Pop-Tarts®

I know this list isn't comprehensive, but what's your fave among these choices?

[italic]I didn't get into the frosted/unfrosted debate here—not enough spaces—but feel free to comment about frosting.[/italic]

by Anonymousreply 168September 22, 2021 6:04 PM

Frosted Cherry.

by Anonymousreply 1June 4, 2021 12:45 AM

Frosted cherry also. But I pretty much vote cherry in all the fruit polls.

by Anonymousreply 2June 4, 2021 1:02 AM

I’ve been a brown sugar cinnamon man my whole life but just now going through a frosted raspberry phase

by Anonymousreply 3June 4, 2021 1:03 AM

Brown Sugar Cinnamon?? Gross.

by Anonymousreply 4June 4, 2021 1:04 AM

Brown sugar cinnamon? Can't even pretend to have nutrients. How low class.

by Anonymousreply 5June 4, 2021 1:06 AM

Excuse me, brown sugar cinnamon is winning

by Anonymousreply 6June 4, 2021 1:09 AM

r5 wipes back to front.

by Anonymousreply 7June 4, 2021 1:10 AM

Nothing compares to the Frosted Strawberry! Absolutely delicious! I could eat a whole box in one sitting! That is probably why I haven't had one in over a year. lol

by Anonymousreply 8June 4, 2021 1:13 AM

R6, people are for the most part pure trash. Of course it's winning.

by Anonymousreply 9June 4, 2021 1:19 AM

I like blueberry and strawberry best. Frosted or unfrosted, toasted or raw.

When I was growing up our family got this alternative brand that was terrible

by Anonymousreply 11June 4, 2021 3:01 AM

Cherry is my favorite. I buy them sometimes and eat them as a snack because I don't eat breakfast, that way I get my sweet fix and feel like I am getting a few vitamins. HA!

by Anonymousreply 12June 4, 2021 3:04 AM

None. The most overrated breakfast food ever, made popular by American pigdogs and not only is it unhealthy, it's unhealthy AND tastes disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 13June 4, 2021 3:09 AM

I’ve had a pop tart made by a bakery. It was amazing! Now I can’t go back to store-bought pop tarts because they taste like cardboard. It looks easy enough to make at home.

r14 is merely and comprehensively missing the point.

(1) If you're going to bake and you [italic]can[/italic] bake, for god's sake, don't make Pop-Tarts.

(2) And if you want Pop-Tarts, for the love of all that's holy, don't want lovely fresh ones. What you [bold]want[/bold] is to rip open that foil and toast your way to instant happiness. Sheez.

by Anonymousreply 15June 4, 2021 11:17 AM

I don't eat them anymore but Cinnamon Roll is damned delicious, just don't over toast it.

by Anonymousreply 16June 4, 2021 11:51 AM

Why the fuck would you eat a pop tart when toaster strudel exists? Aside from being nearly inedible pop tarts are also a fire hazard.

by Anonymousreply 17June 4, 2021 11:56 AM

The only ones I like are the hot fudge sundae flavor, and only for dessert on a rare occasion, not for breakfast. I briefly had Pop Tarts for breakfast as a kid and they left me hungry after a couple of hours, they are all sugar so not very filling.

by Anonymousreply 18June 4, 2021 12:01 PM

Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon are my all time favorite, un-toasted. They’re very dense and moist. There’s really nothing like them. I know there are people on DL who hate this flavor, and I honestly don’t understand. They’re scrumptious!

by Anonymousreply 19June 4, 2021 12:01 PM

Cinnamon! To me all the fruit flavors taste weak. It’s like there’s not enough filling in them. The frosted cinnamon ones seem to mix with the carb-y, stiff breading perfectly. And the frosting puts it over the top. Un-toasted of course.

by Anonymousreply 20June 4, 2021 12:04 PM

[quote] Why the fuck would you eat a pop tart when toaster strudel exists?

