Le Creuset is out of my price range so I’m looking at one of these two for my first Dutch oven. Does anyone have experience with either line and can offer up some recommendations? I thank you in advance!!!
MI bought a Martha Stewart one a few years ago and it has held up great. I bought the largest one and it was on sale at Macy's for 138.00 I think...

if you buy Amazon basics, you might just head to AliExpress or Wish to buy one, those basically are the same with different names or no brands at all, made by the same factory in China.

There's nothing quite like a Dutch oven!

Lodge for sure. I had their 8qt. dutch oven. Loved it.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 26, 2021 2:46 AM |
Yeah I'd go with Lodge.

Just use a cheap cast iron skillet. It's the same thing, minus the fancy enamel coating, which does nothing for you. You can buy cast iron skillets in every size too. A cast iron skillet improves with age and you don't have to worry about the enamel coating chipping off over time.

I like Lodge

I bought this Dutch oven a few months ago and I am really happy with it.

Buy this Lodge cast iron dutch oven for a third of the cost.

Ive used Lodge for decades. They have great products. The enamel, and the cast iron all made, and perform well.

Go to the flea market.

What is this strange website in the OP? Referral link spam? Something's not right. OP, explain. Why wouldn't you link directly to Amazon instead of this silly website?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 26, 2021 3:50 AM |
Why not just use your stove? Is it so you can check on how the food is cooking more easily? Is it to avoid bending over, which can be a pain?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 26, 2021 3:51 AM |
I have the Amazon one and have been making bread in it for years. Not sure about the Lodge. Depending on the usage you expect I would invest more in something you plan on using more. I don't use mine all that much. Plus if you have a smooth top be careful, they are heavy and have scratched my induction stove from minimal usage. As a result I only use it for oven only recipes now.

I have a Lodge and it's held up beautifully for years now. The enamel is easy to clean. I also have a cast iron skillet, and you can't make a stew in that.

I got a 9 qt enameled Dutch oven, cuisinart at Homegoods for $69. Excellent

Go for the Martha Stewart ones....They are always on sale at Macy's...I have a couple that I have had for years

[quote] What is this strange website in the OP?
It's something weird so OP can get more WTF responses.
Also, this is an agenda thread. OP has no interest in Dutch ovens. It's a segue to something.
Just wait.

If you happen to live near a (Cost Plus) World Market, they sell their own store brand which is only like $50 or $60.

I have a Lodge Dutch oven, and I love it.

I like to bring my dutch ovens to bed. Jeffrey loves them.

Another vote for Lodge. I love you r22
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 26, 2021 6:58 PM |
Lodge if you can - solid line of product, you won't be disappointed. Ditto the Martha Stewart, similar price point.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 26, 2021 7:17 PM |
Regardless of which one you buy OP, make sure that the lid knob is made of metal not plastic. This will allow you to use it for things like no-knead bread where you preheat the Dutch oven in a very hot oven for 45-60 minutes. We needed to purchase a metal one for a Le Creuset pot that we use for this.

I have a Lodge and a Tramontina. They're both excellent cooking vessels.

William -Sonoma has good sales on Staub enameled cast iron. I got a large skillet for about $160 and Dutch oven for $80.

Le Creuset is made in China now...

Melania loves my Dutch Ovens! Especially after a taco bowl and some KFC!

Le Creuset cast iron is still made in France. Their ceramic and stoneware is made in Thailand and China.

This is the old model Lodge, I actually prefer it to the newer style. I bought it six months ago and I love it. Can't beat the price.

Staub 3.75-Quart Enameled Cast Iron French Oven
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 27, 2021 12:05 AM |
Tramontina is better than lodge.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 27, 2021 12:31 AM |
OP, I have way too much cookware, but have learned a few things along the way. Creuset has by far the best enamel. If the enamel is not first rate, it will chip. Check eBay for a used Creuset in good condition.
For most things, I prefer using 3-ply stainless steel. It is much easier to care for. There is nothing you can do in cast iron that you can't do as well in a stainless pot.

Buy Amazon. Support Bezos.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 27, 2021 12:40 AM |
Don't buy a Cuisinart. The fucker burns everything.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 27, 2021 12:41 AM |
I like Le Creuset but have found that Staub is better. I have both and really like how the Staub lid works. Less of that irritating browning that the Le Creuset tends to allow. We have a couple of Lodges, too, that work fine. Plain iron is NOT what is wanted, for several reasons. And I wouldn't waste money on the Cuisinart Dutch oven - seemed thin.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 27, 2021 1:00 AM |
I don't braise a lot - it's too hot here for hours spent with the range or oven on. When I do braise, it's in the pressure cooker because it takes less than half the time. This is why I don't have a dutch oven. If I lived somewhere cool, I'd probably make more casseroles. Sometimes I wish I had a kitchen outside.

I got mine from Aldi almost 10 years ago and it still looks like new and does the job.

I have a few cast iron pans. One of which I use all the time. Keeps it nice and seasoned.

Snobs. The AmazonBasics one has a 1-year guarantee: if you don’t like it for any reason, contact them and they’ll issue a refund. That’s how AmazonBasics works.

by Anonymous | reply 46 | June 5, 2021 4:25 PM |
I'm not much of a cooker so I don't really understand why would I use a Dutch oven when I can use a normal Revere or Faberwsre stockpot that can cook on the stovetop or in the oven?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 5, 2021 4:32 PM |
I recall reading a couple reviews that specifically called out Creuset for being overpriced and no better than Lodge, which I have and really like.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | June 5, 2021 5:07 PM |
Amazon Basics products are pretty good though, they seem to focus on quality.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | June 5, 2021 5:11 PM |
And pretty sure the Lodge dutch ovens are made in China.
