In fucking America? You can’t wear a linen shirt for 30 seconds before it wrinkles up and you look like some rolled up dish towel.
Why Do They Bother Making Clothes Out Of Linen?

Linen is great for tea towels.
I bought a new set recently and the gay, color print really spruces up my all-white kitchen.

I haven't bought 100% linen clothes since the 1980s for that very reason, and also because I find them scratchy.
I do sometimes buy linen-cotton blends, which don't wrinkle as much and are smoother.

Linen makes an excellent cum towel.

I love linen, all natural fibres wrinkle OP.

I have several linen shirts and even a linen suit. Properly cleaned and pressed, they are fabulous and naturally buoyant with attractive after hours of wear.

Its true. Ive got 2 lovely jewel tone linen shirts that I dont wear for that reason . I cant chunk them out as they cost me a fortune, but even heavy starch doesnt help. They look like a shar pei 5 minutes after donning them.

You were born to be plebes shopping at Target. No shame.

Linen: decomposes in about 2 weeks depending on the weight
Much like cotton, linen, a derivative of the flax plant, is considered one of the most sustainable fabrics in the fashion industry. In its purest form without dyes, it can decompose in only a few weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 27, 2021 10:21 PM |
Linen may decomposes if you place it in your wormy compost pit.
But it doesn't decompose on your body or your kitchen shelf.

R14, they steamed that suit while it was on his body. If he had put it on after pressing, the act of putting each foot through the pants legs would have wrinkled the pants.
I like the look of linen, but it’s linen blends for me.

I love linen and have a huge collection...yes linen kitchen towels are the best, they will last forever.

I have a pair of linen pleated slacks from the 60s, beautiful and comfortable, but I no longer dress like that. I should sell my clothes to a retro shop.

Linen is sexy.
Just like bedding, you have to be careful of the weight. Cheap linen that shows your nipples gives off a banana republic dictator vibe. Heavier linen remembers the contours of your body and hangs wonderfully.
Adding silk gives more structure and weight while retaining the sheen. My first pair of pants by Williwear were white linen. It was 1987 and I worked for a brokerage house. Everyone let me know I was allowed to wear them until Labor Day and I pretended that I understood.
Since then, I’ve pulled off Ralph Lauren in dark purplish blue and Etro in neutral. They just go really well with hot weather.

Tell your dry cleaners to starch the hell out of them.

WHET to hospital scrubs? I had several in the 80s. Yes, it was a look in the 80s for general public wear.

I have a bunch of linen t-shirts and love them. So comfy in hot weather.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 28, 2021 1:56 AM |
What the hell kind of cheap linen are you people buying?
A nice heavy weight linen will get softer and less prone to wrinkling, with regular wear. It develops a sort of glow or patina as the fibers wear. And they have a “memory”, molding themselves to the wearer.
For people accustomed to Lycra and fast fashion, this sort of relationship to a natural-fiber garment is incomprehensible. Keeping a garment for a decade is unthinkable.

Linen is sustainable, natural and super cool to wear. I've always been a great fan. Hemp clothing is fabulous too.

The one linen shirt I have I bought online not realizing it was linen until it arrived (assumed cotton).

Linen gives me a boner when I wear it, not sure why...
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 2, 2021 12:33 AM |
I hate that fabric

Happens to me when I put on speedos, R30.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 2, 2021 12:41 AM |
It is light and breathable. And it feels “clean” - it’s linen sheets in the summer for me. Linen slacks can get very wrinkly, it’s true, but things like linen shirts should be loose enough that they waft away from the body rather than crimp up and wrinkle.

Thanks for the Williwear flashback, R19. In the late 80s I went on a trip to Central America for god-knows-what-reason and was wearing sage green Williwear linen pants and fitted white silk tee having cocktails on the terrace of a Camino Real. A hot hot hot guy picked me up and had the best sex ever. He was some kind of OAS agent or something. I swear it was the linen, but could have been the 10 minutes or so I was a peak hotness blonde.

You just SHUT your mouth, OP! :o
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 2, 2021 1:23 AM |
I’m wearing pants made of a somewhat thick and heavy linen. They aren’t any more wrinkle-prone than a cotton twill. I’m in the process of breaking these bitches IN, and am looking forward to the day they’re well-worn and soft. I wore them on a hot day and did not sweat my balls off.

Whatever happened to velour shirts? I had several in the 1980s and they were very comfortable and stylish.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 2, 2021 2:49 AM |
I have a lot of linen home goods, I use linen napkins, and tea towels, I have a linen quilt, and several linen duvet covers, and two linen bathrobes. I have linen sheets, but I won't use them in the summer - they are too heavy for summer. I like cotton batiste in the summer, they are lighter and more breathable than linen.
The linen sheets create an enormous amount of dust in the house.
There are a lot of lies online about linen:
It is incredibly soft. It can be, but brand new linen that hasn't been treated or stonewashed is not soft. Buy a pillowcase in Smooth from Rough Linen - not soft. Linen, even when soft, is not smooth like cotton, so if you have issues with texture, you may need some adjustment time
Linen is lint free. This is absolutely untrue. The word lint comes from linen. Like I said, when I use the linen sheets there is WAY more lint in the bedroom, and I have to vacuum the mattress when I change the sheets because they leave lint balls on the mattress.
Linen will last forever with little care. Linen will last a long time, but you need to be careful with the dryer, it is easy to over dry which will make it brittle. You have to take care with ironing as well. Linen is a bast fiber, so it will break, especially if you iron it with a crease or fold in the same place every time.
I don't like to wear linen shirts, as I find that when they wrinkle they lose length, and I am always pulling them down and trying to smooth them.
I also find fine cotton weaves to be cooler to the touch than linen.
I really like linen, but it is important to manage expectations.