Because Toaster Strudel is gross. Chewy, greasy, gummy, mushy blech. There's a saltiness to Pop-Tarts® ([italic]and yes I always use the registered mark, out of respect[/italic]) that keeps it sophisticated. Toaster Strudels are overly sweet and infantile.

by Anonymousreply 21June 4, 2021 12:08 PM

[quote]pop tarts are also a fire hazard

Danger is my middle name.

by Anonymousreply 22June 4, 2021 12:15 PM

I think having both Cherry and Strawberry in the poll is splitting that vote, since they are basically the same flavor.

by Anonymousreply 23June 4, 2021 12:22 PM

O! how I wish DL could show the quantity of voters and not just the percentages in a poll. I like this one.

by Anonymousreply 24June 4, 2021 12:40 PM

From the results it looks like right now one vote = 0.7% of the vote, meaning about 144 people have voted.

by Anonymousreply 25June 4, 2021 12:43 PM

Thank you for math skills I don't possess.

by Anonymousreply 26June 4, 2021 12:50 PM

You forgot the flavour: Diabetes. As a child I remember trying Pop Tarts for the first time and was totally disgusted by it. it had the thick and hard layer of icing on top and concentrated strawberry sugar (I won't call it jam). Never had another one again.

by Anonymousreply 27June 4, 2021 12:51 PM

R25 or 1440.

by Anonymousreply 28June 4, 2021 12:51 PM

The fruit inside a Pop Tart is a mix of Elmer's school glue and artificial flavoring. In the 1980s when I had blueberry Pop Tarts they didn't taste quite so artificial, and the filling was thicker while the frosting was thinner. They were still little rectangular sugar bombs, but maybe less so than they are today.

by Anonymousreply 29June 4, 2021 12:54 PM

I voted for Brown Sugar Cinnamon but I liked the Blueberry as well, as long as both flavors are unfrosted. There is something about having one of these lightly toasted with a pat of butter on them to melt slowly on top. On Saturdays, Mom would allow us the Chocolate-filled ones with the chocolate icing. Looking back, they really are diabetes in a foil-wrapped packet.

by Anonymousreply 30June 4, 2021 1:02 PM

and that pat of butter addresses any shortcoming in that saturated-fat food group! Good job, r30

by Anonymousreply 31June 4, 2021 1:08 PM

LOL, R30. I agree. I should point out that the last time I had one, I was an active pre-teen. Not someone who sits on their ass most of the day while working, which is what I am now.

by Anonymousreply 32June 4, 2021 1:09 PM

R19 I Cinnamon isn't as good as strawberry, but it's my second choice (if frosted). But how can you eat a pop-tart uncooked??? That is so uncivilized! Were you raised by wolves??

by Anonymousreply 33June 4, 2021 1:16 PM

The package hypes non-toasted as well as frozen. I call bullshit x 2.

by Anonymousreply 34June 4, 2021 1:31 PM

Brown Sugar Cinnamon is "meh" cold, but "Yes!" hot. That one would make no sense if they had an unfrosted version. However, I strongly prefer unfrosted for the regular fruit flavors, such as blueberry or cherry. Unfortunately, they only seem to do that for strawberry, the one flavor I truly dislike.

For those who assume I'm some sort of obese homo, I haven't had a Pop-Tart in a very long time, and that was only a box or two out of a sense of nostalgia rather than eating them regularly.

by Anonymousreply 35June 4, 2021 1:37 PM

American cuisine has for the most part always been unhealthy and gross. I remember as a child during the 1960s the stenches coming from friends' kitchens as their mothers made dinner. Fine pastries were for the most part unavailable. Pop Tarts were in many cases the best you could get. Compared to a bowlful of Sugar Smacks or Wonder Bread toast, they seemed like a decent breakfast at the time.

by Anonymousreply 36June 4, 2021 1:48 PM

Cher will always be my favourite Pop-Tart.

by Anonymousreply 37June 4, 2021 1:52 PM

R37 they're called pop tarts, not pop whores.

by Anonymousreply 38June 4, 2021 2:50 PM

The problem with Pop-Tarts is not enough filling. If you made one with like three times the filling it would be good.

by Anonymousreply 39June 4, 2021 2:54 PM

[quote]For those who assume I'm some sort of obese homo, I haven't had a Pop-Tart in a very long time, and that was only a box or two out of a sense of nostalgia rather than eating them regularly.

Why the fuck do you care what a bunch of strangers on the Internet think of you. Just live your life and stop worrying what others think.

by Anonymousreply 40June 4, 2021 2:55 PM

[quote]Why the fuck would you eat a pop tart when toaster strudel exists?

Not everyone can afford a toaster

by Anonymousreply 41June 4, 2021 2:58 PM

The only ones I liked as a kid were the blueberry.

I remember when the frosted ones were introduced. My mom refused to buy them because "too much sugar".

