And besides Naya and Imana living there with Sutton, we'd have Naya's husband, Eric, lurking about, as well as some suspicious-looking, longtime personal assistant of Sutton's, and a loyal maid who's told to report back, if she sees or hears anything whenever Amanda's around. .. But rather than build a set that could actually help a long story arc, they instead use resources to build a humongous (temporary) hotel room for Nick over in Italy just so he can slam Phyllis up against a wall. Surely, a small, European-looking elevator would have done the job there.

In other news, it doesn't appear that anyone's collecting nickels and dimes to fly a plane over Television City to save Dummer & JaBottom. .. Arrivederci.

Some of the wardrobe choices on this show are just so weird (inappropriate) for what characters are doing. Are they trying to distract viewers? Miss Piggy, Sally, and Tara were all over-dressed for their activity. And don't get me started on Sphyllis. That blue number should be burned. .. The fugly suit they had Lily in this week was not only old-lady style, but a horrid color on her. .. Billy's suit didn;t fit and looked like something off the rack from JC Penney. ( Furthermore, why is he even wearing a suit? He's supposed to be in new media.) .. And hey, if we have to look at Abby in that short pink romper for days on end, then maybe Ben could be wearing a pair of short-shorts (now in style for men). As I recall, Carrigan's got a great pair of thighs and would fill them out nicely.

It feels like there's some rewrites happening right now to accommodate the Summer departure and now the Kyle departure. My guess is that they are setting up for Tara to end up Mrs. Jack Abbott, so Sally takes the fall for this scandal.

r90, both Hunter King and Michael Mealor have had "contract difficulties" and that's why Summer's departure was so out-of-the-blue and potentially temporary, but word has leaked that it seems neither is going to re-sign. Based on how Phyllis is suddenly on the case and sussing bitches out, I think they are setting up for Kyle to realize Tara is poisonous and leave to be with Summer in Milan (abandoning his new kid, but that's another story). Another out here is that we never saw Tara get the DNA sample from the kid, so it's possible to rigged it to make it look like Kyle is the father when he's not. If they are planning on getting rid of Miss Leiner, that's the way they will go.

The problem with Y&R right now is there's no one to root for. The characters we love are being side-lined for people we don't care about.

There are so many problems at Y&R. Lack of story is #1. Delusional Morina and Griffith think that because they have no budget they can’t have interesting scenes. Write 2 characters in a scene with an interesting conversation. Not a hard concept. Y&R seems so randomly put together. No direction. No plan. Just do scenes and edit them into an episode. There are serious issues at Y&R that no one is addressing.

R129, you must be joking. Sally Sussman did a terrible job as head writer of Y&R. I'm not familiar with Jack Smith's work. I wish the show could pair a seasoned daytime writer with a talented writer that does not have a background in daytime. I think they need to try something new.

Jack Smith was a Bill Bell protege from the 1980s forward and HW from 2002-06. He is more seasoned than anyone working in soaps right now.

The most prevalent one is the "Hollywood Museum" crowd that attracts a lot old-timers in town. .. Another one is The Thalians charitable organization, whose members are old actresses from Hollywood. Dickson and Linder have been connected to both. There used to be some other group that held something called the Soap Ladies Luncheon, but I don't know if that still exists.

- Ptosha Storey's performance as Naya is really wonderful in this episode. (Remember this scene for Daytime Emmys next year. imho.) .. I'm sensing this may be Naya's swan song for awhile? .. Besides the Tara-JaBottom-Dummer story, it seems like the one about Richard's murder is being wrapped up as well? .. I also enjoyed the scene between Victor and Amanda.

- I'm sure many viewers will enjoy Lauren, Phyllis, and Aunt Jack's take-down of Sally, but I couldn't help laugh that this BIG event occurs in the middle of a totally empty Crimson Lights! .. The whole scene just looks so odd that it's funny. .. Is Sally out too? Or, are they keeping her around to cause trouble elsewhere?

