door tonight and I wouldn't know who she was.

R10 But it’s possible he’s changed his views. One of his daughters is a butch lesbian and he seems supportive of her.

by Anonymousreply 12October 2, 2021 4:29 AM

He did advise Will Smith not to do a gay kiss in Six Degrees of Separation.

He also admits to cheating on his wife. (Why announce it? Poor woman.)

by Anonymousreply 13October 2, 2021 4:32 AM

He’s the worst. Religious but a cheater.

by Anonymousreply 14October 2, 2021 4:32 AM

Didn't he play the bitch in 'Philadelphia'? And now he has the audacity to pretend to be Macbeth. I shall be avoiding that!

by Anonymousreply 15October 2, 2021 4:33 AM

He played the lawyer in Philadelphia.

by Anonymousreply 16October 2, 2021 4:34 AM

The name "Denzel" is a Cornish name.

I blame Ellen Pompeo.

by Anonymousreply 18October 2, 2021 4:39 AM

He's getting fat in the face.

He's getting doughy.

by Anonymousreply 19October 2, 2021 5:01 AM

R16 he was better than Hanks in that movie.

by Anonymousreply 20October 2, 2021 6:27 AM

[quote] that movie.

Yes, a lousy movie. Antonio Banderas should not have been in it.

by Anonymousreply 21October 2, 2021 6:40 AM

Because he took the red pill?

by Anonymousreply 22October 2, 2021 6:54 AM

Bronson Pinchot said he was one of the most awful people he ever worked with. I believe it. He seems like an asshole.

Casey Affleck winning that Oscar was a complete fucking joke.

by Anonymousreply 24October 2, 2021 10:25 PM

He hit me in the head with a fondue pot.

by Anonymousreply 25October 2, 2021 10:29 PM

Yes, R20.

Denzel should have won for that.

by Anonymousreply 26October 2, 2021 11:31 PM

He’s a homophobic asshole and should be cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 27October 2, 2021 11:52 PM

Pentecostal creep, arch conservative asshat.

by Anonymousreply 28October 2, 2021 11:54 PM

Didn't he vote for Trump???

by Anonymousreply 29October 2, 2021 11:54 PM

He’s a good actor. But he’s kind of an asshole. It’s kind of evidence in his interviews.

by Anonymousreply 30October 3, 2021 12:00 AM

He’s not hated any more than any other celeb is hated. And DL hates everyone except for probably the Golden Girls.

by Anonymousreply 31October 3, 2021 12:00 AM

He has the trifecta of being ugly, arrogant and overrated.

by Anonymousreply 32October 3, 2021 12:00 AM

St. Elsewhere was the show that made him a star and he was on for the entire run. Yet when the cast had a reunion a few years ago, he thought he was too good to show up. Even if he didn’t want to attend, he could have at least done a little video clip or given a little statement considering the show gave him his start.

He seems like an arrogant asshole.