The blueberry ones she could sort of at least pretend were "healthier", because they had fruit in them, right? Although who knows if they even had real blueberries in them.

(Hey, it was the 70's. People thought a steak, a buttered baked potato, and an chocolate shake was a healthy, nutritious meal.)

I love the Pop-Tart crust. It has a unique dryness that you don't find in French pastries.

by Anonymousreply 44June 4, 2021 8:41 PM

r5 it's a fucking brown sugar cinnamon [italic][bold]landslide[/bold][/italic]. Suck it.

by Anonymousreply 45June 5, 2021 12:54 AM

People who like Brown Sugar Cinnamon also probably eat baby food.

by Anonymousreply 46June 5, 2021 12:58 AM

I feel as if OP hasn't actually tried the pretzel ones. They are amazing.

by Anonymousreply 47June 5, 2021 12:59 AM

The last time I had Pop Tarts was a couple of years ago when I was at a minor Amtrak station and needed to buy breakfast, and they looked like the best option they had in the vending machines. I think they were blueberry. They were fine with a paper cup of instant coffee.

Toaster strudel tastes WAY different now than it did in the late 80s. Back then they were flaky; now they’re crusty, dry, & the filling is gummy.

by Anonymousreply 51June 5, 2021 1:49 AM

I was a fat kid and it was the one thing I would never eat. I found them to be disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 52June 5, 2021 1:52 AM

Frosting is a MUST. Otherwise, what is the point of eating pop-tarts?

by Anonymousreply 53June 5, 2021 1:56 AM

R47: OP here and I was excited to try the pretzel ones when they came out. Sounded intriguing but didn’t work for me

by Anonymousreply 54June 5, 2021 2:24 AM

I never liked toaster strudels... If I do strudels I want them fresh from a bakery, not frozen.... There is a huge difference!

by Anonymousreply 55June 5, 2021 2:40 AM

Fat whores, the lot of you.

by Anonymousreply 56June 5, 2021 2:56 AM

Who the hell eats Pop Tarts without frosting, & also untoasted? What’s the point?

by Anonymousreply 57June 5, 2021 5:16 AM

As a child, I seared my fingers on frosting while eagerly snatching a Pop-Tart from a toaster oven.

This did not bode well.

by Anonymousreply 58June 5, 2021 5:22 AM

R57, Protestants from the Midwest.

by Anonymousreply 59June 5, 2021 10:19 AM

Cold ones without frosting are a bit plain. However, heated ones without frosting work just fine!

by Anonymousreply 60June 5, 2021 10:27 AM

Don’t eat them regularly because I try to avoid sugar and carbs, but during lockdown I decided FUCK IT and ate all my favorite comfort foods for a while. Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tarts almost every morning. I had to dig out my toaster oven. Add a little bit of butter—heaven.

by Anonymousreply 61June 5, 2021 11:34 AM

Britney Spears

by Anonymousreply 62June 5, 2021 11:47 AM

I haven't had one in a long time, but I seem to remember one with a maple frosting -- is that the brown sugar-cinnamon one? I always used to put butter on mine (on the unfrosted side), right after it came out of the toaster. Yum.

by Anonymousreply 63June 5, 2021 11:48 AM

R57 I had a co-worker once who came in my office eating an untoasted pop-tart. I said "What are you doing? How dare you desecrate the pop-tart with such sacrilege." He said "the toaster is broke." I looked at him and screamed: "WE HAVE A MICROWAVE!" "Now get the fuck outta here until you can act like you have some sense!" THE NERVE!

by Anonymousreply 64June 5, 2021 1:18 PM

sacrilege I know, but sometimes I like the OG unfrosted option. The extra sugar blast is overkill sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 65June 5, 2021 1:20 PM

My favorites have always been the brown sugar-cinnamon unfrosted kind, but it seems to me that now they only make the m frosted :-(

by Anonymousreply 66June 5, 2021 1:22 PM

R65 You may as well eat the frosted if you like them... they actually have LESS calories than the unfrosted!

by Anonymousreply 67June 5, 2021 1:39 PM

I liked the peanut butter/chocolate ones they had a few years ago, but they apparently discontinued them.

