Recently been on a vintage football (soccer) watching binge (don’t judge me: I’m living with nightmare family, and soccer is a nice distraction to relax and calm down), and the further I spiral the more I’m finding clips of amusing fails, dives, fights and celebrations that I had forgotten about or missed.
Favourite so far is a moment from 1999— prettyboy Jamie Redknapp slide-tackling Beckham during a fairly inconsequential but still heated Liverpool-Manchester league game, and the two of them visibly calling each other a cunt on camera and almost getting into a hairflipping catfight over it, while ‘Steal My Sunshine’ by LEN plays over the stadium tannoy.
It’s especially funny given the stature and public persona of Becks these days; remembering that just twenty years ago he used to be a spot-faced pasty skinny kid with a vile ASBO attitude and a foul mouth. Bit of schadenfreude to watch him get floored and then cry like a little bitch about it.
More innocent and enjoyable times, I miss them.

R61, in 1989, just about 2 weeks after Lucy died, the Paramount Theater in Oakland, CA, had a special showing of "The Long, Long, Trailer." The Paramount is a beautifully restored Art Deco movie palace and features a theater organ. The evening started with the organ rising from the pit and the organist starting a long medley of very familiar television theme songs. All the best known TV themes were played. And with each new melody, the audience smiled and laughed and sometimes even applauded. The organist did a great job.
Of course, the big finish was the theme from "I Love Lucy." Everyone applauded, but in about 8 seconds, people all over the theater were crying. At the end of the song, more applause. More tears. And then the organist disappeared below the stage and we all were perfectly primed for "The Long, Long, Trailer."

R60. That video of Tom Cruise with Oprah was embarrassing, humiliating and cringeworthy. I remembered Cruise jumping on Oprah's couch, but actually that was the least cringy part of the entire appearance. Him falling to the floor, kneeling and giving himself a clenched fist cheer repeatedly was hideous. And then Katie Holmes came on stage. Good lord. They has no shame.

Courtney Love on David Letterman, 2004, on crack and/or cocaine, promoting her solo album. She was arrested later that night at the Bowery Ballroom for allegedly striking an audience member with a mic stand during of her concerts, and was also photographed letting a man suck on her tits in front of a Wendy's. The conversation is insane, manic, and hilarious, in true Courtney fashion. She gets on his desk and flashes Letterman at the beginning. I will often watch it to boost my mood—it's just too good. A pop culture relic.

OnlyFans Patreon fandub videos get funnier every time I see them. It’s basically just overdubbed clips of vintage EPL players talking bollocks and chatting shit, but it’s been going on so long that a storyline and new characterisations have accidentally and organically developed.
It’s really inventive, clever, well-observed verbally-rich comedy with plentiful allusion, when you look past the cheap decoupage production and the gutter humour—the kind of thing that should make it big on Channel 4 or BBC3, yet doesn’t thanks to nepotistic bores taking all the airtime.
The ‘Our Gary’ series in particular is gold. The idea of Gary Neville living a delusion that he’s a local gangland boss and desperately trying to make out like he’s hard and capable of cold-blooded killing is just so hysterical.

Funny, I was just thinking of this topic last night. When I feel down, I like to watch clips of those Catherine Tate characters - the man and wife who crack themselves up laughing silently at the most unfunny things. The woman has an incredibly boring day but finds the mundane in life seriously hilarious and her husband is always champing at the bit to hear her run down her day. As the episodes go on it becomes clear that all their work colleagues, friends, parents and children are just the same. It's so silly, but there's something so delightful about how happy these people are and it always cheers me up.
Most of them have been deleted off YouTube. I wanted to share the one where the Nokia phone rings in the office and no one can work out who it belongs to, but it seems to have gone.

R252 Too bad Christina Metz wasn't on that boat. She would have went flying and created a tsunami. 800 dead. Story at 11.

This is sad and f'ed up, but so funny. I hope tik tokers don't find this and make it trend.

This boy looks so much like Tammy it is uncanny.

I can't find the link but the video of the triggered, raped Karen who cut in line at a Wal Mart and couldn't handle being challenged was pure comedy gold. I had tears in my eyes through most of the trigger.

Not only is this funny, but the actor is pretty hot. Pay attention to his eye brows.

Alex Jones' insane ranting turned into a folk song.

R267 I'm going to hell for laughing at that.
by Anonymous | reply 274 | March 6, 2023 5:51 PM |
Starting at the 3:19 mark, this is the greatest minute and a half in television history.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | March 7, 2023 1:28 AM |
R271, that actor was hot. He played a buff cabana boy in an “In Living Color” sketch.

You have NO IDEA, how this makes me laugh. Especially significant to me as I commuted via ferry for a while and I have had such tantrums, luckily it was me in my car gripping the steering wheel and screaming as the last trip for the evening departed and I was 1 minute late.

The SNL bit with Russel Brand acting out scenes from British movies a la Guy Ritchie

Someone posted this clip here on DL last month and it instantly became my favourite MADtv sketch ever. I just lose it every time when it cuts back to Andie and she's in magazine cover mode. I also now randomly say "Andie. Andie. Andie!" throughout the day when no one's around.

This newscaster losing it over a story about a pig with no legs kills me every time.

Best reaction video ever. Poor Cory James is working in NY now (this was when he was in Fresno) and will never live down the fact that he's a total bitch on Guardians of the Galaxy.

I know Karl isn't well loved on DL, especially since he's porked up but he can make me laugh. Kudos to Georgy Girl for torturing him after the initial line.

Good video, R294. Cory outs himself with that scream 😆.

The grape lady was attempting to be funny by telling the woman to stop stomping while she continued to do so. I should not be laughing at this. But it makes my own humiliating moments seem less so.
