Annie Lennox - No More “I Love You’s”

Possibly one of the greatest songs ever. The music video is stunning. The whole package is so emotional and evocative.

I’ve been listening to it non stop all day today.

Annie is been a huge force for good throughout her career. What a fab woman.

Agreed OP.

Well, apart from that time she was a gigantic horse cunt and ruined Christmas.

by Anonymousreply 1June 2, 2021 8:42 AM

She can’t sing.

LOL R2!

You can say that about many other recording artists but not about Annie Lennox. She has one of the best and most distinctive voices in the music industry.

R2 check out the vocals on this live version. Her voice is phenomenal.

She stole my Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female for that song. Obviously I deserved it because when it comes to vocals this bitch isn't anywhere in my league. No one remembers her or this crap single. My Fantasy is still an iconic single.

I don't know her.

It's a cover of an 80s song by"The Lover Speaks" who, if my recollection is accurate, had some connections to Eurythmics . I do prefer Annie's version, though, with its kitchen sink drama.

Medusa was the finest album to come out of the 90's.

The story R6:

The Lover Speaks used to open for the Eurythmics and Annie Lennox loved this song and wondered why it never garnered more attention. So when she struck out on her own, she asked them if she can cover it and they gave her permission wholeheartedly.

And:

The Lover Speaks worked on this song with one of the producers of David Stewart, the Annie Lennox's band mate from Eurythmics. So Annie Lennox was aware of this song around the time is was produced and released, in the mid 80s. She liked it very much and she was puzzled that the song didn't do better in charts. The Lover Speaks actually released it twice as a single, but failed every time. So the third time it was Annie Lennox and it finally became a hit in 1995. 20 years later, in 2015, the singer from The Lover Speaks said that they were lucky that Annie Lennox did the cover and the song was appreciated as it should have been from the beginning.

I saw her live in some weird church in Washington Heights. Damn can that woman sing. She's BETTER live.

by Anonymousreply 10June 2, 2021 11:17 AM

It's a meh song. Not emotional at all. Annie was never emotional in any of her songs. Just over-wrought.

Love the drag queen backup singers.

I keep this one in play as well as “lifted” as the arrangement is so clever

R11 = Roxette chick

by Anonymousreply 15June 2, 2021 12:52 PM

R7, I think Diva was a better album.

by Anonymousreply 16June 2, 2021 12:52 PM

She had a string of very good albums - Diva, Medusa, Bare

I've always loved the remix of No More I Love You's and Bowie's Under Pressure.

UGLY.

by Anonymousreply 18June 2, 2021 2:06 PM

OP, we love "No More 'I Love You's'" but Annie wouldn't want it to trigger your OCD the way it obviously has.

Don't forget "Why" and "Walking on Broken Glass." At least play a medley of songs so you don't drive the neighborhood crazy, too.
