Courtney Love is covering her favorite songs and posting them on YouTube

She seems happy, and truly sober, which is shocking. The interview is intriguing. She says that a Hole reunion will never happen, and that Eric Erlandson, the band's lead guitarist, is living off-grid as a Buddhist ascetic in Japan.

I wouldn't have recognized her in this 2018 photo with Lana Del Taco.

So, she is going the Miley route. How cute for her.

Her cover versions have not been very good since the mid-90s. She did some great ones, though. Hole’s Wipers cover on the Ask For It EP is every bit as awesome as the original. “He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss)” is fantastic, too.

Can she do a cover of " Bang Bang (my baby shot me down)"?

by Anonymousreply 4June 3, 2021 1:59 AM

R3 she hasn't really done that many covers since the '90s--at least not recorded ones. She did "Sympathy for the Devil" live quite a bit circa 2010, and while I know that was considered sacrilege to some, I thought her take on it was snarky and unique. She did record a cover of Buffy Saint-Marie's "Codeine" around the same time. I saw her perform that one live in Seattle in 2010, and it was great. Her voice is honestly suited for blues rock IMO. Here's footage from that concert:

Yeah, I was thinking more of the stuff she’s done live somewhat recently and not in the studio, R5. Thank you for the additional information.

A lot of people hated her live performance of PJ Harvey’s “To Bring You My Love,” but I didn’t think it was *that* bad. Would’ve been better if she’d learned to play it on guitar, instead of having some dude play it for her.

I’m glad she’s really staying sober, though I know it might not last forever. I think she’ll at least keep trying even if she does eventually fall off the wagon. I’ll always root for her and defend Live Through This.

Anybody who throws a shoe at Madonna on live television is okay by me.

I like the demo of Pacific Coast Highway much better the overproduced studio version on Nobody's Daughter

At least she's productive and seems like a fun loving person too. She is a hot mess yes. But having some type of hobby is good for former drug addicts and the mentally ill.

R7 that is truly one of the best covers of any song I've heard, ever. Produced by The Cars's Ric Ocasek, of all people. It's so dark, and that guitar riff just rattles through you. I revisit that track often.

Only eight posts in before Madonna is mentioned

She's one of those dummies that thinks all of England is Downton Abbey.

by Anonymousreply 13June 3, 2021 2:31 AM

How has she been able to afford living in a London hotel suite since the beginning of the pandemic?

I think it was a bunch of makeup “compacts” and not a shoe. But that was a fun moment. I remember seeing it live.

She’s probably worth half a billion dollars, R14.

by Anonymousreply 16June 3, 2021 2:34 AM

R14 Kurt's royalties. I love her, but I think that's the God's honest truth. She owns/owned a portion of his publishing rights (aka where all the real $$$ is) along with Frances. I know she's sold some of it, but I believe she still owns a share. That should guarantee she will have some stream of income for the rest of her life.

She has claimed at times to be destitute (i.e. circa 2004 when she as on crack), but those scenarios seem to involve management, lawyers, etc. that surround her--or so she says. I find her financial history truly fascinating, especially all of that stuff she was claiming in the mid-2000s about people embezzling hundreds of millions of dollars from Kurt's estate. She would go on Howard Stern and ramble about this ad nauseam, but some of the stories were so kooky and insane, I almost think they are true.

R13 idk if I'd hurl that at her; she lived as a teenage squatter in Liverpool in the early '80s. I'm sure she well knows that England is not all "Downton Abbey."

by Anonymousreply 18June 3, 2021 2:37 AM

Why on earth would anyone think Courtney Love thinks all of England is Downton Abby. She was an actual punk. She also lives there currently; it’s not like she’s some frau in flyover country, USA. What a truly dumb thing to say.

by Anonymousreply 19June 3, 2021 2:41 AM

She sounds like she's got her shit together, as much as Courtney Love can have her shit together.