Tried the pretzel ones - they were dry and in general, just tasted like moldy ass.

by Anonymousreply 68June 5, 2021 1:45 PM

Moldy ass? How do you know what... never mind.

by Anonymousreply 69June 5, 2021 1:50 PM

r66: unfrosted BSC are still listed on the poptarts.com

r67: according to the poptarts site, the calories are the same (210 per pastry), but frosted has 2 more grams of sugar (15 vs 13).

by Anonymousreply 70June 5, 2021 1:57 PM

R70 According to Insider: A single Kellogg's Frosted Strawberry Pop-Tart has 200 calories, while an Unfrosted Strawberry Pop-Tart has 210 calories.

What flavor, r75? And did you vote?

by Anonymousreply 76June 5, 2021 7:07 PM

Thanks, R70. I prefer the unfrosted brown sugar cinnamon ones because, to me, the frosted ones taste a little too sweet. For some reason, every store I know of that carries Pop Tarts only seems to carry the frosted brown sugar cinnamon ones, not the unfrosted.

by Anonymousreply 77June 5, 2021 7:16 PM

Plain strawberry, no icing. I’m one of the only people I know that likes them but I’m not of fan of the icing. Been eating them since I was in pre-school so either my mom or dad must have gotten them for me.

by Anonymousreply 84June 5, 2021 11:17 PM

Pop Tart quality has gone way down over the years. They used to have more filling, it seems. The quality of the pastry seemed like it was better before. My fave was strawberry, frosted, toasted. I did like the brown sugar cinnamon, frosted and toasted, as well.

by Anonymousreply 85June 5, 2021 11:31 PM

Pop-tarts are absolutely disgusting now.

by Anonymousreply 86June 5, 2021 11:32 PM

R85, YES Frosted Strawberry was the best, followed by Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon. Always toasted. The rest of the flavors were just shit!

by Anonymousreply 87June 5, 2021 11:37 PM

According to Wikipedia, over 10,000 tons of pop-tarts are consumed in America every second.

by Anonymousreply 88June 6, 2021 4:10 PM

All you Pop-Tart haters can fugetabout it! They aren't going anywhere. They're like a hot cookie! Who doesn't love that?

by Anonymousreply 89June 6, 2021 4:16 PM

They're insanely sweet - as an adult, how can you like that?

by Anonymousreply 90June 6, 2021 5:48 PM

R90 I did not say I eat them everyday. But they are undeniably delicious. Sugar is a natural high. Don't act like you are above it!

by Anonymousreply 91June 6, 2021 9:06 PM

My ex was horrified when I mentioned they made watermelon poptarts, finding it a racist idea.

by Anonymousreply 92June 6, 2021 9:12 PM

I'm surprised strawberry is so soundly beating raspberry.

by Anonymousreply 93June 7, 2021 12:18 PM

Strawberry, Cherry, and Raspberry Pop-Tarts are all the same flavor!!! Wake up Sheeple!!!

by Anonymousreply 94June 7, 2021 12:46 PM

Nope. Raspberry isn't as sweet, and that bit of tang (along with the bit of saltiness in the crust) is crucial to combat the insane sweetness of the rest of the Tart. That's all why toasting is mandatory.

by Anonymousreply 95June 7, 2021 1:25 PM

R93, because people have the trash taste of babies.

by Anonymousreply 96June 7, 2021 2:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 98June 7, 2021 4:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 102June 7, 2021 7:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 103June 7, 2021 8:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 104June 7, 2021 8:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 105June 7, 2021 9:34 PM

R101 I can't wait for the "whale blubber" flavor.

by Anonymousreply 106June 7, 2021 9:46 PM

R94 I only eat strawberry (and occasionally Brown sugar). I cannot stand anything raspberry flavored so I would not even try it. But I can tell you I once bought cherry and they were so nasty I could not finish the box.

by Anonymousreply 107June 8, 2021 7:48 AM

Why would anyone buy Pop Tarts when it’s so easy to make your own?

by Anonymousreply 108June 8, 2021 8:39 AM

Chocolate Fudge. How is this not even mentioned?

by Anonymousreply 109June 8, 2021 9:03 AM

I only like the old school Pop Tarts - no tricked out flavors; even Cinnamon is too modern for me. Cold, Pop Tarts are blah, but toasted with melted butter on top, they are fattening, sugary heaven

by Anonymousreply 110June 8, 2021 9:44 AM

R100 is right. A pile of votes for BS-Cinnamon appeared out of nowhere overnight. We need an audit of this poll.

