I more or less lost track of her after she retired, but I agree she was unbelievably beautiful. Nowadays there are loads of conventionally attractive female tennis players, but in her era, she was a rarity.

She was also used in an anti homophobia campaign that ran in AG a while ago, there was controversy as it was seen as "Outing" her unfairly, but to be fair to her she has never made a fuss of it. When she retired quite young in 1996 an article in La Semana alleged that she was leaving tennis as she couldn't control the reporting about her lesbianism and her then-relationship with WTA physio Kathleen Stroia, and the pressure of this along with constantly bearding and having to hide/deny her sexuality was making her anxious and depressed. Her father and brother went after journalists that reported on the gay rumours.

Now that both of her (traditional catholic) parents have passed, it would be nice if she was brave enough to take the final step and address her homosexuality. Especially considering her former beard Ricky Martin's decision to live openly and honestly many years ago. But she is such a shy and private person, it may never be something she is comfortable doing.
