I just watched Liza with a Z for the first time in years.

God, she was fucking fabulous back in the day.

Dial it back, OP. Your disingenuous is on full blast.

When she died, my 70 year old gay football coach and mentor cried all day. RIP Lisa.

by Anonymousreply 2June 5, 2021 3:18 AM

She's not dead, but I am!

by Anonymousreply 3June 5, 2021 3:19 AM

Pudgy legs.

by Anonymousreply 4June 5, 2021 3:20 AM

TRASH, JUST LIKE HER GAY MAN/BI MAN FETISHIST WHORE MOTHER.

by Anonymousreply 5June 5, 2021 3:20 AM

Lisa Minelli died in 2017, R3. May she rest in peace.

by Anonymousreply 6June 5, 2021 3:21 AM

[quote] I was so blue that day....

Joey, get away from the computer, or I'll bedazzle your ass!

by Anonymousreply 7June 5, 2021 3:23 AM

Liza with a "z," not Lisha with an "shh."

by Anonymousreply 8June 5, 2021 3:35 AM

She was amazing! Singing, dancing, acting and she blew it all away.

by Anonymousreply 9June 5, 2021 3:39 AM

She wash amashing! Shinging, danshing, acting and she blew it all away.

by Anonymousreply 10June 5, 2021 3:40 AM

Funny that Liza died unable to pronounce the Z. She could only make lateral lisping sibilant sounds. Yes. Very much like an ESS. Lisa with and esh. Now it can be told. Her so called encephalitis was a massive stroke. She would have more. But less spectacular. Liza is fondly remembered by the mattresses in the basement of Studio 54 AND in the balcony!

by Anonymousreply 11June 5, 2021 3:43 AM

Liza was a most unique talent. Probably the greatest actress in song. Bernadette ain't bad either - but Liza was far more daring.

That was a great special, talent like that doesn't exist today.

[quote] talent like that doesn't exist today.

*ahem*

by Anonymousreply 14June 5, 2021 4:19 AM

Well, I never in all my life. She just flashed her cooter at me!

by Anonymousreply 15June 5, 2021 4:28 AM

I just saw it on PBS. Amazing. She really was something.

by Anonymousreply 16August 15, 2021 8:38 PM

Fosse knew exactly how to present her. Even her own father did not do as well. No one every presented her as well as Fosse did.

For a while, there were none better than Liza. No one came close. Midler did music and comedy. Streisand did glorious singing. And then there was Liza, a classic MGM-style triple threat.

by Anonymousreply 17August 15, 2021 8:42 PM

I would need significant amounts of money to watch anything with her in it

by Anonymousreply 18August 15, 2021 8:44 PM

[quote]r12 Bernadette ain't bad either - but Liza was far more daring.

There’s something about Peters’ smooshy, kewpi doll style that I can only take in small doses.

I like her better when she’s playing it more straight.

Her cooter was on PBS??!!??

by Anonymousreply 21August 15, 2021 9:03 PM

I had tickets to see her perform in London in the 90's and she Cancelled! Still pissed.

by Anonymousreply 22August 15, 2021 9:13 PM

Liza cancelled an interview with Ruby Wax after she flew an entire crew to Nashville… then years later tried to make up for it with some lame duet with a nobody in a hotel room.

The end was in sight.

Liza was electrifying on stage throughout her entire career.

Liza is a national treasure.

So many roles she would have nailed.

Ever since that fucking Halston show I have been obsessed wth Liza with a Z.. I do it with everyone's name for amusement. Peter with P not Deter with a D cuz Peter with a P goes PFFFT not DUH.

by Anonymousreply 26August 15, 2021 10:34 PM

Liza's career in the 70s was greatly enhanced by both Fosse and Halston. You have to wonder where she'd have ended up without the influence those two men had on her image. Sure, she had a lot of raw talent, but timing and presentation are everything. She found exactly the right influencers at exactly the right moment.

by Anonymousreply 27August 15, 2021 10:42 PM

Yes… but she’d been Oscar nominated in a dramatic role before them. I can see her as just continuing as an actress in the 70s, without all the razzmatazz.