I suppose CNN called it for BS-Cinnamon before the polls were even closed.

by Anonymousreply 112June 8, 2021 1:00 PM

I've always been a fan of the unfrosted strawberry or the smores.

I will admit, as a fat whore, on my last trip to Las Vegas, we went to the Donut Bar downtown and had a Pop Tart donut.

It was exactly what you think it was... a Pop Tart dipped in batter and fried.

It was warm and delicious with a glass of cold milk. My friend and I split it since I am not as much of a fat whore as I used to be.

I’ve always eaten unfrosted Pop-tarts because I assumed one couldn’t toast the frosted ones in a normal vertical toaster. Am I wrong?

by Anonymousreply 140June 13, 2021 4:57 PM

R140, you cannot melt Pop-Tart frosting with a blow torch. Go ahead and toast away!

by Anonymousreply 141June 13, 2021 5:00 PM

r25 you were able to do the math before. Magic. Can you tell how many have voted now?

by Anonymousreply 142June 13, 2021 5:09 PM

Cinnamon Roll Pop Tarts. Every Saturday Morning, nice and warm with coffee, while the I listen to the Back in the Day Replay of 90s music with Downtown Julie Brown.

Thank to r141, a whole new world of Pop-Tarts has opened to me. Fat whores rejoice!

[quote]you cannot melt Pop-Tart frosting with a blow torch

WTF is in that frosting that it doesn't melt? I'm not so sure I'd want to eat anything that doesn't melt under extreme heat.

by Anonymousreply 145June 13, 2021 5:28 PM

R145 I'm sure you wanna eat it... cuz it is sooooo good!

by Anonymousreply 146June 14, 2021 11:35 AM

R140 just beware that after 5 seconds in the toaster, the fruit filling rises to the same temperature as the interior of the sun.

by Anonymousreply 147June 15, 2021 12:16 PM

I think fruit fillings get hotter than BSC.

by Anonymousreply 148June 15, 2021 12:17 PM

Yes I think you're right r148. Burned my tongue on berry but not brown sugar cinnamon goodness. Another reason BSC are the best!

by Anonymousreply 149July 11, 2021 12:56 PM

None of the above, stupid cunt. The answer is ALWAYS Vivian Vance.

Cinnamon is a very American thing. I'd never even tasted it until I went to America and had cinnamon toast and was in love forever.

Apparently it goes back to the pilgrims or something.

by Anonymousreply 151July 11, 2021 1:14 PM

Crepes avec cannelle are a thing in France, no? Or just for American tourists?

by Anonymousreply 152July 24, 2021 12:28 PM

Those are better served heated, R136.

by Anonymousreply 153July 24, 2021 1:59 PM

Brown sugar cinammon is so nasty... but they ALL must be heated. A dry cold pop tart is disgusting!

by Anonymousreply 154July 24, 2021 2:20 PM

[quote] Brown sugar cinammon is so nasty

Just go.

by Anonymousreply 155July 31, 2021 1:52 PM

Brown sugar cinnamon if toasted, frosted cherry if cold. Both fab, esp with a glass of milk.

by Anonymousreply 156July 31, 2021 1:57 PM

R156 the only way I could eat BSC would be if it was frosted (and heated)

Cherry is just.. NO!

by Anonymousreply 157July 31, 2021 2:01 PM

Frosted raspberry. BSC.

by Anonymousreply 158July 31, 2021 2:08 PM

I usually just eat them cold but when I do heat them I then put butter on them

by Anonymousreply 159August 1, 2021 1:13 AM

I freaking LOVED these as a kid, more so than even Pop Tarts. Our grocery stores quit selling them decades ago, though.

Looks gross but sounds delicious. When has anything lemon flavored tasted bad?

This review makes them sound good

I remember when these first came out in the early '60s. Kellogg's would send them in the mail to get people to try them. The only one I remember is strawberry, unfrosted (I don't think any were available frosted). They were horrible, and I never asked my parents to buy any when Kellogg's stopped mailing to us. IIRC, we ended up throwing them out.

My grandmother went to a bakery twice a week and brought us home crumb buns and cinnamon rolls (no, she was not a fat whore). My father would buy donuts on Sundays. So we were never pastry-deficient.

I did eat the Thomas' cornmeal toaster cakes seen in r161, though. Toasted, with just butter.

by Anonymousreply 165September 21, 2021 1:44 PM

PopTarts are no substitute for real bakery goods. They are their own food category.
