Pineapple baby, pineapple.

Oranges.

Cantaloupe wins hands down.

by Anonymousreply 3May 26, 2021 3:51 PM

I eat watermelon year-round, it's my favorite fruit after bananas.

by Anonymousreply 4May 26, 2021 3:51 PM

It's sad that it was given racial overtones.

Your poll is flawed, OP

by Anonymousreply 7May 26, 2021 3:59 PM

That spoon looks like an asshole R5.

One of the cruelest things racists have done is make Black people feel weird about eating watermelon. You know who loves watermelon? Fucking everyone. If they want to attach racial baggage to it, give it to the Japanese. They give them as special gifts and grown them in a square shape to make them easier to store. Same with fried chicken. They eat it on Christmas

Watermelon is the best. Pity that it's pure sugar!!

by Anonymousreply 10May 26, 2021 4:12 PM

Mango? White peach? Strawberry? Cantaloupe? Honeydew? Mamey? Lychee? Red Anjou pear?

Watermelon exacerbates my IBS so no can do.

I can't eat anything in the melon family, with the exception of cucumbers. It just tastes unpleasant to me. Watermelon and cantaloupe have always given me migraines if I try to press on through and eat them anyway.

I like citrus fruits. Ugli fruit is a treat, but I can't often find it.

Ummm - it's not a fruit, it's a vegetable!

No, seriously - watermelon is Oklahoma's state vegetable.

R4 you're a man (or woman) after my own heart! I love cut up watermelon into cubes and mix it with sliced bananas.

by Anonymousreply 14May 26, 2021 6:13 PM

I agree OP. A delicious, cold slice of sweet watermelon sprinkled with sea salt is absolute heaven. I have 2 melons cooling in the fridge right now.

by Anonymousreply 15May 26, 2021 6:19 PM

I have two melons in my fridge too. We are destined to meet. I love watermelon. I eat it year round.

by Anonymousreply 16May 26, 2021 6:20 PM

I want to try mangosteen. I've heard it's good.

by Anonymousreply 17May 29, 2021 10:19 AM

It's just OK. But only on a hot day. I'm embarrassed that on the rare occasion of having a slice of watermelon, I think of black people.

by Anonymousreply 18May 29, 2021 10:25 AM

Yes, it's called Salak or Zalacca, westerners might call it snakefruit.

Do you eat it plain, with sugar or with salt? I grew up in the South, eating lightly salted watermelon all summer long. I was astonished when I became an adult and moved North and found out that many people put sugar on it. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 20May 29, 2021 10:39 AM

Many people up north put milk in iced tea R20. They have no idea what they're doing. It's sad. Anyone who would put sugar on watermelon should be slapped viciously about the head and shoulders.

I bought 2 quart jars of home made watermelon rind pickles at a roadside fruit stand a couple of weeks ago. That are beyond delicious. It's amazing what people can do with the parts of some plants most people would just throw in the trash.

Yellow peaches

Yellow nectarines

lychees

loquats

Cherries (red, Ranier)

Ate way too much watermelon, cantaloupe, and other melons in my life. I'll pass.
