L’Wren Scott - Christie’s Auction Edition
I’ve been living under a rock and didn’t know anything about this designer. She’s dead. She actually worked on her couture collection - instead of simply supervising. She made exquisite gowns for tall women - as well as some angry short women. Plus, she put up with Mick Jagger.
Anyway, Christie’s is auctioning off some of her gowns for charity for the next week. Proceeds provide a pretty awesome scholarship for student designers.

Her business went under and boyfriend Mick wouldn’t bail her out so she hung herself and left everything to him as an FU.

[quote] In February 2014, the London Fashion Week showing of her fall 2014 collection was canceled, citing delays in production.[35] It was announced that the collection would be revealed via social media, and be presented in her Paris showroom to editors and retail buyers in March
Still, she had a collaboration with Banana Republic for ready to wear. That had to be good money, R2.

I remember the day she died: I was at the dentist and I was shocked because I was immersed in the fashion world thru a project back then. The day she died, Mick put out a statement saying that he would always remember her. I would fucking hope so!

Like Monique Lhuillier, I never found her work interesting, much less compelling. It was red carpet filler. I don't think she should have killed herself, but she shouldn't have opened a company under her own name. At least not when she did.
She wasn't ever going to be Lagerfeld, or Galliano. But surely she could have thrived at a label like Zara. There's a reason she was in debt. One could just as easily find finer, better-made versions of those styles from better designers.
She should have marketed herself (not too far) down the chain (again, I think Zara would've been a lovely fit). But instead, she was obstinate in her decision to start her own label prematurely. And we know how well that worked out.

R6 It's pronounced like the bird ("wren"), but with an L as the first of the two syllables.

L'Wren committed suicide for several reasons - the failure of her business, menopausal depression, and last but not least, her beau of 10 years, Mick Jagger hooking up with 26 year old ballerina Melanie Hamrick, three weeks before her death.
She was reputed to be a lovely woman, devoted to Mick and kind to his children. She was very hard-working. Her designs were very well received.
The ballerina quickly had Mick's latest but possibly not last child, who is now about 4.
RIP, L'Wren.

[R10], I thought she was a lovely person as well, and she more than likely was. That said, I've read reports from people who worked for and with The Rolling Stones that she was high maintenance viz. Mick. And being a high profile designer in fashion would destroy the strongest soul. It's predatory, venal, and very, very cold, if you make the slightest error of judgement. I've read that L'Wren wanted to start a family with Mick, and actually had a nursery room in her apt. That's tragic. To actually delude yourself that somebody with Michael Philip's track record with women is going to start a family with you? Please! His first two serious girlfriends (Chrssie Shrimpton and Marianne Faithfull) attempted suicide because of him. Bianca, his wife, didn't put up with his shit. She gave back as much as he put out (so to speak). Jerry Hall, with whom he had four children, finally, after 22 years, kicked his ass out after he knocked up his girlfriend in 1998.
I don't know if Mick was aware of the extent of L'Wren's crushing debt. It's easy to blame her suicide on anybody but her. The day this happened, a friend asked me why she killed herself. I told him mental illness can strike anybody, and it will overtake your reason and logic, and convince you that you are so worthless that you have no right to be alive. End of.

To be fair, the rock world is full of people who have spent over 50 years blaming the girlfriends for everything. He's screwed around on everyone he's ever dated or married and clearly had no concerns whatsoever about how it would affect his wives or the mothers of his children.
It also doesn't seem delusional to think he'd have kids with you if he's got a history of knocking up random women. He clearly doesn't have a problem with having children, considering how many he has with all those babymamas.

When people commit suicide, it’s not accurate or fair to blame the others around them. That’s lazy and cruel. It was something inside the person that drove them to it; it was their illness. People get their hearts broken, are disappointed or betrayed, their businesses fail - the normal response isn’t suicide.
Obliteration of the self is the exact opposite of the instinct to survive that most humans have. It’s a pathology that is rooted deeply inside a psyche. A bankruptcy or unfaithful lover isn’t the cause.