- Arrivederci JaBottom! .. Apparently, he thinks Hot Silver Daddy Ashland will allow him to ship Harrison over to Milan to live there with him and Dummer. .. I can hardly wait to hear Aunt Jack moaning about his big empty house. .. I've been thinking maybe they should have him start taking in boarders, and he could become the Anna Madrigal of Genoa City!

R137 I watched it on YouTube since the Canada episode runs one day ahead of us. It was a pretty strong episode that I didn’t ff through amazingly enough. I doubt Sally will be going anywhere. What with Mealor and King out ( looked like their last episode to me ), they need to keep some younger cast. Sharon may hire her at Crimson Lights lol. Even the Amanda Naya stuff was good. They kept the dead weight off the episode like Billy, Lily, Devon, Abby and the maternity shit, Sharon, Rey are pretty boring right now too.

I was not expecting Tara to get arrested. I actually like her character. The show needs more antagonists. She reminds me of a sociopathic ice princess. Her character helps to bring some drama to the show. The Sutton Ames/Richard story is dragging on for too long. I hope it is coming to an end. I am okay with storylines evolving slowly, but this one is going nowhere. There are no new developments. (And I am saying this as someone who likes Naya and Imani.) I think it would be more interesting if Sutton was not responsible for Richard's death, but Sutton's deceased wife (or someone else) was responsible. I think the show should pair Adam and Sally. They would be more interesting than Adam and Sharon. I like the new Faith so much better than the previous one. New Faith and Moses are cute together, but I hope the show does not rush them into a romance. There should be a few road blocks along the way before that happens. I would like for the two of them to be written as true, realistic teenagers.

R152 I'm not suggesting GR be more than recurring, but during days gone by, Y&R used to have quite a few recurring characters - including secretaries - who would pop in to make things on the business front more interesting. That's all. Another one right now is Gloria. Even though Lauren begrudgingly agreed to hire her mother-in-law to be Sally's assistant/secretary, we never saw her in that role. We knew Gloria didn't like Sally, and they should have played a few scenes during Sally's scheming when Gloria was on to her game as well.

Of course they're playing the hair models who limply sit and speak a line or two once in a while, because they can pay them scale.

And then they keep Morrow/Staff/Case and the three Olds on contract.

I guess Gloria is offscreen as Lauren’s assistant right now. I forgot Lauren did that. Judith is ok every now and then for a little comic relief. And then when it did come back, scenes were totally devoid of any background players in order to reduce the number of people on set. I remember how viewers were noting how Genoa City looked a ghost town. They could cut it in half and have space for another permanent set. It is embarrassing that Lily and Billy are always in Lily's office. If they got rid of the Chance Comm reception area, they could use the space for Billy's office, or just use the excuse that Billy's office is being redecorated and he needs to share space with Lily, and bring a second desk in that office. At least try to make it somewhat believable.

I really like Imani as a character, and I hate that she has not been on the show for a while. For a minute, it looked like they were going for an Elena-Nate-Imani triangle. I hope they will continue in that direction, especially if they are going to keep Elena on the show. Elena is such a boring character. I would like for them to keep Naya on the show to try to drive a wedge between Devon and Amanda. She can start with her disapproval of Devon wanting to be with his dead wife's twin sister. Amanda can be torn between the man she loves and her long lost mother.

R286, I am guessing that the show is going to use Mariah's kidnapping as an excuse for her behavior in the months to come. I think Mariah is going to get attached to "Bowie" and want to keep him. Perhaps she will kidnap him. This will be blamed on her mental state as a result of being kidnapped and locked in a room by herself for weeks. Remember Chelsea was taken (by Adam) and put in a room not too long ago. That situation was used as part of the excuse for what she eventually did to Adam and Rey.

R281, you make a good point about the stakes being low on this show. I think the writers and producers need to go on a weeklong retreat and brainstorm some ways to bring new life into this show. They keep trying to revisit the same tired ideas (e.g., Sharon and Adam, Nick-Phyllis-Jack, Victoria and Billy).

Instead of scripting a lame story for Solo Abby, they should have taken the opportunity to write her out as well. .. Remember when Boredway took her own maternity leave from the show, and they wrote Abby off to Paris for a couple of months? Her absence had ZERO affect and NO ONE missed her.

