It won't. This is not the first recount. Biden won.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 25, 2021 4:23 AM |
R1 Did you read the article and about the insane games they are playing in Arizona?
Of course Biden won and even if this shady bogus “audit” indicates otherwise, Biden will remain POTUS. However, these scumbags are focused on not just casting doubt but cementing it. What is happening in Arizona is not legal, and if they get away with doing this and being able to claim that Biden lost the state, they will continue on down the line of states in which he also won.
To add insult to injury, they will continue blocking or deflecting from an investigation into the Jan. 6 domestic terrorist attack on our Capitol, democracy, and government.
Journalist Jeremy Stahl has done a brilliant job here of highlighting just how grossly nefarious this “audit” is.

The company auditing will declare Trump the winner. Apparently, other state's Republicans are planning to hire this very company to do their states' re-audits too.
This is the new "Obama is from Kenya." The GOP always tries to delegitimize the Dem Presidents.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 25, 2021 12:42 PM |
R10 No "probably" to it. Your Trump lost in Pennsylvani, Arizona, and Georgia. The Sénatrice calling-up the GA Secretary of State pleading for12,000 more votes for Trump is not a legal and ethical process.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 25, 2021 12:54 PM |
4 point plan to destroy democracy:1. Make it harder to vote,2. put Republicans in charge of counting , 3. Get a corrupt Secy of State to certify results and 4, have Republican judges overturn anything that makes it through the first 3 barriers.
The time to be fighting in the streets is now. The other side is preparing for it. I'm old so I don't give a shit but you kids should be very afraid.

Are the “cyber ninjas” also going back to make sure Trump really won in all thr states he narrowly carried in 2016 (and 2020)?
If not ...
Why not?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 25, 2021 1:08 PM |
Trump could use a "win" in Arizona to have his Rumpsters try to stage another coup to take back power. That's part of why these stunts are so dangerous. He has plenty of allies in the military and the police. If they think he was cheated, even in spite of all of the evidence to the contrary, they will go along with his attempts to take back power forcefully, ala Myanmar.

I can’t believe they allowed them to take the voting machines which they probably tampered with. They also requested the officials passwords into the system. The stupid judge should never have given them approval to recount votes.

This is all about 2024, for Republican-legislature states in play to undermine the election by fiat.
And the Cold Civil War that has been ongoing since the 1840s, caused by the rottenness of constitutional slavery, will get hot again.

So how many times has Arizona and Pennsylvania been recounted, reviewed, and audited the vote before this latest "audit?"
But R10, like all these nuts, have to keep imagining a bigger and bigger conspiracy to explain how an unpopular president who was behind in all the polls, managed to lose.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 25, 2021 1:15 PM |
Audit is only bogus if your guy loses??? So if the audit says it's fine, I guess r1 and r2 need to say Trump won, because they said the audit isn't right?
You all are so full of shit.

R10 What gives you the impression Trump “probably” won in Arizona and Pennsylvania?
His followers are violently delusional and unhinged, as evidenced by their terrorism during the BLM protests and, of course, at the Capitol on January 6. This what they really trying to deny and deflect from.
They also believe he “probably” won in Georgia, the results for which they are planning to “audit,” even though they have already been counted three fucking times.
This is insane, as are they.

^You couldn't be more wrong, r23, Exhibit A:
Trump destroyed objective reality allowing them to lie with complete impunity no matter how egregious. Break All 10 commandments plus paying a teen to take MDMA and fuck you. No Penalty!
Say1/6 were "tourists" while ignoring the picture of you barricading a door, no penalty.
Go to Cancun with your boyfriend and leave your state AND DOG at home, call other people pansies, no penalty.
They have successfully changed reality, just like GOD wants them to do. When you're in a battle with Satan aka Democrats you do whatever it takes to win, GOD will forgive them because he knows they are on his side. It's sad that Democrats don't see this truth, that's why they have to die. It's in the bible.

