The only truly funny, apt and decent comedy bit he’s ever done that I’ve seen was that Comic Relief ‘team talk’ sketch in-character as Smithy, for the England National Football Squad 2009-10. I still quote lines from that sketch to this day.

But that was written and performed over a decade ago, and arguably the context as well as the reactions from the footie players and from the Comic Relief crowds made that as funny as it was. If Corden tried the same thing now, it would fall completely flat.

Wrong. Corden inspires across-the-aisle disgust. I'm not sure why. But it's true.

I think by nature, comics are mean, caustic people, so I suppose that's taken as a given in the industry. Even though he is obnoxious, he's kind of opaque kind compared to his peers: not as twee as Jim Fallon, not as cerebral (cause god knows Americans hate smart!) as Stephen Colbert, not political like Trevor Noah and not nearly as mean as other brits Ricky Gervais. Plus, he's connected to the glitterati like Harry Styles. So he's sort of an all purpose host.

His appeal is lost on me too, but it's only a matter of time before his moment is up & all the people he's shit on over the years will come out of the woodwork & #cancel him & we'll all be hating on some other generic, obnoxious brit.

He should try drag to rehab his image.
