Walmart: Pride Month is Here!
YES, we know it's commercialism and all that. But wouldn't Walmart be more worried about their Deplorables NOT wanting to shop at a company that celebrated Pride?
This is a huge step forward for us! Even after all the Trump insanity, Walmart thinks that gay customers are more important than worrying about how the Deplorables will react.

thanks for posting this. Our world and discourse would be better if we acknowledged positive steps when and where they occur at least as often as we criticize every transgression

In most towns deplorables have no choice but to shop at Walmart. They can't get EVERYTHING at the Dollar Tree

BTW, Walmart sent out a "Pride Month is Here!" email to everyone on their email list, which, no doubt, includes thousands of Deplorables. Alright!!!
ZING!

I'm going to assume this is Walmart's philosophy: "Where else are they gonna go?" or "Where else can they go?" Deplorable shoppers trying to feed deplorable families have limited options when it comes to affordable one stop shopping experiences.

I've recently relocated from the corporate republic of Target (Minneapolis) to the corporate republic of Walmart (Northwest Arkansas). Both corporations and their founding families; the Daytons and the Waltons, spent a good chunk of their wealth (compared to most corporations) building up their communities and helping the disadvantaged. Unfortunately the Daytons no longer control Target and without this family involvement Target now just gives lip service to the community. The Waltons still control Walmart and are investing enough in this area to make it the 4th or 5th fastest growing metro in the country. I've met quite a few Walmart corporate types and by in large they are liberal/left leaning. Enough like minded folks have moved here that there is a good chance we will go blue in the next election.

That's great to read, R10!

R10, are in Eureka Springs?

Also in Arkansas, and we're still outnumbered about 2 to 1 judging by the last election, so I wouldn't hold my breath for the state to go blue in the next couple of decades at least. The best we can hope for is to elect halfway decent Republicans like Hutchison rather than fascist pro-slavery scum like Cotton.

R12 I wish! Eureka is such a perfect throwback/time capsule/experience. If ANYONE on the DL happens to be in Arkansas- it's one of the only places to go. Eureka had a visible influx of gay/lesbian folks as far back as the 70's, - prompting something close to a shooting war with the evangelical locals. It's a battle we won!
I'm in Fayetteville, home of the U of A and the Clintons. Much more of a funky party town, less suburban, more diverse.
R13> No, just our district (the 3rd) is on the verge of turning blue. The state legislature is worried enough that they will try to redistrict the shit out of the area and if you look at the map we already meander across 1/3 of the state.

One of the few DL threads that ever made me feel just a little [italic]better[/italic] about this fucked up country. Thanks again OP

Well, R15, I feel better seeing the positive responses in this thread, too!
Every thread concerning Pride her eon DL this week has been so negative, especially about "corporate sponsors." Are we supposed to want to be reviled and shunned again?
No one has to buy anything that the "corporate sponsors" are selling, including that Pride cereal. But if you want to, do it, and don't worry about unhinged DLers shaming you.
WAL-FUCKING-MART being pro-gay is something I never thought would happen. This is amazing!

They might have Pride on their website, but I bet they don’t have anything promoting Pride in the actual stores, not in the Deplorable areas.
R10, the only trip I’ve taken in the last year was to your area. Bentonville was nice. We visited Bridges Museum. Loved it! Riding around Fayetteville was fun. Spent a day and night in Eureka Springs—what a cool little town.
The only part of the trip I hated was the drive from Bentonville to Eureka Springs and then from ES to the interstate. All those cliffs and drop offs and hairpin turns made my anxiety go through the roof!

That is quite the roller coaster ride, isn't it? When I drove that route a few years ago all the loose items in my car were being flung all over the interior, and I didn't dare take a hand off the wheel to catch anything!

A few years ago I had to drive that route in a raging thunderstorm!

Glad you're still with us. Near Thorncrown Chapel there used to be a curve with a missing bit of guard rail and a tree trunk on the downward slope that was snapped off just below road level.

It didn’t help that my partner drives like we are on the Amazing Race. It is particularly scary around Thorncrown Chapel, but worth the white knuckles to see that beautiful space.

Who cares if the waltons build up their own community when they destroy so many others. Fuck the Waltons.

Eureka Springs is fun. When I was there I had a local shopkeeper catcall me in front of his shop as I walked past. I recommend it….

This is actually a very positive thing - Walmart's a powerful corporation in this country.... now if only they can balance out the right-wing trash from their book section with progressive books.

I was shocked when I saw Pride items at the Dollar Tree recently. I know it’s just rainbow-colored, made in China crap but I still took a moment to notice how far we’ve come if we’re being monetized at the dollar store

HBC sent out a woker than woke email regarding "pride kits".
There's a very... large black woman and some kind of bearded twink in a pink wig and belly-exposing shirt featured in it.

These companies are doing the absolute minimum and they do it every year. Walmart is certainly not using its considerable power to lobby for actual pro-gay policies and government.
The log cabin Republican contingent on this site grows every year.

For R31: At one bedroom and 1,800 square feet, this unassuming house in Fayetteville, Arkansas holds a special place in history. A future United States President and Secretary of State married in the living room and made their first home here in 1975. Almost two decades later the couple would enter the White House. This house served as the backdrop for that fateful day in October of 1975 and was an active center of political activity in Arkansas during the 1970s.

And that ‘absolute minimum’ serves our ultimate goal: to normalize homosexuality. More and more companies do this and it sets the tone for the entire culture. The fundies rage and moan and the companies don’t care because those on our side and those who don’t care one way or another now outnumber them. They are losing the war for the culture, which serves us.