by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 25, 2021 2:33 PM |
Thanks for sharing, R28. I am still in the process of reading the article, but this immediately stood out:
[quote] As for the Democrats, their 2020 autopsy doesn't go into what messaging should be used going forward but so far it appears that the party is planning to run with a "Morning in America" campaign, betting on the improved economy and the end of the pandemic to allow them to beat the usual predicted mid-term losses. If President Biden can stay fairly popular and the Republicans keep cannibalizing themselves it might work. But if that's all they have in the hopper, I think they are ignoring their own data. There are tens of millions of hardcore Trump worshipers out there. And according to this latest survey by the Democratic polling outfit Democracy Corps, they are ready to rumble.
This is precisely why Democrats need to stay focused on spearheading, along with willing Republicans, and not giving up on an investigation into the January 6 domestic terrorist attack. As for those Republicans who are calling for investigations into the BLM protests, since it has already been reported by several journalists and even Trump’s very own acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf that white supremacists infiltrated and played a pivotal role in the violent outbreaks during those protests, I say investigate those as well.
They are clearly still trying to delegitimize Biden’s victory while deflecting from the unprecedented domestic terrorist attack on our government by Republican terrorists and white supremacists who were aided, encouraged, and emboldened by Trump and those closest to him to commit violence and interfere in our democratic process.
We cannot lose sight of this. We have to continue reminding American citizens - and the world - of the January 6 terrorist attack and of who and what incited it. This is the only way some people, especially government officials, will begin to realize what they are supporting when they express loyalty to Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 25, 2021 2:56 PM |
The ballots are now spoiled - it's impossible to determine if they've been messed with, so no clear objective results can be declared.
I mean, you give me the ballots for an entire election, I go into a sealed room and come back six months later declaring Kathy Griffin the lawful president of the US, no you can't look at the results but trust me she won, would you have any reason to believe me?

When the Audit comes back as a Trump win, GOP states will use that as the justification to pass more restrictive voting laws.
The only way the GOP can win is to suppress the vote.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 25, 2021 4:10 PM |
This means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Congress declared Biden the president. He won the electoral college.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 25, 2021 4:18 PM |
R35 It means a helluva fucking lot. It means they can continue to delegitimize Biden’s victory and presidency, even if only to their supporters, which matters because, if we made a collective effort to make the facts of the past election undeniable, some of them might be willing to jump off the Dump ship, as some already have. We cannot afford to flippantly and dismissively deem every Republican “a lost cause.”
Additionally and perhaps more importantly, this allows the most corrupt and debased of Republicans to continue to deny and deflect from the terrorist attack against our Capitol. And, believe me, that is definitely a central motivation of continuing this bogus audit charade, and it should not be tolerated nor ignored.

unforch I agree with R36
these people do not believe in democracy and where they might lead us is scary, indeed
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 25, 2021 5:13 PM |
People who don't take this seriously infuriate me. Sure it's crazy and hilarious that these idiots are looking for bamboo fibers and watermarks on ballots, but what they're doing is extremely sinister and it's supported by some very powerful, very wealthy people. This is not a game. This is the dismantling of democracy right before our very eyes. Never mind 2024, what happens in 2022 when Georgia simply refuses to certify a Senator Warnock win? Or in Texas in 2022 when there's one polling location for 5 million people with no options for early voting and very strict mail in voting laws? This isn't some hypothetical. This is the reality of the laws that have already been passed and there's plenty more that are coming. I'm not sure what the answers are but this is an unprecedented crisis for American democracy. One of the major parties, along with the vast majority of their voters, have simply said that democrats should not be allowed to vote nor should they be allowed to win elections and they will do everything in their power (and they have a lot of power) to ensure that democrats never win another election again.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 25, 2021 5:16 PM |
Because the AZ machines were left unsecure they are no longer usable. Who will be making purchasing decisions for the new machines? Will they buy the one's patented by Ivanka in China, and then have them programmed by Cambridge Analytica or Kaspersky?
This is a feature not a bug in the recount. They wanted this to happen so they will only have to buy new machines for Phoenix/Phillie/ Detroit/ Milwaukee where the urban voters are.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 25, 2021 5:36 PM |
R42 unfortunately they're the best we can do. If Manchin even decides to run again in 2024 he will lose to a Republican and Sinema has to be "moderate" to appeal to suburban Arizonans.
The 1/6 commission failing in the senate might be the best thing that can happen for democrats because it will blow a HUGE hole in Manchin and Sinema's argument that the filibuster promotes bi-partisanship.