I have read that MJ did bail her out once, maybe even twice. But he just wasn't going to keep sinking money into a failed/failing business. MJ is notoriously cheap, but he is also damn good with money and investments and saw things for what they were. I have read about and followed the Stones all of my life. I knew one day a women would eventually kill herself over him. He has a nasty track record of broken hearts. Jerry Hall just put up with his cheating during their entire relationship. I do not know what happened, but I really think she saw the writing on the wall. She had become too old for that old man. It isn't fair and he must be horribly shallow. Keith Richards has been with his wife for decades and seems to have more loyalty and less need to constantly prove himself by getting laid by women young enough to be his granddaughter. When I see photos of MJ he just looks nasty. All I can think about are the all of the women he has fucked. Nasty. Team Richards here.

L'Wren designed for L'Wren, if you weren't a dramatic, slender 6'3" woman or a rock star, a lot of her designs weren't really wearable. There's a certain lack of refinement to the actual designs themselves, like she didn't quite master fabric and cut, or something.

I wonder if some ex of L'Wren has remorse or guilty about her death and the fact she got involved and stayed so many years with Mick Jagger and what led her to start this business which killed her.
I bet that someone hurted L'Wren a lot and this led her to get involved with Mick Jagger. It's obvious to me that Mick took advantage of a woman in her late 30s who had no family and in this way got himself in her life. I bet he pursued her like crazy for years.

L'Wren Scott probably would have left Mick if she hadnt started her label. I'm sure she wanted left him many times but her business made her stay with him. Sad story.
In this past 7 years, Jagger already should have said he regretted have hurted L'Wren. He knows very well she'll be alive if she never had got together with him. Until this day, there's not a soul who even hinted she was depressed before him... He knows it too...

L'Wren was a stylist and that is how she met Mick. They got on right away, he didn't have to pursue her. When you look at the photos of them together, .she adored him. But he hooked up with the 26 yr old ballerina when he was on tour, and she found out about it.

L'Wren was a successful model in Paris in 1980s. She was one of favorite models of Thierry Mugler and was several times photographed by Helmut Newton. I'm absolutely sure that Jagger tried sleep with her back then and didnt get her.
In 1990s, she was very known in Hollywood as main stylist of Herb Ritts and best friend of Demi Moore. Anyone who thinks that Mick just met L'Wren casually at a photoshoot is in lalala land.
When I look in photos of them together, Mick appears very much more into her ...

Sad that no previous relationship of L'Wren worked out. She deserved to be happy and alive.
In early 2000s when L'Wren started dating Mick, she was known as stylist and was close to Herb Ritts, Helmut Newton and Karl Lagerfeld. If she hadnt got together with Mick, she'll continue to be known as L'Wren Scott. I remember few interviews of L'Wren in fashion mags during this time (late 1990s and early 2000s). The fact that she become known as "girlfriend of Mick Jagger" must have been quite unhealthy to her too. Mick sounds to be a very cold man. He's always laughing but his eyes are very cold. He has a very unappealing personality.

She was a ordinary gangy girl called Lauren, who remade herself - literally by willpower, into a swan. Her couture designs are truly fabulous, her apartment, which she laboured over with Mick's money, also featured in the shelter mags, was also pure perfection. But perfectionists are hard to live with. Especially when they keep losing money, however fabulous their art is. And, fashion is ruthless. And she got old.
Everyone knows Mick is a sexy well-read, intellectual cunt, who lives a great life in his French chateau with its gardens designed by the Marchioness of Salisbury for him. He obviously doesn't want or need problems, including being in harness to a driven New York type. He's old as dirt, with a rake thin young body. He wants a floaty youthful existence in his last years.

Mick Jagger ruined her life and career. Before him, L'Wren was a well-known and successful stylist who worked with great photographers like Herb Ritts, Helmut Newton and Karl Lagerfeld. With her fashion business, she needed to be with Mick and needed him to keep it. If the business hadnt happened, I believe, L'Wren and Mick will be broke up...