She wouldn’t have been as wealthy, but maybe it could have worked.

by Anonymousreply 28August 15, 2021 11:19 PM

She is one of the few live performers who I have seen bring the audience into the palm of her hand. She, like Pavarotti, Domingo, and Nathan Lane, have a pact with the live audience: come to see me, watch me astound you, and then go wild in appreciation. It was marvelous to see.

by Anonymousreply 29August 15, 2021 11:32 PM

Omg, when did Christine Pedi at r25 turn into such a fatty? Sad.

This one with young Catherine O'Hara as Brooke Shields is even better than the Bernadette Peters one.

by Anonymousreply 35October 15, 2021 3:18 AM

Liza with a z, not Lisha with an shhh

by Anonymousreply 36October 15, 2021 3:19 AM

Are there any pictures of her floating around without makeup?

by Anonymousreply 37October 15, 2021 3:24 AM

She's essentially retired now. She can barely walk without assistance and can't sing anymore. It's a miracle she's made it to 75.

by Anonymousreply 38October 15, 2021 3:30 AM

Liza was an actual triple threat unlike that Bronx cum bucket that has to TELL every reporter she’s multi talented. Liza didn’t say it she SANG IT bitch! JHoe needs to take a seat and watch how it’s done. Liza=Legend. I’ve seen her at her best and her “worst” and she still wipes the floor with a rican low life who can’t hold a note even with auto tune.

by Anonymousreply 39October 15, 2021 1:21 PM

R39, you had me until your racist comment. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 40October 15, 2021 2:13 PM

Camp fest. Camp tastic. Even fosse is camp now

by Anonymousreply 43October 15, 2021 3:01 PM

R40 i like Liza. I saw her at the (end of her) peak & when she lost it. (Terrible: her fill in as Victor/Victoria. Awful: The tribute to her dad) So no: Liza is awful - plain awful - at her worst.

by Anonymousreply 44October 15, 2021 7:12 PM

It'sh Lizha with a Zhee, not Lisha with an Esh, 'caushe Lizha with a Zhee goesh Zhhh not Shhh,

by Anonymousreply 45October 15, 2021 7:18 PM

r44 I saw her at Radio City in the Vincente tribute, too, and yes: it sucked.

She was the only one of Judy's children to get her talent and charisma. Lorna has a good voice but never had any real stage/screen presence.

by Anonymousreply 48October 16, 2021 2:17 PM

She was predestined to grow up to be Judy Garland Jr. Same basic storyline, first time tragedy, second time farce.

by Anonymousreply 49October 16, 2021 3:51 PM

It's just as well that Liza didn't have kids, or the tragedy would have extended into the next generation. Lorna is a minor talent but seems to be a decent mom.

by Anonymousreply 50October 16, 2021 3:53 PM

Is she lip syncing the dancing segment?

by Anonymousreply 51October 16, 2021 5:44 PM

Loved this to the moon, and then found out she's copying her mom's version. Still love it though.

I'd never seen until a few back. Dazzling!

by Anonymousreply 53October 16, 2021 8:05 PM

Ann Reinking was not part of the Liza with a Z chorus but Candy Brown was.

by Anonymousreply 54October 16, 2021 8:40 PM

Do you think at her funeral there will be a horse drawn carriage and an army of dancing chorus boys dressed like they're from the 70s prancing down 5th Avenue? I bet you Miley Cyrus will sing at the memorial. That girl be good but she's like everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 55October 20, 2021 9:49 PM

R44 She came back with two memorable stage shows, Liza's Back and Liza at the Palace, which won her a Tany.

by Anonymousreply 56October 20, 2021 10:03 PM

I say this with complete seriousness: Liza with a Z is a masterpiece, and one of greatest American artworks of the last century.

Both director and star were at the peak of their powers. A concert containing American standards, Broadway choreography, devised especially to be filmed for television. Almost 50 years later, it feels like in 1972 this was the peak of American modernity.

by Anonymousreply 57October 20, 2021 10:04 PM

Saw her in concert and on broadway many times. There’s no one else like her and I fear there never will be again. I may get MARY’d for this but she was electrifying. A star.
