Why is Heinz 57 sauce so expensive? 5 bucks for a small bottle

I know you gays use it for other things, so is that driving up the price? Walmart used to make a decent generic, but they quit.

by Anonymousreply 65June 6, 2021 3:02 PM

Because we've classified it as a vegetable so that the poor people get their nutrition, at least on paper.

by Anonymousreply 1May 28, 2021 7:32 PM

Again with the "you gays" business.

you annoying

by Anonymousreply 2May 28, 2021 7:41 PM

Me gay prefer A-1.

gaaaaaaaaaa

by Anonymousreply 5May 28, 2021 7:57 PM

A-1 is delicious. If you want ketchup, add ketchup. Another delicious sauce, similar to A-1, would be tonkatsu sauce.

by Anonymousreply 6May 28, 2021 8:02 PM

what other things would us gays use it for? You straights are making shit up again.

by Anonymousreply 7May 28, 2021 8:16 PM

I think us gays in my country just call it ketchup.

by Anonymousreply 8May 28, 2021 8:21 PM

Heinz 57 is not ketchup.

by Anonymousreply 9May 28, 2021 8:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 11May 28, 2021 8:56 PM

This gay uses it on his fries. WTF don't I know that we are supposed to use it "for other things"? Not like I ever saw anyone use it for lube or to make their ass taste better.

by Anonymousreply 12May 28, 2021 8:59 PM

I like A1 sauce.

Heinz 57 is DISGUSTING. Looks, smell, taste--all of them just awful.

by Anonymousreply 13May 28, 2021 9:04 PM

R13 - c'mon. In a diner, on a good serving of steak fries it is damned good.

by Anonymousreply 14May 28, 2021 9:09 PM

I use it as a dildo.

by Anonymousreply 15May 28, 2021 9:29 PM

The local Dollar Trees here have that same bottle for a buck.

by Anonymousreply 16May 28, 2021 9:46 PM

Well OP, this gay uses it on my truck stop tricks ass before I bury my face between his cheeks!

by Anonymousreply 17May 28, 2021 10:07 PM

You've never heard of shoplifting?

by Anonymousreply 18May 28, 2021 10:14 PM

Bulldog sauce is delicious, tastes almost exactly like H57 but better, and is never $5 where I live. Get either the semi-sweet or the tonkatsu.

Make your own sauce. Start with a tomato puree base, then add a sweetener (honey, molasses, brown sugar, and or corn syrup for example), vinegar (malt, apple cider, and/or white), spices (salt, celery seed, garlic, onion, turmeric), some apple or orange puree, and the secret ingredient: raisin paste (raisins whizzed in a food processor). Simmer in a pot, let it reduce until it reaches the desired consistency, then smooth it out with an immersion blender. Balance out with some tomato sauce (or even ketchup, believe it or not) if necessary.

by Anonymousreply 20May 28, 2021 11:09 PM

I just bought a bottle of H57, which I haven’t tasted since I was a teen. It didn’t taste as I remembered it...seems like more vinegar, and it generally reminds me of seasoning on Indian food. Won’t buy it again.

by Anonymousreply 21May 29, 2021 12:40 AM

R17 - you nasty!

by Anonymousreply 22May 29, 2021 3:28 PM

Target's generic/store brand is $2.49.

by Anonymousreply 26May 29, 2021 5:19 PM

Everything is way up in cost. We've seen inflation increases like we haven't seen in over a decade... and yes, it's almost on everything except the odd item, especially foods of any kind. It's happening so quickly (up to 20% for some things) that it'll negate any wage increases.

Of course the story is that companies are trying to make up profit 🙄 which is a load of horse shit. As long as people keep paying out, the prices will be permanent.

"Consumer prices jumped the most in nearly 13 years last month with Americans taking advantage of higher savings and a reopening economy. Here are the items whose prices rose the most last month compared to a year ago, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly consumer price index report.

