Certainly Avondale and Riverside are beautiful. The biggest problems with Jacksonville - if you ignore the mediocre architecture - is politics and religion.
It also has an extraordinary Symphony and surprisingly excellent and innovative restaurants. But for us, those positives could not make up for the extensive and suffocating negatives.

And if problems with politics and religion didn't already cover this, Jacksonville is also homophobic. It's not an absolute - gay people actually live there and some probably thrive there - but the homophobia is insidious and it's everywhere.
Many LGBT people born there escape as soon as possible. Often to Atlanta.
