OP, guys have been having circle jerks for a very long time. This isn’t new. Sex in general has become a positive thing. The internet and turning children into sex objects in the early 2000s contributed to this. Now everyone is trying to outdo themselves sexually.

It’s a weird paradox though - everyone running around being sex positive and being free, but at the same time, seeing a sexual predator around every corner.

AIDS happened. At least for a while sex between people became safer or nonexistent. Masturbation and/or mutual masturbation became more of a thing about which to talk. Then the Internet happened and all aspects of sexuality were talked about and shown. Readily accessible pornography became commonplace. Solo videos became part of the porn repertoire. Gay.com and phone sex happened. People could jack-off while chatting with each other. Exchanging sexually explicit photos followed. Chaturbate happened. Monetizing masturbation became profitable or a way for extra cash.

Of course, there were many other or varied steps along the way, but basically, masturbation came out of the closet gradually, with deliberate step-by-steps. No one talked about it when I was young, except on occasion because everyone knew that everyone else has done it. Social media happened. Masturbation has arrived mainstream. Masturbation was celebrated and followed online. Open masturbation and discussions about it became acceptable. It happened over time, but now it seems like it's here to stay.

Of course, some societies are still more conservative, but I would venture to guess that many forms of sexuality and related activities are more out in the open even among the most conservative. People are aware of various sexual activities because even in the strictest of societies there are laws against some activities, which indicates that these activities are practiced even if it's undercover.

Guys will jerk off on camera without hesitation, but would rather die than let themselves be seen nude in a locker room.

More people are single OP, marriage isn't a norm anymore, religious adherence to sexual definition is more irrelevant and people talk about sex more openly.

Years ago, I worked with a videographer who shot snippets of theatre scenes for the show's marketing and publicity efforts. The videographer recorded on BETA.