•Nearly a third of the total annualized 4.2% price increase in April was accounted for by used car and truck prices, which rose 10%, in the biggest one-month increase since the government started tracking prices in 1953. •Though they fell 3.3% month to month, fuel prices were up 28% in April over a year ago, when they collapsed amid a downturn in mobility due to lockdowns—and that’s before the price spikes this month sparked by the Colonial Pipeline’s partial operations shutdown. •Other food items soaring in cost include fresh fruits (citrus in particular), which got 6% more expensive in the 12 months through April, and dried beans, peas and lentils, whose prices climbed nearly 7%. •Fueled by a pandemic-induced boom in demand for home appliances, laundry equipment has gotten nearly 24% more expensive—outpacing all major appliances, which posted a yearly price increase of 12%. •Travel’s also costing more: Airline fares were up 10%, lodging prices 8%, and car and truck rentals 82% last month.

TL;TR buckle up, we haven't even begun to pay yet. This will widen the wealth gap even further.

A1, Heinz 57... ugh...they all smell like Cheryl’s apple cider vinegar douche.

by Anonymousreply 31May 30, 2021 2:44 PM

See the excuses? "Americans got money from the government, therefore it created a huge consumer demand!" Yes, a measly $2500 justifies jumps of up to 82% ... 🙄

by Anonymousreply 32May 30, 2021 2:44 PM

This is Biden's fault, obviously.

by Anonymousreply 33May 30, 2021 2:45 PM

R33 that'll be the story, even though the other party was at the helm for 4 years. I wouldn't doubt it if it revives the meme THANKS OBAMA (because everything is Obama's fault, even things that happened before him!)

by Anonymousreply 34May 30, 2021 2:54 PM

Because they don’t make much of it, OP. It’s expensive because it’s not something that routinely sells out. It’s old fashioned goop.

by Anonymousreply 35May 30, 2021 7:33 PM

When British people talk about "brown sauce" is this what they mean...?

by Anonymousreply 36May 31, 2021 6:51 AM

Lea & Perrins steak sauce probably is closest to brown sauce, although the tamarind in brown sauce is the bee's knees.

by Anonymousreply 37May 31, 2021 7:04 AM

It’s expensive because each bottle has one pristine drop of John Kerry’s semen in it. That stuff’s not cheap!

by Anonymousreply 42June 2, 2021 5:41 PM

Hey fat Ass OP how much of it do you use that price is such a problem?

by Anonymousreply 43June 2, 2021 5:43 PM

Gross.. A proper gay only uses A1

by Anonymousreply 44June 2, 2021 5:44 PM

A proper gay wouldn't be caught dead using a commercial sauce.

by Anonymousreply 45June 2, 2021 6:19 PM

R45 - that doesn't apply to DL-ers. These bitches bottom after Taco Bell's "finest", start threads about every new offering at the cheapest fast food and even admit to patronizing anti-gay establishments because they can't control their cravings for hormone-ladden chicken fried in re-used oil.

by Anonymousreply 46June 2, 2021 6:22 PM

“Kroger 1883 Sauce” is a direct knock off to Heinz 57. Probably made for them by Heinz.

Cheaper.

by Anonymousreply 47June 2, 2021 6:26 PM

Touché, R46. Excellent points.

by Anonymousreply 48June 2, 2021 6:28 PM

R48 - seriously, I have come to the conclusion that some DL-ers would seriously forego cock forever if they knew they could eat all junk food all day long if they didn't have to worry about their weight. I mean neither my pregnant sister or her friends had so many cravings. It's astonishing. Some seriously large individuals must constitute about 70%.

by Anonymousreply 49June 2, 2021 6:33 PM

The problem is that we have extremist poseurs on the “left” (for lack of a better term). The looney left claim that, unless you are a member of the looney left, you are a Republican.