R47 it’s not much of a puzzle. She’s said it herself. Her rightward shift is because her big money donors wanted her to shift right. She was bragging to them about killing the $15 minimum wage on camera. She said she was their “personal concierge” to congress. She’s a political turncoat and opportunist.
In regards to the filibuster she has so far taken a harder line against getting rid of it than even Manchin has. He’s said he supports reforming it and she hasn’t. The two seem to be playing a game of chicken to see who cracks first. I know everyone shits on Manchin but at the end of the day he is always loyal to the Democratic Party. He can be convinced. Senator Sinema is the one I don’t trust. Her going directly to McConnell promising him not to touch the filibuster was sketchy. I hope Schumer is keeping a close eye on her.

I don't think it will matter much, sure it will stir them up a little more but Trump didn't lose because of the Arizona electoral votes, he lost by more than that. So the Trump cultist will move on to another state and try and claim the same again. The Republican party has been moving towards authoritarianism for decades. Nixon wanted an imperial presidency in which "when the president does it, that means that it is not illegal." Coming out of twelve years of Reagan-Bush they hardened into a conviction that the presidency belonged to them: I remember Bob Dole (then minority leader) on tv greeting the news of Clinton's win by saying "we're not going to let him get away with anything, we're going to work against him" or the like—a proto-McConnell stance. They left reconciliation and compromise behind a long time ago (along with a sense of reality).

Arizona Republicans passed a measure on Tuesday to strip Democrat Katie Hobbs, the current secretary of state, of her ability to defend election lawsuits, a seemingly partisan retaliation for her sharp criticism of the party's controversial election audit.
The bill, which passed both the state's House and Senate Appropriations committees, puts the attorney general, Republican Mark Brnovich, in charge of defending all lawsuits through January 2, 2023, which is around the end of his and Hobbs’ current terms.
“The legislature intends that the attorney general make all strategic decisions regarding election litigation and be allowed to intervene on behalf of this state if the attorney general determines, in the attorney general's sole discretion, that the intervention is appropriate,” according to the bill.
The bill also states that the attorney general cannot represent or provide legal advice to the Secretary of State, which is generally the chief elections administrator, or the Department of State on any matters through June 30, 2023. But it allows the secretary to hire one full-time “equivalent position” to serve as legal advisor to represent them, but blocks the secretary from “spending or incurring indebtedness to employ outside or private attorneys to provide representation or services.”
This measure, which has to pass the full legislature, comes as Senate Republicans are leading a 2020 election audit of the state’s largest county. They have hired several firms to conduct the audit, which is led by Cyber Ninjas, a Florida-based firm that has no experience auditing elections and is run by a supporter of former President Donald Trump who has promoted baseless election conspiracies.
The audit is widely viewed as a partisan effort after Trump and his supporters spent months questioning the accuracy of President Joe Biden's narrow win in the state. State and federal experts and law enforcement officials have questioned the legality and prudence of the auditors and their efforts. The Justice Department and election experts have also warned that some of their proposed processes could violate federal law, while auditors' searches for things like bamboo and secret watermarks have drawn scorn and mockery.
"The fact that the legislature has singled me and my office for these unjustifiable restrictions — restrictions which expire at the end of my term — make it clear what this is really about: partisan politics,” Hobbs said in a statement. “The most extreme members of our legislature think they can stop me from doing my job and working on behalf of Arizona voters. I'll keep proving them wrong.”
She also said in a follow-up statement that Brnovich, has "engaged in a pattern of behavior" that violates his ethical duties.
"He frequently sought to substitute his judgement for my own and allowed his political preferences to interfere with this obligation to represent me as a client, in my pursuit of the best interests of Arizona voters," she said, revealing that she had filed a complaint about Brnovich confidentially with the State Bar of Arizona last October.
"Unfortunately, it appears AG Brnovich isn't asking forgiveness for his behavior — he's asking our legislature to authorize it," she wrote, adding that "despite partisan attacks and political power grabs, I'll continue to get the job done on behalf of all Arizona voters."