I didn't love Donnie Boreass, but he did make Abby more palatable than she had ever been, and certainly more than she has since. I would be perfectly happy if Abby, Devon, Mariah, Tessa, and Bowie were all to leave town and find five-way domesticity in a commune of their own creation. Chance can join them if he wants.

I've been wondering whether the new black characters will survive the absence of Susan Dansby. I like Amanda and Nate. And maybe Imani (I still don't trust her not to stab Amanda in the back).

I'm surprised Sally has survived. As Phyllis said, she absolutely lacks an iota of self-awareness. Maybe she will be the most interesting character over the months to come. We need someone to get Adam out of those dreadful black and navy outfits he's been sporting, and I doubt it will be Rafe.

Apparently it was NuNoah's first day at work today, and afterward we see him taking his new job very seriously and doing what every guy on a daytime soap needs to do in order to hold our interest.

I get a chuckle thinking that Richard Burgi was initially on recurring while Elizabeth Leiner (Tara) was put on contract from the get go.

The Tara part of the storyline was a bust and they (mercifully) got rid of Leiner, while Burgi is the one who really shined and they're keeping him around.

And frankly, the Ashland Locke storyline is the ONLY thing that is remotely interesting on Y&R these days.

I think the only reason Leiner was dismissed was due to TPTB not being able to negotiate new contracts with JaBottom and Dummer. If those two were still around, then Tara would more than likely still be boring us silly as well. In effect, the character was basically made obsolete by Sony's decision to let those two go, so became collateral. .. They soon moved other character's interest in Tara's sketchy background to a story about investigating Ashland's. And instead of this Gaines blackmailing Ashland, we probably would have ended up having Tara's younger brother come to town doing the same to her. Recall, he'd been mentioned a couple of times, once in front of Phyllis, who seemed to take note that he'd been a person to track down.

ahhhh ... How sweet, but ultimately tragic.

So today, we finally learn that Ashland was actually born "Robert 'Bobby' De Franco" and named himself after his 16-year old fuck-buddy, who was the real "Ashland Locke."

Apparently, our teen-aged lovebirds went out and got matching tattoos on their calves(!), but when Bobby's asshole father saw this, he beat Bobby up, which is what caused him and Ash to run away from home together.

Anyway, even though Bobby & Ash had to work the boardwalk and hustle in Jersey beach towns, it sounds like our young duo was totally devoted to one another and, if not for the horrible car accident that killed Ash, their love would more than likely have had the power to go the distance.

You know, though, this sort of thing must happen way more frequently than I ever imagined, since this is almost the exact same story we heard from George Kaplan (Bradley Carlton) and Ben Russell (Ben Rayburn) when both of them took the identities of their extra-special buddies after they too were tragically killed.

Well, who's supposed to care about that?

IF what r317 says is correct, I predict Jessie Gaines will turn out to be the real Ashland Locke who didn't die in a car crash. Instead, he had amnesia for many years but ultimately got his memory back. Faux Ashland has been paying him off for decades.

Unless we get something far more salacious than what Ashland-Bobby has already told us, then his backstory seems quite tame compared to some of the things The Newmans have done.

I rather enjoyed Victoria slamming Nicholas, but it would have been even better if she'd brought up how reckless teen Nick was when he caused girlfriend, Sandy Allen, to become paralyzed, thus ruining her career as an Olympic diving hopeful. And of course, in that case, Big Daddy Victor had to step-in and clean up MyBoy's big mess by flashing the cash. .. Oh, and let's not even talk about all the things Nick's very own partner, Phyllis, did when she was younger. She probably knows a thing or two about walking away from a fire where a dead body was found (Sasha Green).

R319 But how could Jesse Gaines be Real Ashland when he's something like 10-12 years younger than Faux Ashland? We heard that our kindred spirits were the same age (16) when they ran away together, and it's why Bobby-Ashland was able to use his dead buddy's I.D. and go to the job interview appointment that Ash already had with Camilla Rhodes, pretending to be him.