Sound familiar? This kind of normalization of the idiot fringe is going to tear this country apart. The cancer is much more advanced on the rightwing side. Mainstream republicanism is now a cult beholden to a narcissistic buffoon — unless your worship that fat moron, you’re a “RINO.”

by Anonymousreply 50June 2, 2021 6:33 PM

Whoops wrong thread, lol!

by Anonymousreply 51June 2, 2021 6:34 PM

I've been Taco Bell, I think, once years ago. Last fast food place I've been to was Culver's last winter, where I had a burger, fry, drink combo - sue me! Refuse to go to CfA (never been actually). I keep hot sauce on the house, not steak sauce, but do what if folks do?

So... what the hell is 46 going on about? Is this some sort of "written" Tourette's?

by Anonymousreply 52June 2, 2021 6:53 PM

[quote]Why is Heinz 57 sauce so expensive? 5 bucks for a small bottle

Because it's just that damned good, OP!

I can't stand A1.

[quote]I know you gays use it for other things, so is that driving up the price?

"You gays"? Which makes you what, exactly?

What are the "other things" which you imagine "you gays use it for"?

by Anonymousreply 53June 2, 2021 8:16 PM

You gays remind me of that "Designing Women," episode where Julia goes around being holier-than-thou, about fast food and at the end, you see her stuffing her face with hamburgers.

by Anonymousreply 54June 2, 2021 9:18 PM

R52 - just do a search for Taco Bell, burgers, McDonald's, KFC...there are at least two every week and the number of replies is staggering. You also get queens on here moaning over shortages of Velveeta and similarly "sophisticated" fare.

by Anonymousreply 55June 3, 2021 9:33 AM

The only time I ever use Heinz 57 is when I eat at Waffle House. I use it on my hashbrowns. I haven't been to Waffle House in at least a decade. I know it's trash, but I love it. And I never get the waffles. I get the blender-whipped omelet, or two eggs over easy, and hash browns (scattered, smothered, & covered).

Heinz 57 is also very good if basted onto grilled pork chops, though I rarely eat pork.

by Anonymousreply 56June 3, 2021 9:40 AM

R54, menopausal frau CUNT who eats her feelings. How does your food taste with the hair your twelve cats shed onto it?

by Anonymousreply 57June 5, 2021 1:29 PM

I'm curious as to whether people like R57 are as hostile in person as they are online? Doubt it. Some DL posters show such venomous rage!

by Anonymousreply 58June 5, 2021 1:32 PM

Another frau CUNT R58 flapping her ass mouth and giving an opinion when nobody gave her permission.

by Anonymousreply 59June 5, 2021 1:33 PM

Heinz 57 is essentially high fructose corn syrup (the second ingredient), You might as well save yourselves money and just dump a tablespoon of sugar in place of the sauce.

by Anonymousreply 60June 5, 2021 2:40 PM

Worcestershire sauce...Lea & Perrins, I like.

by Anonymousreply 61June 5, 2021 5:45 PM

[quote]Heinz 57 is essentially high fructose corn syrup (the second ingredient), You might as well save yourselves money and just dump a tablespoon of sugar in place of the sauce.

A poorly considered remark, R60, since a tablespoon of sugar wouldn't 𝑡𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑒 anything like the Heinz 57. The flavor is the point, and the reason why people hazard the risk of a slight sugar increase in order to have it.

by Anonymousreply 62June 6, 2021 2:04 PM

R62 - too true. It is impossible to avoid high fructose corn syrup all the time and no, you can't replicate stuff like Heinz 57 at home. The only thing you can do is limit intake.

by Anonymousreply 63June 6, 2021 2:41 PM

I made the sauce at R27, for a BBQ I attended yesterday. The guests, very nice rural relatives, thought it delicious, thought better than, just as good as the Heinz.

by Anonymousreply 64June 6, 2021 3:00 PM

excuse me, they thought it as good, or better than 57. I don't use it myself, too sweet, so I had no comparison, but it was too sweet.
